Decorative inserts
The most common choice for hallways is, of course, sliding wardrobes. And indeed, this piece of furniture is not lacking in practicality. Although lately designers have increasingly been offering swing doors, this is definitely not a solution for narrow or very small spaces.
If we talk about design, the most popular models are not plain ones, but those with inserts of other colors or from other materials. Most often these are horizontal stripes of different widths. They often help make a design more interesting, but you should be very careful. This trend has been relevant for quite a long time, so many outdated models with this decor are offered on the market.
For example, symmetry never goes out of style. But splitting it into sections of different sizes will look much more modern than equal rectangles. In any case, it is important to support the idea in other interior items. If rectangles are used in the decor of the cabinet, then a triangular glass insert in the door will not look so good. Curly chandeliers or complex designs of table legs work great in this case.
If you doubt your ideas, a win-win option could be a facade divided into three parts, when another material, such as glass, is used in the center. It’s just better to choose something other than a mirror, otherwise you’ll end up with a strange reflection. Textured materials also look interesting, but there are two rules. They should occupy a smaller area than smooth ones and be of neutral tones.
Important point. You should not use more than three materials or colors in the design of one wardrobe. Unless, of course, this is a special idea of the designer. In general, this rule should be followed when creating the interior of the entire space as a whole. Please note that we are talking specifically about colors; there can be an infinite number of shades.
Over the past few years, geometry has been firmly at the top of fashion trends. You should pay attention to active patterns only if the footage of the corridor allows it. Since such decor will only highlight the shortcomings of a small dark space. In general, the larger the cabinet itself, the more neutral the decor should be, otherwise it will stand out too much from everything else.
In this case, a monochromatic cabinet, but made of different materials, will look great. For example, glossy glass and matte chipboard. The design does not look boring, but at the same time we get rid of any associations with the early 2000s, when the favorite option in cabinet design was a combination of contrasting milk and wenge colors. And also landscapes on glass! This design should be forgotten like a bad dream.
And in general, as designers say, in our time the world is ruled by rationality. Any design decision must be justified. Think about this when you decide to add, for example, an extra mirror insert. Perhaps you really just need a mirror in the hallway. Otherwise, it is better to weigh the decision several times. Remember that too little decor is always better than too much. Moreover, you can decorate the interior with interesting details.
At the same time, the wardrobe has every right to become the main accent of the interior of your hallway. This doesn't mean it has to be the brightest. Simply choose unconventional color combinations or add unexpected textures. So few people expect that a wardrobe can be green, blue or lemon in color. Or that the colors of bronze and gold can be used in details.
Features of placement and selection
It is important to think in advance where exactly the structure will be located and what will be stored in it. In order not to make a bad choice, it is recommended to follow these tips:
- You need to decide on the sizes in advance. Opening hinged doors and pulling out drawers requires a certain amount of space. You need to make sure that the design will fit in the chosen location and that it will be convenient to use.
- Material. The best option is a product made of high-quality MDF or laminated chipboard. If treated with care, this design will last for many years.
- Accessories. When inspecting furniture, you need to make sure that the cabinet is equipped with high-quality hinges, corners, shelf holders, and so on.
- Design. Appearance and color scheme play an important role and are selected taking into account the features of the interior. If the room is small in size, it is better to install a white wardrobe with two mirrored doors. This design will make the room more spacious and airy.
- Filling system. You need to see in advance what the cabinet is equipped with inside and how convenient the storage system used will be.
Types of corner wardrobes, advantages and disadvantages of furniture
As for accommodation options, it all depends on the characteristics of the room. In bedrooms and hallways, double-leaf wardrobes are usually placed with their end facing one of the walls. If the structure is installed in a hall or living room, it can be placed in the center of the wall and beautifully decorated with pencil cases or shelving with decor. It is strongly recommended not to place the cabinet separately from other furniture. So the design will look ridiculous and visually make the situation ill-conceived.

Mirror facades
Mirror facades can compete in popularity with horizontal decorative inserts. Their undoubted advantage is that mirrors visually expand the space. There is also a significant disadvantage - mirrors require constant care, especially if the cabinet does not have handles.
Therefore, in order to reduce cleaning time at least a little, mirrored doors are combined with facades made of other materials. Moreover, now this technique is increasingly used in double-door cabinets, while 5 years ago this was the main feature of three-door cabinets. This design can hardly be called trendy, but it has a right to exist, especially if there is very little space in the hallway.
By the way, the wardrobe does not have to reach the ceiling. It can be an ordinary closet without mezzanines. Many young people choose this option, firstly, so as not to store unnecessary things, and secondly, to leave as much “air” in the space as possible. But the drawers on the outside, and not inside the cabinet, do not look very modern. We would recommend avoiding them.
If you think that without decoration the cabinet still looks too simple, you can combine two ideas at once and add metal strips. The narrower they are, the more sophisticated the decor will look. And we remember that symmetry is good, but slight deviations from it are more suitable for a stylish interior.
An interesting move: even if you have a mirror on the closet door, this is not a reason to refuse them in the interior. A mirror the same size as the cabinet door, but hanging separately on the wall, would look great. But you shouldn’t place mirrors opposite each other. The exception is small decorative details that will create an interesting play of light.
Cabinets with completely mirrored doors can “save” a small space. Only, most likely, they will be constantly dirty due to hand marks. In this case, not too bright lighting in the hallway can help. In general, lighting directed specifically at the cabinet most often looks rather strange. If you need it, it is much more convenient to make lamps inside the cabinet, rather than on the ceiling. And certainly not on a special panel on top. They went out of fashion 10 years ago.
The frame in which the mirror will or will not be enclosed can significantly influence the appearance of the cabinet and set a certain style for the interior. For example, a thin metallic outline will be a reference to hi-tech or minimalism. But the wide frame made of eco-leather fits well into the Art Nouveau style. While mirrored doors without anything will perfectly suit the Scandinavian style.
Decoration in the form of thin wooden and metal strips is also often used on mirrored doors. In this case, you will definitely need another mirror in the hallway, because it will be completely uncomfortable to look into. But such decor will easily help recreate a certain atmosphere. Thus, the dark bars on the glass are a reference to the English style.
In general, contrasting dark decor on mirrored doors looks great in black and white interiors and interiors in gray tones. It adds zest to the calm mood of such a corridor. Well, in general, the solution is quite original. Agree that you haven’t met him very often before.
If you want to use decorative strips, we would advise you to stick to one material. As soon as they start combining a mirror with glass or wood, such decor looks out of date. At the same time, glass slats cannot be called a super current idea. But thanks to this, they become one of the few suitable solutions for a wardrobe in a classic style.
Another appropriate idea could be figured decor or milling on glass. But they are only suitable for a seasoned classic style. And by milling we do not mean birds and flowers, but restrained geometric shapes. This is the case when it is better to do it a little more restrainedly than to overdo it.
And in general, design is increasingly striving for simplification. And also to the fact that each piece of furniture should perform only one function. There is no need to try to turn the wardrobe into a shelving unit and an open hanger. These pieces of furniture, like ottomans or shoe cabinets, must be free-standing. A cabinet that combines everything at once usually lacks one thing - taste.
Peculiarities
The wardrobe for clothes has not lost popularity to this day, despite the fact that the market is filled with wardrobe systems. It is comfortable, practical, fits perfectly into classic and some modern interiors. Conventionally, double-leaf wardrobes are classified into several groups: for storing linen, trousers, dresses, sweaters, and for storing outerwear. There are also combined models that are equipped with several rods and sections at once. They can accommodate both items for everyday wear, as well as coats and jackets. 2-door wardrobes are popular because they have the following advantages:
- Mobility, ease of dismantling. The structure can be easily disassembled without the use of special tools. Double-leaf cabinet models can be quickly dismantled and moved to another location.
- Capacity. Thanks to the presence of a large rod, several shelves and mezzanines, the structure can store not only linen with everyday clothes, but also jackets, coats, shoes, and accessories.
- Long service life. Since the doors of some cabinet models are fixed using regular hinges, the products will last for many years without breakdowns. The main thing is that they have high-quality fittings.
- Versatility. Manufacturers produce different models, so a double-leaf wardrobe can be selected to suit any interior.
- Low cost. Similar models are inexpensive. If you need to purchase an economy-class product, a wardrobe with hinged doors is exactly what you need.
To objectively evaluate the design, do not forget about the disadvantages. The disadvantages include the fact that swing doors require sufficient free space to move. It is also worth considering that a cabinet of this type will look bulky in a small room, and its use will cause difficulties.
Types of linen closets with shelves, their purpose
Gloss
Glossy doors are a very controversial trend that can either emphasize the style of the interior or make it completely tasteless. A lot depends on what “sauce” the gloss is served with.
It is best if these are just plain facades without decoration. Even slats in this case will be superfluous. Although for the last few seasons, imitation of marble and other rocks has been in fashion. Such a “pattern” on a glossy surface can just make the interior more trendy.
You should not choose bright colors or just darkened glass: they make the design very cheap. White, gray, sand will look great. But black and dark brown are more likely associated with the atmosphere of the office. But not with the comfort of a home corridor.
And don’t forget that on a dark gloss any traces will be much more noticeable than on a light one. Don't be afraid of new color combinations. In addition to the beige and wenge colors that are boring to us in the interior, there are a million more options. This season's hits: greens and gold, blue and sand, ocher and dark blue, pink and mint. It is not necessary to make the entire closet in these colors, but some interesting details are fine.
In addition, designers have very actively begun to use the following trend: they take the main color and the entire color scheme is based on its shades. Looks very impressive. And don’t forget about the gradient: it has gained a very strong position and will definitely not go out of fashion for many years to come.
Matte materials
Two directly opposite options - matte and gloss - quite successfully coexist in fashionable interiors. The first significant advantage of matte facades in the design of wardrobes for the corridor is practicality. And perhaps, after living in the new interior for a year, you will say that this is the only important point.
By the way, there are certain features in the design of matte and glossy facades. This is how decor in the form of horizontal stripes can look quite appropriate on matte doors. But the metal trim around the edges, on the contrary, will definitely be superfluous.
Now designers have again begun to pay attention not only to the appearance of the cabinet, but also to the design of its internal contents. Yes, shelves and cupboards can be not only the standard white color! The filling will look stylish to match the facades or the color of natural wood.
In fact, the difference between stylish and unstylish design most often consists of such little things. So the absence of a visible part of the cabinet frame takes the model to a new level. Doors stretching straight from floor to ceiling are a hot trend for the 2019-2020 season.
And this year, designers finally started adding handles to wardrobes! Simple and concise, they make using cabinets much more convenient. And there is no need to confuse them with handles for hinged cabinets: they will look as strange as possible. So, under no circumstances agree to such “designer” ideas.
And concluding the story about two types of facades - matte and glossy - I would like to show how differently they should be played out in the interior. For example, matte doors will go perfectly with textured walls. The result is a game of contrasts. And the gloss will look more voluminous in rooms with good lighting, and even better - next to a window.
As we have already noted, there are differences in the choice of decorative elements. So a two-color wardrobe in a matte version will look more refined than in a glossy one. After all, gloss is a type of decor in itself; additional “decoration” is almost never required.
Internal filling
Since double-leaf wardrobes are very popular, their contents and interior space are very diverse, so that everyone can choose the optimal model. More often, such structures are equipped with the following storage elements:
- shelves - have different widths and heights, used to place folded laundry;
- mezzanines - things that are used less often than others are placed on them;
- rods - necessary for things that are hung on hangers, there can be several of them;
- drawers - usually they contain underwear, belts, socks, and other accessories.
Tips for choosing a fabric wardrobe, advantages of furniture
Some cabinets are equipped with additional storage elements: tie holders, multi-level hangers. As a rule, a more thoughtful placement system has a combined option, which is designed to store different things. Such models are complemented not only with rods and racks, but also with drawers.

Volumetric decor
Often decorative elements on the doors become a reference to the classic style. As we already mentioned, sliding wardrobes and classics are not the best combination, but if you absolutely want to combine them, there is a way out. Choose white color and panels.
And the simpler the design, the better. Classic is not the same as pretentious. Moreover, now the entrance is no longer “heavy” classics with an abundance of gold, floral patterns and expensive materials, but modern ones, diluted with a dose of minimalism.
Among the three-dimensional facades you can find a good option for country style. Choose doors that will resemble the doors of outbuildings. The main thing is that they are painted in a light color. Otherwise, instead of pleasant stylization, you will get a repulsive, uncomfortable interior.
If the color scheme suggests more saturated colors, pay attention to materials reminiscent of rattan. They will fit perfectly into a style with references to the tropics. But the imitation of natural untreated wood will suit the loft style. Or such a cabinet can become an accent in a minimalist interior.
But we wouldn’t recommend experimenting with combining different types of decor. More often than not, such attempts turn into complete design failures. Stop at one thing. As practice shows, with a harmonious environment, even an absolutely smooth monochromatic facade can look as stylish as possible.

DIY swing wardrobe Hello everyone!
The hinged wardrobe is one of the most common wardrobes. Of course, today it is already inferior to the sliding wardrobe. But it is still in demand.
It is much easier to assemble compared to a coupe, since there is no need to assemble the doors separately and the frame separately. The design can be very different. The filling can be purely with shelves, shelves with drawers, with a hanging bar.
I didn’t dare to consider a cabinet purely with shelves; I think that this is a fairly simple option. I decided to complicate the task by using all three fillings that I described above.
Dimensions:
2200*600*1500 mm.
Detailing:
- Sidewalls – 2184*575 = 2 pcs.
- Bottom – 1468*575 = 1
- Cover – 1500*600 = 1 pc.
- Shelves – 976*575 = 2 pcs.
- 476*575 = 5
- Add. wall – 268*500 = 2 pcs.
- Facades – 2081*497 = 3
- Tsarga – 100*1468 =1
- Drawer guides – 100*500 = 4 pcs.
- Internal drawer – 100*386 = 4 pcs.
- Bottom of drawers – 497*415 = 2 pieces (fibreboard)
- Partition – 2068 * 575 =1
- Wall – 2081*1497 = 1 (fibreboard)
- Planks – 976*50 =1
- 476*50 = 1
List of materials: chipboard, fiberboard, edges, confirmations, screws, handles, legs, guides, rod.
Based on the detailing, we see that the detail “ext. bar." It is necessary for boxes. If it is not installed, then when the facade is opened, the drawer will simply rest against the facade and will not open. That's why this detail is needed. Many novice furniture makers do not take this point into account. As a result, the drawer fronts and internal strips are redone. So. Please pay attention to this, I think no one needs the extra costs.
Now let's look at the bottom. Since the cabinet is a large product and a large load will go to the bottom. It is necessary to attach the legs to the bottom. I use kitchen legs. They have their advantages:
- low cost;
- possibility of height adjustment. Since not everyone has level floors when installing furniture, using the legs you can easily adjust the cabinet;
- load distribution. Otherwise, over time, with prolonged load on the bottom, it may simply go inside.
Now I would like to draw your attention to the peculiarity of the layout of the shelves in such a cabinet. When assembling, most people are faced with the problem of how to make the markings correctly so that all the shelves are level. Let's assume that the bottom shelf needs to be made 45 cm, and our drawers will be 30 cm. As a result, we get (450+300 = 750 mm).
It is known that the length of the sidewall is 2184 mm.
Tree
Of course, we couldn’t ignore the facades that imitate wood patterns. Even 5 years ago, this was the most popular design option for sliding wardrobes, especially for the hallway. Now, to make such a cabinet look relevant, choose textures that are as close to natural as possible - with color transitions, irregularities and knots.
All those models in which the “tree” looks like a carbon copy are completely out of fashion this season. Design returns to naturalness, where imperfections are not a flaw, but simply a distinctive feature.
At the same time, the cabinet should not look like the lining that is used to cover balconies. Therefore, under no circumstances choose a façade that supposedly consists of small boards. The larger the components, the more refined it will look. Take note of an interesting design technique: when the pattern from one door moves to another naturally.
Also, a design located vertically rather than horizontally looks more advantageous. In this case, it visually makes the cabinet taller. After all, you always want to “raise” the ceiling at least a little. But making furniture more massive in appearance than it actually is is unlikely.
The main shade of wood in the 2019-2020 season can be called the color of walnut, which goes into warm shades. In fact, it can be combined with absolutely any colors. But it looks just perfect in a classic but win-win combination with white and black.
Wood can also be an integral design element. But let us emphasize once again that we are in favor of separating furniture items. Therefore, we do not recommend making a soft niche or bench connected to a wardrobe. Although there are now quite a lot of such design projects on the market, even if they look more or less nice for the first year, over time they will very quickly go out of fashion.
How to choose the perfect option for a room
When choosing any environment, there is a simple algorithm that allows you to purchase the most suitable update for the interior. It looks something like this:
- Study the offers on the market in your city. Find out the cost, study the parameters, look for customer reviews. This stage does not involve visiting a retail outlet in person, since there are now enough online stores.
- When contacting dealers of foreign companies, be sure to check with the Russian representative office of the company whether the chosen intermediary is really an official dealer - this way you will protect yourself from scammers.
- Call a measurer if you plan to order custom furniture. A specialist will advise you on the design features of the selected model and help you decide on the necessary internal contents. Moreover, a competent specialist will recommend the optimal place where you can install a double-door wardrobe. This is a very important question if you purchase a swing version.
- The preliminary cost should be announced in the store when the project is approved. The final cost is announced after clarification of all issues. When ordering custom-made furniture, keep in mind that the waiting period can take up to 1.5 months - this depends on the manufacturer’s workload.
- Order cabinet assembly. Self-assembly will take a lot of time and effort; professionals will assemble and install the furniture in a matter of minutes. The cost of such work is usually low. After assembly, all that remains is to sign the acceptance certificate.
Any furniture is an investment. Sometimes quite significant. In any case, when buying furniture, you expect that it will serve you for more than one year. A 2-door wardrobe is a popular option for home and office furnishings among consumers. In order for it to store your clothes for a long time, you should carefully consider the process of choosing it and follow the basic rules of caring for furniture.
The basis for the durability of any furniture is the material used in production. Most folding clothing storage areas are made from chipboard or MDF. You can find variations made of wood and metal. Metal cabinets are preferred to be installed in locker rooms of sports complexes and fitness centers. Solid wood models are expensive and beautiful, but expensive - they are bought by people with an unlimited budget. The average buyer chooses models made from chipboard, getting the most budget-friendly 2-door wardrobe of original design.
The internal content is selected based on the buyer's goals. For vertical storage, the cabinets have rods, horizontal storage - open shelves, underwear can be stored in drawers, and shoes can be stored on metal mesh shelves. The more things will be stored inside, the stronger the selected sample should be. This is achieved by choosing a model made of thicker material.
Important! Ties, belts, scarves can be stored on a special bar attached to the door. The best option would be a specially adapted drawer - a cassette box, in which there is its own cell for each item.
For a small room, choose corner options. Wardrobe doors can be either hinged or compartment doors. The design is also different. The original option would be translucent doors made of tinted frosted glass.
Important! The weight of a custom cabinet can be significantly reduced by ordering a thinner door panel.
Mini wardrobes
The concept of a wardrobe should not be taken too narrowly. Sometimes, instead of a closet, it is much more rational to make a mini-wardrobe with sliding doors. In this case, the facades can be any of the above, you just need to provide high-quality lighting inside and do not forget to install handles on the inside of the door.
It looks very impressive when the facade of the mini-wardrobe in the hallway matches the color and material of the interior doors. Or it is close to them in tone, but made of a different material.
The most important conclusion is - don’t chase a complex design, it doesn’t look stylish for a long time. A game based on nuances looks much more interesting. Otherwise, whether the wardrobe will be an accent in your hallway or, on the contrary, a completely neutral element, depends only on your taste preferences and the flight of design ideas!
