English style in the interior of a country house and apartment. 29 photos

It is best if the design of the attic in a country house or in a country house is designed in a single style. This will make the room cozy and presentable. There are many directions that are perfect for this purpose.

Which one should you choose, guided by the specifics of this non-standard room under the very roof? How to make an attic different from others? How to combine wall, floor and ceiling cladding with furniture design? How to choose decorative elements and decorate this room? Making an attic cozy and stylish is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Which style should you choose?

The design of an attic in the loft style, which was originally designed specifically for attics (loft - English attic), can be seen most often in country houses. Also a good solution would be to choose some abstract, relaxing direction. It can be country, Provence, chalet or oriental style. Classics are less often chosen for decorating attics. However, this direction is sometimes used. Of course, all of the above is nothing more than recommendations. If desired, you can choose absolutely any style for the attic.

To make it easier for you to decide, below we will look at some attic design ideas.

Loft style decoration

The industrial loft style should be used to decorate a spacious attic of a brick or concrete building with a fairly high roof. In this case, plywood or plasterboard are best suited for wall cladding. Beams and rafters should be left open. You should not hide various types of communications - water and ventilation pipes, heating pipes.

Communications in a loft-style attic should be left visible

Idea: A very interesting addition to the design of the attic floor in the loft style would be some kind of rarity. For example, an old cast iron radiator or a metal stove.

A loft-style attic should be very well lit. Extensive glazing is one of the accents of this direction. Furniture is most often used for zoning in loft-style rooms. Partitions in such attics can be seen very rarely.

Chalet style attic design

Natural wood and stone are the main materials used in decorating the interior of an attic in the chalet style (chalet - English hut, cottage). This direction is most suitable for decorating the attics of wooden country houses. In this case, it is worth using lining for covering walls, floors and ceilings. As for furniture, leather is ideal.

Note: When decorating such an attic room, special emphasis should be placed on various kinds of stylish decor. This, for example, could be hunting attributes hanging on the walls or a skin on the floor.

When decorating, it would be a very good idea to complement the interior with exposed wooden massive beams and rafters, and also install a fireplace.

Decoration in Provence style

An attic design in the Provence style (from the name of the French province of Provence) is very suitable for both wooden and stone buildings. In this case, it would be best to plaster and whitewash the walls of the room. It’s just great if the furniture is made of artificially aged wood.

Note: In a Provence-style room, everything should be somewhat faded, as if faded under the hot sun of the southern province.

When decorating, you should use light, airy textiles - beautiful curtains on the windows with discreet patterns, pillows and bedspreads with lace, etc. The interior of an attic in the Provence style must be supplemented with a large number of various kinds of trinkets - wicker, porcelain, etc.

Use for country style design

Country style is another very suitable direction for decorating an attic in a country house. In this case, materials such as wood, bronze, old metal, etc. should be used in the interior. Wooden furniture, wicker accessories and a large amount of textiles are the main distinguishing features of a country-style interior. To decorate a skylight, it is best to use light-colored curtains made of natural material.

Note: Blind corners at the bottom of sloping walls in a country-style attic interior should not be covered with plywood or chipboard. It's best if they remain open.

East style

If desired, the attic can be turned into a real oriental tent. This style is most suitable for decorating a room under a hip roof. In this case, it is best to decorate the walls with a sufficiently colorful fabric or decorate them with stained glass inserts. The floor in oriental-style attics is usually covered with parquet boards.

As accessories in such an interior, when decorating, you can use various oriental attributes - hookah, tall narrow vases, etc. It is best to decorate windows not with curtains, but with bamboo blinds. This direction is good for both the bedroom and the living room.

Decoration in a marine style

Some parents are interested in the question of how to decorate a nursery in the attic. In this case, a marine style would be a wonderful solution. The walls of such a room are best covered with plasterboard and painted blue. The ramps can be decorated, for example, with a clock stylized as a compass, a captain’s wheel, a ship’s ladder net, etc.

Idea: You can order furniture for a room in a marine style or make it yourself. A bed or sofa, for example, should be made in the shape of a large boat.

Classic style attic design

When decorating a room, in this case it is best to plaster the walls and paint them in some discreet color, or cover them with wallpaper with a modest pattern. Furniture in a classic attic interior should be stationary, but presentable.

You should definitely hang a luxurious crystal chandelier in such a room and lay down an expensive carpet.

The attic style is chosen based solely on your own taste, as well as the characteristics of the building itself. The main thing is to try to make the room as harmonious as possible:

Attic renovation in loft style

The scope and types of repairs and finishing of the attic depend on the specific project. Below is a sample list of works.

  • Removing previous decorative coatings from walls , floors and ceilings .
  • Equipping the ceiling with wooden or metal beams.
  • Mounting lamps on circuits or wires .
  • Cleaning brickwork . To remove difficult stains (oil, paint, stuck plaster, soot, dust and biodestructors - bacteria, mold, microorganisms) use sandblasting machines. Using this equipment, you can also artificially age a brick surface.

On a note ! Load-bearing walls are usually finished in such a way that they look like the walls of an abandoned factory: with a rough surface and areas of rough brickwork.

  • Plastering, painting or covering walls with clinker tiles .

Liquid and 3D wallpapers, as well as canvases imitating various surfaces, are widely used as decorative coatings.

  • Laying flooring (parquet, laminate, wood flooring, ceramic tiles, artificial stone, marble, self-leveling floors).

To finish the floor, you can use marmoleum - a non-flammable material made from natural ingredients that can withstand heavy loads and maintain the brightness of the color for a long time. Source podolsk-remontkvartir.ru

Attention ! Surfaces of different textures are used to highlight areas of the room.

  • Installation of partitions made of plasterboard , brick , glass blocks and plastic .
  • Installation of radiators in loft style.
  • Equipping the premises with air conditioning and ventilation .
  • Gluing photo wallpaper with a print of old barn boards, with a textured surface imitating old concrete masonry, etc.

Design ideas for the attic floor

When arranging an attic, you should adhere to one simple rule. The decor of this room should not be oppressive. You should not use too much furniture and accessories when decorating the interior. To avoid the feeling of heaviness in this usually not very spacious room, for example, light curtains made of light fabric can help.

Attic decor. Photo of a harmoniously furnished room with cozy light furniture

A very good idea is to decorate the room with indoor flowers, setting up a small winter garden here. For example, in the attic, flowerpots with asparagus and tradescantia hanging on the walls look incredibly interesting. Orchids can add special originality to the interior.

You can grow a whole greenhouse on the attic floor

Idea: An aquarium with tropical fish could be a good addition to such a garden.

Attics look very unusual, the ceilings and walls of which are decorated with some unconventional material. This could be, for example, laminate or parquet.

The attic ceiling can be finished with laminate

By giving free rein to your imagination, you can turn an ordinary dark and unattractive attic into a cozy and beautiful room in which it will be very pleasant to relax, unwind or, conversely, work.

A residential attic is an excellent place to create the coziest corner in the house. The variety of shapes of the attic roof, unusual windows and walls allow you to create a unique room design. There are many options for decorating an attic space, so it is not always easy to decide which interior will best highlight the advantages of your attic.

We tried to illustrate the most suitable styles for decorating a residential attic and find the most interesting ideas for the attic floor.

If you just can’t find the right attic design, photos of the most successful options will help you do this:

Interiors of rooms on the attic floor - photo

As we have already said, a residential attic can be decorated in any way you like. All living quarters can be easily moved there - the main thing is to think through the concept in advance. Here, look!

Attic bedroom design

The good thing about a bedroom in the attic is that it seems to be separated from the rest of the house. This is a real corner for privacy, where you can escape from the hustle and bustle and where guests will definitely not come. But when creating a bedroom interior, you still need to seriously think through the entire insulation pie on the walls and roof.

Living room design in the attic

We are used to the fact that the living room usually goes right next to the hallway, but this is not the only option. If you already have a spacious attic, a recreation and entertainment area will fit perfectly there. And in the evening, guests will be delighted with the view from the window - it’s always very romantic!

Kitchen design in the attic

A kitchen in the attic is attractive because of its privacy, because you can do business without distractions. Odors will not spread throughout the house, and noisy household members will run around the stove. And if you install the tabletop right next to the attic window, you can enjoy the view from above.

Office design in the attic

If you need privacy for work or creativity, a personal account is a real salvation. No conventionally fenced area in the living room or bedroom will ever compare with it. But there is usually nowhere to fit an office in the house, and here a small cozy attic away from the living quarters will come to the rescue.

Attic bathroom design

A bathroom on the attic floor is one of the most non-standard solutions, but that’s what makes it so attractive. Here you will need careful technical preparation, because you need to install water supply and sewerage. In addition, the bathroom is always humid and there are temperature changes, so additional insulation of the under-roof space is needed.

Design of a children's room in the attic

Most children are delighted by the very opportunity to climb higher, right under the roof. In the attic children's room you can create a real fairy-tale world with a princess castle or a pirate ship. If you are making a room for little ones, the main thing is to take care of protecting all sharp corners and sloping ceilings so that the child does not hit himself.

Attic interior design

Options for arranging an attic depend, first of all, on the functional purpose of the room. Some of them will be more appropriate when decorating the interior of a cozy bedroom, others are more suitable for arranging a room for a teenager. Let's consider the most universal styles that allow you to decorate beautiful attics, photos with examples of interiors:

Loft

The name (loft - attic, dovecote) already means that the room is located under the very roof of the building. Loft is a maximum of open space, light and a combination of different textures and materials. A loft-style attic requires high ceilings, large windows or transparent wall elements.

Maximum space is the main feature of the loft style

Loft is also based on combining the rough textures of brick, concrete and wood with the shine of glass or chrome elements. Modern technology will complement the design of the attic. The loft-style attic design is most appropriate if it contains a living room, kitchen or spacious office.

The design of an attic in a classic style involves a variety of variations, but its main features are the use of natural materials in interior design, restrained, calm tones of walls and furniture, and high-quality textiles.

Classic bedroom design

Spacious attics are better suited for decoration in a classic style. In small rooms, bulky finishing elements look out of place.

The spacious two-level attic is decorated with natural wood. Columns and carved railings emphasize the solemnity of the atmosphere

Tip: If the floor or decorations are dark, then walls and furniture in light colors will balance the space.

English style is restraint, harmony and symmetry of lines. As a rule, the interior design of an attic in the English style involves the use of pastel colors in the decoration, as well as plain or finely patterned textiles and furniture upholstery.

Please note: if there is wallpaper on the walls with a pattern, then it is better to choose monochromatic furniture.

Country, chalet and marine style

Country is quite multifaceted, because it involves stylizing the interior to resemble a rustic, provincial way of life, which is also different in different cultures and countries. But the main thing that is inherent in country, regardless of geographical location, is the craving for simplicity, comfort and natural materials, so it is ideal for decorating an attic in a country house.

The country interior is emphasized by carpets with a simple pattern.

Idea: hand-made things are perfect for country music - knitted blankets and rugs, panels and ceramics.

Translated from French, a chalet is a shawl, so a chalet represents comfort, warmth and softness. The interior of a chalet-style attic would be incomplete without a fireplace and massive ceiling beams made of natural wood.

English style in the interior of a nursery and other rooms

The English style in the interior of a children's room usually exploits typical British themes. As a rule, these are the motives for travel (after all, England has always been a maritime power and a major colonialist). When decorating bathrooms in the English style, designers strive to create a very cozy composition. That's why you can often see textiles here. As for the hallways, in their design the English style remains true to its principle of equipping the space with objects as much as possible. Therefore, in the halls we can often see islands for relaxation with armchairs, poufs or soft benches.

English style in the interior of a children's room for twins was manifested in the choice of theme. Models of aircraft and posters depicting parts of aviation equipment bring travel motifs into the room and, at the same time, remind of the exploits of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. The shades of Bondi Beach were chosen as the color basis in the presented example, the dark turquoise depth of which is set off by sky blue textiles.

And the beveled mirrors in the decoration, “supported” by the diagonal layout of the stained glass insert on the ceiling, add a glamorous shine to the composition, characteristic of Art Deco.

England itself is characterized by small but cozy cottages and townhouses. Therefore, the English style can be used both in the interiors of huge country houses and in small apartments. This style trend is very close to Russians, since it also has something of the Soviet Empire style, for which many are still nostalgic. At the same time, the English style always reminds us of our favorite childhood characters from books and films about good old England.

Such different styles

In the field of modern interior design today there are a lot of style trends. When choosing one or another of them, you should first of all pay attention to the size of the room, its purpose, as well as the height of the ceilings. What styles are suitable for decorating an attic?

Provence

Attic design in Provence style is best suited for rooms with enough light. This design looks best in the sun, so those who are the proud owner of a dark attic space should avoid using it.

The interior of the attic in the Provence style is decorated in light pastel colors, which must include two brighter colors - purple and green. For finishing walls, floors and ceilings, it is better to choose natural materials or their successful imitation.

Country

The design of an attic in a country house or in a private house can be done in country style. Its name speaks for itself. The rustic style is expressed in the use of designs stylized to resemble the simple, unpretentious life of peasants. It will look ideal in a wooden house. Furniture and interior details should be chosen simple. It is desirable that they are made of wood. The design of a dormer window in such a room can be done with beautiful curtains made of chintz or other not too dense fabric with floral prints.

Classical

A classic-style attic design is most suitable for decorating a bedroom. It is advisable to use it in a room with high ceilings. Its characteristic features are: the use of natural, soft tones, a strict but elegant design of furniture and interior details, and the use of soft and smooth lines. How to decorate an attic room in this style? To do this, you can choose beige or white wallpaper with a small pattern. Ceilings and parts of slopes can be finished with stucco with gilding. However, if this option seems too flashy to you, you can safely refuse it.

This is interesting: Classic style is also called English. It appeared in Great Britain in the 17th century. The classic came to our country a little later, but spread very quickly. True, only rich people could use such a design. Today, almost everyone can afford to decorate an attic or other room in this style.

Loft

Loft-style attic design can be used for any living space. It is ideal for decorating a bedroom, office or recreation area. It is best suited for rooms with high ceilings. The main characteristic features of the style are a skillful combination of rough and light, airy. Chalet

The good thing about a chalet-style attic interior is that it can be used in a room of any size.

It is worth noting: The chalet style originally came to us from the Alps. There they called the shepherd's hut in a similar way. Representatives of this profession roamed the mountains with their herds and stopped to rest in stone or wooden houses, which had a simple stove, wooden bunks, as well as simple chairs and a table.

This style is most suitable for arranging a wooden attic. In a chalet-style interior, you can use artificial or natural skins, carpets with ornaments, hanging chandeliers in the form of candles, and so on. It is better to choose furniture that is simple and somewhat rough without smooth, elegant lines.

Ethnic

The design of the attic at the dacha can be done in ethnic oriental or Japanese style. Particular attention should be paid to interior details. Paintings, ornaments, vases and figurines play a big role in its design. Finishing materials should be chosen natural.

Additional attic decorative elements

The final step for arranging an attic in the English style is a variety of additional decorative elements, which create a deeper picture of the design. When choosing certain things as decorations, it is worth remembering those style features that we mentioned above. It is important that the parts you purchase fit harmoniously into the overall color and stylistic scheme.

The English style is characterized by an antique grandfather clock made of dark wood, which perfectly decorates the room and sets it a special mood. Besides this, an excellent option would be a fireplace, preferably one that runs on wood. You can find out more about fireplaces in the attic in the corresponding article on our website.

Carpets, rugs, blankets and pillows also play an important role. Strict checkered patterns and avoidance of excessive variegation are exactly what is needed for an English-style attic. As we already mentioned above, the British are a nation that has grown up on the culture of tea drinking, so it would not be superfluous to purchase a beautiful tea set that can be used in everyday life and decorate the room standing behind the glass of the sideboard!

As you can see, the English style for the attic, in an era of a huge variety of modern finds and many trends, remains an island of classic comfort and tranquility, worthy of a truly unhurried and measured lifestyle!

There are a lot of options. You can decide in what style to decorate the attic by familiarizing yourself with all the intricacies of each direction.

Substyles of English architecture

  1. Tudor (XV-XVI centuries) - a classic, familiar from fairy tales. When asked to show a brick house in the old British style, this is the project most often meant. Its features:

  • acute-angled multi-pitched roofs covered with red tiles;
  • large brick chimneys;
  • high gables with small dormers;
  • arched windows with frequent glazing, stone facing of the base.

Projects of houses in the English Tudor style: No. 33-03 (one-story townhouse), No. 51-34 (classic cottage with attic).

  1. Georgian (XVII-XVIII centuries) - the time of penetration of Italian culture, associated with the name of Andrea Palladio (classicism). Character traits:

  • rectangular shape, symmetry;
  • walls without decoration;
  • simple roofs of medium height;
  • doors framed by a portal.

Typical examples in the catalog: No. 58-66 or a more modern interpretation No. 32-11.

  1. Victorian (XVIII-XIX centuries) - a period of mixing architectural trends, expressed in the development of different types of “decoration”. Distinctive features:

  • decoration with facing stone, half-timbered technique or siding;
  • the roofs take on a complex shape and are complemented by towers;
  • distribution of bay windows, verandas, terraces;
  • high pediment above the central entrance.

An example would be a photo of a 2-story house in the English Victorian style No. 34-67, or a project with a terrace (No. 40-56).

What is an attic?

A house with a pitched roof requires a space underneath, which is usually called an attic or attic. There is a line between these concepts that can be used to easily distinguish one room from another. In the attic, the size of the wall from the floor covering to the intersection with the slope should be one and a half meters. Walls much higher indicate the presence of a full second floor, and lower ones indicate that this is an attic.

The attic room must be heated and this requires roof insulation.

In addition, fresh air and lighting are required. This means that the attic must be equipped with windows.

If the house is not initially equipped with an attic in the form it should be (with windows, insulation, heating, windows and lighting), then this is not a reason for frustration. Any attic can be converted into an attic and add usable space to your home.

To do this, it is enough to insulate the roof and make windows.

Of course, the cost of arranging a residential floor will be higher than just equipping a warm attic for storing things. But then you can give free rein to your creative ideas and decorate the attic with your own hands, choosing a style to your liking, depending on what functions the attic will perform.

Browse popular styles

You can get lost in the variety of existing styles. After construction work in the attic space, the most exciting moment comes: choosing a style and thinking through important and minor details in the design of the space. Which style do you prefer - loft or chalet, Provence or English? Or maybe combine two in one or, in general, invent your own? You should have a good understanding of how one style differs from another before you start purchasing building materials and decorative elements.

Loft

Concrete or brick walls, not treated in any way, windows without curtains, unpainted pipes and radiators - all these are distinctive features of the style. It implies high ceilings, so the creation of two levels is encouraged here. No doors limiting the space. There can be sleeping places, a kitchen, and a living room. But all this is designed in the form of zones; there are no partitions.

Metal racks, beams, and open supporting structures are appropriate here. Glass and plastic can coexist with a plank floor and a brick wall.

It must be remembered: the presence of many large windows is one of the main distinguishing characteristics of the direction. The color range is limited to cool tones and black and white combinations.

Provence

A sunny day, the smell of herbs, bouquets of wild flowers - this is what this name is associated with. The style is simple in design and involves the use of simple rustic furniture, shabby in places, curtains and bedspreads in greenish and bluish tones, as if slightly faded.

Warm colors, floral patterns, laconicism, paintings and photographs in wooden frames are what characterize this style. The chandelier and lamps should be light and elegant.

Scandinavian

This style is easily recognizable by its muted tones and rich lighting. This creates a feeling of unlimited space. It is preferable to make the floor using parquet boards; usually the shade is chosen darker than the color of the walls.

The main place here is occupied by furniture.

It should be quite simple, but at the same time stylish. Tables made of light material, chairs with metal elements, sofas made of light leather. There should be little furniture. Unusual lamps, paintings with abstract images, and musical instruments are appropriate in this style.

Chalet

Natural materials are inherent in this style, so the design uses wooden structures, stone, ceramic tiles, and decorative plaster. The floors are laid from tiles imitating stone or wide boards. Bright colors are inappropriate here. An interesting design detail can be a chandelier and a floor lamp of an unusual shape.

Country

Simple and natural, it is popular today. Here the emphasis is on coziness and comfort.

The optimal wall decoration is floral paper wallpaper.

The floors are made of wood, but not parquet or laminate. Ceilings are usually white. Furniture should be simple and discreet. Curtains with a cheerful polka dot or checkered pattern will perfectly decorate windows whose frames should be wooden, but not plastic.

Decorative elements such as table lamps with lampshades, wooden crafts, candlesticks, tablecloths and napkins decorated with embroidery are well suited. Coziness will be created by ceramic dishes, wicker baskets, and live bouquets placed on the shelves.

Romanesque

Massiveness and power are the main things in this style. Semicircular or elongated windows and doors of the same shape. The walls are finished with Venetian plaster in brown or beige. Decorations in the form of painting using religious motifs are possible.

Frescoes and stained glass also complement the very gloomy room.

The floors are decorated with marble, mosaics and large patterned tiles.

European

It is not difficult to adhere to this style if you understand one main rule: there must be a center, that is, something on which the emphasis is placed. If, for example, the ceiling is made on several levels, using different textures, beautiful lamps and a chandelier, then the floor should be as neutral as possible.

Distinctive features are: free space, living room and kitchen are usually separated by a bar counter.

It’s good if there is a lot of lighting and everything is thought out to the smallest detail.

But the color scheme should include three main shades, sometimes you can add a fourth, but not out of the general palette.

Modern

The name speaks for itself. And in this case, you can safely fantasize. The most important thing is that it all looks harmonious and does not create a feeling of clutter and chaos. It is even permissible to mix two or three styles that are similar in basic characteristics. It is in this case that modern materials are used.

Walls, floors and ceilings can be decorated using a variety of material textures, and they can be combined.

And the colors can be both bright and muted. The main thing is that they are combined with each other.

English

The main focus is the furniture. It is she who creates the necessary atmosphere of severity, restraint, and at the same time relaxing comfort. Oak, ash and walnut are welcome. It is from these species that tables, cabinets, chests of drawers and chairs should be made. This style is characterized by dark tones, such as burgundy and brown or dark green and blue.

Properly selected decorative elements will complement the overall picture.

By the way, there will be a grandfather clock, and there must be a fireplace. All this will create a feeling of home, where the whole family gathers in the evening.
