Fashion is changing not only in clothing, furniture design is also undergoing major changes, it is becoming more ergonomic. It is difficult to imagine the interior of a modern apartment without storage systems. Most often, a mirrored sliding wardrobe is used for these purposes, which is a practical and elegant element of the interior.

Advantages and disadvantages

The modern version of the compartment design has a number of advantages:

  • The main feature is significant space savings. Since swing doors require a certain amount of space to open freely, precious centimeters turn into an unusable area;
  • large capacity due to maximum use of volume: the use of an internal cabinet for linen or jewelry, as well as additional hangers and shelves. A retractable mirror in a wardrobe is an interesting way to install the necessary accessory;
  • versatility - a model of this configuration is appropriate in any interior. The most popular classic option is a double-leaf wardrobe;
  • possibility of individual filling. If desired, you can place the required number of shelves, drawers and additional niches inside;
  • functionality - even a small cabinet can solve several problems at once. You can store everything you need in it: from clothes, cosmetics to books and household appliances;
  • a wide variety of designs: texture, color design, use of decorative details (engraving, various contrasting combinations). The most spectacular option are sliding wardrobes with photo printing;
  • reliability of the design - if you follow the basic rules of care, even a four-door coupe will last as long as possible.

Along with the advantages, such models have disadvantages. These include:

  • the likelihood of structural deformations due to the use of aluminum profiles;
  • rapid wear of the sliding system;
  • poor lighting - even bright spotlights cannot illuminate the entire space of the mirror version if it is located in the hallway or in a darkened corner;
  • the need for periodic maintenance. Without proper care of the guides, the sliding system may fail.

Types by shape

The design of modern furniture sometimes surprises with its originality. Corner wardrobes are no exception, which means that the variety of their shapes and designs will allow everyone to choose an option to their liking. The main ones include:

1 Triangular . These are classic models that arose at the very beginning of the history of corner furniture layout. Their main advantage is the simplicity of the layout and design, which affects the price - usually the cost of such models is the lowest. Among the disadvantages is cumbersomeness, because triangular wardrobes “take away” part of the bedroom area.

Economical storage option

2 Trapezoidal . There can be many trapezoid shapes and cabinets made in this format too - their sides can be completely different sizes. Compared to triangular ones, the design of trapezoidal corner wardrobes looks more complex and sophisticated.

Sophistication in the interior

3 L-shaped . Models of this shape are much more spacious than all others. Despite this, they look neat and not bulky. If you compare a triangular and an L-shaped corner wardrobe, the latter can accommodate more things, but it will take up no more space.

The L-shaped model takes up little space and has good capacity

4 Pentagonal . These models are much more expensive than the previous ones, but despite this, they are in great demand. Firstly, they are distinguished by their spaciousness, and, secondly, they look rich and will be a wonderful addition to the design of any interior.

More expensive and elegant option

5 Radius . Corner wardrobes are the most difficult to make and expensive, so they are rare. In a bedroom with a regular, classic design and set of furniture, such models will look ridiculous. They will fit only into a luxurious interior, for example, made in the Empire or Art Deco style; they are usually not available in stores and are made to order.

Luxury in the interior

Advice A significant role in choosing the shape of a wardrobe for a bedroom is played by personal tastes and views, which must be taken into account so that later, when entering the room, you can enjoy its appearance.

Facade decoration

When choosing a facade design for a sliding wardrobe with mirrored doors, two main parameters must be taken into account:

  • specifics of the purpose of the room;
  • dimensions of the product plus its design.

For their manufacture, various materials are used in combination with a mirror:

  • chipboard;
  • MDF;
  • bamboo;
  • colored glass;
  • eco leather;
  • photo printing.

All types of mirror doors can be equipped with inserts of other materials:

  • colored glass for facades is a transparent surface, on the back side of which a film is glued, acting as anti-fragmentation protection;
  • bamboo is varnished sections of the plant, painted in pastel colors. There are also rattan inserts;
  • eco-leather is created by embossing on a film with a fabric base. Sliding wardrobes with leather are not so common, but they always look original and stylish;
  • Photo printing is created by printing on transparent glass. A white film is glued onto the resulting surface, filling the gaps in the design.

The color schemes of the facades are selected depending on the purpose of the room:

  • for a children's room, a bright façade with photo printing will be organic;
  • in the living room, the selection of door material for cabinets depends entirely on the overall interior: bamboo is appropriate in an ethnic style. It goes well with frosted glass;
  • sliding wardrobes with leather are perfect for modern classic design and rooms in the Art Nouveau style;
  • photo printing - for romantic;
  • light shades and decorative patterns - for coupes in Provence style.

Mirror facades for sliding wardrobes can be made in various versions.

Depending on the size of the model, they may differ in the number of doors and the location of mirrors or glass:

  • A two-door coupe is usually chosen for a small room or with limited free space;
  • The spacious room includes a 4-door coupe with a mirror. The closet here will look organic;
  • In the middle between two mirrors you can place 2 smooth panels. Or make similar doors with a personalized engraving on them.

How to choose the right one: room type

A mirror cabinet is serious and expensive, so you need to approach the choice of a suitable model as carefully as possible.

Firstly, the size and decoration of the mirror depend on the functionality of the room. Thus, for corridors and living rooms, surfaces of maximum length and width are used, while a minimum of foreign objects (plastic, MDF, chipboard, wood) remains on the facade of the wardrobe.

In bedrooms, it is recommended to give preference to mirror mosaics, illuminated by special wall sconces or a central ceiling lampshade.

In bathrooms and hallways, it is better to install compact racks or shelves with a mirror half or a quarter of the wall high, and for kitchens and children's rooms, reflective elements are located on the back walls of furniture or as a small applique.

Where is the best location?

When selecting a door for a sliding wardrobe with a mirror, it is necessary to take into account its compatibility with other interior elements in color and texture. If the cabinet does not match the texture too well, you can apply a design on the mirror; engraving would also be appropriate. Taking into account the location of the product, there are some nuances of its choice that you should familiarize yourself with in advance.

In the living room

In the living room, a wardrobe with a mirror will serve as a wall, making it seem more spacious. At the same time, behind the improvised panel you can place not only a wardrobe, but also a TV area or a compact office. In terms of design, you can use a beveled mirror, bronze decoration, black frames, or combined decors.

If the closet isn't built-in, it can feel like a bulky mess. However, if you place it according to the geometry of the room, it will become an organic element of the interior. The most optimal shape is considered to be a trapezoid.

Double-door coupes usually take up little space, but their location should also be thoughtful. If you want to visually hide the cabinet, it can be made without decorative elements. Making a coupe without mirrors is considered cheaper. But if you wish, you can decorate the facade yourself.

In the bedroom

For the bedroom, sliding wardrobes with mirror + bronze and sliding wardrobes with photo printing are most often used. Typically, full-wall cabinets allow you to place everything you need, while creating a cozy effect due to a unique façade. The following options are considered optimal:

  • coupe with frosted glass;
  • photo cabinet.

The cabinet mirror can also be engraved upon request.

In the hall

In the hallway they look most organic:

  • wenge wardrobe with mirror;
  • sliding wardrobes with mirror panels;
  • graphite coating on facades;
  • patterns with rhombuses and floral patterns.

If the space allows you to place a large cabinet, standard engraving or photo printing is suitable as a finish.

Glass design options

Nowadays you don’t always see a cabinet with a solid mirror surface, since most often this element is subject to numerous options for decoration and decoration.

The sandblasting pattern on the mirror is a matte image applied to the surface using a special technology. This pattern does not wear off, does not fade, and is not very noticeable. The opposite situation is also possible: the entire mirror is coated using sandblasting technology with a matte tone, leaving a mirror ornament. The engraving does not interfere with the view at all.

In addition to sandblasting, stained glass, color tinting, photo printing, and laser engraving are widely used. The latter is distinguished by brightness, intensity and color saturation, clear thin lines and the most expensive price.

Often matte, colored sections alternate with pure reflective ones, creating a mosaic effect. It is also possible to frame the edges of the mirror and use lighting. The variety of possible images on the cabinet mirror can be found in the photographs provided.

Variety of shapes

Regardless of whether you need a 2-door sliding wardrobe with a mirror or a sliding wardrobe without mirrors, you should consider the basic forms of the design. At the moment, the production of both case structures and built-in options is developed:

  • the first group is considered a classic. These cabinets can be moved, transported to another room;
  • The second option is good because it does not take up much space and allows you to make the most efficient use of the space in the room.

Models may vary in body shape:

  • straight lines are classic samples for which you can choose any shade: black, white, walnut and other natural combinations;
  • corner - their main feature is minimizing the use of space;
  • radius - they are distinguished by a more complex type of door. In turn, radius models can be convex, concave or wavy. They look very attractive and original. There are also combined models that combine several facade shapes at once. Typically, such products are very bulky and are suitable only for spacious rooms;
  • The trapezoidal version is a variation of the angular one. It has a convenient location and holds a lot of things. You can also choose a five-wall model.

Kinds

There are several types of wardrobes:

  1. The built-in wardrobe is mounted between the walls or placed in a niche. This structure has no floor and roof.
  2. The case version may have different dimensions, the number of doors also varies. Such models are placed near the wall.

Types of sliding doors for wardrobes, standard dimensions
The shape of the wardrobe can be angular or linear. The first option is placed exclusively in the corner, which allows for more efficient use of the room area. Such structures are made in the form of a triangle with two doors; L-shaped models are popular (often with a large number of doors). There is also a trapezoidal cabinet, which is more spacious.

The linear model is located in a straight line along the wall. Such furniture can be equipped with a different number of doors. Designers still advise placing a moderate number of mirrors. It is better to combine such surfaces with inserts made of leather, bamboo, frosted glass, and photo printing. Otherwise, the room may create an uncomfortable atmosphere.

Selection rules

When choosing, the following dimensions are important:

  • height - it depends on the height of the ceiling. On average, it varies from 2.6 m to 3.1 m;
  • product width - the minimum size is considered to be 1.20 meters. Exactly as much is needed to equip a sliding door system;
  • depth, which is selected taking into account the wishes of the owners;
  • the thickness of the mirror - the reliability and safety of the non-standard facade will depend on it.

General rules for choosing mirror cabinets

Types of door opening mechanisms

When choosing a cabinet with a mirror, do not forget about the features of door opening systems. They are classified according to the type of valve movement:

  • Swing. Known since Soviet times, when there was simply nothing else. It is inconvenient to open because it requires a lot of space outside. The doors are attached with ordinary furniture hinges, and cannot always withstand the weight of the doors. In the classic form, reflectors were attached inside. Another disadvantage to this option;
  • Sliding. Due to the fact that the doors do not overlap each other closely (a gap is always provided), you can mirror the facade completely or partially from the front side without any extra thought. There is, of course, a risk that the door will fall off the rails and your jewelry will break. But this already depends on the correct operation of coupe-type systems and your accuracy. Immediately discard systems with a top stop (mounted and suspended). Increased weight will cause the sashes to fall more frequently and cause additional deformation;
  • Foldable. A movable screen made of slats fastened into a single sheet allows for folding to the side according to the accordion principle. You shouldn't get too carried away with mirrors. Typically, such fasteners are quite sensitive to kinks and weight. The reflectors can be made overhead and narrower than the sash. Choose the thinnest options. They will not interfere with the opening process.

Cabinet designs and their features

Not the last criterion for the final choice is the type of cabinet itself:

  • Corpus. It has its own functional frame consisting of a frame, a back wall and a facade system. When installed, it is simply placed along the wall or instead of it (a good option for studios). This reliable and durable furniture allows you to decorate yourself with mirrors according to any principle (inside, outside). Since it is manufactured in advance, and you see the option already planned for you, the reflectors are usually already included. Any DIY changes will cost you some cash;
  • Built-in. In such cabinets, the frame is completely absent (this role is played by the walls), or is replaced with false strips. The main element is the façade, which can be mirrored from floor to ceiling. However, this does not prevent you from placing a dressing table, mirror and much more inside. After all, furniture of this type is always made according to the personal wishes of the customer. You can also choose what type of material you need and how best to decorate it.

<

>

Another important point is the shape of the cabinet. For the rectangular option, it is better to choose cuts with regular geometric shapes. This will help avoid style differences. Or stick to elongated oval shapes. The mirror may also have slightly rounded corners (an elongated polyhedron). Large dimensions allow you to decorate all or part of the doors with reflectors. Whereas it is better not to visually overload small corner ones. Stop at the internal narrow version.

Features of care

When purchasing a compartment with a pattern or wardrobes with a mirror panel, you need to understand that such samples require painstaking care. It is important to ensure regular care of various elements of the product:

  • maintaining the mobility and performance of the sliding system directly depends on the timely cleaning of the rollers and guides from dust. At the same time, it is important not to make sudden movements when opening doors;
  • a product with drawers requires special operation: the lifting mechanism does not tolerate exceeding the intended load;
  • The lighting system requires additional attention. The best option for providing lighting is LEDs. To maintain their functionality, it is enough to prevent exposure of electrical elements to moisture and turn off the electricity before carrying out preventive manipulations (replacing light bulbs, wiping off dust);
  • cleaning facade surfaces. When caring for furniture, the question often arises of how to clean a mirror so that it retains its shine. You can use ready-made household products. If they cause allergic reactions, it is worth using effective folk methods: wiping the surface with half an onion (potatoes can be used for the same purpose);
  • It is recommended to wipe wardrobes with photo printing with a vinegar solution;
  • citric acid solution.

Sliding wardrobes with leather are cleaned with a damp cloth and then wiped with a dry one. Cleaning a mirror without streaks is easy: just take a little ammonia, wipe the facade, and then rinse with water. The result will exceed all expectations. With timely care, furniture will last up to 50 years. If you are not ready to spend a lot of time on caring for mirror surfaces, then it is better to refuse such models in the interior.

Dimensions

There are no standards for the dimensions of corner wardrobes, so if the manufacturer you choose refuses to take into account the measurements you made, you can refuse his services, since he is unlikely to be a professional. Of course, each supplier has established standards for product sizes. However, professional manufacturers can change them based on your wishes.

Plenty of space, and not just for clothes

For the average bedroom, the following sizes of corner wardrobes are distinguished:

  • height: 200-250cm;
  • depth: 50-70 cm;
  • width: from 50 to 250 cm (each side is different, depending on the shape and design).

By placing an individual order for the manufacture of a wardrobe for your bedroom, you can receive furniture that fits the size of the room as best as possible. Sometimes some area at first glance seems completely useless, but after thinking carefully, you can rearrange the existing furniture in such a way as to occupy it.

Not just a closet, but a separate dressing room

Advice When choosing a new corner wardrobe for the bedroom, you should not focus on the place where the old one stood. Often replacing furniture is a reason to rearrange. If you have placed previous furniture in certain places, and it has been there for years, or even decades, it is better to reconsider the layout of the bedroom, incorporating fresh ideas and ideas.

Color selection

The basic rule when choosing the color of a corner wardrobe for a bedroom: it should match the interior of the room.

If you are filling a bedroom from scratch, then, as a rule, the choice of furniture begins with either a bed or a closet. In this case, you have the opportunity to choose the wardrobe you like, and then, based on its color and design, select other furniture.

Printed door - a bright solution

Psychologists have long warned that the color scheme of a room greatly affects a person’s emotional state. If we again remember the fact that a person spends a third of his life in his sleep, which means he is in the bedroom more often than in other places, then you need to take time to choose the color of the wardrobe. Here are the features of the impact of popular shades on a person:

Red

The red color scheme in bedroom interior design must be used very carefully; only small details can have this shade. A sliding wardrobe is too large an element of the interior to make it red . Psychologists say that such a bright color leads to nervous excitability and overstrain.

Red color for a bold interior

Orange

Despite the fact that this color is associated with cheerfulness and positivity, it is better to choose it in those rooms where you need a feeling of cheerfulness. It is unlikely that such a room is a bedroom, so if you make a corner wardrobe orange, then it should be calm, close to light brown.

Blue

This relaxing shade can be safely used to decorate a wardrobe in the bedroom. For example, many people like the idea of creating a whole room in a Mediterranean style, so blue furniture would look very appropriate.

Corner wardrobe - compartment with blue print

Brown

This color was the most popular furniture shade in our country in the 90s. Today it is still relevant, so it can be safely used for a corner wardrobe in the bedroom. However, it is better to choose light shades rather than gloomily dark ones.

Note: Some colors will look ridiculous, bright, defiant, or, on the contrary, gloomy if the entire closet is painted in them. Therefore, designers recommend combining them with each other. These colors include: white, pink, purple, green, yellow.

Why is it better to make custom-made furniture?

For most of those who decide to purchase new furniture, the easiest way is to go to the store and buy the product they like. Still, it is much more practical to order a corner wardrobe for the bedroom individually. Here are just a few reasons for this:

  • Interior design trends dictate their conditions, and sometimes the owners, when decorating a bedroom, decide to combine incongruous things, for example, they use several techniques and styles, or decide to experiment with colors. If you need a green-purple wardrobe, it is unlikely that at least one furniture store will have one in stock, but if you contact the manufacturer with an individual order, they will be happy to fulfill your desire.

Radius corner cabinet

  • Every person, especially housewives, knows how many shelves, drawers, baskets and other contents they will need. For example, if a married couple adheres to a denim clothing style, so that the man does not have suits, and the woman does not stomach skirts and dresses, then they do not need a large number of rods inside the closet. To ensure that the model is practical and all its space is used, it is best to order it individually.

Original built-in wardrobe

Tip To make sure that you will like the custom-ordered corner wardrobe, you can first go to furniture stores and get acquainted with the models they offer. If you have such a financial opportunity, you can order the services of designers who will design the look of the wardrobe and how it will look in the bedroom, and evaluate the results in a 3D image.
