Black and white kitchen design: 50+ real photos of interiors

The combination of dark and light can be safely called classic and proven. This is what housewives turn to when they want an elegant interior.

A black and white kitchen can be decorated in any style: from classic to modern. This combination is applicable in any room, but, of course, with its own characteristics. Advice from designers will help make such a kitchen non-standard and not boring.

Advantages of a white and black interior

Some advantages are listed above, for example - versatility. The black and white combination can be used anywhere. Moreover, such a symbiosis allows you to greatly play with the perception of the room, for example, making it wider or, conversely, narrower, arranging colors differently.

This contrast will play an excellent role in zoning the room, separating the work area from the dining area. This is especially useful in large kitchens or studios.

This combination looks great in any materials, so you can save a little and not spend money on natural raw materials. But this, of course, also depends on the chosen style.

Another advantage of the black and white combination is that color mistakes are almost impossible here, because black and white are classics. Finally, it is worth saying that such a kitchen will always look elegant.

Style solution for the interior of a black and white kitchen

This color combination will fit perfectly into both classic and modern trends, allowing you to implement rather unexpected, bold ideas for organizing space. Let's consider what features are inherent in various designs in more detail in order to choose the appropriate kitchen option for yourself.

Classic

A classic in a black and white kitchen involves the use of natural materials in decoration and furniture, for example, a carved white wood facade or a granite countertop in black shades, as well as wooden flooring.

The room should be graceful and elegant, and the composition should be made of strict geometric shapes, without excessive pretentiousness. Furniture in a classic style is chosen to be comfortable and practical, with smooth, ornate outlines.

High tech

The high-tech style for this color combination necessarily includes ergonomic, simple shapes. The appropriate materials include steel, plastic, glass inserts, complemented by metal corners, chrome handles, and aluminum chandeliers.

A black table with metal legs and a black, tinted glass top will look beautiful. You can dilute the interior with bright monochromatic details and accessories. Kitchen facades are most often made glossy, shiny, and a suspended ceiling is best suited.

Minimalism

Minimalism in planning should be clearly zoned using color and rational. The eye should not be drawn to any small details or small decor. Both natural and artificial materials are used in finishing, but always with a smooth surface that reflects light.

It can be steel, wood, glass, nickel, chrome, durable plastic, etc. There is no place for ornamentation and bright accents in minimalism. As an option, the bottom row of cabinets of the facade stands out in contrast, or the legs and table top are made opposite.

Loft

A black and white loft-style kitchen will suit lovers of urban style. It can be implemented in a studio apartment or in a kitchen combined with a living room, where you can interestingly play up the zoning of the room using a black glossy bar counter.

Materials such as chrome, steel, and glass surfaces are appropriate for decoration. The decoration of one of the kitchen walls with brick, painted white, will look interesting. Dark facades can be complemented by the soft light of built-in lamps.

White glossy tiles are combined with glass or with black stripes along the facade, visually lengthening the space.

Each of the styles described above is unique in its own way, and the choice of solution depends on the personal preferences of the home owner, as well as on the design of the remaining rooms. Next, let's look at the various combinations of two colors that exist and how best to use them.

Disadvantages of black and white interior

This solution also has a downside:

  1. Black and white are probably the most easily soiled colors you can imagine. The frequency of cleaning will increase significantly.
  2. Incorrect proportions of tones (skewed towards black) can ruin your mood and even cause depression.
  3. Increased room illumination is required, since black can visually reduce it.

Basic Rules

If there are only two colors available, then creating the perfect kitchen is difficult. There are several secrets that will help create a harmonious atmosphere:

  • If the room is 12 sq. m or less, it is better to use more white surfaces, as they will not visually narrow the space;
  • It is better to use different materials to create a more interesting atmosphere. By combining different textures, the aesthetic appeal will be enhanced;
  • in a black and white interior, you can use chrome surfaces - glossy or matte - as accents.
  • It is important to monitor quality lighting, since a large amount of light will make the kitchen more comfortable.
  • if the interior is made only in black and white, then white should be chosen cold, like the light bulbs.

Decorating walls, floors and ceilings in a black and white kitchen interior

Having decided on the dominant color, you can begin decorating the room. Various black and white materials can be used to decorate kitchen walls. The kitchen apron area is usually decorated with ceramic tiles, mosaics, marble or glass panels. Outside the work area, the walls can be covered with wallpaper in original black and white colors, thanks to which the kitchen space will become cozy and comfortable.

The best material for flooring in a black and white kitchen interior is large glossy tiles. The chess pattern looks most impressive, but the floor can also be plain - white or black. Other traditional kitchen flooring materials include linoleum, laminate and parquet.

The design of the ceiling in the kitchen interior is also of great importance. In interiors with simple and restrained wall decoration, the ceiling can be catchy and spectacular. A suspended ceiling with multi-level structures and tension elements with a glossy surface looks great. However, if the interior is replete with bright and attractive details, it is advisable to make the ceiling plain white. Even a simple ceiling, illuminated with built-in spotlights or fluorescent lamps, will look very impressive in the kitchen interior.

Color perception

A person makes any choice for a reason, but based on his knowledge, desires or simply feelings - different shades evoke different emotions. When choosing a shade for the kitchen or any other room, you should take this into account, because a small inaccuracy will ruin all the work, and the finished renovation will begin to irritate, spoil the mood and even cause a feeling of fatigue.

Usually black tones are associated with grief and sadness. But at the same time, it is a symbol of luxury, wealth, independence, confidence and even tranquility.

It is black that best emphasizes white and gives it expressiveness. It is suitable only for self-confident, serious individuals. But don’t forget about the more mundane features of color - it narrows the space. For this reason, as a dominant feature, it is suitable only for owners of large kitchens.

A similar combination can be repeated in a wooden house. This photo is a great example of a dark kitchen with a light wood countertop. Comfort to the maximum

Purity, freedom, inspiration - these are the images that arise when imagining the color white. It gives the space an airy, voluminous and at the same time elegant look. It can be combined with many colors, but even in the right combination with black it can improve the mood of the household.

What kind of people would a black and white kitchen suit?

There is an opinion that such a monochrome solution is suitable only for perfectionists who will maintain perfect order in the kitchen. This is partly true, because otherwise different kitchen utensils on the countertop and different appliances will negate all the beauty and elegance of the graphic design.

Due to color neutrality, such an interior is accused of being boring and similar to a typical office. But this myth has long lost its relevance, because such a design can even be called solemn, but at the same time restrained. Such qualities will be appreciated by people who love a touch of nobility in the interior.

Striped kitchen design option

So, a black and white kitchen is perfect for people who:

  • have a sense of style;
  • want to always be in trend;
  • value both elegance and practicality;
  • do not like halftones;
  • bold for non-standard solutions;
  • strive for harmony.

A black and white kitchen requires attention, so it won’t be possible to hide it.

Proportions of black and white colors

Although the combination of black and white is very common, popular and even standard, it is still difficult to achieve. No, you can always choose white wallpaper and a black floor, but the point is that these tones are difficult to combine correctly, emphasizing the features of the room. That is, it is important not to make a small black and white kitchen even smaller due to the large number of dark tones.

There are several factors that will help you decide which color to make dominant:

  • kitchen size;
  • psychological perception of a person;
  • the size of the window and the side on which it faces, as well as the amount of incoming light;
  • number of artificial lighting sources;
  • wishes of the household.

To create a harmonious interior, you must immediately abandon the idea of using black and white in equal quantities. All designers advise giving preference to one of the colors.

Proportions may vary. For example:

  • in a small kitchen it will be 90% white and 10% black;
  • if the windows face the sunny side, then you need to select 70% of a cold shade and dilute it with 30% of a warm one.

You can even add a third shade as 10%. Then it is better to distribute white and black as 60 and 30 percent. And use dishes, vases, lamps, curtains and other decor as accents.

White dominates

Often this choice is not even worth it, since in a kitchen of less than 15 square meters black is not used as the main color due to the risk of greatly reducing the space and creating a dark box instead of a kitchen.

Black on a white background gives the interior zest, structure and even depth. This could be a countertop, a backsplash, or even furniture. The main thing is to maintain a light background.

Black dominates

Using black as the main color imposes certain obligations. He is so demanding that he was even nicknamed the “king of shades.” The room simply must be spacious with high ceilings and large windows through which light will flood the entire room.

Such expanse will also be appreciated by such chic styles as:

  • neo-baroque;
  • neoclassical;
  • glamor;
  • Gothic.

Color Features

Characteristics and features of this shade:

  • Since black contributes to the visual reduction of space, in the design of a small kitchen it is used fragmentarily in the form of accents.
  • Dark tones visually distance objects, thereby deepening or lengthening the room.
  • A black kitchen will look much better if it is combined with the living room or made into a walk-through area.
  • This palette creates a calm and balanced atmosphere, which is perfect for purposeful and self-sufficient people with high status and for those who prefer original design experiments.
  • In psychology, black has a positive effect on the human psyche, motivates creativity and allows concentration.
  • According to Feng Shui, it is not recommended to use black as a basic background in the kitchen interior, as this will upset the balance of the elements of fire and water. It is better to apply this color partially or choose the most muted shades.

Color options

Determining the proportions and dominant features will not allow you to imagine the finished kitchen. Now you need to decide which pieces of furniture will be painted in which colors. Let's give a few examples.

White top black bottom

A classic option that is suitable for any size kitchen. This solution perfectly delimits the space: the upper part of the cabinets looks airy, and the lower part merges with large household appliances.

Please note that even the base is black

Black top - white bottom

If the room is spacious and the ceilings are high, then you can conduct several experiments. For example, decorate the top drawers of the set, the ceiling and the countertop in black, and leave the floor cabinets, refrigerator and furniture white.

The floor in such an interior should be light, but not white - otherwise there is a risk of getting a solid stain.

White kitchen - black countertop

If you have a small kitchen, for example, in a Khrushchev-era building, and you want to apply a Scandinavian style to it, then a black countertop against a white set is the best solution, especially if you choose a glossy finish.

Black in this option emphasizes the light and warm design, which will make the kitchen even more cozy and comfortable.

Don't miss: Light kitchen with dark countertops - a new interior trend

A very stylish example of a kitchen countertop without upper cabinets but with an island

White set - black apron

The effect of this solution is basically similar to the previous one - such a kitchen looks very impressive. The rigor of the finish is emphasized, and also provides an excellent background for the rest of the furniture located below and above this area.

White set with dark countertops and black hog tiles with light grout. The only thing is that it is better to replace the towels with plain ones

White set - black table

Individual black furniture elements always look great against a white background. The table can serve as an accent that supports other elements, such as floor lamps or a bowl of fruit. This option will look great in a kitchen in a classic or Provence style.

Experiments on the theme of modern Provence with a straight layout along the wall and an island. Notice how the black tabletop seems to flow around the cabinets with an edge - a very stylish solution. Large windows are not curtained with heavy windows, but are emphasized with tulle

White set - black floor

Purely psychologically, the black floor is associated with the earth, so it creates a feeling of reliability, support and a certain earthiness. The black floor gives the white kitchen the effect of solidity and a noble atmosphere.

The tiles are laid without joints between the tiles, therefore creating the effect of a monolithic coating

White set - black appliances

Black appliances in a white kitchen are a fairly popular and practical solution. Due to the increase in interior contrast to almost the maximum, this combination is suitable only for modern and slightly rough styles such as loft, art deco and Scandinavian minimalism. To make the design complete, it is better to choose a black countertop.

Now there are even black built-in appliances, such as an oven or refrigerator. Of course, you will have to pay more for such examples than for a regular black hood, but the result will be a beautiful and stylish kitchen in which it will be a pleasure to cook.

A black hob on a white countertop looks very impressive, but the opposite is also possible - a white stove on a black countertop. Contrast always looks beautiful.

It is worth paying attention to the zoning of this kitchen-living room. If in the kitchen there are light tiles on the wall with dark grout, then in the living room there is white brick with black grout. The floor coverings are also different.

Black kitchen - white countertop

This bold duet can only be implemented in large kitchens, because a black set will absorb light and visually reduce the space.

A white apron with a countertop will dilute this abundance of black and enliven the interior, but for a small kitchen it is still better to look for a different combination.

Which handles to choose for a white kitchen set

Category: Interior decoration

Hello, dear friends! Today we will talk to you about one important detail in the design of the kitchen, although it is generally considered to be secondary elements of the interior. We will talk about the color of handles for doors and cabinets of a white kitchen set.

At first glance, this detail of the kitchen set may seem like a very insignificant element to you. However, there is nothing unimportant in a harmonious interior. All elements are very important for creating a beautiful interior, although they are divided into primary and secondary elements.

I have been meaning to write such a lesson for a long time, because I was asked a similar question very often, so today I will tell you what metal fittings to equip a white kitchen set with. Although today handles are used in kitchen sets in various so-called historical styles, in modern styles (especially minimalism, high-tech) they are increasingly being completely abandoned in favor of special door opening mechanisms and kitchen drawer closers. However, let's continue our lesson and start with black pens.

Black color

I recommend this color for door handles and cabinets only if you have black countertops (as in the photo below).

In my opinion, metal handles should not immediately catch your eye when entering the kitchen. If you really like them and want to visually emphasize their importance, then go for it, no one will forbid you.

Bronze color

Use bronze brown with brown countertops. Visually they will not stand out as much as black, but there are not so many of them here.

Chromium

I used this option several years ago in one of the projects when I was choosing a faucet and handles for a customer. Chrome was always at hand and relatively inexpensive. Also notice how perfectly the chrome handle and faucet match the light gray marble countertop.

I prefer chrome plated nickel handles and faucets. They look like jewelry in the kitchen. Obviously, this option is not suitable for everyone. If the kitchen is designed, for example, in a rustic style, then chrome will look completely out of place.

Brushed Nickel

I think this option is the safest. Not too bright, not too dark and matches all stainless steel appliances. You definitely can't go wrong.

Brass

While this kitchen pictured below looks nice, I think the brass handles are too warm in tone. Just as brown goes with cream, and black with white, this shade of handles is more suitable for an office with a wooden interior. You should definitely tell this to anyone who pairs brass with light-colored appliances in their kitchen, as they do here.

Make sure you choose the right handles and hardware, door pulls, and dresser drawer hardware. If there are narrow drawers at the top of the chest of drawers, you can install two handles on them instead of one long one, which sometimes take up too much space.

These are simple tips, but I think a lot of us worry about every little thing, and I hope this helps you figure out yours! What color are the metal parts in your kitchen?

Third color

To add personality and brightness to the kitchen, a third color is often used. Most often it is used in small quantities, for example, in an apron or decor.

The second option can be called more practical, since by replacing the entire decor, you can create a completely different image of the kitchen.

The following tones are popular:

  1. Red - brings freshness and a little intrigue to the room, attracts attention thanks to its powerful energy. Can be used in dining set, apron, curtains, chandelier, dinnerware and so on. When choosing a shade, you should observe moderation.

A stylish example of a spacious red, black and white kitchen-living room with a bar counter

  1. Gray - smoothes out strong contrast, making the space more restrained and laconic. Used for walls or backsplashes, it is also suitable for lamps and textiles. A mosaic backsplash made from tiles in black, white and gray will look great.

A white, gray and black kitchen in a minimalist style is an excellent solution for a city apartment

  1. Green - relaxes and improves mood, at the same time helping to increase appetite. Juicy accents can be placed using kitchen accessories or a bright pattern on the apron, for example, kiwi, broccoli or other greens. If you want calmer and muted tones, then you can decorate one wall with them - preferably the one next to the dining group.

A black, white and green kitchen always feels spring freshness, which will be useful in a city apartment

  1. Yellow - raises the temperature in the kitchen, creates an atmosphere of comfort, activity and cheerfulness, and at the same time goes well with white and black. Here you should adhere to the same principles as with green - the brighter the shade, the smaller the accents should be painted with it.

  1. Purple - smoothes out the strict forms of furniture, but it is important not to overdo it, as it can cause depression. An apron with purple flowers, such as crocuses or orchids, or glass inserts on the facade with a purple print will look great.

Which accents to choose

To create a unique and non-standard interior, you can use additional colors that can smooth out the high contrast of the headset and add an exotic and bright touch to the monochrome combination.

Red

Refers to popular companion shades for black and white kitchens. Scarlet color attracts attention, refreshes the interior and creates intrigue. Variants of red can be included in the composition on the apron. Colored dishes and vases, scarlet covers on the backs of chairs will harmoniously fit into the interior. When choosing such a shade as an addition, moderation must be observed, as it can distract from the overall atmosphere.

Grey

It is an intermediate link in the original color scheme. Well complements and smoothes out contrasting combinations of shades when using muted tones. It is used to decorate kitchen walls, aprons, and is also suitable for textiles and lighting fixtures. A multi-color mosaic made of black and white tiles, as well as many shades of gray, looks very stylish.

Green

The shade of nature and forest is suitable for diluting the severity of monochrome and creating an optimistic spring mood. To place juicy accents, you can insert small light green or yellow-green spots in the form of kitchen accessories or a bright composition on the apron containing broccoli or spicy herbs. More delicate and muted tones are well suited for decorating one or more kitchen walls.

Yellow

This appetizing and positive color has many shades suitable for combination with a black and white interior. A bright lemon will add a cheerful note to the design, and deep yellow will create a sunny mood. To decorate relatively large surfaces with a third color, such as a wall or roller blinds on a wide window, pastel is suitable.

Style

As mentioned above, a black and white kitchen will accept almost any interior style. But each has its own characteristics that must be adhered to in order to obtain a harmonious design.

ClassicIn such an interior, it is better not to experiment with a variety of colors, so the top and bottom drawers should be made in the same color. The walls can be painted or wallpapered. The main thing is monotony.
White plays the role of a background in a modern classic kitchen. There are tiles on the floor. A white set with a black marble countertop will look no less impressive.

High techThe essence of high-tech is precisely contrast, so he is very happy with the black and white solution.
It is worth sticking to clear lines and shapes in furniture. A stylish move would be a combination of matte and glossy surfaces. Black and white tones can perfectly zone the space if such a need arises in a large high-tech kitchen.
RetroThis style can be called a real outlet for black and white symbiosis. Black and white photos immediately come to mind. You can brighten up the interior with bright retro appliances, for example, a red refrigerator and homemade decor.
ModernBlack and white symbiosis will give modernity the comfort and simplicity it so needs. A kitchen in this style should have glass and metal. The bigger, the better. It is also necessary to use bright accents, but there is no need to be too zealous with them. There should be no more than two bright colors, for example, yellow and red.
LoftA loft will require a large space without interior partitions. Natural materials are used on the walls. Sets based on the “black bottom and white top” principle will look great in such a kitchen. This union is complemented by black and white, posters or even graffiti.
MinimalismIn the minimalist style, simple solutions are predominantly used: standard shapes, plain coatings, and a virtual complete absence of decor.
Simplicity and functionality are the two foundations on which minimalism rests. Read more about minimalist kitchen >>>
ProvenceThis style requires a large number of light details, so the set should be white. The maximum allowance is black inserts on drawers or walls. The tabletop with an apron is also made in light colors, but the decor can be dark, for example, forged metal lamps.
Art DecoArt Deco is very demanding on details, so you need to pay attention to them first. Furniture is selected with rounded corners - graphic precision and sharp lines will be out of place. The ideal wall decoration for a large kitchen is dark wallpaper with a stylish pattern.
Scandinavian styleOnly natural materials and light, airy colors with minimal use of black, for example, in the countertop, are useful here.

Finishing

Finishing is such a common thing that it rarely receives much attention. In the case of black and white, this would be a big mistake, since the tones are quite complex and not entirely practical for the kitchen. Let's figure out what is best to decorate the floor, walls and ceiling in a black and white kitchen.

Floor

Various materials can be used for the floor, for example:

  • porcelain stoneware or regular tiles - the most obvious option is checkerboard laying, but there are other solutions, for example, a decorative pattern or just a plain coating. An imitation of natural stone, for example, quartzite or marble, if a light shade is needed, and hornstone or skarn, if a dark shade, will look luxurious.
  • laminate - can imitate not only wood, but also stone patterns and even textures. It is worth choosing only high-quality specimens, since inexpensive options may not survive the harsh conditions of the kitchen;
  • Polymer self-leveling flooring is one of the most modern and best coatings that will last a very long time. It can be made plain, with a pattern or even with any pattern. The last option, of course, is more expensive than the others;
  • linoleum;
  • batten.

One of the most popular options in a black and white kitchen is floor tiles

Usually they opt for tiles or laminate, since rare linoleum looks decent, and the floorboard may not cope with the complex kitchen atmosphere.

The tiles can be plain or patterned, glossy or rough. You should approach glossy items with caution, as there is a risk of slipping if something spills in the kitchen, which happens quite often.

To make your kitchen original, you need to combine different textures, for example:

  • matte floor but glossy countertop;
  • textured tabletop, but glossy apron;
  • glossy set, but textured walls, etc.

Walls

The following materials are suitable for wall decoration:

  • paint - it is better to give preference to waterproof and washable options;
  • wallpaper - again, you should choose washable ones, most often it is either vinyl or non-woven fabric;

An example of an unusual use of black and white photo wallpaper

  • decorative plaster is a monochromatic coating that can be either textured or smooth. Sometimes additional decor is used, for example, sparkles and other fillers;
  • tiles - often used only on the apron, and not for the entire wall;
  • panels - can be made of wood, MDF or plastic. Characteristics and cost greatly depend on the material. It is rarely used - most often, again, in the apron area.

The walls should serve as a backdrop for kitchen furniture, so you should follow a simple rule: if the furniture is decorated and multi-colored, then the finish should be monochromatic. And vice versa.

It is better to choose light colors, as such a background will highlight the furniture, appliances and interior decor.

Notice the black accent wall with white lettering. It is coated with graphite paint, so you can use crayons on it

Apron

An apron in a black and white kitchen is an important and complex matter, which must be approached very carefully, because both colors are considered quite easily soiled. Which option is better?

First you need to understand the materials that can be used in a black and white kitchen:

  • ordinary concrete - practical;
  • mosaic - lasts a long time, but you have to watch the seams;
  • tempered glass - easy to care for, no seams, but expensive;
  • wood is environmentally friendly, but difficult to maintain and expensive;
  • MDF - inexpensive and fast, but will not last very long, about 5–10 years;
  • Stainless steel is stylish, but difficult to maintain.

Then you need to decide on the color scheme. There are several options:

  1. Stick to a black and white color scheme by decorating the apron in one of these colors. Black is considered a strong color in terms of energy, so it is used in an apron only if the main tone in the kitchen is light. White is not the most practical color for a backsplash since all the drops and splashes will be visible. You can choose not a pure white apron, but one with a pattern, for example, marble - this will disguise minor stains. And, of course, it is better to choose materials that are easy to clean.
  2. Choose an apron in rich colors that will add freshness to the interior. It can be red, turquoise, yellow, green and others. The apron will serve as the main color accent, so it’s worth choosing the decor to match.

Stylish interior with a green brick apron and black countertop

  1. Skinali, or photo printing on glass. If in any other interior designers advise choosing photo printing with landscapes and perspective, then in a black and white kitchen you should abandon this idea, as it may result in an inharmonious space. In this case, it is better to get by with some product images, for example, red strawberries or dark blue blueberries.
  2. Mosaic. It can be plain, monochrome or colored. It is worth taking care of high-quality epoxy grout so that you do not have to worry about cleaning the space between the joints.
  3. Stainless steel. This option is suitable for a black and white kitchen in a modern high-tech style. It looks very stylish and does not allow bacteria to multiply on its surface, but at the same time it emphasizes all the drops and splashes, so this apron will have to be cleaned often. If the decision has already been made, then it is better to add chrome or black handles to the set, silver household appliances and a mixer.

A backsplash made of black frosted glass with glossy patterns serves as a beautiful accent to a dark white kitchen.

Ceiling

The standard ceiling option is matte white. Tension fabric is most often used. But you can move away from this decision.

For example, if the room is very spacious and the ceilings are at least three meters, then you can take a closer look at more extravagant options - for example, gloss black. And if you combine it with white walls, the ceiling will not seem lower than it actually is.

The following ceiling finishing options are available:

  • paint is more practical than whitewash;
  • plasterboard - allows you to create any multi-level structures of various colors, for example, a black and white ceiling in the kitchen;
  • plaster - the rough texture looks impressive in a black and white kitchen;
  • wallpaper is a budget option, but not very practical for the kitchen, as it can peel off above the stove due to humidity and temperature changes;
  • suspended ceiling is one of the best options. For the kitchen, it is better to choose film rather than fabric because of the increased practicality of the material - it is easy to clean and does not absorb dirt, grease and odor.

Interior elements

The main element of the interior in the kitchen, without a doubt, is the furniture, namely the facades. In a monochrome kitchen, the set will always attract attention, so you should give preference only to very high-quality materials.

The most popular and impressive option would be kitchens made of MDF coated with enamel or acrylic. The sheen of gloss gives the space depth and volume. But you should be very careful with such facades, since they can easily be scratched, and in addition they will collect fingerprints of the whole family.

If you want a simpler option, then you can choose the same MDF panels, but covered with PVC film. They don't shine as much, but are much more affordable.

If you want the most impressive set, then you should make it black and white and glossy, and make several doors from matte tempered glass. It is best to choose chrome-plated metal fittings rather than black.

Tabletop

The main requirement for the tabletop is to look as harmonious as possible against the background of the set. If the kitchen cabinets are black, then it would be an interesting solution to choose a white countertop. It can be either more expensive, for example, made of artificial stone, or simpler - made of postforming plastic.

If the facades are made in white, then again it’s worth playing with contrast and choosing a black countertop. But it’s worth considering that dark colors make dirt, scratches, drops of water, stains, crumbs and other frustrating things easier to see.

If you want the most non-staining color possible, then you should take a closer look at gray. For countertops, in principle, there is one recommendation - to abandon a single-color coating in favor of an abstract pattern, for example, a stone look. This will hide most minor dirt.

Elegant dark green set with a stone countertop and unusual white tiles on the apron

Daredevils can try to dilute the “boring” black and white set with bright colors of the tabletop. It really looks unique and even somewhat extravagant. But more often than not, such a trio turns out to be unsuccessful and “not for everyone,” especially when it comes to a small kitchen.

Table and chairs

Not a single kitchen, even a black and white one, can do without a table and chairs. Most often, the owners have completely free hands when it comes to choosing the color of the kitchen corner. There are several options:

  1. Leave them monochrome. For example, if the set is black, then the table top should also be black, and the chairs white - this will look very elegant, just like the opposite option.
  2. Create a color accent. For example, decorating a dining area in yellow, red or blue will immediately attract attention and improve the mood in the kitchen.
  3. Add air by choosing a glass table with a matte or transparent top. Decoration with black and white patterns is acceptable.

Lighting

Lighting in a black and white room is more important than in any other. The reason for this is considered to be the color black, which can have a negative impact on the human psyche, as well as visually narrow the space. Darkness in the room is unacceptable, so it is important to use both natural and artificial lighting.

The following points need to be taken into account:

  • If there are a lot of dark objects in the kitchen, then in addition to the main chandelier in the center, it is necessary to use additional ceiling lights;
  • It is better to prefer glossy surfaces for equipment and furniture - they will reflect light;
  • The best solution would be to use multi-level lighting, in which the lamps are located not only on the ceiling, but also on the walls, and even in the floor - this will make the space as voluminous as possible;
  • You can always think about additional lighting - for example, an LED strip around the perimeter of the ceiling or under free-standing objects.

Color combination options “White top, black bottom”

There are several basic options for how to combine these two opposing colors in one place. A beautiful and stylish black and white kitchen is always the right combination of textures, a variety of decorative elements, bold shapes and unusual solutions. Here are the main options:

The most common is the “White top, black bottom” option. A fairly practical option, in which all the lower cabinets and countertops are made dark, and the upper cabinets, curtains and decor are light.

It looks very light, bright, voluminous. In this case, the table can be light and the chairs can be dark. Or, on the contrary, the table and chairs are light, and the flooring and carpet are darker. In general, you can experiment.

Textiles and decor

All textiles, namely tablecloths, curtains, towels and other elements, must correspond to the general background of the room and not contradict it. A win-win option would be calm, monochromatic colors. Light white curtains with black drapes look great. The main thing is not to overdo it with tone.

The main guideline for choosing textiles for the kitchen is the style of the room. In this case, the colors do not have to repeat the tone of the walls. You can add several accompanying tones to emphasize a certain focus or mood.

The second point that you should focus on is the relationship between the size of the room and the degree of illumination. For example, in a small kitchen with a small window, black curtains will be completely inappropriate.

If the furniture is also black, then it is better to get by with just white curtains. In a kitchen with high ceilings, short curtains made of different fabrics will look logical.

And finally

For real creativity there are and should not be any prohibitions or strict rules. If your soul demands beauty, and if you definitely feel that a kitchen in black and white is “yours,” then go for it! And don't pay attention to the rules. After all, the main thing is that you feel comfortable and that you want to spend more free time in this space.

After all, the most important thing for creating an ideal interior is a sense of taste, intuition, attention to detail and a thirst for beauty. If you decorate your own home carefully and with love for every corner, the result is guaranteed to be magnificent!

Design tips

As mentioned earlier, the combination of black and white allows you to actively change the perception of the room. It’s worth reading the designers’ secrets for creating a harmonious interior:

  • If the ceiling is low, then a combination of black flooring and white walls will help to raise it. But if the room is large, then you can use white walls and a black ceiling.
  • If you want to give the space volume and depth, then you should finish the apron in black against a white background of walls and furniture.
  • One wall can be made in a contrasting color. For example, if three walls are white and the fourth is painted black, then visually it will appear further away and the room will be larger.
  • If you want a black and white kitchen, but are afraid of making it boring, then you can take a closer look at the finishing option, which has black patterns on a white background. For example, choose skins with a similar pattern.

  • Another option to diversify a black and white room is to use multi-colored lighting. You can choose lamps with replaceable dark glasses or buy an LED strip where the tones can be changed using a remote control. The cheapest way to order them is from Aliexpress.
  • To give the design uniqueness and comfort, you can use decor. For example, decorative plants, pictures or even fruits.
  • If you have a great fear of making a mistake, you can choose a win-win option - a dark floor, white walls and ceiling. The kitchen unit is either completely white, or the upper cabinets and lower drawers are black.
  • If the interior turns out to be too strict and boring, you can add wooden surfaces, for example, a tabletop - the room will instantly become more comfortable.

The main feature of the symbiosis of black and white is that it has enormous potential and the possibility of transformation. By adding red elements, the interior will become more dynamic, by adding yellow, it will become cheerful, and so on.

Some more tips on color schemes

You shouldn’t make a black and white kitchen uniform; you should add a couple of bright accents. Very beautiful and versatile - the use of bright colored “spots” on the apron or kitchen facades, or even on the countertop.

A small corner black and white kitchen with a bright pattern on the work area will acquire a special life and radiance, and if there is a lot of space, then it simply needs to be decorated with such an accent. These can be bright stripes or stains, floral motifs, ornaments, photography, landscapes.

You can add color only in small interior details. For example, in a black and white kitchen, orange, green or blue curtains and lamps of the same color will look bright and fresh. The main thing here is to use one shade, and not to overdo it.

In a word, it’s worth experimenting and selecting decorative elements. After all, a black and white room is quite risky; it can be either gloomy and gloomy, or incredibly cozy and bright. It all depends on the details, and you should pay very close attention to them!
