Futuristic interior design and furniture “from the future”

Futurism in the interior

Interior design in the futurism style reveals the owner of the house as a progressive and out-of-the-box thinker. The term “futurism” itself has Latin roots and means “future”.

Futurism in the interior

Futurism originated at the beginning of the 20th century; at first this direction applied only to literature, but later it became in demand in interior design. The main idea of the style is to renounce traditional and classic methods of home decoration in favor of new, creative ideas.

Decor

There was practically no place for decor in this design option. It must be used very carefully and in minimal quantities - interiors are very minimalistic and extremely functional. There is no need for unnecessary details here. Decorative elements most often include lamps of unusual shapes and furniture of the same type. Other decorations will look like an alien detail in such a setting.

We decorate the interior in a futuristic style

Futuristic interior design welcomes the use of the latest materials and technologies. Ergonomics, functionality and maximum free space are important for style.

Interior design in this style involves asymmetry and multi-level ceilings of complex configuration. Windows, niches, doors, openings and even furniture are distinguished by unusual geometric shapes, and corners and walls receive smooth, rounded outlines.

The main changes that concern forms are laid down in advance, even at the stage of redevelopment.

Interior decoration

The style is considered universal. It looks organically in any room: kitchen, living room, bedroom, hallway, bathroom and even children's room. However, owners should prepare for expensive repairs, since the implementation of extraordinary ideas will require large investments. The decoration is dominated by artificial materials that look luxurious, but by no means cheap or primitive.

Materials and finishing

The design of the “box” of the room is dominated by plastic, glass, and chrome surfaces. The walls are covered with foil wallpaper or sheathed with PVC panels that imitate metal. A suspended ceiling hangs from above, the glossy surface of which is monochromatic, without drawings or patterns. In simpler versions, white, blue or gray plaster is used. The self-leveling floor is decorated with paintings with complex geometric patterns. These options are made to order. In some cases, the floor is covered with linoleum or decorated with rugs of unusual shapes with short pile. The tree will have to be abandoned completely. In this regard, style is categorical.

Color design

Accent colors are dominated by blue, light blue, purple, green, and red. All shades have a “cold” neon shine. A good option would be to highlight the color scheme with appropriate lighting. The main background is made of white, black or gray. They are neutral and go with any shade. The main principle of color combinations is the game of contrasts. Accents should be striking, but their balance is strictly regulated.

In bedrooms and kitchens, the effect is slightly muted with faded tones, since these rooms should maintain a calm atmosphere. A similar situation arises in small rooms, where the space cannot be overloaded, otherwise one of the principles of futurism will be violated—freedom in the premises. In the halls, hallways and bathrooms, contrasts are not restrained.

It is not recommended to use natural shades of wood in futuristic interiors: brown, sand, walnut. These colors will look organic only in retrofuturism. This direction reflects ideas that were popular in the last century. The ideas of the first ideologists of futurism about the present time are realized in the interiors.

Furniture

When choosing furniture, they are guided by its functionality. Sofas transform into beds, wardrobes into tables, and shelves into couches. The most unusual transformation options are welcome in a futuristic interior. Modern furniture with hanging structures without legs is relevant. Beds, chairs and tables “floating” in space will not only make cleaning the floors easier, but will also create the illusion of weightlessness. When choosing furnishings, they focus on extraordinary shapes that will highlight the features of the interior. Semicircular sofas, pouf balls, hollow inside chairs, wavy wall shelves, radial cabinets and coffee tables that look more like polished precious stones look organic.

Lighting

Lighting fixtures are placed on the ceiling, around the perimeter of the room, in decorative niches of furniture and walls, on tables and on the floor. Artificial light is considered as the main source. The lampshades of the devices have the same non-standard shapes as the furniture. Spring legs hold absolutely round or ellipsoidal “bowls”. Particular attention is paid to point sources of scattered light. They are placed in large quantities, and the glow is usually not standard white, but tinted to match the accent tones in specific areas of the room.

Decor

A minimum of decor is used in the setting. However, those details that are still present more than compensate for the lack of decorations with their originality. Graphic paintings or collages on the walls look futuristic. The room is filled with unusual clocks in the shape of DNA molecules, crystal lattices, pendulums, installations of atoms and air bubbles, compositions of wire spirals, glass balls on legs - all these incomprehensible, but beautiful in their own way, elements act as the main decor .

Finishes and materials

Organic glass, mirrors, plastic, metal are often used in futuristic interior decoration. When using the latest innovations in the construction market in interior decoration and styling, we should not forget about the environmental safety of the materials used.

That is why wood finishing is also relevant and is used mainly for the design of floors, which are decorated with parquet boards, parquet or laminate. The walls and ceiling are usually plastered and painted.

Lighting and furniture in futuristic interiors

Lighting devices are built into surfaces and multi-level lighting is installed. Instead of cotton bulbs there are LEDs and spot lighting. Examples:

  • chandelier in the shape of a ball, a flying saucer;

  • spherical lamps, randomly placed under the ceiling;
  • diodes built into the multi-level ceiling, creating the effect of a starry sky.

Furniture – the necessary remains. They do not install openwork tables for magazines or banquettes as an addition to the decor. Example:

  • a table combined with the wall decoration, as if flowing out of the partition;
  • a plastic chair that follows the shape of a rocking chair;
  • shelves, legs of objects - curved, convex;
  • bed – round or transformable into a sofa, table;
  • plastic chairs.

The requirements are lightness, weightlessness in every sense. Plastic and aluminum are quite light, so during renovations, fashionistas try to purchase curved, fancy, alloy or plastic objects.

Creating an attractive, thoughtful design without outside support is difficult. It is worth enlisting the support of the ArtRemont company team - professionals will develop a design project for the apartment, select furniture and finishing materials, and bring the project to life. Our designers have very few futuristic interiors in their collection, so if you are open to experimentation, we are waiting for you!

Color design

The color palette of the style is quite monochrome, based on shades of gray, beige, white and black. Bright accents will help diversify the design: red, orange, green, blue, purple - colors found in furniture upholstery, paintings and other few decorative elements.

Designer furniture

The more unusual the shape of the furniture, the more futuristic the interior looks.

The feeling that you are in the future is created not only by furniture, but also by other equipment. The TV must be wide and have thin edges. Countertops and tables must be smooth and have a reflective surface. The seats do not have the characteristic armrests. Instead, they may resemble eggs or appear as balls suspended from the ceiling.

You can also “play” with the shape of the ceiling. The more uneven it is, the better. Don't forget about LED lighting.

Likewise, sofas upholstered in shiny materials feature an uneven back line, enhancing the impression of three-dimensionality.

Style furniture

Furniture in a futuristic style is ergonomic, practical and functional. It has streamlined shapes, practical upholstery and chrome details. Such furniture is often made to order, but if it is not possible to order the manufacture of furniture according to your own design, then you can choose suitable options among standard furniture. Attention should be paid to minimalist, transformable and modular furniture.

Only the necessary items should be placed in the room: a sofa, armchairs, tables, chairs, a bed, a closet.

By what signs can you recognize futuristic interior design?

Futuristic design is difficult to confuse with other trends. This is a self-sufficient interior trend with its established canons, which is actively developing and acquiring new features.

Look at these rooms.

Does it really feel like you're inside a space shuttle? It seems that the windows are portholes, and behind them is open space.

In futuristic interiors, connections with nature are severed. There is basically no wood in the decoration - only plastic, plexiglass, chrome surfaces, 3D panels (read more about volumetric wall decor here).

At the same time, there is no feeling that the interior is cheap - on the contrary. Generally speaking, this style is quite expensive.

The lines are smooth, streamlined, rounded. Sometimes they are artificially broken. This is done in order to look inside the objects and evaluate their functionality.

Decor in a futuristic interior

The decor in such a laconic and progressive interior will be the latest multimedia devices and household appliances. Trinkets and “extra” decorations are inappropriate here, with the exception of a painting in the style of futurism, cubism or fauvism.

Characteristic features of a futuristic interior

Following the latest fashion trends, it is worth considering the features of futuristic design:

  • minimalism. This applies not only to figurines, vases, images, but also to large furniture - usually they hide it in niches or try not to block the space;
  • multifunctionality. Each item performs several functions - an armchair turns into a bed, an ottoman into a coffee table;
  • smooth lines. There are no sharp corners, smooth partitions. Replaced with smoothness and streamlining;

  • space, a spaceship - something that should be displayed in the surrounding space. The style repeats the main elements of ships from space odyssey movies and immerses you in the atmosphere of deep space;
  • do not use wood, mats, or wool. For finishing they use glass, plastic, polyurethane, metal, carbon. Wallpaper is replaced with paint, plastic lining, flooring - self-leveling, tiled, laminate;
  • decor - paintings with futuristic elements, cubism or favism;
  • gloss – reflective surfaces become the main detail;
  • technology – smart home technologies, the latest achievements of science.

Before the reconstruction begins, it is worth taking care of doorways - instead of rectangles, arches and rounded passages are installed.
