Kitchen interior styles: review of the best 165 photos of modern design

/Design/

Choosing the style of your kitchen is a real pleasure! In this room you will conjure dishes every day, eat, communicate and greet guests.

What to look for when choosing a style, in addition to your very first associations and thoughts:

  • For lighting. If there is a lack of natural light in the kitchen, then southern styles, say, Mediterranean, should be chosen carefully. The fact is that in dim northern lighting, “southern” interior details can look like theatrical scenery.
  • On the appropriateness of details. When choosing a kitchen style, you can focus on the style of your home. So the interior will be a natural continuation of the external appearance of the building. If you live in a house of classical architecture, for example, in Stalin, then you should choose some traditional style, for example, Art Deco or Neoclassical. But the kitchen in a new building is best equipped in some modern style, for example, Scandinavian.
  • For the size of the room. Decorative techniques inherent in some styles can visually expand the kitchen, while others, on the contrary, “steal meters.”

Now let's look at the 14 main areas of interior design. To find out more information about any style and see more photos, click on the links with details.

American style kitchen

American style is the same classic, only simplified and more practical. In an “American” kitchen you can often see: a kitchen island, a sink by the window, paneled facades, an open space divided into several zones.

Rustic styles in kitchen design

Many people prefer a calm and cozy interior, which most closely matches the concept of “home.” For such lovers of a warm atmosphere, the best option would be to decorate the kitchen in one of the rustic directions. They are different from each other, but they are united by the warm atmosphere of a house in the village.

Provence

This style is imbued with the soulful atmosphere of the French province. Pastel colors, aged furniture and shades of lavender are an integral part of it. Natural materials are a priority, especially wood.

Country

This direction is divided into several currents. There is English, Russian and American country music. We can say that each country has its own direction. A distinctive feature is the abundance of national decor. Among the materials, the priority is natural wood and wicker.

Country - an abundance of decor and wood

Rustic

This style is called one of the varieties of country. It often contains ethnic elements, and natural materials are used for decoration and furniture. Also used as decoration are indoor flowers, especially large ones in massive pots.

Chalet

Another style that actively uses wood. The furniture is preferably massive, and the ceilings have wooden beams. The color scheme of the chalet style is harmonious and soft - contrasting colors are not used. Stuffed animals and their skins can be used as decoration.

Classic styles

Classics always remain timeless and never lose their relevance. There are several design directions that are united by a classical focus. It’s worth noting right away that the classic design is not suitable for small rooms, and also implies the presence of high ceilings.

Classic

Classics are distinguished by harmony and nobility. Furniture should be wooden and preferably dark shades, although there are many options using light kitchen sets. The decor is used not only as an accent, but also for wall and floor coverings. The use of various ornaments and bas-reliefs is relevant.

Neoclassical

Modern neoclassicism has many similarities with classic interiors, but there are also differences. The amount of decor is much less, and white or cream is used as the main tone. First of all, the neoclassical interior should be light. If the classics use only wooden furniture and parquet, then the neoclassics allows the use of marble or tiles for the floor and materials with imitation wood for the furniture. The styles of kitchen furniture used should be consistent with the overall design.

Rococo and Baroque

These 2 directions can be attributed to the same stylistic direction. Gilding, ornaments on wood, pompous furniture - all this is inherent in both Rococo and Baroque. To summarize, a beautiful description of such a kitchen is that of a palace, because the atmosphere with such a design is exactly that.

Baroque - pompous and bright

The main difference is that Rococo is less pretentious and allows the use of a wide range of colors, while Baroque is more pompous and allows the use of only light shades.

Art Deco kitchen

Art Deco loves symmetry, strict or, conversely, smooth streamlined lines, expensive and exotic materials, animal prints, metals, stone, mirrors, massive chandeliers. Do you want to imagine an Art Deco interior? Remember the movie "The Great Gatsby".

Which kitchen style should you choose?

After looking at many photos of kitchens and their descriptions, it becomes clear that the main thing you need to pay attention to when renovating your kitchen is the correct selection of furniture. All designs must match each other in appearance and functionality.

You need to choose the right furniture depending on the chosen style. For example, in modern style designs made of metal or plastic are popular, but in country interiors it is expected to use more wooden products. In Provence, you can install both metal and wooden products. True, they must have the appropriate appearance.

Choosing a kitchen interior style is a rather complex issue that requires special preparation.

Advice! You need to first evaluate all the features of the room, as well as select the appropriate decorative elements. Textiles should also be selected carefully. They must match the chosen style both in texture and appearance.

Experienced designers advise always taking into account the dimensions of the room. If the kitchen is small in size, then, for example, Baroque or Art Nouveau style is not suitable for it, but country or Provence style is quite acceptable.

All these nuances must be taken into account when the question arises of what interior style to choose for your kitchen.

Kitchen in Provence style

The interior in Provence style is simple and elegant at the same time. How to create an atmosphere of the French province in our apartments?

  • Natural color scheme;
  • Rough finish;
  • As if walls, furniture, decor had been worn out by time or exposure to the sun;
  • An abundance of linen and cotton textiles;
  • Floral prints;
  • China;
  • Flowers and plants in clay and porcelain pots.

High-tech and minimalism

The interior is done in cool shades with maximum use of usable space.

High tech

Distinctive features:

  • The main color palette is white, black and gray with small splashes of bright colors.
  • High-tech is distinguished by the use of non-natural materials in interior design.
  • The walls are made in one color, most often these are cool shades. When using wallpaper, the design can be graphic or imitate natural stone.
  • Floor covering with a reflective surface. Tile can decorate a small rug with a simple pattern.
  • The furniture is chosen mainly from steel and plastic with leather upholstery. To decorate the kitchen, use a varnished surface for the furniture.
  • Curtains may be absent, since the hallmark of hi-tech is minimalism.
  • If necessary, the kitchen can be decorated with straight curtains of a simple cut.
  • Kitchen accessories are selected in discreet colors. The dishes can be glass or plain; useful little things are preferably chrome or metal.

Minimalism

Similar in essence to high-tech styles, but unlike the latter, the interior uses natural materials and warm shades.

  • The main goal remains functionality. Spacious and bright rooms are welcome. The favorite colors of minimalism can be considered white, gray, black, and sometimes beige.
  • The finishing is done without the use of patterns or any images.
  • The walls are decorated with plaster or plain wallpaper.
  • The minimalist style is characterized by the use of furniture of simple shapes. A kitchen set made of natural wood with metal elements will fit perfectly into the overall interior.
  • Chairs are wooden, chrome-plated or covered with fabric.
  • Curtains can add some color to your kitchen. The windows will be decorated with discreet curtains, Roman blinds or blinds.
  • Minimalism does not tolerate a wide variety of decorative elements; pairs of glass vases will decorate the kitchen.

Loft style kitchen

For several seasons now, lofts have been loved by all fans of modern and photogenic designs reminiscent of factories and warehouses. In this case we use:

  • Rough brick in native color or painted with matte paint;
  • Concrete;
  • Edison lamps, garlands on black cords;
  • Beams on the ceiling;
  • Pipes and wires (you just need to leave them in sight);
  • Glass blocks;
  • Textured wood;
  • Metals.

Modern styles in the kitchen

The current interior, including the kitchen, does not obey certain strict rules. The main thing is that it creates a feeling of comfort and harmony. The style can be close to the trends of minimalism, loft, modern, Scandinavian motifs, hi-tech and others.

In some kitchens, well-chosen details from different directions coexist perfectly. However, there are some general rules that create a modern style in the kitchen.

The facades of the furniture sets are mostly flat and smooth, the design is laconic and simple. Handles are either simple geometric, sometimes hidden, and in some cases completely absent: cabinet doors open when pressed.

As materials for furniture, preference is given to chipboard or MDF, PVC coated with film. Expensive furniture is finished mainly with natural veneer, while budget furniture is finished with cheap wood-like materials. Glossy facades look impressive, visually increase the space, and reflect color well.

Cafe style kitchen

Be inspired by your favorite cozy cafes and assemble the kitchen interior according to the details:

  • Chalk wall paint or chalk board;
  • Panels with imitation masonry;
  • Framed posters (especially retro posters);
  • Bar counter and/or coffee table;
  • Checkerboard floor (if you like the atmosphere of American cafes of the 30s).

Eco style kitchen

The lack of unity with nature can be compensated with the help of interior design. Your kitchen will become a small portal to the forest edge, even if you live in an ordinary city Khrushchev house.

Here's how to do it:

  • Choose natural materials and light natural shades;
  • Use wood, natural stone, cork;
  • Place panels with vertical gardening on the wall: this is an eye-catching and calming “living picture”;
  • Arrange a small garden or vegetable garden on the windowsill;
  • Strive for minimalism in the environment;
  • Use wooden saw cuts, wicker rugs and furniture for decoration.

English style kitchen

Lovers of almost excessive comfort and maximum intimacy will really like England. In such a kitchen, time seems to stop, and the hands usually freeze at five o’clock, when the time comes to take out a thin, elegant service and add milk to the tea.

English style markers:

  • Deliberate crowding and abundance of details;
  • Wallpaper with checkered or vertical stripes, heraldic patterns, floral print;
  • Upholstered furniture, blackout curtains and tablecloths;
  • Kitchen backsplash, tiled hog;
  • A touch of “family” and tradition in the decor: sets, watches, engravings, beautiful jars for cereals and tea.

Modern kitchen furniture

When choosing furniture for a kitchen of this stylistic direction, it is important to remember that all items should always be in their place. Thanks to this rule, it becomes possible to conveniently use the kitchen and clean it, as well as rational space planning.

An important factor for the Art Nouveau style is the presence of sufficient free space, so the placement of heavy massive furniture is excluded here. In such an interior there can be no luxury or pomp, rounded lines, or various patterns. Everything is simple, strict and concise.

Regardless of the layout, the kitchen must have wall cabinets, which must be identical in design to the lower tier of the storage system. When ordering furniture, be sure to pay attention to the functional content so that the necessary items are always at hand. Open shelves in the Art Nouveau style are not welcome; everything must be hidden.

If the kitchen is spacious, then you can place a sofa near the table, thereby creating a comfortable dining area. The upholstery of the sofa must be made of natural or artificial leather.

If desired, simply install a table with chairs. Compact models are selected, made of metal in combination with glass or high-quality and aesthetic plastic that looks good. The advantage of such dining groups for the Art Nouveau style is their low cost, light weight and practicality.

If there is not enough space for a full-fledged dining area, then you can use an extended window sill or a folding stand as a table, which when assembled does not take up much space in the kitchen.
