Making a garland

First of all, prepare lots and lots of paper circles for work. I cut my circles using a scrapbooking punch (in our opinion, a hole punch). But you can also find more fancy gadgets for these purposes, of which there are many on the Internet. I chose several shades of pink to create a romantic look. I also added some gold medallions, which provide an interesting contrast and make the decoration more interesting.

Tender of circles

First, I laid all my circles one by one in a row in the order in which I saw them, and my goal was to achieve an ombre effect. Then I started sewing.

The color of the circles can be chosen to match the style of the holiday

Sew down the center of your first circle, then take the next circle, placing it in front of the presser foot and sew immediately after the first. Continue until you have a chain of circles of the desired length. I used a fine stitch on my sewing machine.

Follow safety precautions

Make as many rows for the round garland as you need. To decorate my window, I needed about 15 sheets of double-sided thick colored paper measuring 20x30 cm. I installed the finished product on regular double-sided adhesive tape, adding a couple of strings of decorative light bulbs for a festive mood, which were held on a nail, and placed the battery packs right there - at the top of the window sill , also using double-sided tape.

Finished interesting work for decoration

Consumables
  • double-sided thick paper in several colors;
  • metallic paper;
  • ponch with a diameter of 5 cm;
  • a thread
  • sewing machine
  • double sided tape;
  • decorative light bulbs.

Once you hang it all up, all you have to do is enjoy it, since paper itself is inherently festive. Place it near other holiday decorations, such as a Christmas tree, for a festive touch.

A wonderful combination next to the New Year's beauty

You will also need a garland for birthday parties. If you have children, they will appreciate this approach and be grateful to you.

Useful for any occasion

Light elements add a special atmosphere that is typical for the winter holidays. I really love everything shiny, glowing and shimmering, especially during the holidays.

Golden color for glitter lovers

Some may find the round option boring, or you may not have all the tools at hand. Therefore, I have prepared for you several more ways to decorate your home using paper garlands. So let's get started.

Fabric garlands

Who said that garlands can only be made from paper? All kinds of fabrics are also great for this role. Do not throw away scraps and scraps left over from other projects. They are the ones who will go into operation.

#1 Fabric garland for the New Year: decorating LED lanterns

#2 New Year's garland made of scraps: decorating the house with the children

Fabric garlands can be made similar to paper garlands. But the advantage of using fabric as a material is that by cutting out ordinary circles, you can already get a beautiful garland, which is unlikely to happen with paper. It is enough to choose the most variegated and brightest scraps, possibly from different materials, and sew them to a common rope. If desired, give it any shape: circles, triangles, Christmas trees. You can add fabric cutouts with buttons, beads, and more. Fabrics are a little heavier than paper, so a thin thread may not work. It is better to use a tighter fishing line or rope.

#3 Fabric garland for the New Year: do it yourself

A garland with fabric flowers will look very appropriate at a New Year's party. Templates for creating flowers are very diverse. For example, the simplest technique in terms of execution would be flowers made from ribbons. It is necessary to fold the tape like an accordion, rolling it in a circle. There are also flowers with separate fabric petals. All this will create a very delicate and unique garland. It is better to take thin fabrics for flowers, and you can place them on a thread at different lengths, this will add originality.

#4 Christmas garland in the shape of flags made of fabric: do it yourself

Method 1

Geometric

Take colored paper. You will need about 12 sheets of 15/15 cm. Double-sided origami paper is perfect for this.

Thick colored paper

Fold each sheet into a triangle. Start by folding the sheet in half. Then fold the triangle in half to make an even smaller triangle.

Fold it several times

Consider making small cuts along the edges to make your garland more interesting. Do not make any cuts along the folded edges.

We do not make cuts completely

Staple the two triangles together in the middle. Do the same for the remaining triangles so that you have six triangle shapes held together.

Cut out the required amount

Pin the two triangle shapes together at the corners. Take two triangles and overlap the dots 1/2 inch (1.27 cm). Sew the corners down.

We fasten all the circles together

Pin the molds together to hold them in place. If you don't want the staples to show, you can only staple the inner layers and leave the top layers free.

We stretch the resulting garland

To make a garland from individual triangles, connect the parts together by the edges.

Paper garland is ready

When finished, secure the garland to the wall using thumbtacks.

Felt garlands

Felt – this fabric is now very popular for making crafts. Felt garlands are no exception. The fabric is very easy to use, it is soft and does not wrinkle, it lends itself well to stitching by machine and by hand.

The easiest option for a felt garland to make would be circles of different shapes. Of course, a garland made of felt of different colors will look more beautiful. Different circles can simply be strung on a common rope. But it will look much more interesting if you layer mugs of different shapes and colors one to one. This will add some flair. The circles need to be sewn to each other.

#2 Felt garland: circles of different shapes

Confetti garland. To make such a garland you need multi-colored felt in the shape of squares and rectangles of different sizes. They need to be sewn to one rope at a distance of approximately 1-2 cm from each other. The result will be the effect of scattered colorful confetti. Will decorate any room.

Intertwined felt garland. You need to make 2 strips of felt 1-2 meters long (depending on the size of the room you want to decorate) and 1 cm wide. Then you need to sew the second one to the beginning of one of the strips. The second felt tape needs to be wrapped around the first, which remains motionless. This is a ready-made garland that does not need a common rope on which to string it. It looks quite unusual.

#3 Simple DIY felt garland: quick and easy

Garland with fringe

For creativity, we only need a roll of corrugated paper, a sewing machine and scissors.

Operating procedure:

  1. Cut the whole roll into several small rolls. Roll them out and get long ribbons.
  2. We fold the ribbons in several layers, sew them in the middle and bend them in half. We trim the edges of the ribbons using curly scissors.
