Recently, the sliding wardrobe has become an integral part of the interior in any room. Built-in, cabinet, angular and straight with clear lines, original radius, made in a modern design - many of these models have a mirror as a mandatory part. Mirrored facades complement and change the overall perception of the interior; thanks to them, the room becomes brighter with the help of reflected light, and the space visually expands. A three-leaf wardrobe with a mirror will help to emphasize the elegance of the room, which can also breathe into any interior a special, at the same time light and solemn atmosphere. Decorated in a laconic style or with an original decor in the form of a sandblasted pattern applied to a mirror surface, such cabinets will be a great addition to both a classic interior and one made in modern fashion trends.
Design Features
A cabinet with three doors comes in different shapes, sizes, styles, colors, and contents. Even of medium size, it can accommodate the entire wardrobe of a person or the whole family. At the same time, thanks to different variations in the organization of the internal space, it allows you to separately and conveniently store seasonal clothes, shoes, bedding, bath accessories, casual clothes, and linen.
A couple of decades ago, a three-door wardrobe was presented as an option with hinged doors. Now there are designs with sliding doors, that is, sliding wardrobes. The doors do not swing open, but move away in one plane along special guides. However, the swing option is not losing ground.
When choosing one or another door option, you should take into account the characteristics of the room. Hinged ones are suitable for spacious rooms, since they require space to open them. Compartment designs significantly save space, making them suitable even for small rooms.
In general, such a cabinet is a body divided into two sections - a large and a smaller one. The first has two doors, the second has one. Today, when custom-made furniture is popular, you can come up with your own variations to suit every taste.
The peculiarity of a closet with three doors is that different options will be appropriate in any room. There is no clear purpose for a specific room. Looks appropriate in a nursery, bedroom, living room, hallway, corridor, bathroom, even on a balcony if it is used as a living space.
Manufacturing materials
A three-door wardrobe, like most pieces of cabinet furniture, is made of wood or wood-based panels.
Material | Advantages | Flaws |
Chipboard | Low cost, ease of installation, variety of models and decor. | Fragility, poor resistance to moisture and mechanical stress. |
MDF | Variety of decor options, availability, prevalence. | Less strength and durability compared to wood. |
Solid wood | Strength, durability, sophistication, status, exclusivity. | High cost, difficult to acquire. |
MDF
chipboard
Wood
Furniture made from chipboard will be a good option for rooms where durability is not required - for example, a children's room. As the child grows up, it’s easy to change it, and thanks to the low cost, it’s not so bad to have facades painted or otherwise damaged by kids. In addition, such cabinets can easily be decorated in a variety of ways. For the same nursery, there are options with bright drawings made using photo printing, for example, images of your favorite cartoon characters. Or just bright, cheerful colors.
Solid wood is not an option for everyone, because such furniture is created to last for centuries and may well become a family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation. A cabinet made of pure wood is not suitable for those who are used to changing their interior every two to three years. When purchasing it, you need to be prepared for the fact that it will last forever. You most likely won’t find a solid wood cabinet in a regular furniture store. Typically, such furniture is made to order in specialized factories. Thanks to this, you can purchase a truly exclusive item that will emphasize the status of its owners and create a unique atmosphere in the house.
As for MDF, today it is the most common material. Most modern cabinet furniture is made from it, including wardrobes. This is an affordable, fairly durable, easy-to-install material. It provides a lot of scope for imagination when making furniture. Its facades are decorated in various ways.
As for the additional materials used in the manufacture of three-leaf cabinets, these are decorative films that are used to cover the facades. In most cases, the design has a mirror. Metal fasteners with fittings and plastic parts are also used - for example, plugs for bolt holes.

Location options
The placement of this piece of furniture in the home space depends on its size, purpose, and design. Based on the type of construction, three-leaf wardrobes are divided into built-in or cabinet.
Built-in allows you to save on materials, since only facades and internal structures are made for it. The functions of the side and rear surfaces are performed by the walls of the room. This type of cabinet takes up space from wall to wall and is made to order according to individual sizes. Of course, it is convenient and practical. However, the built-in one will not allow you to rearrange the apartment or move it to another room. Therefore, it is necessary to think carefully in advance, weigh all the pros and cons, and carefully consider the location where it will be located throughout its existence.
A cabinet cabinet is a full-fledged product with all walls. It does not have to be selected or ordered wall to wall. You can put it anywhere and move it if you want. However, the cost of materials increases for him.
In small, narrow rooms - bathrooms, on the balcony, in the corridor or hallway - there are narrow models with sliding doors that do not take up excess space when opened. An impressively sized structure with hinged doors is placed in spacious bedrooms and living rooms, where it can replace an entire dressing room.
There are corner three-door cabinets. This option is compact, convenient, and saves a lot of space, especially in small rooms where the remaining walls are filled with furniture and the corners are left free. Moreover, such a solution can be no less capacious than the traditional option.
When choosing a cabinet with a mirror, it is important to think about its placement in the room in advance. The door with the mirror should be positioned so that nothing interferes with standing in front of it at full height and it is comfortable to look at.
Placement nuances
Depending on the method of placement, all three-leaf models are divided into built-in and cabinet-mounted. The first group is represented by cabinets hidden in niches, or compartment-type models that cover part of the room. In this case, less materials are needed to make furniture, but this method of placement is not always possible. Cabinet models, on the contrary, can be easily transported to any desired location, but in finished form they are more expensive.
When choosing a location for installing a three-door cabinet, the main guidelines are its dimensions, purpose and room parameters:
- Narrow models with sliding doors are installed on balconies, loggias and small corridors.
- A corner or radial cabinet is the optimal solution for placing in a free corner of small living rooms (including rooms cluttered with other furniture).
- In spacious bedrooms, preference is given to built-in wardrobes (including models with a mezzanine), covering one of the walls. However, it is not recommended to move them too far away from the beds.
- In studio apartments, three-leaf wardrobes are used for zoning purposes and are installed perpendicular to the walls.
- In children's rooms they are placed in niches or areas remote from the sleeping area. Preference is given to roomy but ergonomic corner models.
There are few general requirements: the closet should not block natural light or clutter up the space. Free access to the mirror, doors and internal filling is provided; the arrangement of furniture should be convenient for users. The purpose and features of the room are taken into account in advance, before purchasing or manufacturing the structure.
Narrow models with sliding doors are suitable for small corridors. A corner model is the optimal solution for placing in a free corner of a small living room. A built-in wardrobe that will occupy one of the walls will be appropriate in a spacious bedroom.
In a studio apartment, using a three-leaf wardrobe, you can zone the space by installing it perpendicular to the walls. When choosing furniture for a children's room, preference should be given to spacious but ergonomic corner models
Filling
A classic three-door wardrobe is divided into two sections: a large one with a crossbar for hanging clothes, a smaller one with shelves for knitwear and linen. Above and below the crossbar there are shelves for storing things, and there may be drawers below. The shelves run the entire length of the cabinet or are divided into smaller compartments. It is convenient to store hats on the top ones, and shoes on the bottom ones. They are also suitable for some seasonal items, bedding - pillows, blankets and more.
The narrow, single-door section is filled with shelves alone, or in combination with drawers. In modern designs, there is a shelf with a small crossbar on which you can hang belts, ties, scarves, neck jewelry, and other small items.
There are cabinets without a department with a crossbar at all, completely filled with shelves of various designs. There may also be separate sections at the bottom or at the top, not united by a common door. Below are shelves or drawers. Above is a mezzanine. They are also open.
An interesting and convenient option where, in addition to three doors, there is an addition in the form of a side rack with open shelves suitable for storing books, indoor plants, and decorative items. The rack can be on one side or on both. A three-door wardrobe with additional shelving is ideal for a one-room apartment, where the living room functions as a bedroom, since it combines a wardrobe with wall elements.
Color and style
Modern materials allow you to choose a three-door wardrobe of any color, even the most fantastic. But still more popular, as at all times, are the natural shades of various types of wood:
- wenge;
- Linden;
- oak;
- ash;
- maple;
- pear.
They are pleasing to the eye, look good, and fit into any interior. Cabinets in “wooden” colors are often decorated in an antique style. The vintage style is characterized by carved inserts and brass “openwork” fittings. A small, lightweight cabinet may have curved brass legs.
If the bedroom is decorated in the popular Provence style, it will be complemented by a wardrobe in light shades - milky, beige. Lightness and visual airiness of the design are important here. Provence is characterized by artificial aging - the creation of abrasions, interesting methods of coloring.
Modern styles, for example, hi-tech, do not accept excesses and many details. They are characterized by strict, clear lines, modern colors, and glossy surfaces. A wardrobe with completely mirrored doors is just from this style. Facades with a shiny, bright coating with a metallic sheen are also appropriate here.
Facades decorated with photo printing look interesting. The images are for both children’s rooms and “adults”. However, it is important to fit the option with a pattern correctly into the interior. If you don’t think through all the details, the closet will look like an extra, awkward spot.
Coloring and decor
Three-door products are available for sale in any color, including matte, glossy and printed. Before purchasing, experts advise you to familiarize yourself with the recommendations for selecting the shade and design of the cabinet, taking into account the expected style of the room. It is important to pay attention to both the shape of the furniture and the material from which it is made.
Interior type | Optimal design |
Vintage and antique styles | Imitation of natural wood (mainly maple or oak), carved inserts, forged openwork fittings, graceful curved legs |
Classic | Subdued tones, imitation of wood species in a wide range of colors, simple strict forms |
Provence | Milky and beige colors, ivory, artificial aging of surfaces. The three-door design placed in the room should not be bulky |
Modern styles: high-tech, futurism, neo-modern | Glossy or metallized surfaces, plenty of mirrors. Preference is given to strict, laconic designs with smooth or asymmetrical lines |
Scandinavian style | Imitation of light wood (alder or linden), straight lines. Accenting with dark inserts is allowed |
Country | Facades with carvings, decorative grilles, matting or blinds, textile textures |
Particularly in demand are models with white gloss colors (the best option for bedrooms), ivory-colored relief facades, glass doors with sandblasted patterns, geometric or artistic lines. Designers recommend choosing a three-leaf wardrobe taking into account the size of the room, the colors of other interior items and the degree of illumination. Three-leaf cabinets with mirrors, shiny or light-colored facades (linden, ash, bleached wood) help to visually expand the space. Dark colors like wenge look good in spacious rooms with modern interiors and light walls. It is better to avoid contrasts and accenting colors when choosing this type of furniture.

Selection rules
In order to correctly select and correctly fit a closet with three doors into the living space, several factors must be taken into account:
- purpose of the cabinet;
- features of the room where it will be located;
- quantity, type of things that should fit in it;
- room dimensions;
- style, colors of other furniture;
- style, colors used to decorate the entire room;
- type of room - children's room, bedroom, etc.
If the location of the closet is a bedroom, then it is necessary that there is enough space for linen and bedding. If there is a living room, then an option with open shelves for storing things characteristic of this room is appropriate. In the hallway you should choose a wardrobe with a large crossbar that can accommodate a lot of outerwear. We also need shelves for hats, shoes, and seasonal accessories like an umbrella.
The balcony in many apartments turns into an accumulation of unnecessary things that are a pity to throw away and have nowhere to store. A narrow, but at the same time spacious wardrobe in a universal color will help organize these things. When choosing a wardrobe for the balcony, you need to make sure that it does not fade in the sun and is reliably protected from moisture.
When choosing any option for a three-door cabinet, you need to pay attention to the material of manufacture, including fittings. All parts must be firmly and securely fixed after assembly. The walls of the furniture should not have cracks, scratches, traces of glue or other defects.
As for the selection depending on the style and colors, furniture sets are a convenient solution. This can be either a set of furniture for the entire room or several items. Along with a three-door wardrobe there are often a chest of drawers, a dressing table, and bedside tables. This option will help you avoid making a mistake with your choice, and the closet in the room will definitely not seem superfluous.
Varieties
Cabinets with three doors, decorated with a mirror, can be of a wide variety of configurations and varieties:
- built-in - installed in a niche or from wall to wall, significantly saving room space and manufacturing materials, since the walls, floor, and ceiling of the room serve as load-bearing elements;
- corner – great for decorating a room with non-standard configurations, they fit wonderfully into the useless corner part of a small room, visually changing its perception;
- radius design models - more often used for larger premises; non-standard shapes and lines of furniture vary depending on customer requirements, which adds originality to the interior;
- cabinet, free-standing sliding wardrobes - have a large capacity.
In addition to linear, angular and radial, a three-leaf wardrobe with a mirror can have a combined design, arbitrary width and height depending on each specific room, different contents, and internal lighting. If you intend to purchase a wardrobe, you find it difficult to choose a facade, feel free to give preference to a storage system with mirrored doors - this is a win-win option for any room.
