Hello, dear friends!
Today we will share with you a lot of interesting ideas for decorating the local area in the garden. And first of all, we will, of course, talk about simple budget solutions using affordable, and sometimes completely waste, materials that can be found in any country house.
How can you decorate your yard with your own hands? It’s easy to be creative, and we’ll help you with examples for inspiration!
Interesting DIY crafts from scrap materials
Decorating the entrance area of a private house and the yard itself is a creative and extremely exciting task. Depending on the area of the plot, the farmstead itself can be divided into several functional zones.
In the backyard it is appropriate to organize a cozy relaxation area with a barbecue for receiving guests, a cozy patio or a children's playground. The front part of the house with the adjacent territory offers a lot of options, and you can decorate it to your own taste on the most modest budget using inexpensive materials at hand.
For example, take garden paths, the main criterion of which is not only their functionality. The aesthetic side of the issue also plays an important role here.
Paved with wild stones and concreted using ready-made forms for concrete paths, mosaic, wooden or decorated with river pebbles - whatever design method you choose, this is your personal contribution to the arrangement of your own possessions.
So, let’s begin our photo excursion dedicated to the man-made design of the yard on the territory entrusted to us.
Beauty also needs to be planned!
What is a garden yard? This is an area that is adjacent to a private house and becomes the object of attention not only of its owners, but also of neighbors and guests. It's safe to say that yards can tell a lot about their owners.
Before you start planning your landscaping, try to answer one simple question: what exactly do I mean by “beautiful yard”? For some it’s a trimmed lawn and a sea of flowers, while for others it’s a large swimming pool and chic lighting. Much depends on what kind of lifestyle you lead, whether you have pets and small children, and how often you invite friends over for barbecues.
Already at the initial planning stage, you can take into account many important nuances, which will allow you to save money, eliminate the purchase of unnecessary things, and reduce the time that might be required for reconstruction and remodeling.
The next stage of planning: the area of the territory. If you don’t know it, be sure to clarify it or take simple measurements. For example, arranging a compact yard will be problematic, especially if you want to install a large gazebo. But on a large plot, the flight of imagination is limited solely by your financial capabilities, type of soil, and landscape features.
The design of a small private yard does impose its limitations. Therefore, you need to immediately set priorities and clearly understand for yourself which elements your yard simply cannot exist without, and which ones are not of particular importance. When the area is reduced to a few square meters, it is difficult to place on them a sandbox, a place for barbecue, a flower bed and at least a small gazebo.
When the plan is drawn up and the dimensions of the territory are known, the arrangement involves marking out all objects. Do this with maximum accuracy, noting gazebos, ponds, rock gardens that already exist or will only be built. It is very convenient to mark when the territory is divided into squares. On each of them you should choose one decorative element or structure. They will be key. This will allow you to evenly distribute the elements, making the decoration of the yard harmonious and balanced.
We almost forgot - be sure to check the condition of the territory before starting construction.
Imagine the situation: you tore up the floor of the yard, were about to lay the foundation, but suddenly found out that underground water runs almost to the very surface. Also at this stage, you need to take care of laying the necessary communications, think about how exactly the plants will be watered, and whether fountains and waterfalls will be built.
Tires: 15 ideas for a country courtyard
If you think that old tires are only suitable for creating flower beds and flowerpots, then this is not so. And we’ll start, perhaps, with garden furniture.
The universal shape of tires and their elastic material are excellent for creating improvised upholstered furniture. Comfortable stools, bar stools and sofas, original armchairs and cozy poufs are perfect for seasonal use in the courtyard of a private home.
Modular rubber kits are easy to assemble and dismantle, and acquiring a sufficient number of seats in case guests arrive is not at all difficult. Just create a small strategic supply of tires and store it in the attic.
Garage style is for connoisseurs of functional minimalism, giving a lot of opportunities to unleash creative potential!
In addition to furniture fantasies, it also inspires the implementation of numerous ideas for the playground. For example, a swing, which the minor population at the summer cottage will surely enjoy.
From paths to flower beds
Beautiful paths in the garden are an integral attribute of any design. Try laying them out with beautiful pebbles - and moving around the area will be much more comfortable. Each path performs a zoning function and is an important decorative element. The interior of the house does not involve the construction of separate paths, but the area outside is a completely different matter.

How to make paths not only comfortable, but also attractive in appearance? To do this, you can lay them out of flat and at the same time large stones, powerful concrete slabs and gravel, use clinker-type bricks, and fence them with low borders. Combine different types and materials to achieve the desired functionality and turn a nondescript path into a real work of art.
We all studied geometry at school, but few people thought about where exactly the knowledge gained could be useful. Congratulations - you have just found such a sphere. It is difficult to imagine a high-quality design of the courtyard of a private house with photos and drawings if you decide to do without knowledge of geometry.
Supporters of smooth lines draw oval flower beds and winding paths on the plan; others prefer squares and rectangles, because they love clarity and rigor in everything. The lawn must be flat, each bush is trimmed “to a line” in the literal sense of the word. However, only a true home owner knows how calming plants are, how they bring balance to the environment and give a wonderful mood.
Now let's talk about how to decorate the area with flowers. Plan your planting so that after some flowers bloom, the buds of others bloom. This way, your floral carpet will always smell like all the colors of the rainbow.
In addition to soil, plants are placed in special garden tubs and pots. Where the terrain of the site is hilly and uneven, tedious leveling of slopes and arrangement of embankments can be replaced by the construction of steps. They are ready to become a real focal point and attract everyone's attention.
Pallets: how to assemble garden furniture quickly and inexpensively
In our country blog, we have already published a separate post dedicated to a very unusual area of application for construction pallets. Here you can enjoy bright, non-standard solutions and an inspiring scope of design ideas. Would you like to adopt it? Yes, to your health!
Needless to say, wooden pallets are a convenient, inexpensive and practical material! With its help, you can quickly and easily assemble any modular set of garden furniture, which can be easily transformed and installed in the right place in a matter of minutes. An excellent choice for decorating a yard and organizing a comfortable recreation area at minimal cost.
Wooden boxes – looking for a use!
It would seem, what can ordinary wooden boxes be good for, except for storing apples and potatoes? This is the amateurish view of a city dweller, but not our resourceful and jack-of-all-trades brother-dacha resident!
If you step aside from the utilitarian purpose of these ordinary structures and apply a little imagination, you can build a lot of things from them. For example, here are some cute crafts that you won’t be embarrassed to use to decorate your garden and yard.
Plastic bottles.
Many drinks are sold in plastic bottles, they have different sizes. Don't rush to throw plastic bottles in the trash. You can decorate your yard with them. How? For example, make them:
– funny figures; Plastic bottles can be painted and turned into beautiful animals: cats, dogs, piglets, frogs, elephants, or you can make flowers, palm trees, or make a lake out of them.

Glass and plastic bottles: collecting empty containers!
This more than affordable material is an absolute champion for its use in summer cottages. With some ingenuity, empty plastic containers can be used not only for growing seedlings and drip irrigation devices, but also for decorative purposes.
Glass bottles can be used to decorate borders of flower beds, flower beds and garden paths. Or this airy improvised screen demarcating the recreation area in the courtyard of the house.
And if you work a little and acquire the skills to work with glass, you will get wonderful lamps, bird feeders and original hanging vessels for growing flowers.
Cinder blocks: mobile and laconic solutions
A few extra cinder blocks left over from building your garage? Yes, it's just luck! Take a look at the photo, there is a reason to build a light garden bench or a comfortable ottoman for a country veranda. All you need are a few stones and wooden beams for sitting, and foam mats and soft pillows will help soften the hard surface.
How to create a spectacular flower arrangement out of the blue? Elementary! Located near a fence in the yard or a free-standing structure made of cinder blocks is an excellent solution for those who prefer strict laconicism in the design of the surrounding space.

Gabions in country decorations - aesthetics and style
We won’t talk for long about the decorative role of gabions in modern landscape design - I wrote a separate article about this, and in general there is more than enough information on this matter on the Internet.
The use of these mesh structures filled with a wide variety of materials - pebbles, rubble stone, crushed stone and even glass bottles allows you to create a lot of useful and decorative structures in your garden plot.
Gabions are used for the quick construction of fences and partitions, design of ponds, flower beds and various architectural elements. In the courtyard of the house, using this design, you can create a recreation area with a barbecue stove or a cozy place for relaxation with a small pond or fountain.
Flower beds and flower beds
In landscape design, free flower beds represent a mass planting of a variety of plants to suit your taste, without any borders. However, they are definitely needed for a neat appearance. Enclose with edges made of plastic, wood, stones, or fill the edge with fine gravel.
It is important to properly organize the placement of flower beds and planting of perennial plants
You can decorate your yard with your own hands using the following types of flower beds.
- Flower garden borders are placed along paths, walls, and fences. Usually low-growing flowers are used, one or two types that do not stand out too much (lavender, violets, navel, lupine).
- Mixed border (mixborder) - differs from the border in its planting pattern. Flowers are planted singly, in groups of different heights, in colored spots. Moreover, plants are chosen with different flowering periods, providing diversity from spring to autumn.
- Rabatka is a rectangular ridge along paths, gazebos, and fences. The planting is lined with flowers of different heights: the near part is made up of low plants, and the distant ones are higher. In a symmetrical version, tall plants are in the middle, low along the edge.
- Front garden is a strip of land separating a house from the road. Choose bushes and perennials for this place, the main thing is that it looks equally good both from the road and from the window. Fragrant lilac, jasmine, tea rose will fill the house with aromas, protecting it from dust or heat.
The design of the area being developed should be in harmony with the house itself
Flower beds can also be made in the form of various geometric shapes. Create waves of multi-colored tulips in the spring in the courtyard of a private house, or a fluttering colorful butterfly of marigolds, nasturtiums, and asters.
Flowerbeds have a shape and a frame. Their appearance is limited only by your imagination. Any container is suitable for a flower bed that will decorate the yard. All that remains is to paint and fill with soil. They use old tires painted in different colors, a watering can with holes lying around for many years, baskets, furniture, plastic products, even dishes.
Plan planting flowers so that the flowering of some is followed by the flowering of other varieties
In the depths of the courtyard of a private house you can create a small rock garden. This trend came to us from Japan. Choose stones in shape and color that are most in harmony with the overall composition. They create a long-lasting environment for your plants. Place them on the site as they would look in nature, or lay them out according to the chosen pattern.
If the size of the plot allows, you can place a small oriental-style rock garden in a secluded corner.
Interior items and garden utensils in floral arrangements
A shady landscaped garden and a rustic-style house mean appropriate decoration. Cute and original floral arrangements using old baguette frames, a wooden stepladder and even out-of-print chairs will organically fit into the given theme.
An old wooden barrel as a planter, a birdcage with textured succulents planted in it, or improvised hanging structures can transform your yard in the most unexpected way.
Furniture and decorations for coziness and comfort
When deciding how to decorate your yard, you should think about decorating functional elements. A bench in a rustic style will be complemented by a table made from a cut of wood, mounted on a piece of log. An imitation of a well with a built-in barbecue will be decorated with small sculptures.
Note! When choosing decor from a huge variety of garden sculptures, it is important to adhere to a given style. Fairy-tale characters or animals are appropriate for a dacha. A patio in a classic style will be enlivened by an antique figurine.
Garden furniture in our dachas is often made from scrap materials.
When funds allow, the courtyard of a house in the village is decorated with natural stone. Flagstone is laid on the site, used for an alpine slide, a dry stream. A light arc bridge next to decorative shrubs will become a design accent.
Decorative stones for landscape design are considered a fashionable detail.
The gazebo can be replaced by a series of openwork arches entwined with hops or decorative trellises or a small canopy. The main thing is to arrange the furniture wisely so that it does not interfere with movement. It is not necessary to purchase ready-made sets of garden furniture. Upcycling and recycling are in fashion - old things are given a second life. The varnish layer is removed from old home furniture and treated with modern hydrophobic agents. Soft upholstery is replaced with wood or nylon cord weaving. The legs are reinforced with crossed planks, and the table is decorated in the same way.
Do-it-yourself garden furniture is an excellent alternative for those who are not eager to part with a tidy sum.
A good addition would be textiles: small blankets and pillows that are brought into the house in case of rain. Rough hemp turns into comfortable poufs, rough benches into banquettes.
A wicker hammock always looks colorful. It’s easy to find a place for it in the yard. The object of the interior will be a swing made in a rustic style. Strong and safe.
A hammock is a hanging bed for relaxation that has won the hearts of nature lovers.
Just tough!
And a few more touches to the portrait of your country house. Don’t rush to scrap your leaky tin troughs, watering cans, basins and buckets; they will still serve you well!
With a little creative effort, a retro fountain like this or an unusual accent can appear in your courtyard, drawing attention to the flower bed laid out in the front garden.
Old trees: don’t rush to cut them for firewood!
It doesn't always make sense to get rid of an old tree on your property. Give it a second chance, and it can become quite an animated character in your garden decoration!
Look, even the most ordinary stump surrounded by bright, frivolous petunias seems to take on a new life!
Guests are traveling: festive illumination
And finally, a few more bright ideas for decorating the yard in case of a celebration - for a wedding or birthday. After all, the feeling of a holiday is not only a generously laid table in the company of a pleasant company of friends and relatives, but also the organization of a cozy, inviting atmosphere, which is accompanied by well-chosen lighting.
Electric garlands, candles in glass jars suspended above the table, simple wire structures with lighting - all this can decorate your yard for entertaining. And make an impression, of course.
We wish you creative inspiration and successful design experiments! Feel free to share your successes with us, and we will be happy to talk about them on the pages of our country blog.
