Built-in models of wardrobes for the bedroom: design and selection of placement

Types of bedroom wardrobes

When starting to purchase a suitable model, you need to decide on the place where the cabinet will be installed, its size, and the type of door opening. Depending on the purpose of the wardrobe and the method of placement in the room, there are several varieties.

Built-in

The frame of the structure is attached to the wall, floor and ceiling, which replace the sides, bottom and top of the cabinet. This model is successfully mounted in a niche or corner of the room. This solution helps to save space in the bedroom and hide possible finishing defects. The full-wall length wardrobe is distinguished by its capacity.

The only negative is the inability to move, lift or rearrange the cabinet. This type of furniture is installed “to last forever,” so you need to think a hundred times before deciding on the location of the built-in wardrobe in the bedroom.

Modular

The most economical and familiar type for Russians. Consists of one housing or a set of modules. Such a wardrobe is often complemented with such items as:

  • narrow sections - pencil cases;
  • TV stands;
  • shelves;
  • chests of drawers for linen;
  • dressing table;
  • mezzanine.

The modules are manufactured in the same design as the cabinet. The result is a functional furniture composition in a single style. It looks more cumbersome than built-in structures, but costs less.

This option is optimal for a bedroom-living room, when it is necessary to place not only clothes inside, but also a book section, equipment, dishes, and decorative elements.

Bedroom set

These cabinets are installed on the sides of the bed and are often sold as a single bedroom furniture set. Bed linen, home knitwear, bath towels and other textiles are stored in the wardrobe. The bedside tables contain items that are required during rest - books, a lamp, glasses and other small things.

Two wardrobes installed on both sides of the sleeping bed can be connected by a narrow mezzanine. It is important to ensure that the fastening is secure so that the structure does not fall onto the bed.

Dressing rooms

Designed exclusively for storing clothes and shoes, they take up a lot of space in the room, the height is from floor to ceiling. Some dressing rooms are comparable in size to a pantry. Inside the closet there are all kinds of devices for neatly placing things - hangers, shelves, organizers, drawers, holders for ties and belts.

The filling is thought out for small things, which makes the wardrobe extremely spacious and makes it easier to find the right thing.

Cabinet shapes

Modern furniture manufacturers offer consumers a variety of wardrobe models that differ in size, height, and location.

Popular cabinet shapes:

  • Rectangular (linear). The classic version is usually located along the wall. Can be supplemented with an attached open bookcase, dressing table and other modules.

  • Radius cabinet. Suitable for a spacious bedroom, it has a round shape and is often complemented by sliding doors. The design matches the relaxing ambiance of the room.

  • Angular. Made in the shape of the letter P (for bedrooms with a large area) or L (suitable for placement in a small room), as well as in the shape of a trapezoid for non-standard layouts. The cabinet can be built-in or free-standing, and consist of several cabinet modules.

Design

The appearance of the wardrobe is determined by the design of the doors and fittings. For small bedrooms, light shades are relevant, visually expanding the space.

Since 2010 I have been engaged in interior design and architectural design.

If there are colorful textiles and wallpaper, the closet should be laconic, in a minimalist style, so as not to visually overload the space. If this piece of furniture serves as an accent in an overall ascetic environment, then it can be decorated with sandblasting or color printing.

If the room is dark or small, you should choose doors with mirrors. In a room located on the sunny side, on the contrary, it is recommended to use matte surfaces and install the cabinet near the window.

Color

When choosing a cabinet, you should pay attention to the color of the body and facades. If the furniture is built-in, only the doors provide color, and the internal parts hidden from view can be of any color.

For the bedroom, wardrobe wardrobes with facades in calm pastel colors and wood shades on the sides are preferred.

In order to lighten the space and add “airiness” to the bedroom, it is worth installing a white wardrobe with a glossy surface on the doors. If the furnishings in the room are made in a modern style, bright rich shades are possible: blue, pink, purple and others.

Manufacturing materials

The cabinet consists of two parts: a box and a sliding system. The best raw material for its manufacture is solid wood. A bedroom with such a wardrobe looks luxurious, but preference is usually given to composites, which weigh much less and are cheaper. To make the box, chipboard or fiberboard is used. The first one is taken with a thickness of 16 mm, but the slab is often “thickened” with the remains of the same material (often a different shade).

MDF or tambourate can be used as manufacturing materials, but due to the high cost, such cabinets are made less frequently.

Features of different materials:

  • MDF – durable, environmentally friendly, wear-resistant;
  • Chipboard is the most affordable and most popular material;
  • Fiberboard - these boards are used to make budget furniture that is used away from water sources.

What are the types of white wardrobes for the bedroom, tips for choosing

Different materials are used for facades: glass, chipboard, mirror, bamboo, plastic, rattan or combinations thereof. Some of them undergo additional processing in order to give an unusual appearance. For example, sandblasting patterns can be applied to mirrors.

Stylistics

Depending on the size, general appearance, design of the facades, the cabinet may correspond to one or another style in the interior.

Several variants:

  • Classic. The wardrobe is made of valuable wood, looks massive and bulky, and is expensive. It has strong legs and cornices on top. The doors are hinged, decorated with patina, carvings, and forged handles with a rich pattern.

  • Minimalism. Such cabinets are also suitable for a bedroom in a high-tech or loft style. They have strict forms and discreet design. Facades are made of plastic, glass, aluminum, chipboard.

  • French Provence. The cabinet can be decorated with a thematic pattern. The color is light - from white to blue and gray. The doors can be made of glass or replaced with a rustic curtain. The surfaces are artificially aged, the fittings seem to be worn out.

  • Ethnic. The designs are original. Made from rough wood, rattan or artificial materials that imitate natural ones.

Design and color scheme of the wardrobe

Wardrobe doors are often decorated with additional decor.

  • One of the most popular is sandblasting technique - a matte pattern or pattern applied to a glass or mirror surface. This decor looks unobtrusive and elegant, and therefore is great for bedrooms.

  • Upholstery of sashes with eco-leather is a fresh trend. It goes well with the MDF pattern and adds sophistication to the interior. This tandem will look great in a classic-style bedroom.

  • Rhinestones are another fashion trend in modern design. They are made of glass or acrylic and can be any color. The shine of the edges of small crystals enlivens the interior. In addition, they perfectly complement photo printing.

Mosaics, stucco molding, carvings and other artistic techniques are also used in the decoration of cabinet doors.

When choosing the color scheme for such a large piece of furniture, you need to focus on the shades in the bedroom interior. The purpose of this room is rest and relaxation after a hard day, which is why it is usually decorated in soothing colors.

Both deep dark and pastel colors can be used. Usually the center of the composition of the room is the bedroom set, but a stylish wardrobe with photo printing on the facade can also become an accent in the interior.

Experts advise matching the color of the cabinet frame to the tone of the floor, and the doors to match textiles (bedspreads, pillows, curtains) or furniture. To make your wardrobe look harmonious, its design should be limited to 2-3 shades. If the bedroom is small, you should give preference to facades with a mirror or light varnish.

Material

A prestigious and expensive cabinet is usually made of wood. However, in addition to the high price, it has other disadvantages - over time, the structure may become deformed, and problems may arise with opening and closing doors.

Wooden furniture is not suitable for rooms with high humidity. A popular and economical material for making a cabinet frame is laminated chipboard.

When choosing a wardrobe, you should pay attention to the formaldehyde content in the particle board. It can be: E0, E1, E2. The lower the number, the less the amount of toxic substance in the glue, the safer the material. E2 class chipboard is not allowed for production in the Russian Federation, according to GOST.

The edge deserves no less attention. It happens:

  • PVC (PVC) - used most often, it is practical;
  • melamine

This tape is the color of the chipboard, which is glued to the cut site. The ends of the slab must be securely hidden. The edge thickness can be 0.4-2 mm. The higher this indicator, the more reliably the edges are protected. For actively used surfaces, it is worth choosing a thicker edge (1-2 mm), and for inconspicuous or hidden from the eyes 0.4 mm is suitable.

The particle board itself can be coated with:

  • laminate;
  • acrylic film;
  • plastic;
  • veneer

It is important that the decorative coating fits securely to the chipboard and does not peel off or bubble.

The thickness of the cabinet sides also matters. It can be 16, 18 and 25 mm. The higher the indicator, the more reliable and durable the structure.

The back walls are invisible, but the material also matters. The cheapest is plywood, which is nailed onto furniture nails. Over time, it may come off, allowing dust to enter the gap. To eliminate the defect, you will need to move the cabinet, which is not always possible.

A more practical solution is a back wall made of fiberboard, which is inserted into grooves and will not fall out in the future. The most reliable option is to cover the back of the cabinet with the same chipboard from which the frame is made.

Size

Considering that bedrooms usually have modest dimensions and are intended for relaxation, most often a compact closet is installed here. The main role in the furniture composition is given to the bed.

Designers recommend choosing wardrobe models that extend upward (to the ceiling) and not to the sides for storing things. It is worth considering the option of installing a narrow cabinet-case of one or two sections in the bedroom when the room is small. These models are compact, occupying only about 0.5-1 m in width.

If there is no other place in the apartment to place household items, books, and a wardrobe, then for the bedroom it is worth purchasing a large wall with a wardrobe, open and glass-covered shelves.

Since 2010 I have been engaged in interior design and architectural design.

Legs are installed at the bottom of modular furniture. It's good if they are adjustable.

Despite the fact that many beautiful models are made to order according to individual sizes, there are generally accepted standards for the depth of the wardrobe. Narrow designs - 45 cm, more convenient to use - 60. The height of factory products can be 1.8-2.4 m.

Design and colors

To make the room look elegant, stylish, airy and light, designers recommend choosing compartment models made in white, milky or beige shades. Gray, brown or chocolate colors also have a place. This is a classic interior idea that fits into modern rooms. Turquoise shades add brightness, lilac – romance, yellow or orange – freshness. The dark blue color is suitable for those who prefer a deeper and calmer design. Lovers of contrasts opt for black and white colors.

Advantages of white bedroom furniture, basic furniture items

Each room design has its own ideas. In furniture catalogues, you can use a photo to select a built-in wardrobe for a bedroom in any style:

  1. Modern. Furniture with straight lines and “calm” colors looks good in this style. The best finishing option is wood. A coupe with matte doors looks good in a coffee-white bedroom. Also suitable for modernism are all-white furniture that blends with the walls and ceiling.
  2. Classic. This interior will be highlighted by a bedroom wardrobe made in the style of the Victorian era. It would be good if there were full-size mirrors on the doors - from the outside it seems that these are double mirrors, and not a place intended for storing things.
  3. Provence. This is a “rustic” style with a predominance of white flowers. Also in Provence you can see lattice facades, carved legs, and floral design motifs. Sliding wardrobes in the bedroom are large furniture, but in Provence it should be “light”. This can be achieved using mirrored doors, lattice sections and carved patterns.
  4. Scandinavian. This is a laconic and rough design that welcomes massiveness and simplicity. To highlight the interior, coupes are chosen with veneer or solid wood trim.
  5. Modern. This style differs from the classics in its minimalism, simplicity and versatility of colors. The best materials here are: glass, plastic and metal. As for the color of the furniture, any color will do.

Manufacturers make cabinets in different designs, so everyone can choose the option to suit their home. If necessary, furniture is made according to an individual sketch - all you need is an idea. You can create your ideal design together with a specialist.

Number and types of doors

The number of cabinet opening systems depends on the size and design of the product. Accordingly, the longer it is, the greater the number of opening structures - one, two, three doors, etc. On average, a door is provided for 0.5-0.7 m.

As a rule, each leaf corresponds to the size of the internal section divided by a partition. There are exceptions in wardrobes, because sliding facades are relevant for “endless” wardrobes and built-in storage systems.

Types of cabinet doors:

  • Swing. Economical and practical option. The main thing that needs to be provided is the presence of free space near the cabinet so that nothing interferes with opening and access.
  • Sliding. The so-called coupes are increasingly in demand among modern consumers. They are more expensive than hinged ones, but have a stylish design and provide easy access to the contents - just move the door to the side.

  • Harmonic. It is used quite rarely, often in dressing rooms. The facade consists of several vertical segments that fold like a fan when opening a large cabinet.

Advantages and disadvantages

Sliding wardrobes are multifunctional storage systems that can now be found in almost every home.

This popularity is due to a number of advantages:

  1. A wide range of. Thanks to the variety of types of structures, materials, and designs, you can choose such furniture for any room and fit into all interior styles. Manufacturers offer options for different tastes and budgets, which is also important.
  2. Occupancy. In wardrobes, you can use every cubic centimeter of room volume, arrange racks, drawers, clothes rails in your own way, install an open shelf for a TV, even build in a workplace.
  3. Compactness. In compartment designs, the entire occupied space is used rationally, in contrast to classic hinged wardrobes, where additional space is required to open the doors. Thanks to this, sliding wardrobes can be installed even in narrow spaces.
  4. Zoning. Ceiling cabinets with sliding doors are one of the ways to highlight the functional parts of the room. At the same time, the space of the room is used rationally.

Among the disadvantages it is worth highlighting:

  1. Expensive repairs. The sliding mechanism is a weak part in wardrobes. The guide profiles may become deformed, and the rollers may wear out or become flattened. Of course, when using high-quality expensive fittings, the service life of the mechanism increases, but it must also be handled with care.
  2. Care. It is necessary to regularly clean the guide profiles from dirt and dust so that the rollers do not become deformed and the sashes do not get stuck.
  3. Lighting. Deep, large cabinets require installation of internal light for ease of use. Built-in LED lamps in finished models perform a purely decorative function.
  4. Deformation of the structure due to uneven floors.
  5. Inability to move and difficult to install.

As you can see, the disadvantages of compartment designs are more than compensated for by their advantages.

Types of door mechanisms

Depending on the type of facades used, the necessary fittings are selected for them.

Options:

  • On rollerskates. This mechanism is used in sliding and sliding wardrobes and allows the doors to slide right and left along special strips at the top and bottom of the structure.
  • On hinges. They can be classic or with closers (then the door closes on its own). Installed on hinged cabinet doors. The more massive and wider the facade, the larger and more powerful the hinges are required.

  • On gas lifts. Pneumatic lifts are popular on mezzanines, they open from bottom to top, and are often equipped with closers.

Ease of use largely depends on the quality of the fittings. Expensive products from European brands last much longer and work better than Chinese products. If the opening mechanisms are installed in good faith, then the gap width between the doors does not exceed 2-3 mm.

Safety: what to pay attention to

When placing a wardrobe in your bedroom, it is important to make sure that it is safe for your household:

  • no sharp corners;
  • careful fastening of internal mechanisms;
  • installation of mirrors on facades using a special adhesive film, which will prevent fragments from falling out if the mirror is accidentally broken;
  • equipping the doors with an anti-jump mechanism;
  • availability of a drawer closing system.

The most practical furniture is modular, which saves space

Modern wardrobes in the bedroom can be of various sizes and styles, depending on preferences and the general orientation of the interior.

Only you can decide which option to choose.

Facade decoration

The presentable appearance of the cabinet directly depends on the finish of the doors. Most often used for the manufacture of facades:

  • chipboard;
  • MDF;
  • mirrors;
  • glass;
  • aluminum profile.

Sliding wardrobes have the greatest number of options for decorating facades, since they represent a single structure. But you can also create an unusual design on swing doors.

For decorative door decoration use:

  • mirror fragments;
  • stained glass;
  • gloss;
  • photo printing;
  • multi-colored acrylic films;
  • bamboo;
  • sandblasting;
  • 3D images and others.

Internal filling

The main task of a closet in the bedroom is storage, which is why it is so important to think about the placement of partitions and sections. In a well-equipped wardrobe, clothes do not wrinkle, although they are folded compactly. Other things are also stored there - underwear, shoes, accessories.

For the functional internal filling of the cabinet, many devices are used:

  • drawers;
  • shelves;
  • boxes;
  • separators;
  • baskets;
  • hangers for clothes;
  • clips for trousers and skirts;
  • tie makers;
  • devices for storing belts;
  • baskets for shoes and linen, etc.

It is worth taking care of the interior lighting, especially if the closet is deep or replaces a dressing room.

Varieties

The differences between the models come down to shape, size, and finishing materials. These cabinets are called “compartments” because they are equipped with sliding doors that move along a guide – a “rail”. The facade block can also be stationary. Built-in wardrobes are divided into several types according to their shape.

Variety of bedroom wardrobes, interior photos, placement options

Corner built-in wardrobe models easily fit into almost any room, saving usable space. Most often, such furniture is installed in hallways, but they also look very good in the bedroom, being a stylish and pragmatic solution. Despite their compact size, a lot of things can easily fit inside them. The disadvantage of corner furniture is that it is sometimes difficult to get to the far part. Accordingly, it is better to choose the most convenient internal filling.

Wardrobes with mirror finishes are often installed in small rooms. The design of the furniture itself already saves space, and reflective surfaces visually expand the room. Many people worry about the fragility of such products. In fact, they use not an ordinary mirror, but a processed one, resistant to damage and scratches. This mirrored wardrobe is suitable even for a children's room. It also has disadvantages. Firstly, such a cabinet requires more care. You can order frosted mirrors - they are also stylish, but not so demanding. Secondly, if the bedroom is dark, then the reflection effect cannot be achieved, so the furniture is placed in rooms with additional lighting.

The design of radius cabinets is very unique - the doors have a curved shape. Most often, furniture is placed in the corner of the room, and its configuration assumes the so-called “dead zone”. The facade can be convex, internal and wavy. A dressing table, a vacuum cleaner, an ironing board and other household necessities can easily be placed inside the cabinet. The corner of the furniture becomes a functional part, allowing you to effectively use free space.

L-shaped cabinets are suitable for any room. The furniture consists of two parts joined together. They occupy two adjacent walls and the corner between them. Despite the volume, the option not only looks stylish, but also has good capacity. The design assumes corner installation. Furniture of this shape is often placed in small bedrooms, where free space needs to be used wisely.

A characteristic feature of trapezoidal coupes is the side wall, which forms a line of an irregular figure. The shape of the furniture looks good in large rooms with an original layout. The trapezoidal cabinet is considered one of the most spacious formats; moreover, the internal content can be easily transformed at the request of the owner.

The triangular wardrobe uses the entire corner of the room. Although the product does not have many shelves, there is a rail that is convenient for hanging a large amount of outerwear. In fact, a compartment of this form replaces a dressing room. Most often, triangular furniture does not have side walls, so the cabinet requires less space. Despite the compact size, there is a minus - the small capacity of the triangular shelves.

Modern models 2020

The bedroom is an intimate room, where household members relax and recover after a hard day. It is important that the color, style, and model of the cabinet complement the overall interior, giving it even more elegance and comfort.

When choosing a suitable wardrobe for your bedroom, it is important to pay attention to its spaciousness, functionality and aesthetic appearance. It is desirable that the furniture in the room be made in the same color and style, all interior items are harmoniously combined with each other.

Basic criteria for choosing a wardrobe for the bedroom

A room for rest and sleep should correspond to its main purpose, and not be a heap of various pieces of furniture. Modern wardrobes for the bedroom make it possible to create a comfortable space and order in it, accommodating a lot of different things.

Before you buy a wardrobe for your bedroom, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the design features of different models and the requirements for them.

When choosing a cabinet, you need to pay attention to:

  • bedroom area;
  • cabinet dimensions;
  • interior of the room and other furniture;
  • the material from which the cabinet is made;
  • the principle of opening doors and the mechanism for this.

For a room with limited space, it is wise to opt for a narrow cabinet that reaches the ceiling. Having a spacious room, it makes sense to consider different models and designs of a bedroom closet.
