Homemade hanging swing in the doorway for kids

Varieties of design

Swings can be suspended or floor-mounted, depending on the method of their installation in the room.

If you follow the usual logic, then you need to hang lighter models from the ceiling, and install large and solid ones as a floor structure.

But for the designer, everything unexpected is an interesting technique that makes the interior more original and attractive.

So you may well see, even in your friends’ small living room, a whole bed with pillows suspended from the ceiling, or a light board attached to the posts with strong ropes.

What materials are needed to make a swing?

In this article we will not discuss issues such as installing pillars, concreting their bases, or adjusting the crossbar. There are many different variations here. Some use nearby trees, others just a thick branch. All this is strictly individual. In addition, we are not talking about a simple plank that hangs on a rope. Our goal will be to make a wooden swing that a child aged 1-3 years cannot fall out of. For older children, a simpler design is also suitable, but we will be making a product for kids.

Let's see what needs to be prepared.

1.

Plywood that will act as a seat:

In case there is no plywood, it can be replaced with slats. This will make the work a little more complicated, but sometimes this is a completely normal way out. I just used this option.

5 pieces with dimensions 35 x 3 x 2, and 2 pieces with dimensions 30 x 3 x 2; 10 screws are required to secure the structure.

Next, you need to stock up on 10 small blocks. We will place them between the seat and the bars. They are needed so that the crossbars are at a certain height so that the child does not fall out of the swing.

Dimensions: 5 x 2.5 x 2.5

Over time, as the child grows up, the number of blocks must be increased in order to raise the restrictive bars. So you can immediately make them with a reserve: not 10, but, for example, 14 pieces.

The tools you will need are a wood saw, a drill, a drill with a diameter of about 1 cm (according to the cross-section of the rope), sandpaper - coarse for rough and fine for final processing. If desired, the finished swing can be painted later.

How to hang a hanging swing for an apartment

A swing in an apartment can be placed in several ways; there are many types of this piece of furniture on sale:

  • it could be a hammock version, reminiscent of a garden structure;
  • a simple seat made of wood and laces;
  • hanging wicker swing chairs for apartments made of rattan or technorattan;
  • plastic hanging chair egg;
  • various designer chairs and swings.

Thus, you can freely choose and buy a swing for your apartment from the many options offered in stores or make a swing for your apartment with your own hands, which will fully match the style of your apartment or house and your needs.

What you need to make a hanging rope swing

Before you make a rope ride with your own hands, you need to think about how to attach it. Typically, carabiners, springs, and eye bolts are used for such swings. The choice of fastening units depends on the location of suspension, type of support, and expected load. For example, if the support is a tree branch, it is optimal to use carabiners. It is more convenient to hang the swing with eye bolts from a metal or wooden crossbar specially made by yourself. The spring can be used indoors, but it will withstand a small load. This knot is designed for children's swings on ropes, most often factory-made.

Important! A rope swing can simply be tied to a tree branch or crossbar. However, when swinging, friction occurs in the ropes, which affects their rapid wear.

Other hanging materials will require strong rope. The length depends on the height of the support. Usually 7 m of rope is enough for a swing. The material for the seat depends on its design. If you decide to make a swing from a rope and a board, then, naturally, you need a piece of processed lumber 60 cm long, 20 cm wide, 5 cm thick. For the circle you will need a metal hoop. Making a bed with your own hands will require the preparation of pallets, lumber or wicker for weaving the base.

In addition to the suspension unit to the support, it is important to consider attaching the rope swing to the seat itself. You can simply tie it with ropes, use the same carabiners or eye bolts.

Design

You can complement this wonderful swing with stylish pillows made of textiles and fur. Hanging swings have different designs and shapes, ranging from round and oval models to hammock-like chairs with a very unusual exotic shape.

The base of a hanging chair can be made of wood, plastic, iron and special materials that can withstand heavy loads, but at the same time allow you to create flexible, beautiful shapes.

Swing base

A swing starts with a base, which can be very diverse. The easiest option is to buy a ready-made swing, which you just need to secure. Another option is to make a wooden seat with your own hands. For older children, you can use just one board, which will act as a seat. For younger children, such a seat will be dangerous, so a frame is needed for the child to hold on to. To create a frame, you can use round wooden slats or timber 2-3 cm wide. It is important to sand the wood well so that the child does not injure himself.

Also, the swing can be made of fabric. Moreover, this can be either a model without a frame, similar to a hammock, or a model with a wooden square base on which a fabric basket for a child will be held. It is important to provide holes for the child’s legs in this model so that he can swing comfortably. Such swings are most often used for children under 5 years old.

Place for a hanging chair

It is important to choose the right place for such a suspended swing, since not all types of ceilings are suitable for such mounting. The main thing in this matter is safety! Remember that you can only mount a hanging chair to the ceiling if it has a solid concrete base into which you can attach the mounting bracket.

If you do not have the opportunity to mount a hanging swing to the ceiling, you can buy a special floor mount that has a hook to which the swing is attached.

How to properly hang a children's swing in a doorway

I would like to draw your attention to the peculiarity of hanging a swing at home. To do this, you can purchase special hook screws:

The fact that the hook is screwed not into the top strip of the door frame, but into the side one, has a special meaning.

Firstly, the top strip of the door frame may not be securely fastened and will simply fly out of its place during swinging. Again, I don’t even want to think about the consequences. Not only will the baby fall to the floor, but a heavy piece of wood may hit him on the head.

Secondly, even if the top bar of the door frame is securely fastened, the side fastening of the hooks eliminates the possibility of lateral swinging and injury to the baby’s hands on the door jamb. The swing hangs, as it were, on a tripwire in the doorway, and during the swing it “shuffles” against the jamb - for this you need to make a special effort. In a normal situation this will not happen:

And one more important point. To prevent the rope from moving back and forth on the hooks while swinging, it is worth tying knots on it not far from the hooks:

This way you fix the length of the “front” and “back” ropes. This prevents unauthorized and unexpected tilting of the seat forward and backward for the baby.

Hanging chair: design options and materials used

It is not without reason that the second name for a hanging chair is a “hanging swing chair”.

The ability to swing in different directions and spin around its axis will allow an adult to remember his childhood, sitting comfortably in a piece of “ground-to-air” furniture.

The name speaks for itself - a hanging chair is a cocoon, mini-hammock or ball made of rattan, wicker or modern materials such as plastic, acrylic or polyurethane, suspended from the ceiling or beam using a chain, rope or other type of fastening.

First of all, all hanging chairs are classified according to the material they are made of. A swing chair, being a combination of a hammock and a rocking chair, can be made from:

  • vines;
  • rattan (natural or artificial);
  • plastic;
  • acrylic;
  • wood;
  • metal rods;
  • fabrics;
  • They are a combined product made from various materials.

In addition to the method and material of execution, hanging chairs differ in the maximum weight that the structure can support. For each specific model, you need to find out the upper weight limit - some chairs are designed to weigh no more than 100 kg, others can withstand a load of 150 kg.

It all depends on the material, size and shape of the swing chair.

But the main difference between hanging chairs is related to their design. Globally, all existing models of chairs are derivatives of the 2 most famous models. The first, the Egg chair, was invented in 1957 by a designer from Denmark. Many modern models of hanging swings are variations on the “egg” theme in one modification or another.

A comfortable position in an ergonomic chair has become a symbol of relaxation and creating the most comfortable relaxation area in any room.

The second no less famous design of the Bubble hanging chair (soap bubble) was invented in Finland a little later, in 1968.

If the Egg swing chair is constantly undergoing changes and modifications, then the “bubble chair” is produced in its original appearance, the changes concern only increasing the strength of the material and some decoration of the product - there is a backlit model, a pattern can be applied to the transparent surface of the “bubble”, engraving or photo printing.

Any model of hanging chair is equipped with soft inserts, pillows or bolsters for more comfortable placement.

Models are sold with ready-made soft inserts, or you can purchase a chair and create the internal filling yourself (for example, make a soft seat to match the color of decorative sofa pillows or any other textiles in the interior).

Models made of rattan and wicker have a fairly rigid body, hold their shape well and meet ergonomic requirements.

Most often, such models look like a cocoon, as if enveloping the person sitting in it. This model creates a special mood for anyone who sits comfortably inside. Solitude, security and relaxation are feelings that are so necessary in the modern dynamic world.

Textile models are more reminiscent of hammocks, only in more compact variations. A hanging chair that looks like a hammock will become an organic part of the interior, decorated in one of the varieties of country style - from Mediterranean to Provence.

A bubble chair with a rigid frame, either plastic or acrylic, will fit perfectly into any of the trends of modern style. High-tech, loft, contemporary and industrial styles can also benefit from the presence of a swing chair made of transparent plastic in the interior.

Options for mounting a swing in a doorway

You can secure a swing or jumping jacks in a doorway provided that:

  1. The door frame is made of solid wood;
  2. The box is installed in a permanent partition.

If it is a light MDF door in a plasterboard partition without a reinforcing frame around the perimeter of the opening, the fastening will be unreliable and unsafe.

If you are sure that the materials that make up the opening are strong and reliable, you have three options for hanging a swing in it: to the top crossbar, to the side posts or to the horizontal bar.

Option with horizontal bar

A horizontal bar without a swing is a very useful device. And quite often it is installed just in the doorway. You can easily hang any swing on it, equipping it with rings or carabiners if necessary.

Note! Do not hang the swing on a telescopic sliding horizontal bar installed at random. When swinging, it can change its linear dimensions downward and fall.

For this purpose, choose horizontal bars with a stationary fastening or make them yourself using a durable crossbar and side fastenings.

For the crossbar, choose a metal pipe with a diameter of about 3 cm with thick walls (at least 3 mm).

Advice. Chrome-plated furniture pipes are not suitable for this purpose. They are thin-walled and may not withstand the load.

The crossbar can be installed in special rod holders screwed to the door frame. They can be closed or open, attached to a vertical or horizontal plane.

You can do without brackets and holders. Below are instructions on how to make a swing bar from steel water pipe. Its initial length should be 4-6 cm greater than the width of the opening.

2.To make it comfortable for your child to sit on the swing, prepare a sheet of foam rubber with the same dimensions as the seat. Select the thickness according to the situation.
3.We will need three cross bars. Dimensions: 35 x 2.5 x 1.7.
4.and two longitudinal ones. Dimensions: 30 x 2.5 x 1.7.
5.
6.Finally, we need a strong rope with a sufficient cross-section. We will hang the finished swing on it. It also wouldn’t hurt to have a piece of fabric to cover the foam rubber and give the product a finished look.
ImageDescription
At the ends of the pipe, use a grinder or a hacksaw to make four slots 2-3 cm deep at equal distances from each other. The length of the pipe between the slots should be equal to the width of the doorway at the installation site.
Trim the two opposite petals, leaving only the other two.
In the remaining petals, drill holes according to the diameter of the mounting bolts.
Bend the petals with mounting holes perpendicular to the pipe. Through them it will be fixed on the side posts of the box.

Options with mounting in a box

In this case, the main thing is to choose the right fasteners.

  • If fastening is carried out in wooden elements of the door frame, you will need self-tapping screws;
  • If there are slopes through the box into concrete or brick - anchors.

But nails cannot be used. They quickly become loose and fly out of the tree.

  • The simplest option is to screw two self-tapping screws with a hook or ring into the top crossbar of the box. Or use a hammer drill to drill a hole in the wall through the box and hammer in the anchor bolts. And hang the swing on them.
  • This method can also be used for mounting into the side posts of the box. It will turn out even more reliable, since it is more difficult to pull out horizontally screwed hardware. But the swing amplitude will decrease somewhat.
  • The other option is designed for heavier loads and is considered more reliable. It consists of using metal brackets or corners with several attachment points. Depending on the shape and design, they can also be installed on both the top and side parts of the door frame.

How to attach the brackets depends on the base material - wood or concrete/brick. You just need more hardware. Their price is not so significant that you save on the safety of your own child.

Even better is to look in stores for a special hanger for swings in the form of a loop with a carabiner on a metal plate.

Any fastener must be installed so that it is located approximately along the axis of the wooden beam of the door frame, but does not interfere with the door leaf getting into the narthex.

Modifications of hanging chairs

The original “airy” furniture has many interpretations: a cradle chair, a cocoon, a ball, an egg, a swing. The name characterizes only the shape, but the wide range of models is united by the ability to swing in the air.

A non-trivial furniture product has different frames and is divided into types:

With a rigid frame.

Wicker products are made from wicker, natural and artificial rattan. The excessive rigidity of the solid back and seat is offset by voluminous fluffy linings.

With a soft base.

The fabric frame of the round seat visually resembles a cone or a small hut. To sew the frame, strong and wear-resistant fabrics are used that can withstand heavy loads. The round base is equipped with numerous pillows.

The frameless chair has overall dimensions that provide the opportunity not only to sit comfortably in a reclining position, but also to sleep.

They are universal in use: optimally suited for home and outdoor conditions. If you plan to use it in open spaces, it is recommended to choose a model made of high-density fabric for reliable protection from the sun and wind.

With support in the form of a rack.

The ergonomic metal base offers excellent stability. Some models provide for fastening the rack to the floor and ceiling. This is the safest option for a child's hanging chair. A huge advantage is the mobility of the furniture product.

It can easily be used in an apartment in the winter, and in the summer the structure can be moved to the country house.

With a large-format base designed for two seats.

Models of suspended ceiling chairs

Hanging chairs come in a variety of interior shapes to suit every taste:

  • Egg/ball. This is a truncated hemisphere of regular or slightly elongated shape. The standard depth is 50 cm. Chairs with a 2/3 section can reach 85 cm in depth. Suspended strictly vertically. Designed for one person. Provide a complete overview;
  • Cocoon. This chair looks more like a “house” and will hide you from prying eyes. The frame can be of any shape, but it will invariably be closed. Only a small “loophole” will allow you to get inside. Although, even the entrance can be equipped with a curtain or door. A great way to find privacy in a large family. Differ in larger dimensions;
  • Hammock. This is a type of frameless textile chairs. They can be hung in the form of a drop (the edges are gathered at one point) or on a triangular “hanger” (hanger 2). Most loved by children for their comfort and softness. They are something between a camping tent, a swing and a hammock. The bottom is most often sealed with a special insert.

How to make a hanging chair with your own hands

To implement the creative idea of arranging a meditative corner in the house with informal-looking furniture, it is rational to do handicrafts.

There are many ways to create a hanging chair with your own hands:

  • By modifying the hammock. A wicker base can be used to cover a rigid frame. The openwork back of the furniture must be crocheted or knitted from strong threads.

  • When using a metal or wooden hoop as a base. A quick way to create an ornamental frame is macrame, which involves the use of durable materials: twine, clothesline, nylon cord.

The knot weaving technique allows you to create unusually beautiful and super-strong bases for hanging furniture.

  • When upgrading the papasan chair. The soft bowl-shaped base must be equipped with metal rings and ropes on six sides, connected in the area of the fastening hook. The result will be fully-fledged factory-made furniture.

The easiest option for making a man-made hanging chair is to model a frameless furniture product:

  1. It is necessary to prepare materials - durable upholstery fabric, thick braid, padding polyester, metal rings, rope slings, polyamide threads.
  2. Cut two large-format ovals from the fabric.
  3. The padding polyester should be placed evenly between the pieces of fabric.
  4. Sew two parts of the base.
  5. Cover with thick braid, which guarantees the dimensional stability of the furniture product.
  6. Make loops along the edges of the base for installing metal rings.
  7. Secure the rope slings.

A homemade hanging chair in the interior will look original. In the photos of the step-by-step master classes, you can admire the hand-made “furniture swings” in sewn, knitted, and wicker designs.

A variable choice of decor will allow you to choose a simple and economical way to create an item of extraordinary furniture for a play area in a children's room, comfort zones on a balcony or veranda.

To create an impeccable place for a pleasant pastime, you need to consider all the options for use. For long-term use by children, it is recommended to select reliable double models, because they will definitely want to relax on a hanging swing chair with young friends, toys or pets.

During operation, hanging chairs are capable of swinging to the sides and spinning around its axis.

The feeling of riding on a swing creates a relaxing effect and immerses you in the atmosphere of a carefree childhood. With the advent of a modernized hammock in the house, a long-standing dream of creating a piece of paradise in the house, associated with relaxing on the azure ocean under the spreading crown of a palm tree, will come true.

To realize all kinds of desires for arranging comfortable recreation areas, you just need to furnish your home or yard with ergonomic and stunning-looking hanging chairs.

Mounting options for hanging swings

If wooden beams are used as a supporting structure, then installing a swing in a children's room on the ceiling is done using large screws in the form of hooks, which are screwed directly into the beam. The ropes on which the swing is held are attached to these hooks using carabiners.

In other cases, installation of the suspended structure is carried out in one of two ways:

  • Using chemical anchors. Holes are drilled in the concrete floor, which are then filled with a special two-component paste based on a hardener and polymer resins. Next, the mounting bolts are screwed into the holes. After the time specified by the manufacturer, the chemical paste will completely harden, and the anchor can no longer be removed from the ceiling. After this, you can hang the swing on the fasteners.
  • Using a support rail. In this case, the swing is not attached to the ceiling, but to a metal crossbar, which allows you to evenly distribute the load and also move the structure along its entire length. A strong steel pipe can be used as a crossbar. The tire is installed between the walls and secured using two wooden blocks, in the center of which holes are cut corresponding to the diameter of the pipe. The pipe is first installed in the first block, which is attached to the wall using self-tapping screws and dowels. Then the other end of the pipe is inserted into the second block, which is mounted in the same way on the opposite wall. This design can be used not only as a suspension for a swing, but also as a home horizontal bar.

Children's swings: classification by age

To choose the right swing, you need to pay special attention to the type of design, since each type has its own characteristics (depending on the age of the children).

To make your choice easier, you can divide children's swings into several categories.

For newborns

Electric swings are suitable for children of this age. They provide a high level of safety because they feature electronic rocking with a small amplitude that prevents the child from falling out.

They are endowed with such an integral advantage as built-in music and vibration, which distract the child and help him fall asleep.

  • Transformers are perfect for children aged 6 months and older.

You need to swing such a swing yourself, but an integral advantage is the quick transformation into a cradle or feeding table. They are more practical than electric swings, because the child quickly grows out of the latter, and they simply become unsuitable.

From 1 to 3 years

The most suitable option for this age would be to purchase floor-standing models. They are quite durable, stable and can withstand weight up to 26 kg. Typically, the child's seat is made of durable materials, and the swing itself is equipped with protective bridges between the legs, seat belts and handrails.

The child can swing on them independently or with the help of adults.

From 3 years

There is currently a huge variety of swings designed for older children.

These include the so-called balancing swing. They are made in the form of various animals, cars or fairy-tale characters. Such designs will appeal to even the most picky child.

For teenagers

For this category of children, not only convenience is important, they value appearance. A swing intended for a teenager should be decorated in an original and tasteful way to match the interior design of the room.

You can do this yourself, using separately purchased materials or by purchasing a ready-made structure.

Such rooms are usually suitable for chaise lounges or swings in the form of a transparent sphere, which will complement the interior and make it brighter.

Criterias of choice

When choosing a swing for a room, you need to consider many points. A quality model will have:

  • durable and pleasant to the touch seat material;
  • reliable and stable fastenings;
  • well fixed seat;
  • durable seat belts;
  • soft groin strap;
  • handrails for increased safety;
  • protective sides for the youngest users;
  • special pads for ease of riding;
  • anti-slip fasteners;
  • stable heavy frame that will not move during operation.

Swings for children have special requirements. They must be characterized by increased strength, reliability and safety. The presence of fixing straps is mandatory, especially in products for children. The material from which the structure is made must be environmentally friendly, durable and lightweight. The frame and seat should be comfortable to use. Additionally, you can pay attention to the equipment, for example, hanging toys, musical accompaniment, squeaky toys.

The main criterion is that the swing matches the child’s age.

For newborns you can choose rocking cradles, for children from six months and older - transformers in the form of a swing and a high chair, for children from one to three years old - floor models equipped with seat belts and a stable frame, and for children from three and older - hanging products , rocking balancers and other variations.

It is also worth following other tips:

  1. The manufacturer must indicate the maximum weight loads. They cannot be ignored.
  2. When purchasing a plastic product, you need to check that it does not have cracks, damage or an unpleasant odor.
  3. Models made of wood must be varnished. This will help avoid splinter-related injuries.
  4. The children's structure should not have sharp corners, roughness or removable parts.
  5. Products based on a metal frame are considered the most durable. Wooden or plastic structures may lose their original properties during use.

Products must be supplemented with certificates of quality and conformity. Before purchasing and hanging a children's swing, be sure to read these documents.

Tips for choosing a children's swing for an apartment

When choosing a children's swing for your home, you need to take into account the weight and age of the child. It is worth noting that hanging models are suitable for children over 4 years of age; they are multifunctional and do not take up much space in the apartment.

Floor-standing ones are intended for babies up to one year old, designed for a child whose weight does not exceed 13 kg.

Another criterion is safety. Particular attention should be paid to the quality of the design. You need to check the presence of anti-slip clamps for floor-standing models and regular clamps for hanging ones.

The swing must be heavy so that it does not tip over.

Comfort is an equally important factor. It is necessary to choose a seat that will support the baby's back. A wooden seat would be an excellent option, as it is not only durable, but also hypoallergenic.

Nowadays, swings have many additional features. These include melodious panels, various vibrations, hanging toys and insect-proof nets.

Before purchasing, you need to calculate the scale of the apartment and take into account the available space. If the apartment is small, an excellent choice would be a hanging swing, which is attached to the door or to the ceiling using iron hooks. All other models described above are suitable for large rooms.

Choosing a swing for a child's nursery

When choosing a model for children, parents have a special responsibility: the swing itself is very dangerous. Children can fall from them and be injured by the fall or hit, including in the head, by the swinging seat. There are other opportunities to inadvertently harm yourself, especially if the swing is also used as an exercise machine. Therefore, the main focus should be on safety.

  • Material. All structural elements must be made of lightweight and durable materials that do not emit harmful substances. The lighter the seat, the less likely it is that the child will be injured in a fall. For babies, swings with plastic seats are preferable.
  • Device. The smallest ones are secured in the seat using seat belts. There may also be other ways to hold the child in place to prevent accidental falls.
  • Fastening. It is better to entrust the installation of hanging swings in an apartment to specialists. When installing yourself, you need to take into account that in most houses the ceilings are made of hollow slabs, and they are not suitable for suspended devices that carry a serious load.

The photo shows a hanging chair in the interior of a small children's room.

A swing for an apartment that is planned to be installed in a nursery is chosen in accordance with the age of the children and the tasks that parents face. All models can be roughly divided into three types:

  • for the little ones,
  • for physical development,
  • for relaxation.

The first type of swing resembles a cradle, often equipped with speakers for playing calm music or sounds of nature. In such devices, children lie calmly between feedings and fall asleep well.

The second type is intended for children aged three years and older. A car tire tied to a rope is both a swinging device and an excellent exercise machine for the vestibular system, which at the same time allows you to increase muscle strength and develop coordination.

The third type of swing is suitable not only for children, but also for adults; it can be installed in any room in the apartment.

Installation location for suspended version

You can place a hanging swing in any part of the living room, but you need to take into account the following factors:

  • Children. If the main task is to provide leisure time for the child, then it should be placed in the middle of the room, and not interfere with other elements. It should rise to the ceiling when not in use or be permanently attached.
  • The absence of children allows you to place the swing anywhere. Most often they simply replace the chair. They can be placed near the fireplace or TV. It is best if the swing is upholstered.

Please note that it is not necessary to make a large space for the structure to swing. A little space is enough.

If the living room has a special corner for relaxation, and the swing in it is the main furniture, then it is best to choose a hanging option. You can relax better there and read a book. A swing in the form of a hammock is also perfect.

If there is no space in the living room, you can create a mobile structure in the doorway. This placement is only possible for a children's swing. The main rule is reliability and ease of removal.

Let's start making a swing

Step 1. Assembling the seat

If we are dealing with simple plywood, the task becomes much easier.

If the seat is a prefabricated structure made of slats, you need to assemble the following from them:

The main thing is that the blocks do not crack. Therefore, before tightening the screws, it is advisable to drill thin holes for them. This way you will solve two problems at once - the blocks will not crack and it will be easier to screw in the screws. Please note: the corner screws must be screwed in offset, since there will be large holes for the rope in the corners of the structure. You can go even further and glue the outermost of the five cross bars.

Original ideas

Armchair for one.

For “eternal children”, designers have long come up with a swing chair that is attached to the ceiling. Thanks to the variety of design ideas, such chairs can fit into any interior. Classic rattan models will fit perfectly into an apartment furnished according to the latest fashion trends, and into an apartment with a classic interior, and a futuristic transparent swing chair can even be installed in an office.

Designers from Fritz Hansen, for example, came up with a completely simple option - they turned the frame of a designer chair into a swing.

Bed for two.

Designers have been experimenting with hanging beds for quite some time. Now this topic is becoming relevant again. Most often, such “home swings” find their place in warm countries, but if desired, they can fit perfectly on the terrace of a country house.

And it doesn’t matter what style your country home is in - a swing bed can be designed in an oriental, colonial, or modern style.

Modern swings for the home, so-called hanging beds, are attached to the ceiling using thin but strong steel ropes. All that is needed for this is a strong ceiling that can support the weight of the bed.

Nothing prevents you from making a swing bed - remember how quickly a baby fell asleep in a cradle. One problem: an adult can roll over on his side, and a rocking bed in his sleep can cause some discomfort.

Swing... on a chandelier.

If there is no room for furniture suspended from the ceiling, you can always place a traditional rope swing. Or purchase an unusual lamp (as in the photo): the seat in it is sold along with the lighting fixtures.

Don't forget to strengthen the ceiling mounting hook!

Sofa For the family.

Swings for a “sofa type” home are intended for boys and girls, as well as their parents. With the help of these models, you can arrange a mini-resort not only among the trees in the garden, but also at home, and on the balcony - under a palm tree in a tub. A hanging sofa swing for children is similar to an adult sofa swing, only smaller in size and brighter in color.

You can hang such a swing yourself or buy a model on a special stand.

A sofa swing is a win-win option: you can sit down alone, you can swing with the whole family.

Which rope is best to use for a swing?

To hang a swing you need a strong rope that can withstand heavy loads. In addition, it should not stretch, crack at sharp bends, or unravel in separate threads. Climbing rope or sisal rope works best. The optimal thickness is 13 mm.

The ends of the rope may become frayed. To prevent this from happening, they are tied with twine. Various options for strapping schemes are shown in the photo.
