Anton Teterekov

Today's designers are increasingly opting for a sink with a cabinet in the bathroom, and I fully support them. The balance between convenience and attractiveness creates a high level of comfort. When decorating a bathroom, the main thing is not only to arrange it beautifully, but also to do everything so that it is convenient to use the plumbing fixtures and furniture.

A sink with a cabinet or a familiar tulip - which is better?

When I started renovating my small apartment, the question arose - how to profitably use the useful space in the bathroom?

This cabinet will create a high level of comfort

I have used a tulip sink my entire adult life. There is hardly a single person who does not know what it looks like: an ordinary shell resting on a leg. It does not look bulky, goes with many styles and fulfills its main role in the bathroom.

Another advantage of the tulip is that the stem hides all communications. To store various household and bath accessories, you have to install a cabinet or wall cabinet next to the sink. The area of occupied space doubles.

Tulip sink in the interior

I found a profitable replacement on sale - a sink with a cabinet, where the latter replaces the tulip leg and serves as a separate piece of furniture for storing everything you need. I think this is one of the best purchases for my bathroom.

Knowing the basic steps of product production, you can protect your budget from unnecessary expenses.

Models with built-in mirror

For the convenience of customers, manufacturers have released another new product on store shelves. The compact model, equipped with built-in mirror panels, is optimally combined with any style of bathroom interior.

Mirrors can be arranged linearly in one section or on adjacent wall panels. The design of mirrors with built-in modular lamps along the contour of the frame is very interesting.

Rules for choosing a cabinet

When I touched upon the issue of purchasing closely, it turned out that the range of sinks with cabinets is simply huge. The difference between different models lies not only in external data, but also in internal content, materials from which they are made, and type of installation. I decided to understand the basic intricacies of manufacturing the structure in order to be able to choose the best option without outside help.

The range of such sinks is simply huge.

The cabinet is responsible for such an advantage as multifunctionality. You can buy it ready-made or order it according to individual parameters - then you can design the contents inside yourself. Suitable for the cabinet under the sink:

  • different types of shelves, including those with height adjustment;
  • drawers;
  • built-in laundry baskets.

The larger the size of the cabinet, the more freedom you can give to your imagination - this is logical. The sizes in most companies are standard: 50, 60 and 80 cm. The smaller option will hide communications and is suitable for storing household chemicals, 60 cm can accommodate even a small basket, and the third size has sufficient reserve for mounting everything together.

The advantage of such a cabinet is its versatility

The largest cabinet size has a serious drawback: not all types of installation are suitable for it. Or rather, all are possible, but one of them is unsafe. I will tell you about all the methods in more detail.

A cabinet with maximum dimensions, due to its potentially large weight at full load, can only be installed on a reliable support, on the floor.

Shape and size

Bedside tables designed for the bathroom vary in shape.

  • Square - come with shelves or drawers. A washbasin, washing machine or laundry basket are often built into such cabinets.
  • Angular. They come with shelves, with one door or open.
  • Rectangular - with folding or sliding doors.

  • In the form of a pencil case - narrow and tall cabinets with one or two doors.

Installation types

Bathroom cabinets, depending on the type of installation, are found in two main versions:

  • floor;
  • hanging.

The buyer cannot always choose the method himself. Certain furniture and plumbing fixtures require a specific installation method. Consultants in stores should warn about such features in advance in order to save the client from unplanned waste and frayed nerves in the future.

Bathroom furniture with dimensions of 80 cm or more are usually not considered as a hanging option. If the load is too heavy, the strongest fastenings may fail and break, causing damage to the cladding on the walls and floor. And a plasterboard wall will not support even a standard cabinet 50 cm wide.

Floor models

A sink with a floor cabinet is a classic, kind of traditional option. The simple design eliminates installation with “troubles” and does not require special knowledge. Most buyers who are alien to non-standard styles and fashionable innovations opt for such models.

Classic style

Floor-mounted sink cabinets can also be divided into three subtypes:

With a base. It is a structure in the base of which there is not the slightest gap between the floor and the bottom of the cabinet. The furniture will of course be stable, but only if the floor is perfectly flat. Frequent accumulation of water on the floor will cause destruction of the base, and the inability to carry out thorough cleaning will inevitably lead to the formation of mold.

Before purchasing a cabinet with a plinth, inquire about the possibility of replacing it in case of damage.

Traditional option

On a pedestal. The base of the furniture is formed by the continuation of the side walls, and less often also the back. Unlike a plinth base, cleaning underneath a pedestal cabinet will be difficult, but not impossible. The key negative factor is the gradual destruction of the furniture walls due to water getting on the floor.

On legs. Most often, the legs are made of chromed metal, which is not afraid of moisture, and they are also equipped with special screws for adjusting the height. They do not obstruct access to the floor under the structure. Of all the flooring options, I would definitely choose this one.

Suspended installation type

Wall-mounted sink cabinets do not touch the floor and are mounted on the wall. Optimal for design in high-tech, minimalism, avant-garde, modern and the like. The formation of fungus or mold under the cabinet is excluded, since nothing interferes with the high-quality removal of moisture and debris.

Hanging type of product

The hanging type is a frequent choice of designers when decorating small spaces. The absence of a base for the cabinet visually increases the space. Due to the specifics of installation, bulky furniture cannot be installed on the wall, therefore, for a large bathroom, preference is given to floor-standing furniture.

The strength and quality of the chosen fasteners determines the service life of the furniture in the future. If, when renovating a bathroom, you plan to cover the walls with plastic or plasterboard, you should take care in advance of installing fasteners into the main wall.

Advice With this type of installation, you should choose cabinets no larger than 60 cm in size, with a small and compact sink.

The formation of fungus or mold is excluded under the cabinet

If, contrary to the recommendations, a larger cabinet is purchased, then the installation should be entrusted to a trusted specialist. It is important to take into account the reliability of the chosen fastening in order to eliminate the risk of collapse of the structure. Otherwise, you can not only damage furniture and surface cladding, but also disrupt plumbing communications.

Materials for production

The cost of the cabinet is mainly the material used in the manufacture of all parts. But in our case, not everything that is expensive means better.

Bathroom furniture is constantly exposed to water and steam - the selected material should be as resistant to moisture as possible.

A method of combining different options in one product is often used. It allows you to imitate the structure of natural raw materials and improve the quality of inexpensive material. The production of bathroom furniture is often based on the described method.

Advice Cheap materials are a harbinger of furniture replacement within 4-5 years. If, in order to purchase a truly high-quality product, you should not prioritize the low price.

Chipboard and MDF

The most common and affordable materials of all. They have fairly good performance properties, but subject to the presence of a protective coating. Both are made from compressed wood waste, so in their pure form they are resistant to moisture.

To protect against external factors, the surface of MDF and chipboard is covered with:

  • varnish;
  • acrylic;
  • film;
  • plastic.

Depending on the type of coating, it may need to be renewed after a year or more. MDF is more expensive due to better quality and higher safety.

Note: To save on purchases and improve the quality of the finished product, you can make the frame from chipboard and the outer cladding from MDF. In this way, it will be possible to reduce costs by 20-25% compared to a cabinet made entirely of MDF.

Plastic

Another relatively cheap material, which is very often taken as the basis for making furniture. A cabinet with a sink made of plastic panels has fairly tolerable performance properties:

  • constant contact with water is absolutely harmless;
  • the occurrence of fungus or mold is excluded;
  • the material is easy to process;
  • susceptible to mechanical damage - the main drawback.

Plastic option

Constant use of the cabinet will lead to the formation of small scratches on the surface over time. A strong impact can cause the panel to become significantly deformed. Failed parts cannot be repaired and the likelihood of replacement may be debatable.

Despite the shortcomings, plastic bathroom cabinets always remain in demand. Thanks to modern technologies, the facade can be made:

  • straight;
  • bent.

Pictures and patterns can be easily applied to the surface; the color palette is not limited.

Tree

The most expensive cabinets with sinks are made of natural wood. They truly look luxurious, which emphasizes the status of the home owner. Direct contact of wood with water is fraught with consequences, this must be taken into account when purchasing.

Wooden model

To prevent wood from deforming over time due to constant exposure to moisture and temperature changes, the surface of the furniture must be coated with:

  • oils;
  • varnishes;
  • wax.

After a certain period of time, the coating layer must be renewed. It is optimal that a good ventilation system is installed in the bathroom.

To make a bathroom cabinet, I advise you to choose one of the types of wood.

The most expensive cabinets with sinks are made of natural wood

Metal and glass

In my opinion, these are the two materials that are least used in bathroom interiors. If we talk about metal, no matter how thick the layer of protective coating is, it is impossible to stop the development of corrosion on metal. Only stainless steel is not subject to this process, but it looks very unusual.

Option using metal

The most daring design solutions may feature forged metal elements. They cannot serve as the basis for the entire structure, but when combined with the same wood, you will definitely get a gorgeous result.

Glass varieties are as rare as metal ones. The thought immediately comes to the fragility of the material, however, for the manufacture of such pieces of furniture, special high-strength tempered glass is used. All traumatic edges must be rounded.

I would like to note that glass is absolutely not afraid of moisture or high temperature. The only catch is that you will have to carefully care for such a surface. After all, even water stains will be clearly visible.

Glass is a rare and unusual material for such a product.

Tip To prevent the contents of the cabinet from being visible through the glass doors, it is better to pay attention to a model made of colored or frosted glass.

Cabinets with plinth

These designs have their pros and cons. Their main advantage is simple and easy installation. It is necessary to assemble the structure and install it correctly.

It should be noted that such models are equipped with a base that fits tightly to the floor. This is the root cause of the appearance of mold and mildew on the bottom of the cabinet, so after a certain period of time the product becomes unusable.

Types of shells

Once the choice of cabinet has become obvious, it’s time to move on to choosing a sink. Even though these are two different elements, in the end you will get one solid product in the bathroom interior. Therefore, the sink and cabinet should look harmonious together.

The main criteria for choosing a sink, regardless of the parameters of its support:

Magnitude. A large sink on a bulky cabinet will look rude in the interior of a small bath, just as a small sink will “get lost” in a spacious room.

Unity of style. The washbasin should match the overall design of the bathroom.

Ergonomics. Characterizes ease of use - location, height, availability of space for personal hygiene items, etc.

Safety. Due to their fragility, glass sinks are not safe for small children. You should be careful when choosing wall-mounted washbasins; built-in and supported ones are much safer.

The standard width of an average sink is from 50 to 65 cm. The maximum is 90 cm. At the same time, there are also non-standard models with a width of up to 50 cm and over 90 cm. If there is a need to install an even larger sink, then it makes sense to consider the option of installing two washbasins.

Shapes and colors of bathroom sinks

Technological advances and the variety of materials that can be processed make it possible to produce sinks in a wide variety of shapes. Quite unusual, far from geometric - this is avant-garde. I want to draw your attention to those that can be found in all specialized stores:

  • rectangular - a universal type, suitable for almost any interior;
  • round - must be combined in design with other round objects;
  • square - would be appropriate in a simple style;
  • oval - a non-standard shape that best suits a similar design.

Contrary to the prevailing stereotype, the sink should not only be white. Even the brightest colors can successfully fit into the overall style if they are selected correctly. Hand painting on ceramics or glass is becoming increasingly popular, but such pleasure is not cheap.

Requirements for purchased products

Any furniture is evaluated, first of all, according to a number of practical criteria. The linen storage cabinet is no exception. The optimal product is compact in size but has sufficient capacity, which is important for the rational organization of available space.

In addition to the form, there are a number of equally important requirements for the purchased products:

  1. Strength of the frame and support. Before making a purchase, you should evaluate the qualitative composition of the base material, study the characteristics, care requirements, and resistance to chemically aggressive detergents.
  2. For hanging accessories, it is imperative to evaluate the total weight of the structure and the reliability of the fastenings.
  3. Resistance of the surface to constantly high humidity, washing, cleaning, and abrasive substances.
  4. The surface of the cabinet should not crack too quickly, otherwise it will ruin the appearance of the product. Most often, cabinets made from chipboard panels and poorly processed wood are subject to such changes.
  5. Design, namely shape, size, external decoration, is a very important criterion for selection.
  6. Dimensions of the purchased product. 50 cm cabinets for the bathroom are very compact and optimal.

They also pay attention to the cost, which can be presented in a wide price range. An inexpensive bathroom vanity can be stylish and functional in practice.

Tabletop for a large cabinet

If the built-in sink does not occupy the entire surface area of the cabinet, then a countertop is required to install other models. In many models, it is a continuation of the walls of the cabinet, that is, it is made from the same material and has the same structure. To diversify the design and add zest to the finished interior, you can order a tabletop that is different from the main construction material.

Tabletop option for a large cabinet

The size of the tabletop is not limited by the parameters of the cabinet. At the client's request, a wider or longer surface can be made, which will create additional space for storing personal hygiene items. In addition, you can place a laundry basket under it or install a washing machine.

Advice Entrust measurements for the manufacture of countertops to a specialist from the company where the order will be placed. An error of even 1 cm can cause a complete replacement of the element.

Materials

The bathroom often maintains a high level of humidity and temperature changes occur. Therefore, when selecting a material for a countertop, it is necessary to take into account all its properties so as not to encounter unpleasant “surprises”.

  • Chipboard and MDF . A common, relatively inexpensive option; the entire cabinet is often made from similar raw materials. They are mainly covered with a laminating film with a pattern that can imitate natural materials. With constant use, chipboard lasts very little; MDF, due to its better quality, can be used for several years.
  • Fake diamond . One of the frequently used options for countertops. Not afraid of water, ultraviolet radiation and mechanical damage, durable. It costs more than most materials, which always justifies the excellent quality.
  • A natural stone . Looks luxurious in spacious bathrooms and is resistant to most irritants. The disadvantages are too much weight and the impossibility of restoration in the event of a chip.

  • Tree. It is expensive, requires a high-quality protective layer from moisture and its constant renewal.
  • Glass. It does not deform over time, does not lose transparency, but complicates the cleaning process.
  • Drywall covered with mosaic or tiles. A good option if you choose a high-quality moisture-resistant grout for joints.

Solid worktops with sink

A countertop with a solid cast sink is still a rare variety due to its high cost and complex technology. Problems of deformation, swelling of the material or the formation of mold become alien to those whose budget allows for such purchases. The design is a monolithic countertop with a recess in the plane, which serves as a sink.

Solid countertops are made from artificial stone, earthenware or porcelain. There are completely no seams or joints, so water leakage is excluded. The quality of the raw materials guarantees the durability of the entire structure.

The properties of artificial stone make it possible to give products any size and shape. Porcelain and earthenware in their pure form look elegant. Products made from noble ceramics do not require unnecessary artificial processing, and the material itself is quite expensive, not to mention the nuances of working with it.

Types of dresser tops

Most dresser models include the use of the top bar as a functional shelf. Often they are equipped with countertops for this purpose. This is not just about protection. This approach allows you to make the chest of drawers an original element of room design. Types of countertops can be:

  • With integrated sink bowl. In this case, the recess for the sink is a design feature of the countertop. They are manufactured monolithically - inseparable from each other;
  • Classic. It is a solid, smooth canvas that replaces the top panel of the frame. To install the sink, you will have to cut a special hole in it.

They are made from the following materials:

  • Wood. It is better to polish it with varnish. Impregnation with antiseptics is required;
  • All types of wood-based panels will require additional coating;
  • Durable polymers;
  • Shock-resistant glass;
  • A natural stone. Do not clean with aggressive agents or abrasives;
  • Agglomerate. This is a mixture of natural stone and synthetic (no more than 10% of the total mass);
  • Fake diamond. Easy to scratch.

The most common method of decoration is cutting a figured edge - a chamfer. There are several main types:

  • Convex. The cross-section gives a quarter circle;
  • Concave. The same element is cut out in the form of a depression;
  • Round. On the cut you can see half a circle;
  • Roller. More stretchable in length. The cross-sectional shape is closer to half an oval;
  • Half roller (quarter oval);
  • Euro chamfer. There is one shortened rib along the top. Cut at an angle of 45° to the straight edge;
  • Double rib. Several straight or beveled recesses are cut. Each subsequent one is slightly larger than the top one.

These elements are considered simple. If you combine them, you can create several dozen chamfers with a more complex and structural pattern.

In addition, the top of a chest of drawers without a sink can be painted or decorated with small tiles.

Design forms

In specialized stores I came across two types of cabinets with sinks: rectangular and corner. Here the choice no longer depends on your own whim, but on the nuances of the bathroom layout. If a corner of the room remains unused after arranging other items, then the choice of type of furniture becomes obvious.

Corner design

Rectangular cabinets are a classic type of furniture, which is chosen by 90 out of 100 buyers. Depending on the dimensions of the furniture, drawers, shelves, and special compartments are located inside. The sink is built into the surface, the siphon is hidden inside the cabinet.

Corner designs are optimal when you need to use a free corner in the plumbing room. They are more spacious compared to rectangular ones. Usually have the shape of a trapezoid or triangle.

Rectangular cabinets - a classic type of furniture

A separate advantage of corner cabinets is the ability to install a large sink, while still leaving enough space for storing personal hygiene items. Semi-built-in sinks are not installed in such structures.

Linear options in the interior

A traditional option for decorating a shower area. It is a compact cabinet for storing personal belongings, linen, towels and personal hygiene items. Most often it is located near the wall under the mirror.

When carrying out functional zoning, it acts as an economic zone. As a rule, it has a stylishly designed facade, a sufficient number of closed shelves and several drawers.

Bathroom cabinet with two sinks

For spacious bathrooms, where the space allows you to give free rein to your imagination, an excellent solution would be to buy two sinks with a cabinet. In a large family, such an acquisition is especially justified. But in small-sized housing, of course, a second sink will be superfluous.

Option for spacious bathrooms

Among the main advantages I would like to highlight:

  • saving time when getting all family members together in the morning - two people can carry out hygiene procedures at the same time;
  • more chances to create a design “with a twist”;
  • you can arrange a special hygienic regime, for example, give one sink for the use of children, and the other will remain only for adults;
  • one of the family members can occupy one sink and arrange personal items according to their convenience - which will not disturb loved ones and guests.

Ideal for a large family

The range of cabinets with two sinks is completely unlimited. Any shapes, sizes, configurations, colors - whatever the designer and the customer’s soul desires. The basic rule is to try to match the chosen design of the entire bathroom.

Corner models in the interior

Corner cabinets are most often used for bathrooms with small free space. Such accessories are installed in compact corners, along two adjacent walls.

A new product from the manufacturers is a cabinet with a built-in mirror panel. Thanks to its stylish decor, maximum practicality and compact size, it is a very popular furniture series among users.

Choosing a place

It is necessary to decide where the new cabinet with sink will be installed in the bathroom before purchasing it. The task is simple if the new structure is installed in place of the old sink. When remodeling a bathroom, the location of the future placement of plumbing communications should be taken care of in advance.

Choose your sink location wisely

Why is it so important to determine the location of the sink at the beginning of renovation work:

  • A drawn up plan diagram of the bathroom indicating all the elements will help determine the optimal size of the cabinet with sink. Consider all plumbing details and the distance that the door will take when open inward.
  • Water pipes coming out of the wall can rest against the shelves and drawers of the selected cabinet. To avoid having to cut out pieces of material, essentially stealing useful space and damaging furniture, you should adjust the contents inside at the time of ordering.
  • I highly recommend installing a sewer pipe next to the water pipes. Otherwise, to pull the corrugated hose to the siphon, you will have to make a hole at the bottom of the cabinet.

Make a bathroom plan

When all the nuances are taken into account, you can begin laying out sewer pipes, as well as hot and cold water. Global redevelopment requires highly specialized knowledge, so it is better to seek professional help . Preventing a problem is much easier than spending energy on eliminating it.

A cabinet without a sink in a bathroom interior – why is it needed, advantages

Installing a cabinet yourself without washing will give you the following advantages:

  • Full capacity. The interior space will be at your disposal in full;
  • The top can be used as an additional shelf. For these purposes, the cabinet is equipped with a tabletop;
  • There is no need to limit your choices. You can purchase a model with absolutely any parameters. Install a very low but wide cabinet. Or vice versa, elongated in height;
  • Without a sink, installation of wall-mounted options is greatly simplified;
  • Versatility. You can put anything in it. From towels to toothbrushes.

There is only one minus - there must be enough space in the bathroom. Strict limitations in meters will not allow your imagination to run wild.

Additional accessories

Along with choosing a cabinet and a suitable sink, no less attention should be paid to the selection of accessories. Their quality determines how comfortable the furniture will be to use. The same goes for its durability.

For example, handles on doors and drawers not only serve a practical function, but can also become a special design highlight.

There is no need to give preference to gold-plated fittings or those made of plastic; believe me, they will fail quickly enough. It is optimal to purchase handles made of chromed metal.

Many people do not pay attention to the quality of the hinges on the doors, believing that they can save money on this accessory. I disagree - the higher the quality of the hinges, the longer the furniture will last without squeaks or rust. Not to mention the fact that the door will not hold on at all on a faulty hinge.

A mirror is often purchased along with the cabinet and sink. Placing it above the washbasin will make hygiene procedures much more convenient. The design of the selected mirror must correspond to the design of the structure: with or without a frame, with a pattern along the edge or a shelf at the bottom - it’s up to you to decide.

Tabletops

The most effective use of the cabinet will be made possible by installing a tabletop. Dressers for bathrooms without a sink are immediately equipped with this element. In addition to increasing the functionality of the furniture, they allow you to create an unusual design in the room.

Can be made from the following types of materials:

  • A natural stone. As a standard, several types of stone are used, with slightly different properties. Quartz is the most durable. Even if you run a knife across the countertop, there will be no marks left on it. Granite. It contains quartz, which gives strength. But it may be too little. There is a risk of running into syenite, which contains no more than 5–10%. This type of tabletop can crack quite easily. Marble. The most expensive and capricious stone. But it looks the best. It must be rubbed with special waxes. Otherwise it will absorb dirt. All varieties are not recommended to be cleaned with harsh abrasives and aggressive agents;
  • Fake diamond. The agglomerate is conditionally artificial (at least 90% natural inclusions). Rough, porous. Not afraid of heat and soft abrasives. Acrylic stone (Corian) is more sensitive to mechanical stress. Easily scratched. Although, this defect can be removed by polishing. Afraid of high temperatures;
  • Wood. Durable material with a high level of decorativeness. Polishing and varnishing significantly reduces susceptibility to water. Requires careful care. Do not use detergents with acids or dyes;
  • Glass. Use hardened samples with increased thickness. It can be colored, corrugated, matte, patterned. But, all varieties are united by instability to the appearance of scratches that cannot be disguised;
  • Ceramics. The basis is moisture-resistant plasterboard with galvanized profiles. The entire surface is decorated with small ceramic tiles. Very impressive, but the seams can become a source of fungus. Regular treatment is required.

Types of bathroom cabinets

Bathrooms in all multi-story buildings are small in size. Therefore, many bedside table manufacturers produce various products that have different sizes and shapes. It is worth highlighting the most popular types of cabinets:

  • pencil case;
  • bedside tables with countertops;
  • corner cabinets;
  • floor products;
  • built-in bedside tables;
  • roll-out cabinets.

Pencil case

A bathtub cabinet is often available in the form of a pencil case. This product is convenient to use for small spaces because it takes up little space. It is multifunctional and practical. The presence of shelves and drawers allows you to put linen, towels, cosmetics, shampoos, powders, shower gels, and washcloths there. Sometimes you can find models with a mirror, which provides additional convenience when washing.

Types of pencil cases:

  • floor;
  • mounted;
  • angular;
  • with open or closed sections;
  • with doors or pull-out shelves;
  • wardrobe in the form of a compartment.

Floor-standing

Floor cabinets and pencil cases are elongated products with a large number of shelves and drawers. A distinctive feature of this design is its location - it is located at the bottom of the bathroom. This arrangement may seem inconvenient to many, but in fact, with certain features of the bathroom layout, this product can significantly save space. They come with doors, drawers or shelves.

It has a number of advantages:

  • easy assembly and installation. You can install the pencil case yourself without the help of professionals;
  • ability to store a large amount of hygiene products. You can easily put away linen, towels, washcloths, and detergents there;
  • quality material. Typically, the composition of these products is dominated by durable wood (oak, hazel), which is impregnated with a special composition that does not allow moisture to pass through. There are plastic and glass structures.

Mounted

Wall-mounted pencil cases are practically no different from other types in terms of function from other products. They can also store various accessories, detergents, and laundry. They are usually installed above the sink. They can have doors, drawers, or mirrors. They are made from different materials, often made of wood, which is dominated by oak, usually a wooden pencil case is coated with a special composition that does not allow moisture to pass through.

Corner

A corner cabinet in the form of a pencil case is a common option. This option is quite convenient for the bathroom, because it allows you to accommodate all the necessary things. If corner structures are used in the bathroom, then the presence of other cabinets there will no longer be needed.

A corner type pencil case usually consists of several compartments. The first upper compartment is equipped with doors, where you can store detergents, shampoos, powders and other hygiene products. The second compartment is equipped with drawers and shelves that are designed for storing washcloths, sponges, soap dishes and other items. Usually there is a basket at the bottom where you can store laundry. This type of pencil case is convenient to use for small bathrooms when it is not possible to install a large number of items.

Chest of drawers in a bathroom without a sink

Previously, chests of drawers were the subject of bedroom sets; linen and bedding were stored in them. A typical bathroom was equipped with ordinary furniture and plumbing fixtures; no one had heard of chests of drawers. Currently, when preparing a bathroom interior project, designers have proposed a chest of drawers as a separate element. It looks great with other furniture, has become indispensable in use, and stores all the necessary items in it.

Looks great with other furniture

Like other furniture, chests of drawers come in:

  • plastic;
  • wooden;
  • combined from different materials.

And a modern bathroom now cannot even be imagined without such an item as a chest of drawers; it is necessary and useful as:

  • shower cabin;
  • nightstand;
  • mirror.

What can they be made of?

A chest of drawers in a bathroom, like other elements, can be made from a variety of materials:

  • plastic;
  • wood;
  • MDF and chipboards.

Such materials have been used for a long time, and manufacturing technology is improved every year. But, like other materials, they have different reviews and characteristics - some respond positively and recommend them, while others find negative aspects.

Material

1 MDF

Furniture made from finely dispersed fraction is durable; the basis of this material is a mixture of wood chips and advanced polymers. But this mixture does not tolerate moisture well; to give it strength, experts coat the surface with special paint or glue it with protective films with a decorative effect. For the manufacture of chests of drawers, MDF boards are a good option; they are rational to use, easy to cut, this makes it possible to give the product the required shape, the desired unevenness, and configuration.

The chest of drawers can be made from different materials

2 Chipboard

But furniture made from particleboard is highly sensitive to moisture. Production is based on larger chips. Due to the fact that the raw material absorbs moisture very much, they try to cover it as much as possible with a special water-repellent coating. This material is used to make chests of drawers, but unfortunately, after a short period of time, moisture makes itself felt.

Those parts of the chest of drawers that receive moisture, mainly the legs of the chest of drawers, can soften, the pressed shavings will crumble around the edges, and as a result the material will rot. Products made from such material are inexpensive, this is probably the only advantage of such material.

3 Plastic

But plastic furniture is not at all afraid of moisture. Such chests of drawers can be placed in any corner of the bathroom without thinking that the legs of the chest of drawers will be damaged. But, like any other material, plastic has significant disadvantages. Products made from it are fragile and delicate. You cannot put heavy things on them or place large objects, over time they can crack, even if you lean on such a chest of drawers with force, it may not stand it.

Plastic furniture is not at all afraid of moisture

There may be problems with the design here. Basically, they have a monochromatic color; to give them a special bright color, they are covered with a special film or paint is applied. Under the influence of constant moisture, the film and paint may deteriorate over time.

Furniture made from wood is the most expensive option, superior to plastic, furniture made from chipboard and MDF. Wood has this property thanks to a special impregnation, which makes the product durable and resistant to moisture. A chest of drawers made of natural wood is not hazardous to health, it is not chemical plastic. Decor can be achieved by coating the product in various ways - from varnish to polymer paint or film. Such a chest of drawers will really stand out against the background of the rest of the furniture, and, if necessary, and the selected texture will harmonize with other positions.

Made from natural wood

Having examined separately the advantages and disadvantages of all materials suitable for making a chest of drawers for the bathroom, we can draw a conclusion. One of the best materials is wood, but if its price seems high, you can consider MDF, which is well suited for making this furniture.

Types of chests of drawers

Based on their designs, chests of drawers for use in the bathroom mainly come in two types - straight and angular. Chests of any design in the bathroom look beautiful and stylish, it all depends on their placement and what other furniture they will harmonize with. Before ordering a chest of drawers, you need to decide where it will look best - near the wall or in the corner:

A straight chest of drawers is a regular chest of drawers, similar to the one found in a bedroom. It is usually located along the wall and harmonizes well in the bathroom. The height, width and length of the product can be very different, depending on the size of the bathroom itself and the customer’s wishes. Over time, such models are increasingly improved, manufacturers offer new configuration options that save space and increase the possibility of storing more things in the chest of drawers.

Looks like a chest of drawers that is placed in the bedroom

Corner chest of drawers is a more modern version of the chest of drawers. Due to its original design, it can easily fit into any corner of the bathroom, while occupying a minimum of space. This is very convenient if the space near the wall is occupied by other furniture, and the corners are left empty. Such chests of drawers can be either plastic or wooden.

Design features of chests of drawers

Today, chests of drawers used in the bathroom do not at all resemble the furniture that was before - large, bulky and clumsy. Now these are original models, completely different designs and designs, made individually, for each customer, from different materials.

Modern version

The main feature of a chest of drawers is that they basically have several large drawers in which you can store the most necessary things for the bathroom - from bathrobes to towels. Small drawers are mainly used to store small items.

If you wish, you can place here:

  • gels and powders for washing;
  • personal hygiene items;
  • toothpastes; shaving products.

You can also place the necessary accessories on the surface. Some models have a sink installed instead of a countertop.

I would also like to say about the original version of the chest of drawers, which has recently been in great demand. This is a dressing table. There can be a mirror at the top of the tabletop, which makes it possible to use it as a makeup table. And the height of perfection in the design of chests of drawers can be called products that simultaneously combine mirrors and sinks.

A classic that never goes out of style

Having such a design, the bathroom is not cluttered, there are no many hangings on the walls, everything necessary for bath procedures is in one place. But such multifunctional chests of drawers must be made of more durable materials than plastic, since they have a certain weight.

Types of bedside tables without a sink

Manufacturers produce various models of bathroom vanities without a sink to satisfy the needs of all categories of consumers. Such furniture is produced in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Let's talk about the most popular types of bedside tables without a washbasin for wet rooms:

  1. Pencil case. This type of bedside table is ideal for narrow but tall spaces. The product, measuring 30 by 100 cm, is very multifunctional and practical; it can combine shelves and drawers for storing miscellaneous items. It can be mounted on a wall (hanging) or simply installed on the floor (floor-standing) on legs or wheels (retractable). There are models of square, rectangular and cone-shaped (angular). The pencil case takes up little space, is easy to assemble and looks very stylish.

  1. Cabinet with tabletop. Fits perfectly into the interior of both large and small bathrooms. Combines many functions for storing cosmetics, hygiene products, linen, detergents, etc. Can be corner, hanging or floor. Will make the room very cozy, stylish and comfortable.
  1. Floor-standing - a convenient option on legs, with compact dimensions and good capacity. They are easy to install in any place, the height of the legs can be adjusted, achieving the most even installation. Withstand heavy loads without bending under heavy objects. They are made with drawers and/or doors, behind which convenient shelves are hidden. Some models include baskets for storing laundry.

  1. Wall-mounted – these models are practically no different from the floor-mounted version in terms of functionality. Wall-mounted cabinets are installed above the washing machine or sink; often a mirror is placed on the facade. But can also be made with drawers. Fits organically into almost any interior.

  1. Corner is an ideal option for saving space, since the corner model takes up a small space, but is very roomy. It can be floor-standing (with legs or plinth) and hanging. Floor-standing models are most often produced with doors or drawers, and wall-mounted ones with mirrors. The floor version with legs is more popular, since under such a bedside table it is easier to wipe the floor from dust, dirt and water.

  1. Built-in – a convenient option for combining with built-in household appliances (washing machine, electric water heater, geyser). The built-in model can contain shelves and drawers for storing a variety of hygiene items, as well as a basket for dirty laundry. This design saves space and allows you to hide communications, acting as a stylish and aesthetic element of decor.
  1. Roll-out - this model differs from other types of bedside tables without a sink in its mobility due to the presence of wheels instead of legs, and in its wide functionality. If necessary, such a cabinet is very easy to move. A roll-out design can also have drawers or doors, behind which you can store a lot of useful things.

To order, you can make a bedside table of any shape, size and design.
