SETS WITH MOTION SENSOR
An alarm for a garage is somewhat different from an apartment alarm in terms of operational requirements. The first thing you should pay attention to is the operating temperature range.
Garages are predominantly unheated spaces, so the lower limit, depending on the region, can be up to -20°C...-35°C.
Many installers recommend installing the main alarm unit in some closed, isolated volume that creates its own microclimate, for example, in an electrical panel box.
In addition, in the summer, the garage heats up to fairly high temperatures, which are critical for most electronic devices intended for indoor use. Therefore, the maximum temperature that the device must withstand is in the region of +50°C...+60°C.
The second factor influencing the choice of alarm system for a garage is the lack of wired communication lines and, often, problems with power supply. Consequently, we will talk exclusively about GSM signaling, preferably with the possibility of autonomous operation.
A GSM alarm system intended for installation in a garage must solve two main problems:
First, inform the owner in the early stages of intrusion attempts. The most effective solution is to use sensors installed on garage doors. They will warn about attempts to mechanically impact building structures or movement inside the garage box.
Secondly, the GSM alarm system must raise the alarm using local warning means - alarm sirens and strobe flashes.
In addition, the garage alarm after unauthorized entry must notify the owner in one or more of the following ways:
- Sending an alarm SMS to one or more numbers included in the device’s memory. As a rule, this is the number of the owner, watchman and security service of the garage cooperative.
- Consecutive dialing to programmed numbers.
- If the GSM alarm system is equipped with a photo or video camera, in addition to the previous methods of informing, an MMS message is sent to the mobile phone or email address.
- In addition, an effective GSM alarm system for a garage should report interruptions in power supply or battery charge level.
To solve the assigned problems, ready-made GSM alarm kits, cheaper units with a motion sensor, or a previously installed security system connected to a GSM module are used.
Advantages of GSM alarm system for garage
Most garage security systems run on electricity that is connected to the home. When electrical problems occur, the system shuts down. The garage remains unguarded. The GSM alarm system has autonomous batteries that operate without electricity in the house.
GSM alarm system is unique in that the control unit is located in a closed container. The control unit will operate at temperatures from minus 40 to plus 70 degrees Celsius.
Rating of the best models
The world of alarms has its leaders and outsiders; these 2 lists are dynamically changing, being replenished with new models. The concept of “best alarm” is conditional, since it includes a combination of various criteria. Objectively, this is the one that will work in a critical situation and will not let you down.
And among the most frequently requested devices for garages and cottages are the following:
- Guardian Avizor Kit GSM. Universal alarm with a wide range of uses. Supports 12 independent security zones with an unlimited number of mounted sensors. Works with SMS channel for up to 6 mobile terminals.
- Ajax StarterKit White. Basic model with wireless communication and capacity expansion by installing additional signal sources. As a means of communication, it uses the GSM band (working) with implemented support for an Ethernet channel (reserve). Connect up to 100 devices with coverage of a protected area within a radius of up to 2 kilometers.
- Alfa Vip 606C. The kit is designed for compact objects (dacha, house, garage). The block extends about a hundred contactless and up to 7 wired security sections. Transmits an alarm signal to 6 fixed telephone numbers.
- GSM-Life SOS LS-30. The scope of application of the alarm system is the protection of garages and residential buildings using the “smart home” automation principle. Transmission means – wired telephone, GSM, Ethernet, Dial-UP. The unit is connected to 3 cable and up to 300 wireless channels. The number of telephone numbers served is 15.
- Guardian Evolution Kit. A DIY kit for those who want to create a garage alarm system based on 12 simultaneously functioning zones. In the “alarm” mode, the electronics unit sends SMS and calls 10 specified numbers.
- Altronics AL-150 Kit is easy to use, reliable and efficient. Works with a combination of 4 wired and 16 contactless signal sources, serves a variety of sensors (motion, noise, opening). Supports up to 5 numbers of garage or cottage owners.
- The guard is a Russian-made product. Its quality does not suffer from this: the base unit contains controls for 2 independent movement channels. If desired, the number of sensors increases. For information purposes, 10 selected telephone numbers are stored in memory.
- Falcon Eye FE. The alarm has 32 connectable wireless security zones. In case of danger, the unit sends a message by email, calls the selected subscriber or sends an SMS. As a last resort, there is a powerful acoustic howler. An audio recording of what is happening at the facility is provided.
- Ginzzu is low-cost and “understands” regular and IP cameras. Each surveillance channel can be individually configured for optimal coverage of the monitored area of responsibility. They control the alarm from a smartphone, PC or mobile terminal.
- Alexor KIT495-4EUH2 is famous for its accuracy of detections (false alarms are excluded) and serves 32 observation sites. The unit is equipped with motion/opening sensors.
The listed options for protecting a garage or home are a small part of the range of alarms on the market, cheap and expensive, imported and domestic. The choice is large and depends on the preferences and needs of the customer.
Starline B94
This model is functionally related to car alarms, but in its capabilities it surpasses conventional security units for cars. “Signalka” is equipped with a non-scannable managed code, a 512-channel reception and transmission system with the ability to communicate at a distance of up to 2 kilometers.
It is impossible to enter the garage where a car equipped with such a unit will be parked, and it is impossible to disable the protection remotely with impunity. The list of compatible models includes about 250 brands of automakers. Nothing needs to be modified; the B94 fits perfectly into the interior and electrical circuits of the car.
Scher-Khan Magicar 8
The car alarm has two versions - 2008 and 2009, but is still competitive and reliable. The key to success is a “floating”, non-fixed signal broadcast code. The alarm unit, installed on a car located in a garage, on the street or in a parking lot, reliably connects with the key fob at a range of up to 2000 meters. One device controls 2 machines simultaneously if Magicar 8 units are installed on each of them.
Pandora 500 PRO
Alarm systems for protecting expensive cars are no match for basic ones - this is clear when looking at this example. And it's not just the high cost. Experts do not advise trying to save on installation, since such a move will negate all the advantages of the model.
Pandora has 2 independent data transmission channels - GSM and GPS. The company also announced the release of smart watches designed to monitor security functions. The device turned out to be serious, with great potential. It is technically impossible to steal a car that is guarding Pandora's block, just like taking it out of a garage or parking lot.
Pandora Deluxe 3700
Another Pandora model with good equipment. In fact, this is a real smartphone among alarm systems. A multifunctional key fob cannot be called a simple “clicker”, not only because it is equipped with a display. With its help, you can control the protection of your car in the garage, remotely start the engine, and much more.
Hidden in compact electronic units are high-tech electronics that detect the slightest displacement of the machine in space, taking into account impacts/tilts and burglary attempts. The alarm is controlled by a microprocessor architecture similar to that found in modern communicators. The owner who has installed a “deluxe” car on his car is absolutely calm about the safety of his property.
Magnum MH-880-03
Powerful. Reliable. Compact. With autonomous power supply. Reliable, like a Magnum revolver. This is the alarm system of this model, intended for installation on cars stored in a garage or open parking lot.
The electronic unit interfaces with a smartphone running Android and iOS. For programming, a connection to a PC via USB 2.0 is used. The security of the object (the car and the adjacent area - garage, parking lot) is carried out through 20 independent channels. The alarm system is protected from tampering or attempts to de-energize the power circuit.
Choosing a GSM alarm model for a garage
There are a large number of alarm models. One model turns on a siren and sends notifications to the home owner when a violation occurs. Other models only connect to the central monitoring console.
There are a large number of products on the market from different manufacturers. The quality of the models sold is almost the same. The difference lies only in the functionality of the alarm and its capabilities. When choosing an alarm system that comes with a siren, you need to pay attention to the number of connected loops, functionality and ease of installation.
Every owner of a private home can buy a garage alarm. But you shouldn’t save money when purchasing and installing. If you buy a cheap alarm system and install it yourself, you may receive erroneous SMS messages to your phone number. If you trust a reliable manufacturer, your garage will be completely safe.
The principle of operation of the security system
The process of functioning of the JSM block for use in a country house and garage building is based on a network of remote signal sources located along the guarded perimeter, capable of working in a complex, checking information about penetration into an object, opening doors, breaking windows or an attack.
The alarm system includes sensors:
- Movements.
- Discoveries.
- Cameras.
- Microphones.
“Advanced” alarms even have a special siren that can scare overly impressionable thieves with sharp sounds. Expensive systems take into account all changes in the situation - unnatural smoke, power failures, temperature changes, vibrations, air fluctuations.
As soon as the intelligent unit determines that something wrong is happening, it will immediately notify the owner, who will make a decision: call the police or come to the protected facility in person.
In the list of “allowed” numbers, it is permissible to indicate not one, but several, which is also convenient: family members, friends and relatives are notified at the same time. Failures are excluded, since information flows are monitored with inhuman speed and accuracy, with an instant response to any “anomalies” in the operation of the alarm system. Even automatic photo and video recording is possible.
System composition and installation features
We can highlight the following main components of a security alarm system for installation in a garage, which must be included:
- The control panel is the main device; the main functionality of the alarm system depends on it. It must be installed secretly, so that when it gets inside the room it does not catch the eye, and using the wires from the sensors it is impossible to quickly determine the location of its installation. Most often, a GSM alarm or radio is used to protect a garage. It is very difficult to drown out the latter, because it is not known at what frequency it operates, and the private security company that installs such systems will not disseminate this information. Radio is also a way out for “dead places” where there is neither a telephone line nor reception from cellular operators. Most panels require external power, so having electricity in the garage is a must;
- Opening sensor - installed on gates, doors and windows, if any. For swing gates, it is better to install two sensors at once - good models IO 102-26 (average price 180-200 rubles) and 102-20 (average cost 200-500 rubles, depending on the version). They can be installed on metal surfaces and have a gap between the magnetic part and the reed switch of up to 70mm, which has a “positive effect” on the absence of false alarms. For doors and windows, a more compact model IO 102-2 (about 50 rubles per piece) or SC-555 (about 500-600 rubles, suitable for metal doors) is suitable;
- Motion sensor - installed inside the garage, usually in one of the corners opposite the entrance.
The sensor must cover the entire room, and there must be no foreign objects in its path. Among wired and budget sensors, the Astra-515 (average price 380-400 rubles) and Piron-4d (average price 450-480 rubles) models have proven themselves well. The latter has the advantage of having protection from small animals: rats, mice, cats. The motion sensor must be installed so that when the door is opened, the intruder falls into the “visibility zone”, and there are no other obstacles on the way that create a dead zone. The main recommendations are as follows: install at a height of 2.3 - 2.5 meters from the floor level, while the length of the security zone is 10-12 meters. The sensor beam diagram is shown below: - Vibration sensor - designed to detect attempts to break through and destroy a wall, floor or roof. Such a sensor must be installed in the least protected places, for example the walls of a neighbor’s garage. Ideally, of course, on all walls and ceilings, but such sensors are not cheap. One of the popular models, "Rustle-2", from the Realta company, will cost around 1200-1400 rubles apiece, and you will need four for each surface. The only thing worth considering is that if there is a railway next to your garage, the sensitivity of the sensor will have to be reduced to a minimum, if not turned off completely;
- A howler or siren is a must for installation in a garage. This device performs two important functions: firstly, it is a psychological impact on the intruder, and secondly, it is a means of attracting attention, since garages are usually located in remote places where there are no people, and the thief has a lot of time to get into inside. The main thing is not to forget that the volume of the siren should not exceed 105-110 dBA;
- A microphone is a very necessary addition to an alarm system. Not all models have the ability to connect, so it’s better to check this right away. The usefulness of the microphone is that after receiving a message about a break-in, you can connect to the alarm and listen to what is happening inside the room and understand whether you need to go or not;
- Fire detector - sometimes you can install a fire alarm in the garage, for example, a smoke or heat detector, this is useful if the garage is adjacent to the house, flammable materials are stored there, or welding work is carried out there. The smoke sensor has the shape of a small washer, which is located on the ceiling or walls. They detect smoke in the room, thereby signaling a fire. Thermal sensors detect fires and are placed at a distance of about 20 cm from the ceiling, since the maximum air temperature occurs in this segment during a fire.
If you decide to install a wireless system, it is worth considering that the garage must be insulated, and the batteries, like the sensors themselves, must withstand negative temperatures. From experience, we can say that not all devices can cope even with a temperature of -10 ° C and refuse to work (although according to the passport they should).
When there is no electricity at all in the garage, you can install a stand-alone alarm system that runs entirely on batteries, but cannot transmit information about a break-in to the owner. The purpose of this device, like a siren, is to scare away and attract external attention. The efficiency is not very high, so it is better to use a different method for the main panel, instead of using a power adapter, use a high-capacity battery. For example, for 50 - 70 Ah, which should be enough for 1-2 months of alarm operation, then take it for recharging. The main thing to consider here is that in order for the battery to work, it must be turned off when the voltage drops below 9 volts and not used at low temperatures.
