Recently, imitation timber has been considered a practical, economical and aesthetic interior design in cottages. This finish is often used in private construction. This material is cheaper than natural wood, but is used in finishing any surfaces. Find out about all the features of the material and more later in the article in more detail.

Finishing aspects

The imitation of timber is similar to simple lining, that is, individual lamellas are connected using a tongue-and-groove system. The finished surface has no intermediate patterns, and the lamellas are more massive. The boards are processed on both sides and can be used for exterior and interior decoration.

Finishing with imitation timber is a popular technology

The popularity of imitation timber is due to a large number of advantages in comparison with alternative types of finishing:
  • Ecologically clean, natural, hypoallergenic.
  • Economical. With the correct calculations of the surface to be treated and the material purchased, the panels are consumed in a minimum quantity and there is almost no waste left.
  • Good heat and sound insulation.
  • A variety of shades.
  • Quick and easy installation (there is a tongue and groove connection system).
  • High resistance to negative factors.
  • Excellent ventilation (special grooves are provided on the back of the boards). This ensures moisture removal and extends service life.

But this finish has several disadvantages, including a fire hazard, high maintenance requirements, and expensive components.

Environmentally friendly, natural material

Advantages and disadvantages of false beams

The popularity of this finishing material is explained by the presence of numerous undeniable advantages:

  • Versatility
    . Sheathing made from panels that imitate timber is used indoors and outdoors. It does not matter what material was used for the cladding - the timber is mounted on a concrete and brick base, on foam blocks, etc.
  • Easy installation
    . To complete the finishing, special skills and professional equipment are not required. Every home craftsman can handle this kind of work using a standard set of tools, which is usually available in every apartment. The speed of the process is explained by the presence of a tongue-and-groove system and the resistance of the timber to cracking. The products can be mounted on an uneven surface, since they are laid on a pre-assembled sheathing.
  • Long service life
    . The service life of the false timber is the same as that of the base. Often, lovers of wood buildings use cheaper products instead of expensive materials - they cover finished walls with these panels. The resistance of products to deformation is explained by the presence of special grooves on the reverse side.
  • Convenient repair
    . If one of the beam ceiling elements is damaged, it can be easily replaced in the shortest possible time by partially disassembling the cladding.

  • Availability of thermal insulation properties
    . Like any wood products, false beams make the room cozier and warmer. Since the material is soundproof, the room gains additional protection from external sounds.
  • Economical
    . The price of imitation is much lower than natural similar products. Installation of false timber is faster, so finishing is cheaper. A wide selection of panel sizes allows you to select options with less waste.
  • Environmental friendliness
    . Since only natural materials are used in the manufacture of false beams, these products do not contain harmful or allergic-causing components. This covering can be installed in bedrooms and children's rooms. The surface of such a ceiling “breathes”.
  • Decorativeness
    . Finishing with false timber has a beautiful appearance. The material is sold in a wide range of shades. Since the products imitate various tree species, you can always choose the appropriate option taking into account performance characteristics, color scheme, structure, variety, etc.

Raised timber also has disadvantages and they are similar to those of natural wood products. First of all, it is flammability, which must be taken into account when selecting a location for installing cladding made of this material. In addition, the ceiling surface requires regular care - it must be periodically painted, varnished and impregnated with antiseptic compounds.

Features of the material

Imitation beams are flat plates of wood 2 cm thick. They differ in width (185, 160, 135, 110 mm and less). The edges of the plates are chamfered, giving the surface a decorative appearance.

Finishes of different widths are used to solve different problems. To decorate interiors, it is better to choose narrow panels less than 110 mm wide, and exterior decoration should be done with wider plates.

The length of the plates is 2-6 meters. This allows you to purchase elements of suitable length and reduces the amount of waste generated.

Heat and sound insulating material

Imitation of timber can be used in leveling curved walls . You just need to install the guides evenly and the structure will be ready for installation. Wooden panels are suitable for finishing new buildings and reconstructing old ones. Any wall will look impressive if you make wooden paneling.

Choosing a shade is difficult. Each product has a unique structure and different colors, so you need to select wood carefully. For example, it is better to choose light shades for relaxation areas and the living room, and dark wood for the fireplace area and bedroom.

Available in a variety of shades

Advice Don’t be afraid to experiment; choose the right textiles and lighting to add coziness and warmth to the room.

Material of manufacture

The quality and price of finished products is influenced not only by their appearance, but also by the type of wood from which they are made.

For the production of false beams in our country, the following wood varieties are most often used:

  1. Pine. The most popular option for panels that can be used to carry out work indoors and outdoors. The only restrictions apply to baths and saunas: under conditions of elevated temperature, resins begin to be released from the structure of the imitation coniferous timber, causing burns when they come into contact with the skin. You should also take into account the presence of a specific smell of pine siding, which, however, many people like. As for spruce, it does not have such high qualities as pine, but its heat capacity is higher.

Imitation of pine timber

  1. Larch. A very dense material, characterized by hanging quality, aesthetics and the ability to hold the original geometry well. Processing false larch beams can cause some difficulties, so it is recommended to use it where high-quality sanding is not required.

Imitation larch timber

  1. Cedar. An excellent option for decorating steam rooms and baths: this is facilitated by its moisture resistance and the absence of resinous secretions when heated. Cedar imitation timber has a wide variety of shades and a pleasant smell. When considering this material as an option for ceiling cladding, you should take into account the fact that an echo will appear in the room.

Imitation of cedar timber

  1. Oak. An almost ideal false beam in all main indicators, which allows it to be used in any operating conditions. It has a very beautiful color and original structure. When covering ceilings with oak panels, their significant weight should be taken into account.

Imitation oak timber

  1. Beech. Finishing from this material is very similar to oak, at a lower cost. Most often, beech imitation is used indoors.

Selection of material depending on conditions

When choosing a building material for covering a room, you should take into account the properties of each tree species.

You need to rely on different aspects:

  • Humidity level . In rooms with a high volume of moisture, it is better to use panels made of larch and aspen. For objects with high decorative requirements, oak paneling is often selected; cedar and pine panels can be purchased for the living room.
  • Purpose of the premises. When decorating a house that will be used in warm weather, it is rational to use inexpensive, beautiful pine panels. For permanent residence, it is recommended to use plates made of cedar, oak, and larch. But at the same time, they take into account that cedar and larch take a long time to develop a coniferous aroma, so the wood is not suitable for lining bedrooms and children's rooms.
  • Degree of illumination . The shade of the wood is taken into account. For bright rooms, you can choose dark colors of oak and alder. For rooms facing north, light panels made of larch, pine, and linden are suitable. Cool colors are ideal for painted surfaces, and tinting is suitable for beige, cream, and yellow shades of wood.

Quick and easy to install

Types of imitation timber

Based on the type of wood, there are the following types of imitation timber:

  • pine,
  • Linden,
  • cedar,
  • larch,
  • oak,
  • nut,
  • others.

Each type has its own properties and therefore not all species may be suitable for exterior decoration, for example, cedar. This material is quite fragile, expensive and releases beneficial vapors for the body, which will simply dissipate from the outside. Pine is a universal, high-density wood suitable for any type of cladding. Larch and linden are highly resistant to moisture, so they are perfect for baths.

Regardless of the type and color, the imitation timber looks equally rich. You just need to decide on the design and purpose of the room where the wooden paneling will be located

Different types of wood for interior decoration

Each type of wood has its own characteristics. Pine has a normal wood texture, with a yellowish tint. The material is inexpensive and is used in cladding attics, kitchens, and corridors.

Cedar has a dark color and interesting structure. The panels retain the smell of pine needles for a long time and release phytoncides. Cedar wood is suitable for cladding ceilings and walls in libraries, offices and living rooms.

Larch wood has a light yellow color, which visually increases the size of small rooms. The material is resistant to humidity, provides high thermal insulation, so it can be used in the decoration of wet rooms with high temperatures (kitchens, saunas, bathrooms, dining rooms).

Has excellent ventilation

Oak panels have a unique texture of a dark shade, are more durable and strong. They are expensive, so they are used only in exclusive interiors.

Planks made of maple or alder wood have a reddish color and texture with clear rings. They do not have a pronounced aroma, so they can be used to decorate bedrooms and children's rooms.

Based on the quality of the external surface, there are several types of false timber:
  • Extra . This is a high grade, characterized by a smooth surface of the boards and even geometry. Made from spruce, pine, larch, Arkhangelsk pine.
  • Prima (A) is cheaper and may have one knot. Made from larch, Arkhangelsk pine, spruce.
  • Grade AB (B) . There may be a few small knots. Larch, spruce, and pine are used for production.
  • Economy (BC). An indefinite number of knots is allowed, produced from spruce, pine and larch.

Stylish and cozy bedroom

Panels of all types should not have through holes, fallen rotten knots of resin niches, wane, or mechanical damage to external surfaces.

Product classification

To facilitate the selection of the material required for cladding, imitation timber is classified according to certain characteristics.

Panels based on appearance are:

  1. Extra and class
    A. Manufacturers often combine these two varieties. The products are of the highest quality level. The boards have a perfectly flat surface, with the permissible number of knots being 1-3 pieces. The presence of mechanical defects is unacceptable. The panel configuration is accurate, and the dimensions have no deviations or tolerances. Products of the “Extra” grade are not found on the domestic market, and grade A products are sold at a high cost.
  2. Class AB
    . Such products differ from class A products by the presence of resin pockets up to 3 millimeters in size, which are found in minimal quantities. The permissible number of knots for timber is no more than 2 pieces per linear meter, and they must be alive.
  3. Class
    B. Minor distortions of the geometry of products within small limits are allowed. There are areas of sanding gaps and abrasions on the surface. The number of knots can be no more than 3, and only on the outside. There are minor mechanical damages, as well as resin pockets - two or more, small chips and cracks, the depth of which does not exceed 0.5 millimeters.
  4. Class
    C. This includes products that are of low quality, containing knots and mechanical damage. The tenon and groove may be uneven, and the knots may fall out. Cracks, chips and tar pockets are more than 0.5 millimeters deep. The cost of panels of this quality is small, but if you put effort into additional processing of the products and further installation, the ceiling surface will look no worse than when using class B lamellas.
  5. Aircraft class
    . Imitation timber belonging to this class often has fallen knots and mechanical damage.

The panels, regardless of the type, cannot contain:

  • through holes and rotten fallen knots;
  • resin niches having a width of more than 8 millimeters and a depth of more than 4 millimeters;
  • wane on a visible area of the surface, the same applies to the so-called “fringe”;
  • traces of mechanical damage on the ceiling with imitation timber finishing.

Execution of internal cladding

There are many types of finishes, among which it is sometimes difficult to choose. It is usually used for ceilings and walls. There are two types of cladding used in the house - monolithic and combined.

In the first case, the entire area of the ceiling and walls is covered with panels in compliance with all technologies. In the second option, partial processing of wood is carried out, a combination of imitation timber with textiles, wallpaper, and glass.

Bright and beautiful dining area

Wall decoration

Before finishing the walls with imitation timber, you need to wait for shrinkage (when covering a new house). At the preliminary stage, preparation is carried out with antiseptic treatment, vapor barrier, and laying of sheathing. After this, the panels are installed.

Using this material you can create original, unique interiors in rooms of different functionality. Panels up to 100 mm wide are suitable for narrow rooms, which will visually expand the space.

Tip The panels themselves are mounted horizontally. For larger rooms with low ceilings, it is better to mount the planks vertically.

Bathroom finishing

Ceiling

The ceiling surface must be sheathed after finishing the walls. In this case, narrower panels are purchased, attached to the sheathing in increments of 50-60 cm, placed along the length of the room. They start working from the window.

To calculate the area of the ceiling surface, multiply its width by its length. The resulting figure is divided by the area of one beam . The result is the number of panels required for the cladding. It is not difficult to calculate the fastenings: the total number of planks is multiplied by the number of parts needed to fasten one board.

Living room in Provence style

Before attaching to the surface, the panels need to be kept indoors for 4-6 days and adapted to the microclimate. First remove dirt and unnecessary parts from the walls and ceiling, cover them with impregnations and antiseptic solutions. Then the vapor barrier and sheathing are attached with a construction stapler (screws are used at a distance of 70 cm).

When performing complex cladding of a ceiling with walls, first the walls are finished and the planks are secured with clamps. To fix the plastic to the ceiling, use self-tapping screws or small nails. Connections in corners are made with internal and external corners. At the final stage, sanding, tinting or painting is carried out. Processing imitation timber increases the wear resistance of the boards.

When making renovations in a room at least once, everyone is faced with the question of how and with what to decorate the ceiling.

The ceiling is the place that is changed or remodeled the least often. Therefore, you want to do it “excellently”, and not return to the idea that something uncomfortable and not beautiful is hanging over you.

The ceiling space in the interior plays one of the main roles. This is where the general perception of the geometry of the room begins. Using design techniques, you can increase the height of the room, soften sharp corners, or divide the room into functional zones. You should also not forget about lighting, which plays an important role. Its installation and location on the ceiling will help your room sparkle with bright colors.

What you need to know so that there are no problems when finishing the ceiling with imitation timber

Imitation of timber

- this is a board that looks similar to the lining of the style, but differs from it in a beautiful, triangular chamfer. When covering the ceiling with imitation timber, a visual impression is created - as if the surface was made of natural timber.

You should know that any tree changes its geometry when exposed to dryness and humidity. This means that if you buy imitation timber with 14% humidity, and in your house the humidity is less than 40%, the board will shrink to 8%.

Photo 2. Installation of imitation timber on the ceiling

If this happens on the ceiling, then cracks cannot be avoided. Therefore, first we let the material lie in the place of future installation with the ends of the packages torn, and then, after measuring the humidity with a moisture meter and making sure that it is less than 10%, you can begin installation. Below we will show you a video where we had to do the dismantling of amateur finishers in such matters:

But still larch or pine

  • decide on the room where you want to make the ceiling cladding with imitation timber. Depending on its purpose (bedroom, living room, terrace, etc.), you will need to choose a type of wood that is suitable in its characteristics for the microclimate of the room. So, for example: larch, contrary to everything written about it on sellers’ websites, shrinks enormously and swells just as much at high humidity, therefore, when choosing a tree, you should think about whether pine would be a less capricious option;
  • choose colors. Will they suit your interior? Of course, a universal solution for interior decoration is a white imitation timber ceiling. But the variety of pleasant shades of wood that nature itself offers us will help create a unique interior. It is important to remember that when treating wood with oils and paints, the wood changes its original color, but the texture remains visible. Order paintings and you will know exactly what shade it will be when all the work on lining the ceiling with imitation timber is completed.

Recommendations for painting wood panels

Our company uses the latest wood coloring technologies in its workshop, and also offers you paints for natural wood, which are environmentally friendly and will preserve all the naturalness and texture of the wood, painting it in the color you want. You can order colors and design options in the LesoBirzha online store, or come to us in person and see the stands.

When painting yourself, we strongly recommend that you follow the stages of work that we do in our workshop; in general, you will see for yourself in this video:

As you can see, painting lumber is quite a troublesome task. And when they tell me that the painting of the boards will be done by the carpenters who did the finishing and the customer is ready for this because it is cheaper than in the workshop... then I always know that seeing the result, most often, he will greatly regret that he did not entrust the work to us .

Of course, finishing the ceiling in a wooden house with imitation timber always looks harmonious; here you can use more massive boards, the thickness and width of which are close to the real dimensions of the timber. Such impressive sizes are more appropriate to use in rooms with a large area, and narrower and thinner panels will complement the interior of compact rooms and are suitable for standard apartments.

How to attach imitation timber to the ceiling?

  1. Installation of sheathing - sheathing slats are attached perpendicular to the location of the panels, in increments of 50-60 cm.
  2. If necessary, we lay insulation between the bars;
  3. Using a construction stapler, we install a vapor barrier and glue the joints with special vapor barrier tape;
  4. Counter. lath - a 40x20 block, installed on top of the vapor barrier, pressing it;
  5. Fastening the panels - work usually starts from the window. Fastening is done using self-tapping screws or clamps. It is better to use self-tapping screws for more massive panels, and for lighter ones - clamps.

Video about what types of clamps there are and how they can be attached to screws in a hidden way

As you can see, it is much easier to attach to clamps. For finishing ceilings using imitation timber, a reinforced clamp number 5 or 6 (depending on the thickness of the rear groove) is best suited.

Imitation timber made from red-barked Angara pine, having appeared on the market, very quickly became a brand. And no wonder. Made from a side board (the company takes the entire middle of the log onto a block), the panel has virtually no knots; even in low grades, this wood is superior to both the needles of the northern regions and larch.

Exterior paneling

It must be remembered that imitation timber is used for a ventilated facade and there must be a gap between the cladding and the thermal insulation layer. The panels can even be attached to objects made of logs or natural timber . This technology is convenient because it allows you to preserve the original appearance of the building for a long time. Therefore, it is profitable and rational.

Open plan in a country house

When purchasing material, you should consider the main nuances:
  • Humidity level up to 15% (to prevent facade distortion during operation).
  • Availability of grooves. The original appearance of the panels will remain longer.
  • Width about 100 mm. The siding will look like timber. With a smaller width, the panels will look cheap, and wider ones will look sloppy.
  • Quality of the locking connection.
  • Smoothness, evenness, absence of damage and defects.

The material and components are preliminarily calculated, walls, window and door openings are measured.

Stylish kitchen

High-quality panels are not difficult to install. But the work is carried out in strict order:
  • Prepare the surface by cleaning the walls from dirt. They can be treated with an antiseptic against pathogenic microflora.
  • The sheathing is placed vertically to the base and secured with dowels or self-tapping screws.
  • High-quality vapor and heat insulation is installed. The insulation is attached to a vapor barrier film and covered with it, the joints are taped.
  • Panels with decorative elements are attached.
  • The facade is secured with nails or screws.
  • Cover with antiseptics and varnishes.

Rustic style

The panels need to be fastened in the direction from bottom to top, the grooves are located in the lower part. This will prevent moisture from entering. The first bar is placed with a level, since the evenness of the surface will depend on its correct installation. The fasteners are screwed in at a 45 degree angle.

Work is carried out at a temperature of at least -15°C, in dry weather. Panels should only be painted in dry and warm weather.

To extend the life of a façade covered with slats, you should properly care for the surface. It is necessary to periodically coat them with varnish and check for rot, fungus and defects.

With proper installation and care of the coating, imitation timber will serve for a long time without losing its positive properties and beauty.

Material suitable for different styles

Attaching false beams to the ceiling

Work on the construction and renovation of a property begins with careful planning of upcoming events and with the preparation of diagrams and drawings. Thanks to this, you can determine as accurately as possible the amount of building materials and the list of tools.

To find out the area of the ceiling, its width is multiplied by its length. The result obtained is divided by the area of one false beam and the number of panels required for cladding is obtained. It is not difficult to calculate how many fasteners you need: the number of fasteners required to fix one board is multiplied by the number of slats. The diagram should contain information on where to start installation. You need to buy materials in reserve.

List of materials and tools:

  • false beam;
  • metal profiles or wooden slats for the frame or sheathing;
  • mounting nails;
  • self-tapping screws 60-90 millimeters long;
  • dowels;
  • screwdriver plus attachments;
  • hand saw;
  • hammer;
  • perforator;
  • tape measure, cord, pencil;
  • wood antiseptic.

Varnish and paint coating

The type of protective agent, impregnation and components depends on the room conditions. It could be:

  • Indoor room with heating . You can use imitation timber without careful processing and special impregnations. The material can be varnished.
  • Unheated room (enclosed veranda, country room) . You need a choice of wood with several layers of antiseptic and drying oil. This will ensure the surface resistance to negative influences.
  • In a bathroom, sauna, bathhouse, where high humidity and temperature changes are typical, the use of galvanized profiles and the use of special protective compounds is required.

Beautiful room for a little princess

When painting, wood is coated with a composition of a certain shade.

We first study the available assortment, taking into account the following aspects:
  • Invisible transparent compounds highlight the beauty of wood and preserve its original appearance. With the help of such mixtures you can combine shades. These are stains, impregnations, glazes, various varnishes.
  • Colored dyes are applied to the primer. It can be painted with compounds intended for interior decoration.

Regardless of the paint chosen, the surface must be carefully prepared and primed.

Imitation timber for exterior decoration of a house: installation features

If we talk about the external cladding of the walls and facade of a private house, then there is only one feature - the installation of waterproofing. During finishing work, after fixing the sheathing and priming the surface, you need to take a roll of waterproofing material, installing it vertically along the wall, starting from the top point. The material is fixed with a construction stapler; it must be fastened with the rough side inward. As for the joints, they are taped, which ensures reliable waterproofing of the base of the house.

You can also make your home more comfortable by installing an additional thermal insulation layer. The fastening method directly depends on the wall material and insulation used for finishing work. Expanded polystyrene or mineral wool can be used as thermal insulation material. When installing panels, the main thing is to correctly install the first panel, which needs to be checked with a building level, which will prevent distortions from occurring. Upon completion, the material is treated with a special grater or sandpaper and coated with varnish or paint that protects the wood from precipitation.

Application of simple paint on wood

Panels treated with a simple solution go through the usual processing steps. You can use any paint, including acrylic, alkyd or oil-based. The technology includes the following stages:

  • Cleaning the front part of the lining, sanding.
  • The parts are treated with a soft brush, removing dirt from them and treating them with an antiseptic. It is better to use colorless compounds so as not to change the color of the applied paint.
  • A primer is applied to the wood.
  • The timber is painted using a roller, brush or spray.

To better highlight certain areas, you can tint the primer. This will allow the final coat to be applied evenly.

Decorating an office in a country house

It is better to postpone painting if the room has high humidity or is very hot.

Features of finishing with imitation timber inside the house

Wall cladding in the interior of a private house has certain features, so it is important to follow the recommendations of specialists, which will avoid additional difficulties and costs. To fasten the panels, it is better to use clamps rather than screws and nails. The thing is that a self-tapping screw can crack the material, and a nail leaves dents, which affects the appearance of the facing material.

If we talk about the clamp, the holes for it are drilled in advance (taking into account its working part), thanks to which it closes the resulting hole. To create an attractive corner joint, you can install the panels in a checkerboard pattern or file the edge of each of them at an angle of 45 degrees. You can create color saturation of the surface, protecting the material from external influences, by covering the panels with varnish.

Use of clear coatings

Colorless and environmentally friendly liquids have high adhesion. They protect the timber from destruction and emphasize the unique texture. When drying, there is no unpleasant odor and constant air circulation is not required.

Instead of such compositions, you can use different oils that penetrate the wood, polymerize, protecting it from external factors. Such properties are found in a combination of boiled linseed oil, degreaser and varnish.

Also, a protective film can be created with turpentine, rosin and linseed oil. With the help of organic solutions, protection will be provided, natural beauty will be emphasized, and a vapor barrier will prevent moisture from penetrating into the imitation timber.

Living room in classic style

Textured coloring

The advantage of textured dyes is that they impart special beauty and uniqueness to the material. Texture can be emphasized in different ways:

  • Obtaining a relief contour using a metal brush . It is carried several times along the wood fibers. As a result, the soft fibers disappear, while the hard ones remain intact. After painting the wood, the crumbs that appear are removed with a soft brush and covered with a layer of glaze. The remaining glaze is blotted with a sponge and a clear varnish is applied.
  • The “bleached” wood technique is created by a similar finish . Only in this case the white color of the glaze is used, applied to a colorless varnish, and the remains are blotted with a sponge. As a result, small cracks become white, and the relief particles retain their natural shade.
  • Aging under the mechanical influence of hands, so artificial minor damage appears on the surface . The facing is primed and treated with a chisel until chipping occurs. You can also pierce the wood with nails several times and cause other microtraumas to the wood.

Imitation of timber in an apartment

How to choose material?

When choosing imitation timber, you should take into account the specific place where you plan to use it.

An important requirement for exterior boards is resistance to moisture and rot. The best types of raw materials for its production include oak and larch. Less resistant types of wood have a shorter service life and require thorough impregnation with compounds that have an antibacterial effect.

You also need to determine the load that the board will have to withstand. Imitation timber is best suited for ceilings and walls. This material is not at all suitable for structural beams and supports, since it cannot cope with supporting loads and, as a result, bends.

It is necessary to choose the correct length of the facing board and its width. The advantage of imitation timber is the possibility of finishing a room whose wall length is up to 6 m with a continuous board. Thus, the imitation is preserved. The optimal width of such a board is up to 10 cm. If the board is wider, the room will be visually smaller. For exterior finishing, a board with a width of 10 cm or more is suitable.

The type of tree is important. The most expensive and completely free of any defects variety is called “Extra”. It is followed by grades A and AB. Minor flaws can be hidden behind furniture, mirrors and paintings.

In terms of texture and shade, imitation timber should be harmoniously combined with other wooden components of the interior. You should look through the most suitable options and choose the optimal color. When purchasing boards from two or more places, the color and texture may vary slightly even if the same type of wood was used. This is important to take into account when joining boards.

The best imitation of timber is considered to be material made from oak and larch

Some interesting ideas for using false beams

Nowadays, wood paneling allows you to create a room design in the style of a bungalow or chalet for hunters and wildlife lovers. Such material allows the use of ethnographic styles, which are especially popular now. Wood trim creates an atmosphere of comfort, coziness, and makes the interior discreet and unobtrusive.

The surface of such panels is flat (compared to a block house), so they can be used to treat any room while maintaining usable space.

Wooden panels are most often attached horizontally, but the panels can be placed vertically or at different angles.

Beautiful country house design

Imitation of timber allows you to obtain an environmentally friendly interior at minimal cost.

There are several unique solutions for using timber:
  • Combination of wood and plaster . The facade can be faced with different finishing options. For example, panels with a layer of plaster are suitable. The result is a house with straight lines, elegant and strict. Its height will visually increase thanks to the “striped” pattern.
  • Combination of stone and timber . This is a good combination that can be made in equal proportions. Stone decorations will emphasize the naturalness of the finish and the superiority of wooden materials.
  • Full wood paneling on the outside . Anyone can own such a house. The layout is suitable for permanent residence or active recreation. You can finish with timber inside and outside in accordance with the exterior and interior.
  • Imitation of log walls . At first it seems that the house is made of rounded logs, but these are only panels. The technology is simple, it allows you to preserve the naturalness of the raw materials used, maintaining the quality of the structure.

Use of material for finishing the ceiling

The cost of finishing will depend on the price of the false panels, on the complexity of the geometry (the simpler it is, the lower the labor costs will be).

Pros and cons of imitation timber

The popularity of imitation timber is explained by the presence of a number of advantages:

  • Universalism. Sheathing made from boards profiled like timber can be used both indoors and outdoors. The material of the base for the cladding practically does not matter: false beams can be installed on concrete, brick, wood, foam blocks, etc. with equal success.
  • Easy to install. To carry out the cladding, special construction skills and professional tools are not needed. Any adequate owner can cope with such a task, armed with a standard set of household tools. The presence of a tongue-and-groove system and the material’s resistance to cracking only contribute to the speed of its installation. False beams can be used to decorate not very smooth surfaces, since they are laid on a pre-constructed frame.
  • Duration of operation. The service life of the imitation timber is approximately the same as the base itself. Quite often, lovers of wooden buildings use cheaper materials for construction instead of expensive wood, covering the finished walls with false timber. The resistance of the panels to deformation is ensured by special grooves on the reverse side.

  • Ease of repair. If a certain cladding element is damaged, it can be replaced very quickly by easily disassembling the required section of the cladding. This is facilitated by the already mentioned tongue-and-groove fixation system.
  • Thermal insulation. Like any type of natural wood, imitation timber can make a room cozier and warmer. As a result, heating costs are reduced by an order of magnitude. Due to the weak sound permeability of the material, the room will receive additional protection from external noise.
  • Economical. The cost of imitation timber is an order of magnitude cheaper than its natural counterpart. In addition, installation of fake material is much easier and faster. Therefore, builders charge an order of magnitude less money for finishing with such panels. A wide range of lamella sizes allows you to choose the most waste-free option for a particular surface.
  • Environmental Safety . Due to the use of exclusively natural materials for the production of false beams, they do not contain any harmful or allergy-causing components. This allows the material to be used in children's rooms and bedrooms. The surface arranged in this way is breathable, so there is no need to worry about blocking the room in this case.

False timber is absolutely environmentally friendly, so it can be used in children's rooms and bedrooms

  • Decorative qualities. Surfaces finished with false timber are distinguished by their excellent appearance and significant variety of shades. The use of imitation of various types of wood for manufacturing allows you to select the most suitable options for finishing the room in terms of color, structure and performance characteristics.

As for the disadvantages of imitation timber , they are the same as those of natural wood. First of all, this is poor fire resistance : this should be taken into account when choosing a place to lay this cladding. In addition, the finishing surface needs regular care : it must be painted, varnished or impregnated with antiseptic substances from time to time.
