The ideal texture, individual images and natural palette of wood shades allow you to create a cozy and calm atmosphere in any room.
Materials made from trees envelop us in nature with their lively appearance and aroma. Thanks to natural cellulose substances, wood can improve the microclimate in the home.
If wooden furniture is exposed to the rays of the sun, it darkens a little, and the attributes may look completely different in the interior.
This is not scary. If the material was previously covered with a protective layer of a special product, then this effect will not occur.
Furniture items and tree species
Trees are divided into: hard and soft.
The first species include oaks, beeches, walnuts and cherries. The density of the varieties makes it possible to produce durable, but at the same time heavy attributes.
The second species are alder, pine species and linden.
For bedroom and living room
So practical and convenient
The furniture is ideal for the bedroom interior. The best option is made from solid pine. Low cost, pleasant light shade, which exudes warmth, make this choice the most successful for the bedroom interior. A more expensive, but no less suitable option for a bedroom set is made of beech.
Solid mahogany furniture deserves special attention
, which will be ideal for decorating bedrooms in styles where the predominant feature is luxury and elegant aristocracy. For the living room, the most relevant would be coffee tables and armchairs, the creation of which uses solid birch that is distinguished by its special sophistication. A solid oak bookcase will fit perfectly into such an interior.
Selection of furniture made from natural wood
Before purchasing furniture sets, be sure to consider the lighting in the room where the attribute will be placed.
Dark varieties create a cold atmosphere in the room, but light tones of wood bring the warmth of home comfort into the space.
Neutral, calm shades of trees fit well into small rooms with not too bright lighting.
For a large room, light varieties can serve as an accent to attract attention throughout the space.

Cooperative "Pioneer"
The founder of the Pioneer cooperative, architect Ivan Ovchinnikov, is an enthusiast of the woodworking industry. Since 2005, he has supervised the architectural festival “Cities”, and in 2010 he organized the experimental site “Archfarm” - a creative residence located in the Tula region. Last year, the project closed, but Ovchinnikov continued his work, creating the Pioneer cooperative, which produces wooden furniture at a factory in Troitsk.
Ovchinnikov approaches the design of interior items with the care of an architect: he experiments with different types of veneer and wood and focuses on the design of objects, without being distracted by external decoration. Thus, the “90×90” series of monumental furniture is assembled without a single nail, and items from the Ultralam series are made from LVL timber, a material usually used for support beams. One of Ovchinnikov’s latest developments is a monolithic kitchen table with a built-in bed for growing herbs. To bring his furniture projects to the consumer, Ovchinnikov organized the “Industrial Designers Club”, the goal of which is to support young Russian designers and organize mass production of furniture.
Ivan Ovchinnikov
Wood is still the basis of all my projects. In construction, this is the most traditional and somewhat simple material. Most often we use coniferous wood - pine or spruce. For me, the image and overall volume of the item are important, and expensive varieties are not needed for this. Recently, we were the first in Russia to start using LVL timber in furniture production - complex and interesting layered structures are made from it.
I set the basis for all design decisions, and there are several people who periodically help with development, but there is no permanent staff of architects or designers. For different projects I invite different people - architects or designers. For example, we are now developing a new furniture series together with a student from Stroganovka from the furniture design department. And a well-coordinated team is already working in production - currently about ten people.
Recently I drew for myself the analogy of an architect and an official and saw that in many ways we are similar: each has influence on the course of the project, each is financially interested in a gray scheme. Only among officials this is called corruption, and they are fighting against it, but among architects this is a long-legalized kickback from materials or equipment. And it often turns out that the architect/designer initially underestimates the cost of his work, dumping the entire market, but at the same time returns part of the profit through kickbacks in a crooked way. And as a production worker, I have now stopped working according to this scheme. Over the past couple of months, I have already refused promotion on two projects, and in each case these were guys with whom I had worked before. It's nice that one of them just took it for granted, and we continue projects with him, and the other left, but I think he will return.
All we want is to develop production, launch ready-made solutions into series and develop new ones. And I also want to make a comfortable chair - it turns out that this is more difficult than building a house.

Advantages and disadvantages of wooden furniture
Some people consider wood to be an ideal material with no drawbacks. However, when choosing such furniture, you need to know about all its pros and cons.
Of course, natural wood does not emit harmful substances for the human body. Practically does not cause allergic reactions. It is warm and pleasant to the touch. Produces a unique woody aroma. Natural patterns give an unusual look to any product. They always look expensive and chic, decorating any interior. Durability and practicality are always at the highest level.
The main advantages of wooden furniture are its naturalness and environmental friendliness.
However, there are also disadvantages:
- high price;
- cracking;
- tendency to form mold and fungi;
- susceptibility to damage from insects;
- Possible rotting if not used correctly.
Wood also has disadvantages that should be taken into account.
To extend its service life, it is necessary to properly care for wooden furniture. Only then will it last a long time without upsetting its owners.
Attributes of walnut furniture
Wood with an expressive structure and uneven color from light to dark shades of brown. Pronounced capillaries in the walnut material help the furniture have a unique appearance.
The type of wood is expensive and some consumers are not happy with it, so the furniture is simply veneered.
What types of wood are there?
Wood can be hard (oak, apple, elm, beech and others) or soft (pine, poplar, cedar). The first option is mainly used to create load-bearing structures that will bear the maximum load. Various finishing elements are most often made from soft wood, because this material is the easiest to give a decorative look. It should be borne in mind that soft material is not intended for heavy loads.
Table No. 1. Different types of wood: features.
Breed | Description |
Pine | A popular material used in furniture making. It is soft, so it is not suitable for creating durable structures. Most often, small shelves and cabinets are made from it. |
Birch | This type of wood has a unique decorative appearance, especially after finishing. Since birch is soft, it is used only to create small tables and other small interior items. |
Willow | This material also has an unusual appearance. It is quite often used in the manufacture of garden furniture. Furniture is woven from willow, so this species is suitable for making rocking chairs and decorating large items. |
Oak | This breed has good strength, so it is often used to create large structures: large wardrobes, beds. Despite these properties, oak lends itself better to processing, which has earned it particular popularity among craftsmen. It has excellent resistance to moisture and does not rot. Any structures made from such material are reliable and last for years. |
Beech | The properties of this material are similar to oak. The only difference is that it has less resistance to moisture, which is why furniture made from such wood should only be placed in a dry, ventilated room. |

Details that make all the difference
An important principle in interior design are individual elements. They have a functional and decorative meaning, allowing you to organize the space and bring home comfort to it. A mirror in an elegant frame, a console on long legs, shelves for books and a coffee table, a must for the living room, are the characteristics of a well-designed living space. They speak about the owner's taste and the character of his home.
Furniture and decorative items made from natural wood are always relevant. With proper care, they serve for a long time and properly, giving the living space a real “homey” look. Depending on the color scheme of the living room and its style, the color of the interior elements is also selected. Dark or light wood will harmoniously fit into any design you choose.
