Wallpaper with a pattern: limitless design possibilities (34 photos)

What is this?

Self-adhesive wallpaper is a decorative finishing coating that has an adhesive base that is protected by film. People call it self-adhesive film. This finishing method allows you to avoid unnecessary costs for glue and carry out repairs yourself. Self-adhesive wallpaper is suitable not only for walls, but also for decorating objects and other surfaces.

Characteristics and Features

Self-adhesive wallpaper has a convenient protective film, which greatly simplifies the work and saves money on additional expenses. Before gluing it is simply removed. The coating is produced in different sizes, the width of the roll starts from 40 cm and can reach a meter. The length is usually standard 15 meters.

A positive feature of PVC coating is its good interaction with moisture, suitable for finishing a kitchen or toilet; the surface can be wiped with a damp cloth.

Types of patterns on wallpaper and features of its combination

Images on canvases can be divided into several types, which will differ not only in appearance, but also in the principle of working with them.

  • Monochrome pattern. This includes canvases without any image or pronounced pattern, for example, speckled, polka dotted, or with texture. It does not require joining of image elements, which means it will be easier to work with such canvases.
  • Abstract – broad strokes, stains, spots, often arranged in a chaotic manner. Such wallpaper usually does not require adjustment of the stripes.
  • Geometric – lines, squares, circles, diamonds, small and large. Most likely, a combination of elements will be required.
  • Strip. Vertical usually does not require adjustment; horizontal requires precise alignment.
  • Vegetable – leaves, stems, branches, flowers. As a rule, the pattern elements need to be adjusted.
  • Classic - monograms intertwined with each other and forming a single whole on the surface of the wall. Docking is required.
  • Ornamental - hieroglyphs, ornaments, motifs of Persian carpets, etc. The need for adjustment depends on the nature of the design.

Advantages and disadvantages

Self-adhesive wallpaper has many advantages over other types, but it is worth paying attention to some of the disadvantages of the coating.

prosMinuses
Can be used in the bathroom and kitchen due to the high moisture resistance of the materialUnevenness and defects in the walls will be noticeable on the PVC coating, so the surface must be fairly smooth and even.
Long service lifeSome types of self-adhesive wallpaper are expensive
Quick and easy interior renovation that even beginners can do
Wide range of models
Easy to keep in order, can be wet cleaned
There is no smell of glue, no need to ventilate the room after the wallpaper has dried

Choosing wallpapers with different types of patterns

An abstract drawing does not reflect any recognizable image. They do not have a holistic composition, but for some consumers this seems like an advantage, while others see this as a disadvantage. The main advantage is that you don’t need to adjust the rolls to the pattern when gluing wallpaper, so their consumption is minimal and they are economical. This design is preferred by creative individuals and incorrigible dreamers.

Geometric patterns are preferred by people with an analytical type of thinking - visual sliding along recognizable geometry provokes logical reasoning. On the contrary, people with a chaotic mindset who find it difficult to concentrate on one thing may find such wallpapers annoying.

Walls with geometric patterns require thoughtful interior design and symmetrical furniture placement. This is important to consider before gluing wallpaper with a pattern.

Striped wallpaper is specific; it is the same geometric wallpaper with parallel lines. Stripes can be quite neutral when they are not pronounced, serving as a background for floral patterns.

Wide stripes are difficult to correctly complement with furniture and decor to create a harmonious and cozy environment. Here, expert advice or photos of wallpaper with a pattern in the interior are preferable.

Floral ornament is the easiest to perceive, since it repeats natural lines and fragments of living nature. Their main “disadvantage” is that they look a little rustic and provincial, but they are not annoying and are suitable for most people without big ambitions.

This is probably why this niche has the greatest diversity. However, when wallpapering with a large pattern, you have to adjust the rolls, which entails additional costs. For the bedroom and kitchen, 1-2 additional rolls are enough, for the living room - 2-3 in reserve.

The classic pattern for wallpaper is graceful interlacing in the form of converging and diverging branches, forming subtle rhombuses. This pattern is suitable for most interiors. It looks quite noble in any color scheme, especially against the backdrop of rare stripes.

They also require matching patterns when gluing, so wallpaper is purchased with a reserve. This pattern is often made convex, adding volume with vinyl coating. The main drawback is that cats love them very much, preferring to sharpen their claws on the noble vinyl monograms.

Ethnic designs and oriental ornaments are a preference for interior design in oriental style. These are Arabic and Moroccan styles, Japanese and Chinese, Indian and African.

In this design one can discern bamboo and palm trees, hieroglyphs and Arabic script, motifs of carpets and African batik. Such wallpapers are often suitable for eco-style and Japanese minimalism.

Classification

All self-adhesive wallpaper can be divided into categories based on material, number of layers and type of design.

The main components in different wallpapers are: polyvinyl chloride, synthetic fiber, propylene, which are supplemented with stabilizers and plasticizers. Color and texture are provided by dyes and artificial fibers of the fabric.

Types by number of layers

Self-adhesive wallpaper is distinguished by the number of layers.

  • Single layer. Single-layer self-adhesive wallpaper, otherwise known as PVC film, has a complex multi-component composition, including PVC resin, plasticizers, stabilizers and pigments. All components combine and form a homogeneous mass. After which the process of transformation directly into film takes place through heat treatment or extrusion. The result is a self-adhesive, moisture-proof film.
  • Double layer. Double-layer self-adhesive wallpaper consists of a base and a top layer. Paper and fabric are most often used as a base. The top layer has a complex composition based on polyvinyl chloride resin. The resulting material is inferior in technical characteristics to single-layer PVC film, but is more flexible and easier to work with.

Types by material

In all types, the base is an adhesive layer, but the decorative part, that is, the top coating, can be different.

Vinyl

Durable and washable self-adhesive fabric is available in stores in a variety of colors. The production features almost completely deprive the material of the ability to pass air, so in a room with high humidity it is worth taking care of ventilation. The advantages of the coating include low cost.

Paper

Paper is an environmentally friendly and inexpensive material, but, unfortunately, it does not have high technical characteristics. The coating fades in the sun, is not resistant to moisture and has low wear resistance.

Cork

Cork self-adhesive coating has an absolutely natural composition and is made directly from cork wood, which means it is safe for all residents of the house. The material is hypoallergenic, has good sound insulation properties and retains heat.

To decorate the kitchen, you should choose a canvas coated with wax; it protects against the absorption of odors, increases its service life and simplifies the cleaning process. Self-adhesive cork wallpaper will be a good solution for decorating a child's room; you can use it to create a whole shaped composition.

Fabric

In other words, satin self-adhesive wallpaper has a dense fabric base. Externally, the coating is matte, reminiscent of fabric. The material has high strength indicators and hides minor wall defects.

Types by type of coating

Matte

The surface has a velvety appearance, the walls do not reflect light or glare, and the interior is very soft. The matte self-adhesive coating is suitable for modern and classic designs. Drops of water and stains are invisible on them.

Glossy

Glossy self-adhesive wallpaper will help make the room brighter and lighter due to the reflective properties of the film. This finish is suitable for decorating a room with poor lighting. The coating requires careful care, as settling dust and drops of water will be visible on the shiny surface.

Cretaceous

A great idea for decorating the interior of a children's room, hallway or kitchen. Otherwise, chalk self-adhesive wallpaper can be called a painting surface; visually it resembles a black slate board. You can draw on the surface with crayons and then erase it. For a children's room or cute notes in the kitchen, this type of self-adhesive wallpaper will be the best option.

In the photo, the decor of the wall above the headboard is made using chalk wallpaper, which is convenient for taking notes before bed.

Holographic

Self-adhesive wallpaper with a 3D holographic effect will look good in a stylish and modern interior. Shiny film is best used for partial decoration of a room or individual objects.

Mirror

Self-adhesive wallpaper with a mirror effect will look harmonious as part of the decor or as a complete decoration of an accent wall. The surface will reflect objects, thereby creating the illusion of even more space, and the patterns applied to the canvas will not make the design vulgar.

Which wallpaper to choose for a room with low ceilings

Wallpapering an apartment with low ceilings is not a problem. Modern design solutions and technologies allow you to visually hide all the shortcomings of the room, making the space more voluminous and comfortable.

Even more professional tips for correctly applying wallpaper to the ceiling can be found in the following article:

What to emphasize:

  • Finishing ceiling material. A good solution would be glossy wallpaper, a suspended ceiling or a mirror. Due to the reflective coating, the height of the room will visually increase. The illusion fully compensates for the lack of wall height.
  • Color palette. The winning ceiling option would be light, cool shades of white-gray, pearl, and light blue.
  • Interior items. In the case of low ceilings, surfaces and objects in the room in blue and green colors will help to visually enhance the space.

To illuminate the ceiling, it is better to choose spotlights. And along the main wall or along the entire perimeter, place several sconces with lampshades facing up.

Walls in rooms with low ceilings should be rationally decorated with brighter colors. It is possible to use trellises with a narrow vertical stripe.

Photos in the interior of the rooms

For kitchen

For the kitchen, self-adhesive wallpaper is easy to maintain; if PVC film is chosen as the finishing material, it can be wiped with a damp cloth without fear of stains and other contaminants. Self-adhesive wallpaper can become part of the decor, decorating only part of the wall or an apron.

The photo shows an example of kitchen wall decor using self-adhesive transparent wallpaper with inscriptions.

For children's

Self-adhesive wallpaper makes it possible to make a child's room more interesting without much expense. Chalk film deserves special attention. Parents don’t have to worry about the renovation they’ve just made, and children can splash out their creative ideas right on the wall. Cork looks interesting; you can cut out any shapes from it and stick it directly on the wall, without worrying about the environmental friendliness of the material.

The photo shows an example of wall decor in a girl’s nursery. The interior can be easily changed using self-adhesive wallpaper.

For the living room

All of the above types of self-adhesive wallpaper are suitable for the hall; here the desired style in the room will play a decisive role in the choice of covering. The eco theme will continue with cork wallpaper, the Scandinavian design will be decorated with chalk canvas or minimalist patterns, and for high-tech you can choose holography or gloss.

In the corridor, hallway

The hallway can be decorated with stone or brick wallpaper. Creating such a design will not require much physical effort, and the result will delight guests and residents of the house.

In a small corridor, you can use several techniques to increase space, for example, self-adhesive photo wallpaper with a perspective pattern, as well as glossy or mirror surfaces. The overall “picture” will change favorably, without requiring large expenses.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, you can use self-adhesive film to cover the space above the headboard. A pastel color palette is suitable here.

For bathroom

A good way to customize your bathroom design. Self-adhesive wallpaper is not suitable for finishing the shower area, but it will do its job perfectly in the rest of the area. When choosing vinyl coverings, you must remember about preliminary antifungal treatment and good ventilation.

In the toilet

Self-adhesive wallpaper allows you to make repairs in the toilet quickly and with your own hands, and a coating with photo printing will profitably increase the space. It must be remembered that some types of wallpaper do not breathe, which means you need to take care of ventilation.

Selecting the type of wallpaper depending on the room

Living room

Textile or fabric wallpaper is best suited for the living room. Bamboo and liquid wallpaper will also look good.

Bedroom

Natural wallpaper, interlining or fabric look great on the wall in a bedroom design. Read our article on how to choose wallpaper for your bedroom!

Wallpaper for the bedroom:

Find out what trends in bedroom design will be relevant in 2017.

Children's

In the nursery, it is best to use paper wallpaper. They can be changed along with the development of the child, without fear that he will spoil them... Children's wallpaper should be pastel colors.

Kitchen

Fiberglass and vinyl will be the best assistants for kitchen walls. They are moisture resistant and durable.

Hallway

Vinyl and glass wallpaper will help extend the life of your hallway; they are reliable and durable. Natural wallpaper - bamboo - will also look good.

Design ideas and drawings

Under the tree

Natural themes have firmly established their position in modern design trends. Natural wood is not a cheap pleasure, although it has many undeniable advantages. Self-adhesive wallpaper can convey the pattern of a wooden board with the smallest details, while finishing does not take much time and money.

Under the brick

Brickwork is a frequently used decoration method in modern design. Externally, brick looks attractive and is suitable for decorating different styles. To save space, you can use Roman brick, which has a small thickness, or wallpaper with imitation brickwork.

Flowers

There are an incredible variety of options for depicting flowers. The picture can be romantic and delicate, for example, in the form of a small floral pattern or a photo print of white chrysanthemums or peonies. A different atmosphere is created by blooming scarlet roses or lilies on a dark background.

Nature

Natural motifs have a surprising effect on a person’s psychological state; a picture can calm or lift one’s spirits. A photograph of cherry blossoms creates a romantic mood, a bamboo forest charges you with positive energy, and “curly” clouds give you a feeling of freedom.

Marble

Real natural marble will require significant purchase and installation costs. Imitating stone using wallpaper will greatly simplify the task, while maintaining all the charm of marble.

Under the skin

Imitation leather will undoubtedly differ from regular colors and patterns. Visual effects can be different, crocodile or snake skin will look very stylish, a smooth surface with drapery can decorate a high-tech interior or other modern interiors.

Rear photo wallpaper

A colorful way to decorate the interior. 3D photo wallpaper turns an ordinary picture into a realistic image, creating the illusion of immersion in the picture. Photo wallpapers are suitable for decorating any room, but they look especially good in a nursery.

Ornament, patterns

Multi-colored ornaments and patterns are suitable for decorating a kitchen, hallway or bathroom.

In the kitchen

This use of wallpaper is an unusual, but amazingly winning move. Here we see the absence of upper cabinets in the kitchen - instead, there is only an open shelf that divides the wall into two parts: the lower part, as it should be above the work surface, is finished with the usual tiles, while the upper part is covered with wallpaper with a dynamic floral print. By the way, the trend of abandoning the top row of kitchen cabinets in favor of open shelves is increasingly becoming fashionable. This technique helps make the space more airy and uncluttered (unless, of course, you load these shelves to the ceiling with pots).

If you are still not ready for such a progressive step, maybe you will like the idea that I already mentioned a little higher. I mean wallpapering the back wall with an ornament, in this case a glass cabinet. This technique works especially well with painted cabinets. White cups and plates look great against the backdrop of bright wallpaper.

Color options

Like ordinary wallpaper for walls, self-adhesive wallpaper is available in different colors and shades, with texture, patterns and designs. This or that choice depends on the size of the room and its lighting purpose. The chosen color can become a bright accent, or complement the overall color scheme of the room.

Universal colors include white, beige and its derivatives, gray. To add bright colors, a green, crimson or orange pattern is suitable.

White

White color will never go out of fashion and will always be relevant. In addition to a simple flat surface, white wallpaper can have an interesting pattern, for example in the form of crumpled paper or other imitation of texture. It is worth noting that white coatings require careful preparation of the surface, otherwise unevenness and stains on the walls will be visible.

Black

The bold tone will work well as accents, such as patterns or stripes of chalk wallpaper. In the interior, it is better to combine black with lighter shades, otherwise the room will turn out to be too gloomy and dark.

Purple

The color purple has many shades. A light purple tone will look gentle and will decorate a classic and modern room. Dark, deep tones are more suitable for a stylish design and make it look luxurious.

Is it possible to glue luminous wallpaper to the ceiling?

Glowing wallpaper on the ceiling is an original and modern novelty from designers. This wallpaper is perfect for a child's room, bedroom or living room.

Glowing fights come in 3 types:

  • Silver. Silver threads are added to the composition of such wallpaper; they play the role of lighting conductors, which can be controlled remotely. Such wallpaper looks very expensive and elegant.
  • Fluorescent. A distinctive feature of this luminous wallpaper in the picture. This three-dimensional format makes the image realistic and alive.
  • Phosphorous. The best option for a children's room, thanks, in some way, to the sloppiness of the design. It is applied to the canvas by mixing phosphor with acrylic paint.

Glowing wallpaper in daylight doesn't really stand out. But in the dark they obediently flicker with a romantic light. Such wallpaper will look more impressive in a spacious room with high ceilings.

This type of wallpaper is not cheap, so consciously choose successful compositions that are pleasing to the eye.

Non-standard use of self-adhesive wallpaper

On the door

An old, well-worn door will look like new. The surface of the door must be cleaned and, if necessary, sanded, otherwise the film will “indicate” unevenness. This is an easy way to refine a doorway and change its appearance to suit the design of the room.

For furniture

A budget option for restoring furniture. A table, wardrobe or wardrobe will quickly change its appearance. The presented colors can make the furniture a bright piece of decor or simply update it.

For the ceiling

Photo wallpaper will look especially impressive on the ceiling. The image can create the illusion of open space, thereby radically changing the interior. It can also be a glossy or mirror self-adhesive fabric, a good alternative to a stretch ceiling and especially whitewash, but you will first need to level the surface, otherwise the desired effect will be ruined.

The photo shows an example of an interior where a bright ceiling is combined with plain walls.

For window sills

An ordinary self-adhesive PVC film will help you quickly update your window sill; by cutting it to the required size, you can return the window sill to its whiteness and smooth surface or create a bright design element.

For refrigerator

The refrigerator will become a real art object in the kitchen. A retro pattern or photo print will turn an old refrigerator into the main accent of the room. For decoration, a single-layer self-adhesive PVC film will be sufficient.

Design methods

If you correctly combine prints with the overall design of the room, you can set the color scheme for the interior and add something new to it.

Drawing

There are a huge number of patterns and designs.

Imitation of various surfaces

Interior decoration with imitation wallpaper is more economical and less energy-consuming. At the same time, they are no worse than their analogues; they are able to decorate a room and give an unusual and attractive look.

Stone

If you want to decorate a room effectively and brightly, imitation stone will be the best choice.

Tree

Depending on the chosen style and purpose of the room, various imitation options are used for decoration: boards, logs, beams, cut wood or stacks of firewood.

The photo shows a bedroom interior with a wall decorated with imitation wood wallpaper.

Brick

Wallpaper that looks like brick is indistinguishable from real brickwork. This design option is one of the simplest ways to change perception and transform the environment.

Leather

Leather-look wallpapers are distinguished by very high realism, not only in appearance, but also in tactility.

Plaster

Imitation plaster is often used to create decorative accents. Their relief surface in combination with ceiling stucco creates an atmosphere of aristocracy and ancient furnishings.

Concrete

They have the most realistic texture. They create a feeling of slight negligence in the interior and serve as a perfect backdrop for the entire decor.

The photo shows a bedroom with wallpaper imitating a concrete surface.

Bamboo

They bring real natural freshness to the room and become an excellent central accent in rooms with a modern or ethnic interior. Full photo selection of bamboo wallpapers here.

Textile

The use of fabric imitation is more typical for a modern style. For example, a little casual denim will look harmonious in a teenager’s room, studio apartment or living room.

With inscriptions, quotes and letters

Calligraphic inscriptions in English look best. Also an excellent solution would be wallpaper with the effect of old paper, black wallpaper with white inscriptions or hieroglyphs, with text from newspaper clippings and magazines or phrases from films and books.

The photo shows the interior of the living room and a wall with black wallpaper and white inscriptions.

Geometric pattern

Using this design option, you can decorate the interior in almost any style. The main thing is to choose the right saturation of the picture, its volume and brightness.

Abstraction

With this pattern design you will be able to create a truly unique and inimitable style. Attractive in its originality, as well as in its imagery of perception.

Striped

Wall coverings with such a symmetrical print are often used to highlight openings or zoning spaces. Sometimes they are combined with canvases with drawings. See more photos of striped wallpaper here.

Cell

Thanks to the restraint and severity of the checkered pattern, comfortable and warm interiors are obtained. Large, small or Scottish checks can create a respectable and luxurious room.

The photo shows a country-style living room with checkered wallpaper on the walls.

Squares

An example of classic wall decoration. Alternating black and white squares allows you to visually structure the space without narrowing it.

Zigzag

Quite a dynamic and effective repeating pattern. Emphasizes the solemnity and colorfulness of the interior. Bright designs of this type are used in children's rooms or play areas.

The photo shows a children's room and white and blue wallpaper with a zigzag print.

In wave form

Soft, refined and smoother wave patterns make the room more cozy and relaxing and do not deprive the room of interesting accents.

Circles

This design is one of the main modern trends in the world of interior design. Large circles, despite their apparent simplicity, look quite impressive.

Rhombus

Used for the design of spacious rooms. A small diamond will create an energetic, cheerful and bright atmosphere in the room.

Hexagon

Using a geometric hexagon that looks like a honeycomb, it’s a great way to refresh an existing interior design.

Triangle

This print creates a clear structure of space. It is especially successful to use such a pattern in rooms where there is a lot of furniture and accessories.

Dotted

Tenderness, lightness and coquetry. This pattern is perfect for interiors where you want to relax and unwind.

The photo shows the bedroom interior and a wall decorated with green polka dot wallpaper.

In graffiti style

The many-sided finishing method suits almost any style. Anime characters, cats, inscriptions, hearts and monograms are popular among girls. For a boy, robots, comic book characters, and sketches on sports or space themes are more appropriate.

In the form of newspapers

Bright and catchy paper wallpaper with newspaper headlines or brand names will create an original design, while aged paper will add a romantic and somewhat nostalgic atmosphere.

Books on the shelves

This type of design can place shelving with bookshelves into the interior and create your own home library.

The photo shows a living room with a wall decorated with wallpaper depicting books on the shelves.

With the birds

Images of birds on wallpaper or patterns with feathers make the room light, weightless and voluminous, encouraging freedom of choice and dreams of travel.

Nature, animals, vegetation

Options with trees in the forest refresh the atmosphere and bring a feeling of pleasant coolness to it. Butterflies on the canvases symbolize natural beauty. A colorful photo panel with leopard print plunges you into the world of safari. Drawings with cacti will evoke Mexican motifs in the design of the room. A tangle of banana leaves and vines calls and beckons you into the jungle. Images of various types of animals, such as a lion, zebra, fox or wolf will always find their place in the interior and will undoubtedly decorate the walls of the home.

Floral print

This pattern does not overload the space and looks great in combination with any furniture and accessories. For example, using a watercolor effect or subtle floral patterns will create a light and airy mood. See more photos of wallpaper with flowers here.

Cityscapes

Wallpaper with a perspective image deepens the space, for example it could be a road stretching into the distance. A night city or a bridge with a huge number of light bulbs will also help to expand the room and bring ultra-modernity.

The photo shows the interior of a teenager’s room and a photo wallpaper depicting a city at night.

In the form of a map

This design goes well with the decor in a study or children's room. The sea map will create an atmosphere in the spirit of adventurers.

The photo shows an office decorated with map-shaped wallpaper.

Glowing

Phosphorus patterns look unusual and beautiful; in the dark, they emit an unobtrusive, subdued light, which allows you to relax and have a pleasant evening.

Shiny

Wallpaper with glitter, thanks to its reflective effect, easily creates an accent on the walls. And the reflective particles shimmer and shine pleasantly when exposed to sunlight. This effect will make the room interesting and mysterious.

The photo shows shiny liquid wallpaper with glitter added.

Stories and fragments from games, films, cartoons

A win-win decorative design technique that is often used for children's rooms. This unusual solution breaks the predictability of the usual interior and makes it modern. For girls, images of princesses or fairies from cartoons are suitable. For a teenage boy: Star Wars, Marvel superheroes or computer games: tanks and GTA.

Technique

Images of ships at sea are very stylish and help to add individual charisma to the room. Having cars or planes is an ideal combination for men of any age.

Sports theme

This design is chosen by many active and energetic people. For example, for passionate football fans, a wall with themed wallpaper will do the job perfectly. Often used to decorate boys' rooms.

Patterns and ornaments

They bring liveliness to the interior and create a mood. Interesting patterns make you want to unravel them and look closely at the details.

Damascus

A very popular royal pattern, symbolizing luxury and elegant taste of the room in which it is used.

The photo shows the interior of the dining room and green wallpaper with a damask pattern on the wall.

Monograms

These alternating patterns resemble stylized flowers with distinctive shapes like a diamond, an inverted teardrop, or an oval. They are used in almost any style, including more modern ones. See more photos of wallpaper with monograms here.

Lace

Emphasizes individual style and creates a comfortable environment filled with friendliness and aristocracy.

Openwork pattern

Filigree and elegant lace patterns will complement a modern interior, making the design stylish and original, and the angular shapes of furniture and decor softer.

Gzhel

An original, contrasting and bright design depicting flowers, berries and leaves, made in blue and white colors, belongs to the type of Russian folk painting.

The photo shows a kitchen in light colors with walls decorated with wallpaper with a Gzhel pattern.

Herringbone

Plain wallpaper for painting without a distinct pattern. They are stylistically neutral and are therefore used in both classic and modern styles.

Cobweb

It got its name because of its resemblance to a spider's web. These paintable canvases are an excellent option for finishing the decoration of a room.

Gozhka

Gives the room a special flavor. When painting, its special texture is filled with paint and makes the material denser, creating volume.

Paisley pattern

These almond-shaped designs are shrouded in mysteries, so bedrooms, living rooms, and children's rooms are decorated with canvases with cucumber patterns. They create an atmosphere of mystery and wealth.

Floral pattern

Floral ornaments and curls will never lose their relevance. Suitable for many styles, for example, small fern leaves are suitable for a country style, and a large floral pattern will perfectly decorate an interior in a classic, modern or English style.

Combination

Many options and combinations are used to divide, expand the space and give the room a fantastic look.

View a selection of photos about combining wallpaper.

Decor

Stickers, wallpaper inserts, frames and borders are great design options for creative people who are still looking for a style direction or the right wall decor for their home.

Panel

If you correctly place a decorative panel with tapestry patterns, it will emphasize the overall design of the room, become an interesting accent and breathe new life into any, even the most boring interior.

Painting

The most optimal finishing option. Such fiberglass relief canvases open up enormous possibilities for creativity. Any materials are used for coloring to achieve the desired effect. See more photos of wallpaper for painting here.

rear wallpaper

Decorative design of a room, which allows you not only to decorate the walls, but also to create the illusion of reality in the room.

Painting reproductions

This design option is especially suitable for creative people who are not afraid to experiment. For example, reproductions of paintings by the famous Dutch painter Van Gogh have long inspired designers to create unique wallpaper with a craquelure effect that can emphasize the individual style of a room.

How to glue correctly?

Surface preparation

The key to a successful result is a well-prepared surface. This can be drywall, tiles, plywood, furniture, plastic or ordinary walls. If the coating is applied to a wall or ceiling, it must be leveled with plaster, uneven surfaces removed and primed. If the object of decoration is furniture, a door or a window sill, then they need to be sanded, cleaned and degreased if necessary.

Step-by-step gluing instructions

The gluing process is not much different from ordinary wallpaper. When working, the component in the form of glue is eliminated, which greatly simplifies the process.

  • As already mentioned, the surface needs to be prepared for work. Old wallpaper is removed from the walls, leveled and primed.
  • If wallpaper is applied to the wall, it is worth making markings for even application.
  • The protective film is removed gradually as it is glued, several centimeters at a time.
  • The canvas is glued from top to bottom and smoothed with a roller or plastic spatula.
  • Trapped air bubbles are removed by puncturing the needle.

Video

Features of gluing on non-standard surfaces

In order to “revive” pieces of furniture, doors or ceilings, no special knowledge or special efforts are required; accuracy and attentiveness are quite enough.

  • If the surface has been previously painted, it must be sanded.
  • Carry out surface treatment. Prime or degrease.
  • Self-adhesive wallpaper often has markings on the back side, so cutting an even piece will be easy.
  • The canvas is glued, gradually removing the protective film.
  • Air bubbles are removed with a needle.

Video

Methods for removing self-adhesive wallpaper from surfaces

Peeling off the self-adhesive is quite difficult due to its strong adhesion. But if there is a need to change the interior, then you can use the heating method with a torch or an industrial hair dryer. After thermal exposure, the wallpaper can be easily removed with a spatula from any surface. Experts also use the method of chemical soaking using acids, which, when combined with PVC, can have a detrimental effect on walls and human lungs. Some types of self-adhesives can be removed using water and gradually pulling off the corners.

Patterned Wallpaper Design - Modern Ideas

You can create a pattern on the wallpaper with your own hands. However, not all types of wallpaper are suitable for this; there are wallpapers made specifically for painting from special materials.

If the design is planned to be applied to painted wallpaper, then it must be completely dry to avoid blurring of the paint.

It is better to choose water-based paint; it has a light texture and can be mixed with other shades to obtain the desired color.

If the patterns are complex and you have little artistic ability, you can use either a stencil or stickers.

Calculation with drawing adjustment

Wallpaper with complex or large patterns requires adjustment, so the calculation will be different. The length of the strip must exceed the height of the room and be a multiple of the repeat (pattern step).

Let's analyze the calculation procedure for the same room (perimeter - 18 m, ceiling height - 2.5 m). Roll width – 53 cm, length – 10 m, repeat – 38 cm.

  • The strip length is calculated as follows. Divide the height of the room by the rapport value (2.5: 0.38 = 6.6). Round the resulting number up to the nearest whole number. In our case it will be 7. We multiply the image pitch value by the resulting number (0.38 × 7 = 2.66 m). Now we divide the length of the roll by the existing result (10: 2.66 = 3.8). Round to the nearest whole number, but downwards. It turns out that the roll is enough for 3 cuts, the rest is forced losses.
  • Next, we calculate the number of tubes. First, we find the number of strips; to do this, we divide the perimeter by the width of the roll, as in the first case (18: 0.53 = 34, rounded). Now we divide the resulting value by the number of stripes in the tube (34: 3 = 12, rounded). Our room will require 12 rolls.

USEFUL INFORMATION: Puttying wall corners

As you can see, the difference between the number of wallpapers with a pattern without matching and an image that requires adjustment is as much as 3 tubes.

With pattern selection without offset

In this case, everything is no longer so simple. Let's take the ceiling height as an example - 250 cm. Next, we determine the step of the pattern, for example, 54 cm. All stripes should start the same. This means that you need the smallest multiple of the drawing pitch, for example, 54 cm, and the height of the room (250 cm). Four steps of the drawing will be: 4 × 54 = 216 cm - this is not enough for a whole sheet. This means we take 5 steps: 5×54=270 cm. Thus, you need to cut strips of wallpaper 270 cm long.
