The owner of the apartment is an adult, accomplished woman. She approached the Insomnia studio with a clearly formulated technical specification: she wanted to turn a typical semi-detached apartment into an apartment with a full bedroom and living room.

“It couldn’t have happened without redevelopment. We dismantled the partitions that separated the corridor from the storage room and bedroom. According to the project, a sliding door appeared between the walk-through living room and the bedroom, which not only saves space, but also imitates a large window. We also made a partition between the corridor and the kitchen - we placed a TV on it. We coped with the task,” say the designers.

The authors of the project used an unusual finishing technique: ceramic granite was laid on the floor in all rooms - it imitates a parquet board. The walls were mostly painted, the living room area was highlighted with striped wallpaper, and the wall behind the sofa was decorated with wood with a herringbone pattern.

The housewife has a lot of things and books that she hates to part with: the designers have come up with a sufficient number of storage places for them. A mirrored chest of drawers was installed in the hallway, as well as a closet under the ceiling. Favorite books took their place in the arched niche behind the sofa, and a wardrobe was designed for clothes in the bedroom.

“The customer wanted a bright apartment and we suggested that she use powdery shades in the design. Muted pink shades dominate in the bedroom and bathroom; in the living room, the accent is an olive shelving unit and a soft sofa with floral upholstery,” say the designers.

The furniture is mostly white: the high light facades of the kitchen unit make the kitchen space more formal, and the bed with a soft headboard in the bedroom is conducive to relaxation.   • Therefore, today the owners of such “apartments”, in order to somehow improve the functionality of their housing, are trying to do the opposite - to rid the inconvenient small-sized housing of partitions, getting one, more spacious room. At the same time, not knowing exactly which apartment can be converted into a studio, they sometimes only get themselves into trouble.
  • They are connected with the fact that not every partition can be demolished. If it is a load-bearing wall, no one will issue a permit. Well, apartment owners who did not apply for it at all will, at a minimum, never be able to sell their apartment.
