Crafts from branches: popular ideas and stylish decor

In order to make the interior of your home individual and a little creative, you don’t have to buy expensive designer items. In order to make it like this, it is enough to use ordinary tree branches for decoration.

Original lamp made from dry twigs

Few people think about this option, but in vain, because dry branches are a very beautiful and sophisticated material with which you can create many original things for the home with your own hands. Tree branches will look very good and appropriate in any room, be it a bedroom, living room, bathroom, hallway or kitchen. They are perfect for decorating candles, decorating mirrors, creating an original cornice or hanger for things. Here everything depends only on your personal imagination!

How to process branches for decoration

However, before you make decor from tree branches with your own hands, it is worth remembering that only dry branches are suitable for creating it, otherwise, otherwise, you will have to dry them. It is not necessary to use the branches in their original form; they can be:

  • coat with wood varnish,
  • paint with spray paint,
  • or regular enamel in any desired color.

Instructions for processing branches

We offer you several original ideas of what you can make from dry branches for the interior with your own hands; no special skills are required for this, you just need to find a beautifully shaped branch.

Creating a New Year's mood

On New Year's Eve, we suggest making ikebana with your own hands from flowers. The manufacturing process can be followed in the example below.

For work, prepare flowers, in our case tulips, and cedar branches. Their number depends on the width of the vessel. Usually they take from 20 to 50 flowers, then there will be half as many branches. We will also need a vase, scissors, foam, a knife, floral foam, a glue gun, and it will be good to buy liquid so that the flowers do not fade.

We cut out a blank from the foam in the shape of a vase. Place a couple of drops of glue on the base of the vase and place foam in the middle.

According to the instructions, dilute the special liquid for flowers with cold water. Fill the vase, leaving only a quarter empty. We trim or tear off excess leaves or thorns in the flowers, leaving only the buds at the top. We cut the lower part of the stem obliquely. And then we insert the flowers into the foam one by one, leaving a little space for the cedar branches.

Then, we clean the cedar branches and fill all the free space with them. We do all the work in a circle. While creating a composition, periodically step aside to see where there is more free space.

Making ikebana from artificial flowers is the same as from ordinary flowers. You are presented with examples from photos.

Partitions in the room

An interesting and very original screen for zoning can be made from equal length, even dry branches. At the final stage, it is better to varnish such a partition; thanks to this, the finished product will acquire a certain charm. Such zoning will look not only interesting, but also very stylish. In exactly the same way, you can make a screen in the bedroom from identical branches.

The most important thing in the execution of such decor is to treat the branches well so that they do not fall off on the heads of the sleeping person in the future. You also need to secure them well so that they do not move when the mattress moves.

Wall decor

Painted dry branches with a large number of branches can be an excellent decoration for the living room.

  1. The main secret of this decor is that the branch should be a contrasting color to the wall .
  2. If the wall is dark in color, then the branch should be either light or with a metallic sheen; if the wall is in a light tone, then it is better to use branches in their original color or painted in dark colors.
  3. Also consider illuminating this wall decor. For lighting, you can use small candlesticks attached to a branch with glue, spotlights on the ceiling, or a garland randomly wrapped around the branch.

It is thanks to the lighting that such an unusual and rather original version of wall decor looks very impressive and can turn an ordinary wall into a stylish part of the room.

Kitchen decor

Dry branches will look very appropriate in the interior of the kitchen. So old batteries can be perfectly disguised with a screen made of dry twigs of the same length. A panel made of dry branches, which can be quite large in size, will also come in very handy in the kitchen.

It’s very easy to make such a necessary thing as hot pads yourself from ordinary branches. The trinkets on the refrigerator have a rather cute and original look, which can be easily made from small twigs and then glued to magnets. Its interesting and non-standard decoration of the kitchen with branches will add a special atmosphere.

Decor made from branches - that's how simple it is! (35 photo examples)

Designer imagination sometimes seems limitless, all sorts of available materials are used: stones, shells (in the previous review we looked at shells in interior decor), bottles, ropes, dry branches... And let's look at an interesting topic today - dry branches in the interior of a house or apartments.

To begin with, we note that dry branches will look great and completely appropriate in any room of the house: living room, bedroom, bathroom (provided there is a spacious room), hallway and, of course, the kitchen.

Decor made from dry branches will give the room some individuality, if not exclusivity. Such creative decor will help you instantly revive your interior design, as well as complement the room in a natural style.

To decorate the premises, you need to use dry branches; you can find them while walking through the forest (this year we have a lot of cut dry branches in the forest, so there is something to profit from). You can, of course, cut off fresh branches and then dry them, but why torture nature if there are a huge number of obsolete trees in a forest or park, right?!

Vases complemented with branches will look truly amazing. Any flowers in such vases are perceived as a single, natural composition. The prepared branches can be secured on top of the glass container - with glue or tied with ribbon.

You can also simply install the branches in a vase. For a successful combination, you need to select beautiful intertwining branches on which you can glue paper roses (we looked at how to make such spiral roses in a master class dedicated to Valentine's Day). In addition, branches painted in bright colors look great.

You can decorate candlesticks with this natural material; there are two options: glue the branches on top of the glass or simply immerse them in water poured into a prepared container. The last composition - with water, will be perfectly complemented by floating candles.

You can make an interesting screen from identical, even branches. At the final stage, it should be varnished; this finishing touch will give the product some chic.

It is impossible not to mention that the branches make beautiful, and most importantly, very convenient wall hangers or hangers.

Dry branches in the interior can be used more generally, as a bed structure intended for a canopy.

A curtain rod made from a thicker branch or thin tree trunk also looks unusual.

Coffee and dressing tables, as well as comfortable and surprisingly stable chairs, can also be made from simple branches.

You can decorate a mirror with small and thin branches, which will then fit perfectly into a country-style interior.

Alternatively, branches can be used to decorate wall lamps, ceiling chandeliers and table lamps.

In addition, branches can be used to decorate photo frames or create eco-themed compositions mounted on large panels. Such improvised paintings can find a place on the walls in the living room.

During one of our visits, we noticed an interesting lamp in the bedroom. Zhenya, the owner of a house in Vnukovo, said that during a walk she collected a bunch of branches, painted them white and attached them to an ordinary lamp using twine. The result is a stylish handmade that adds a little shabby chic to the modern bedroom.

Here is another option for how branches can decorate lamps.

Shelves for storing small items

Very cute and quite practical shelves for storing books, souvenirs, jewelry and other small items can be easily made from dry branches. Such decor only needs to be well fixed on the wall and supplemented with decorative finishing materials. Also, a wooden trunk can become the basis for several shelves in the form of a partition.

Functional use of decorative branches

In addition to decorative elements, dry branches in the interior of premises can also play more “responsible roles”. Available materials are used as additions to furniture, for example, columns for canopy beds, as well as, in fact, the headboards and legs of the beds themselves.

How does horizontal weaving work?

One of the most important aspects is the preparatory process. It is quite labor-intensive and painstaking.

To perform this work, you must have:

  • shovel;
  • pruner;
  • hammer;
  • knife;
  • screwdriver;
  • awl.

First, a fishing line is stretched, repeating the line of the future fence. The locations of the supports are marked.

Wicker fence made using horizontal weaving method

Columns with a diameter of at least 4 cm are prepared. For a long service life, it is better to install metal pipes, since the wood will quickly rot.

The depth of digging of supports should reach 50 centimeters. They are installed in steps of 30 cm. Moreover, for greater reliability, the step at the very beginning of the fence, as well as at its end, is made smaller.

The length of the post should be 20 cm greater than the height of the fence. For a high fence, thick rods must be prepared.

To ensure that the weaving is even, a plank is attached to the top of the fence support. When the work is completed, it is removed. But if a strong wind often blows in a dacha area, it is better not to remove the bar.

You need to start weaving the fence from the bottom. The thickest end is left in front of the initial support. Then it is intertwined with all subsequent pillars. The resulting edges of the branches should remain on one side only, which will allow them to be trimmed.

Weaving the second row must begin from the next post.

To make the fence more beautiful and attractive, before starting work, the branches can be painted or varnished to preserve the color of the willow. The paint coating will give the fence increased durability.

After weaving four rows, the product requires compaction. For this purpose, not far from the pillar, you need to knock on the fence with a hammer.

The lower part of the fence, located next to the ground, often begins to rot due to high dampness. To prevent this from happening, nails are nailed at the very bottom to prevent the fence from sliding down.

A similar operation, after completion of the work, is performed at the top of the support. Willow branches are fixed with nails so that atmospheric phenomena cannot affect its original shape.

Panel of branches

To create such decor requires a lot of energy, in contrast to simply making a “bouquet” of branches in a vase. Initially, you need to come up with a composition, for example, a heart or a bird, or a star, and then start implementing it. You can make this kind of decoration from dry branches with your own hands, and it is unlikely that anyone else will have it.

Beautiful autumn"

The process of making ikebana from branches can be traced using the example of a master class.

To work, you will need two orchid branches, tingi branches, a narrow vase 30 cm high, glass balls, and scissors.

Fill the vase halfway with glass balls. Then, place a thick orchid branch, about 55 cm high, with a slight slope to the left, in a vase. We place it in this way: the stem reaches the base and looks to the left at 15 degrees.

We take the second branch and place it in the vase, the slope looks 15 degrees to the right side.

Pictures and frames

Unique and inimitable paintings can be made from dry branches. To do this, you need to attach the branch composition to the wall and then surround it with a beautiful frame. You can decorate a photo frame with thin twigs or their cuts, pasting it in a circle. You can decorate a mirror in exactly the same way, which will look great on the walls in the hallway.

Crafts from branches - material preparation

For creative activities to decorate the selected room (this could be an entrance hall , a living room , as well as a kitchen and even a bedroom ), you will need well-dried branches. They are easy to collect during forest walks, and also to pick up in a public garden or park. You can independently dry the branches that remain in the garden after performing sanitary pruning measures.

Before work, dry material is carefully prepared for further use:

Inspected for cracks; Cleans from dust and dirt; Peeling areas on the bark are sanded.

To prevent the appearance of unwanted larvae in the house, it is necessary to carry out disinfection using a low concentration solution of potassium permanganate, known to many. Depending on the design, the branches can be painted in the desired tone, covered with stain or varnish.

Decoration of various items

Having brought home a bouquet, you can quickly make a creative vase using branches. To do this, take any suitable jar - plastic , tin, glass and cut pieces of branches slightly longer than the height of the container.

They are placed close to each other in a vertical direction on the outer surface of the jar and secured by tying it with a beautiful braid or ribbon. You can plant twigs on glue. Flower pots are decorated in the same way.

A decorative vase made of branches will decorate any table

To prevent the vase from losing stability to its bottom, the branches are not glued

To make this wonderful vase, in addition to the glass base, you will need: a glue gun, dry willow or birch sticks, and wire cutters.

  1. Harvested branches need to be cleared of bark. It is better to do this when the wood has not yet dried, so it will be much easier to remove the bark;
  2. Next, using wire cutters, cut the bare branches into small pieces. Their size should be calculated based on the height of your workpiece;
  3. After the material has dried, we glue each stick to the base so that we get a kind of lathing;
  4. It remains to give the glue time to dry for 10-15 minutes. Congratulations, the twig vase is ready!

Crafts made from branches will always find their worthy use in decorating the interior of a house or apartment. Their shape and size can be completely different, because different materials can be used to make them. Products made from bark, wood chips, driftwood, sawn logs or large branches, etc. will look good. It all depends on your imagination and personal preferences.

Branches installed inside a glass jar in a continuous layer along the entire side plane will look no less original. To prevent them from falling apart in a makeshift vase, the bouquet should be quite voluminous.

Vase decoration

Vase decor made from dry branches is a very stylish way to complement the interior of a room in Scandinavian and eco-style. You can use branches of the original color picked from the ground, but they do not look as attractive as if they were painted. When starting to color them, it is better to choose a color for the branches in accordance with the color scheme of the room’s interior. The most spectacular and stylish colors for this purpose will be gold, silver, white and black. Such original vases with decorated branches will look good on shelves, coffee tables and bedside tables.
