IKEA bar stools: photos of models and recommendations for selection

Selecting a kitchen according to style

By choosing Ikea kitchen fronts, you can decorate the interior in any style. Let's look at the most popular style variations.

Ikea kitchen in modern style

IKEA furniture is perfect for this style. In the catalog you can find many discreet, functional and stylish series that will easily fit into a modern interior.

It is recommended to pay attention to smooth facades without handles, which are equipped with closers. They are very popular among buyers as they create a smooth feeling while maintaining ergonomics.

Ikea kitchen in classic style

The classics do not lose their relevance, but are increasingly succumbing to the general trend towards simplification. In Ikea kitchen sets you are unlikely to find the rich decor characteristic of the style, but the laconic carvings on the facade create the necessary sophisticated look.

For such a solution, you can choose doors with glass inserts, which not only help control the contents of the shelves, but also allow you to bring the service to the fore.

Ikea kitchen in Provence style

Simple and at the same time luxurious, the style of the French villages remains relevant to this day. Ikea suggests fitting it into the space of your home by choosing light facades made of oak, walnut or ash.

It is unlikely that you will be able to save money - Provence loves only natural materials. Kitchen ensembles painted white will help you create an authentic design.

Ikea kitchen in minimalist style

This style is laconic in terms of means of expression, but is very practical and has a special aesthetics. The facades of such kitchens from Ikea are not endowed with decorative elements, but rather represent a single, flat surface.

Black, white or wooden sets look good.

Ikea kitchen in Scandinavian style

They say that Ikea became famous thanks to their Scandinavian-style models, showing the world what a kitchen space should look like.

It turns out that everything is very simple: light, clean, ergonomic and comfortable furniture, the decor of which is created by filling it.

Ready-made island table

The selection of such ready-made tables at IKEA is quite limited: only 4 models of different sizes. The choice in design is also small.

For example, the Vadholma series is suitable for an interior in a loft or scandi style.

Vadholm table with hanger

The “Tornviken” series is a good solution for interiors in country, Provence, shabby chic, vintage, etc. styles.

In the table below you can see the sizes of each model and prices.

SeriesDimensions, cm (width/depth/height)Cost, rub.Availability of a bar counter
VADHOLMA (art. 704.022.73)79/62,5/9024 999No
VADHOLMA (art. 803.661.18)126/79/9029 999Yes
VADHOLMA with hanger (art. 192.762.30)126/79/90.
The height of the hanger above the floor is 193 cm.
35 998Yes
TORNVIKEN72/52/9019 999No

The price for such a ready-made separate module is quite comparable with the alternative option - from cabinets and countertops. But here the advantage is in the design itself - open shelves, stylish design. You won't be able to create something similar from cabinet frames in a planner. This option is also easier to assemble and install.

It is not at all necessary that the island table matches the color of the kitchen set. In the photo below you can see examples of how to harmoniously fit it into the interior.

Color solutions for kitchens

Choosing the color scheme of the kitchen is an important step, which creates the overall mood in the room.

Ikea furniture ensembles are presented in the following variations.

White kitchens Ikea

The main trend, ideal for IKEA kitchens, looks stylish, modern, and cozy. The feeling of sterility can be avoided by using darker shades that add depth to the space, such as gray countertops or dark handles.

Many people try to avoid such a solution due to the impracticality of white, on which dirt is more noticeable. But the manufacturer took care of this by providing the headsets with easy-to-clean surfaces.

Wooden motifs

What could be cozier than noble wooden furniture with a deep texture?

Despite the widespread use of modern materials, wood will never lose its relevance, especially when decorating a kitchen in a classic style.

Black kitchens Ikea

Black Ikea kitchen sets look incredibly stylish and a little restrained, contrasting with the light finish of the walls or other objects.

This solution is suitable for a modern style, mainly due to its brevity.

Ikea kitchens in bright colors

You can “invigorate” the interior with the help of bright shades of IKEA furniture, which are used in combination with neutral colors.

For example, yellow countertops on a white background or a red facade of the first level in combination with a more restrained second.

Let's start in more detail about the interior of an IKEA-style kitchen?

In the assortment of stores you will find a lot of high-quality and relatively cheap pieces of furniture for the interior of the Ikea kitchen. All of them are made at a good design level, and are presented in various stylistic lines. If you just want to decide on a design style, then you just need to look at examples of ready-made kitchen interiors. To make your choice easier and save you from having to go to the store, we have prepared a series of photo galleries for this article.

Today we will talk about the interior design of a kitchen with an area of 10 square meters. m. It is also worth mentioning that in addition to the kitchen furniture itself, Ikea also produces all the necessary equipment. And having bought, for example, a wardrobe, you don’t have to worry about its configuration.

The kitchen can safely be called the soul of any home, especially if it also takes on the function of a dining room. Breakfast with a cup of coffee and the latest newspaper - this daily essential ritual takes place in the kitchen, where all family members gather together.

For a woman, a comfortable kitchen interior is of paramount importance, because here she spends a lot of time, shows her culinary skills, and therefore needs all the necessary cooking tools to be at hand. A photo of the kitchen allows us to evaluate one or another interior option for certain room dimensions.

The size of our kitchens is quite modest, but IKEA takes this important factor into account, so it produces furniture that allows you to save as much free space as possible. If you look at the photos of kitchens, you will notice how a small room can turn into a full-fledged kitchen, where there is both a working and a dining area, while its unique design is not lost sight of - after all, the housewife needs to have fun while cooking food for my family. You can see the kitchen interior options, photos are presented in this section.

Due to its enormous popularity, many began to feel shy about IKEA kitchens in the interior:

  • some are confused by the “catalogue” appearance;
  • others - simplicity;
  • thirdly, it belongs to the mass market and has a recognizable appearance.

The best way to combat this is to start with yourself, but you can, of course, also start with furniture.

Pros and cons of buying a kitchen from a Swedish brand

We analyze the obvious and non-obvious advantages and disadvantages.

pros

Possibility of furnishing a ready-made interior on a turnkey basis. IKEA offers all the necessary products: from furniture and countertops to shelves, rails for the work area and storage accessories.

The catalog also includes sinks, faucets and household appliances.

  • Convenient planner. It is always important to see how the furniture will look in the room, take measurements, plan the number of cabinets and the location of household appliances in order to provide the required number of sockets.

The buyer can make a 3D project on the Swedish brand’s website or come to their store.

  • Choose from different kitchen models. You can choose cabinets from the modular series - from the "Method" series, or ready-made designs - from the assortment of the Knoxhult series.

It's easy to vary the final cost by removing or adding modules to fit your budget.

  • Varied design. The number of variations in both color and design of facades at IKEA is amazing: matte, glossy, with or without patterns - it’s really easy to find the right model here and fit it into a certain style.
  • 25 year warranty. The company has warranty conditions described on the website. It applies to the Method collection. But this is still an unprecedented period, analogues of which are difficult to find from other manufacturers.

Minuses

  • Price. Relative disadvantage. The most budget series “Overbu” has left the Swedish brand’s assortment, so you won’t be able to buy a headset for 10 thousand rubles.

But the relativity is this: you can plan a Method project yourself, removing or adding options and thereby varying the budget. Ready-made kitchens from 13 thousand rubles are a set of two floor and wall cabinets.

You can choose designs for 15-30 thousand. In short, the range is large. There is also a “Sunnerst” model, but this is more of an idea for a summer cottage, rather than a furnished apartment and house.

  • Lack of uniqueness. Also relative. When you buy furniture and accessories in the mass market, there is no question of uniqueness at all, but now many are afraid of an interior “like from a catalog.” If this is an argument against it for you, you can always add personality.

For example, experiment with the color of facades and choose new items or limited editions, refuse replicated accessories.

How else can you transform IKEA kitchens?

Not everyone can change something in an Ikea kitchen with their own hands, so if no one in your family knows carpentry, then for further examples you will need the hands of specialists who can:

  • replace all moldings, baseboards, sockets and fittings on IKEA furniture;
  • add glass doors to cabinets and much more.

The cabinets on top previously did not have glass doors.

Instead of a top line of cabinets, you can use an original industrial-style pendant lighting system.

The cable runs through an aluminum pipe.

Everyone is accustomed to the fact that from below in the kitchen, drawers usually alternate with hinged doors. Have drawers in a row, like on a chest of drawers in your bedroom.

The kitchen set in the niche is homemade, but the wooden chests of drawers on the sides are from IKEA. They added an antique table and an antique chandelier.

The original appearance of the IKEA kitchen in this interior photo is due to force majeure.

All the furniture for this area was made in carpentry, but the quality of the furniture left much to be desired. They threw it away and, in order not to waste time, ordered an analogue from IKEA. The replacement was assembled using a large number of extras.

A game of contrasts in the interior of an Ikea kitchen

Not only the backsplash, but the entire wall behind the kitchen cabinets is part of the ensemble. The brighter the background, the more interesting the overall picture. Especially if the cabinets in the top line are not used.

In this design option, the wall was painted deep blue. Since all the rest of the kitchen furniture is white, the contrast makes the room look spacious and, most importantly, not boring.

It's hard to look for a dark kitchen against a dark wall. So if you need to hide furniture from IKEA, you should visually align it with the background. The darker the facades, the more unusual the effect.

In the example in the photo above, the wall was painted to match the facades, and the apron was laid with mosaic tiles.

Contrast is one of the most effective design techniques. The dark IKEA kitchen countertop in the interior photo will always look impressive above white cabinets.

Most often, IKEA kitchen buyers choose plain sets with the same texture. It’s worth moving away from this scheme if you want to be different from everyone else. You can combine dark and light facades, glossy and matte, colored and white, with open shelves and doors, smooth and paneled, with glass and bars, vertical and horizontal modules.

Another rare technique used in this kitchen is repainting the Ikea facades. Dark gray is not their native color. Also, handles on standard furniture were replaced.

Before painting, facades are cleaned and degreased. The PVC film is removed using a hair dryer. Veneer polish - with a special composition. The facades are pre-sanded and primed. You can paint with a spray can, a gun or a roller. If you decide to make two-color facades, use construction tape. You can also apply patterns - you will need to master the art of glazing (applying transparent layers of paint over the base color). The top of the façade is varnished. It is not necessary to completely repaint the facades. To transform your kitchen, just add bright colors to some details. In the photo above, almost all the cabinet furniture was purchased from IKEA and complemented with bright inserts. The kitchen set is partially repainted and equipped with new facades. The apron is covered with chalk paint, so you can write chalk notes on it.

IKEA kitchen facades in the interior do not need to be repainted, but rather painted with acrylic paint and secured with varnish.

If you are not confident in your painting abilities, use a stencil or vinyl stickers. Facades that you won’t wash often can even be covered with wallpaper. Theoretically, all the “bullies” that we practice with IKEA chests of drawers are acceptable with kitchen furniture.

Monolithic countertops added to the Ikea kitchen set

In this design project, an IKEA kitchen in a laconic interior was complemented with a concrete work surface.

The cast concrete countertop does not just lie on top, but frames the frame of the kitchen. And it looks brutal, and it won’t crush the Ikea “innards”.

Marble is not only an expensive material, but also heavy, like any natural stone.

Be careful: even with a minimum thickness of 2 cm 1 sq. m of such a tabletop weighs at least 50 kg. But of course it looks beautiful.

In this kitchen design project, the countertop in a gilded “frame” is made of marbled ceramics.

This imitation is a good alternative to marble; it leaves no traces of either hot objects or dyes. There are handmade tiles on the floor.

The idea for this IKEA kitchen project was embodied by traveler Pavel Polyantsev, where he ordered an 8 cm thick oak countertop and the same window sills. Another feature of the project is Spanish metal-look tiles measuring 30x60 cm.

Another interesting way to update an IKEA kitchen is to decorate not only the countertop with wood, but also the side wall of the frame.

For this purpose, you can buy special panels that cover the sides. These elements are suitable for the external and internal contours of the kitchen.

And in this house, the kitchen from IKEA was supplemented with slate countertops and tiled tiles on the splashback.

But the main thing is that the set was divided into two parts: with a sink along the wall and with a stove on the side. This solution allowed us to avoid the typical apartment layout.

By the way, the chairs here are also from IKEA - they were repainted in different colors.

The niche in the photo of this kitchen was made to fit the dimensions of the furniture purchased from IKEA.

The second part of the kitchen was welded from metal racks according to the designers’ drawings. There are open shelves here instead of traditional kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen in a niche

If you plan an IKEA kitchen so that it completely occupies the wall, the set will seem custom-made. Especially if you follow the rule: when the kitchen is from IKEA, then everything else should be from other brands. A blue glass table and Chinese-style carved chairs distract attention from the gray glossy MDF facades.

All the furniture in this kitchen is also from IKEA. The owners replaced some of the cabinets in the center of the composition with shelves and placed souvenirs on them. This technique helped to visually lighten the design and hide the IKEA “ears”.

A non-standard room layout will help add originality to the kitchen.

The non-standard layout of an IKEA kitchen in the interior automatically makes it original. One of the interesting techniques for small spaces is to visually combine the kitchen and living room areas. In the example in the photo, the TV area is finished with the same materials as the IKEA kitchen. The same tabletop is used for the cabinet; the wall behind the TV is also tiled, which creates visual unity.

Some of the kitchen furniture in this project appeared during the renovation process.

An attached cabinet with louvered doors on the right hides the gas riser and its outlet. To the left of the entrance is a standard building with a refrigerator hidden there. By the way, the cute backsplash above the countertop is actually floor tiles.

Kitchen layout design

Practicality is practicality, and design is on schedule.

Despite modern trends in home improvement, which are clearly aimed towards practicality, comfort and ease of use, for many people the issue of the appearance of furniture still comes first.

Sometimes it seems that people select a kitchen with the expectation that they will regularly show it to other people, which means it should look perfect.

What's really worth looking at is the furniture arrangement.

For example, an IKEA corner kitchen may not be suitable for parallel placement, because one of the drawers is made specifically for placement in the corner of the room.

Such little things need to be taken into account before purchasing, so that later you don’t sit with thoughts about where to put this box.

Room layout

Much depends on the layout of the room.

The IKEA trading model provides for the creation of an entire kitchen, with all possible solutions, and the buyer himself can then choose and buy only what he needs, or simply fit into the dimensions of the room.

If ready-made IKEA kitchens do not suit you, use their online designer. In it you will have the opportunity to set all the dimensions of the room, and only then begin selecting pieces of furniture, with the possibility of freely arranging them.

Next, you will only need to select a collection and start selecting only the furniture that suited you when assembled in the designer. Convenient, isn't it?

Materials

IKEA kitchen cabinets are made from DPS, and their thickness is 18 mm. The materials are of high quality, the service life is longer than that of potential rivals on the market.

The facades are based on three materials:

  • DPS with a matte or glossy film to choose from, or stainless steel.
  • High-density fiberboards There is an enamel finishing option.
  • The facades are made of solid wood , in addition to which there are wood inserts made of ash or oak.

Improved production technologies help create facades that are more resistant to light, moisture and chemicals.

The materials chosen by IKEA craftsmen do not fade, have dirt-repellent properties, and retain color and texture for a long time. Much less time is spent on cleaning, without losing functionality and practicality.

IKEA kitchen facades of 2020 will help you shape the room in such a way that you can use the space as productively as possible, while still having the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful appearance.

In such a kitchen it will be a pleasure to both cook and relax with family or friends.

Furniture selection

Selecting furniture often becomes a real problem for buyers, because it is usually purchased for a long time.

It is important to adequately evaluate the design and quality of the purchased elements, and also make sure that this particular model not only attracts attention, but will also please the eye for a long time.

If you're looking for an affordable, high-performance kitchen that combines functionality with style, IKEA kitchens are ideal. However, in search of original design approaches, it is worth turning to special manufacturers.

Household appliances can be a serious problem. You have to pay dearly for quality, and well-known companies are constantly releasing new product lines, gradually raising prices.

In an IKEA store, selecting household appliances will not be a nightmare for the buyer.

Refrigerators, stoves, hobs, washing machines, food processors, coffee grinders and kettles will be found for any visitor with the optimal combination of quality and price.

The assortment of small household items, textiles and decorations no longer depends on price, but on the overall style of the kitchen and the color scheme of the space.

The most popular design proposals are chosen in country, modern, classic, Scandinavian, and youth styles.

Kitchen island made from bookcases

Today I want to share another interesting project that started with some Ikea products. To do this, the authors removed the wall between the kitchen and living room to create one large space. “We had to put up a support column to prevent the ceiling from collapsing,” they said, “so we decided to make a kitchen “island.” In order to remove the walls, we had to add a column to the support beam. We built part of the island using bookshelves. For the project we used Ikea Billy bookcases (three cabinets) to create storage on the kitchen side. A kitchen countertop, the so-called Numerar, also from Ikea, was placed on top.

This is where I store most of my baking tools, trivets, and part of my cookbook collection.

On the living room side there are a couple of chairs and clapboard trim that matches the color of the kitchen to complete the look of the kitchen island. Everyone knows that the backs of cabinets have creepy fronts? So we don’t need them. And so, I covered it with clapboard, and it turned out nice and foreign. One of my sons always seems to be sitting in these chairs doing homework or surfing the internet while chatting with me in the kitchen. We finished the support column and ran the wiring inside it. It’s very cool that two sockets immediately appeared for charging and connecting laptops and iPads.

We purchased two brackets bare and painted them.

I hung this wire basket from the side of the island and it's very convenient. This is where you can keep paper plates and sandwich bags.

We did this project several years ago,

and no one thought to photograph the process,

but I will do my best to explain

in as much detail as possible about what and how we did.

To begin with, we demolished the wall to combine the kitchen and dining room, but the problem was that the wall was load-bearing. So we installed a steel column instead. Part of the column went inside the kitchen island, and therefore the island, as it were, disguises it and does not focus attention on it.

We purchased three Billy bookcases and two doors. Initially, we thought it would be convenient to have partially covered spaces, so we bought only two doors to install them in the center of a group of three cabinets. I finally decided that I liked seeing all the shelves open, so we removed the doors.

In the picture below you can see what it looked like with the doors. We can also see a steel column that has not yet been camouflaged.

We also purchased a Numerer countertop for cutting meat.

After assembling the cabinets, we needed to connect them to each other. To do this, we screwed the cabinets together, the heads of the screws were recessed into the walls so that they would not be an eyesore. Next, we built a small wall of foam concrete blocks, the height and width of Billy's bookcases. We installed two outlets on this wall and it turned out to be the best solution for us because it allowed us to plug in and use our iGadgets while charging them at the same time. We then drilled the required holes and installed the shelves. The shelves are thick, durable and solid. This is important for the kitchen.

Once the bookcases were in place next to the foam block mini wall, we used clapboard to cover all the ends and make it look like it was one solid piece of furniture. We attached the paneling with liquid nails and painted it.

After installing the brackets with screws, we cut the tabletop to size and attached ribbed baseboard around the island and on the support column. We sanded the table top where the cuts were made and soaked it in oil as a finish. This gave the countertop a darker, richer color.

I hope this helps explain a little how we did it. Believe me, nothing overly complicated. I know that a photo set of the process of building the island could be much more useful, but what is not there is not there. In general, it seems to me that everything is already clear, and I think it is unnecessary to describe everything step by step.

Modern approach to design

The modular kitchen assembly system is now the most popular on the market.

With their help, you can create an original, creative space, convenient both for cooking and for serving as a second living room. Decorating a room in your own unique style is the main trend of modern design.

Prefabricated modules will help to form a certain idea of the necessary details and style. The filling of the kitchen will leave the imprint of the owner, who has created his own unique world.

It is most convenient to form a modern space from “L”-shaped or “U”-shaped modules, choosing their size and height depending on the size of the room.

Such a designer will provide you with all the necessary options for transformation.

Chairs

Add a unique twist, form a geometric space, express the originality and creativity of the owner - all this can be done with the help of ordinary kitchen chairs.

No matter how small their role may seem, a comfortable, durable and stylish chair is one of the most important parts.

IKEA kitchens of 2020 provide a huge selection of chairs of all possible shapes and colors.

For a modern style, chairs of geometric shapes, made of one or two materials, and monochromatic are suitable. Provencal or classic style requires upholstered chairs, more massive, decorated with decor.

By sacrificing practicality and convenience, you can choose unusual, creative options made of iron or plastic, made in fancy shapes, combining bright colors and non-standard textures.

IKEA does not forget about small consumers.

Children's furniture is also presented in a wide range, and specialist designers will help you choose the ideal option for both boys and girls. Children's chairs are equipped with all necessary parts and are absolutely safe for children.

The IKEA catalog is constantly updated. Models from previous years undergo serious testing in order to “stay in rank” and become truly in demand among buyers. But preference is always given to newer and trendier models.

To achieve the greatest harmony of space, it is recommended to select chairs for the kitchen so that they are combined with textiles and eye-catching interior details. They echoed the color of the curtains and walls.

Every little detail in the kitchen is responsible for the formation of a unified style, and chairs among all the kitchen furniture are not at all an insignificant detail.

What you should pay attention to

Visually, you can select elements for the kitchen from an assortment of electronic catalogs and official websites. However, such a choice will be half “blind”.

Before making a purchase, it is highly recommended to visit one of the company's stores.

Having the opportunity to touch and figure out an approximate combination with other items you like, you reduce the risk of making the wrong choice significantly.

In the store you will be able to see not only the available options, but also find out exactly what colors and materials are currently in stock for immediate purchase; place an order if something needs to be delivered or specially made.

You should not neglect the selection of small elements - tabletops, handles, monograms.

Made from high-quality materials, durable, practical and stylish IKEA brand kitchens will leave any customer satisfied.

Ikea chests of drawers

The chest of drawers got its name from the French word “commode”, which literally means comfortable. Due to its compact size, numerous pull-out drawers and versatility, the chest of drawers has not lost its relevance in the modern world. The Ikea collection includes the following lines of chests of drawers and cabinets - HOPEN, MALM and HEMNES. Connoisseurs of the traditional style will love the VIGNE chest of drawers. The available options of the RAST series will perfectly decorate any interior with their presence, thanks to the use of natural materials as their cladding. HELMER AND ERIC rulers are made of metal and are specially designed for office equipment. See photos of ikea cabinets.

Colors and styles

When talking about choosing a kitchen design, most often buyers have in mind the choice of facades, because the style and color of the interior of the main place in the house depends on them.

The colors of the facades are for the most part only basic, neutral and restrained: white, gray, brown (from beige to dark brown) and black, but there are also red, yellow and green doors.

For a small kitchen, it is better to choose facades in light shades (white, gray, wood). Don’t be afraid of getting dirty; the impracticality of light-colored sets is often overestimated.

If you want something not too dark, but more practical and original than the common white kitchen, then pay attention to gray. It is very easy to care for and fits into any interior from Provence to American classics. The photo below shows a gray Budbin set.

And this is a more modern gray Weddinge.

Features of kitchen modules from Ikea

The main feature of the manufacture of kitchen solutions for modern buyers can be considered the principle of modularity. The company offers a wide range of models of furniture modules with different sizes.

By selecting modules to match the parameters of your kitchen and its geometric features, you can create a kitchen set without resorting to individual production.

If your kitchen has non-standard sizes and shapes, or built-in kitchen appliances are arranged in an unconventional manner, then you can use a special program (free on the company’s website) to calculate a furniture set to suit your parameters.

The company monitors the environmental friendliness of the entire technological process of furniture production - from the procurement of raw materials to the installation of the smallest fittings. Throughout the entire process, multi-stage quality control occurs.

Thus, the buyer can be confident that the finished product is safe for humans and the environment.

All products of the company's furniture sector are produced on the principle of interchangeability. For example, in order to refresh the appearance of the kitchen or radically change the image of the room, it will be enough to change the facades of the kitchen cabinets - their doors.

In some cases, it is possible to get by with even less spending by replacing only the fittings of furniture modules.

The advantage of this style of manufacturing ready-made solutions is that you can combine modules from various collections, create ensembles with facades of different colors, creating completely unique interiors at a very affordable price.

Most models of kitchen fronts are presented in traditional or modern styles with neutral colors, which allows them to be easily integrated into almost any design concept.

Every buyer will be able to find his own version of the style, color and texture of the furniture solution among a wide range of options.

The company is constantly expanding its range, looking for innovative ideas that would help improve the quality of finished products, their service life and technological characteristics. Ready-made kitchen solutions from Ikea are suitable for both spacious rooms in private apartments and small kitchen spaces in standard apartments.

Various ways to save space without losing the functionality and capacity of storage systems are constantly being introduced into the company's new collections.

Photo gallery of the best IKEA kitchen design ideas

This black and white IKEA kitchen in Zvenigorod features Spanish porcelain tiles with street graffiti designs. It was used both for the kitchen apron and on the floor in the work area.

And here is another example of an IKEA kitchen in the interior, although everyone sees in this London project only tiles in the shape of a web of hexagons.

Replacing the facades allows you to combine Ikea kitchen cabinets with furniture cabinets from other manufacturers. Most often this is required in rooms of non-standard sizes, when furniture, for example, in the top line is made to order.

We have already said many times - new furniture handles can transform any closet. On a kitchen set, you can use handles of 2 combining types - say, top and bottom. This is what you should hunt for at flea markets when you are in Europe, and not wander around on sales.

For the IKEA kitchen, located in a family dacha, designer Zhenya Zhdanova brought handles made of aged tin. A tricky trick - replacing traditional fittings with more decorative ones - is one of the favorites among decorators.

In order not to look for a suitable set of handles for furniture, use the popular combination that is called “for the lazy”: IKEA kitchen, Zara Home handles. Please note that the window sills in the apartment are made of IKEA oak countertops, as is the kitchen worktop - this is an important accent and additional solution for your design.

Anyone can replace standard IKEA handles and make their own. Leather can be bought in both handicraft and sewing stores. Suitable material is used in the production of bags. Decorative screws or furniture bolts are suitable for fastening. In addition, this way you can save on brass and copper. You read our article about how to update your kitchen interior using brass and copper, so this method also applies to Ikea kitchens, although it is not cheap. But homemade door handles will help not only transform the interior, save on fittings, but also put long-forgotten things to use.

Options for planning furniture solutions for the kitchen

Corner layout

One of the most versatile variations in the arrangement of a kitchen ensemble. The L-shaped layout allows you to place a sufficient number of storage systems with integrated household appliances in rooms of various shapes and sizes.

In this case, as a rule, there is enough free space to install a dining group, island or peninsula, which can be used as a place for meals.

In short, the corner layout allows you to create a full-fledged working and dining area, without compromising the capacity of storage systems or the size of household appliances.

In a corner layout, it is easy to create a “working triangle” by placing the stove or hob on one side of the unit, and the sink on the perpendicular one. The refrigerator can be installed separately or integrated next to the sink.

The L-shaped layout has few disadvantages. It is difficult to use only in walk-through rooms or kitchens with a balcony block or access to the backyard.

with lunch group:

with kitchen island:

with a peninsula:

Linear layout

The layout of a kitchen ensemble in one row is convenient for small kitchen spaces or families that do not need to install a large number of storage systems and integrate several household appliances into a furniture set.

Also, a one-row layout can be an effective solution for families who need to install a spacious dining group in a small kitchen space.

with kitchen island:

with dining table:

U-shaped arrangement of the furniture ensemble

The layout of the kitchen set in the shape of the letter “P” is advisable if you need to arrange a large number of storage systems with integrated household appliances. In this case, the upper tier of kitchen cabinets can be partially or completely replaced with open shelves (it all depends on the size of the room and your personal preferences).

  • In a large kitchen, the shape of which is close to a square, there will be enough free space to install a dining group or kitchen island in the center of the room.
  • If the kitchen space is very elongated or has a small area, then the dining segment will have to be moved to the living room or arranged in a separate room.

with kitchen island:

Parallel layout

With a parallel layout, kitchen modules are arranged in two rows opposite each other. This method of organizing a work area is advisable in kitchens that are walk-through rooms or have a large panoramic window, balcony block or door (exit to the backyard in a private house).

  • If the room is very elongated, then most likely there will be no free space left to install a dining group or kitchen island.
  • If the shape of the room is square or close to it, then a small (preferably round or oval) dining table can be installed without consequences for the ergonomic flow of all work processes.

With a parallel layout, it is easy to use the rule of the “working triangle”, placing its two imaginary vertices that “conflict” with each other, the sink and the stove, on opposite sides.

Mobile islands are most often made in the form of a cabinet or a structure with open shelves. Their main difference from all other pieces of furniture is the presence of swivel wheels, providing maximum convenience and mobility. If necessary, a kitchen island can be used as an additional work area, a dining table, a place to store kitchen utensils or an original piece of furniture.

Kitchen islands and tables on wheels become indispensable assistants in small rooms where literally every free meter is valuable. Despite their external compactness, most modern designs are equipped with spacious storage systems. For example, islands are often equipped with built-in shelves and hidden cabinets, which are convenient for storing dishes, kitchen utensils, cutlery and other necessary accessories. In addition, some modern models are complemented by hanging shelves for spices and towel holders, so that everything you need for cooking will always be at your fingertips.

Instead of storage systems inside, the kitchen island can be equipped with trash cans, which is very convenient:

  • firstly, it facilitates the cleaning process after cooking;
  • secondly, it allows housewives to free up space in other areas of the room.

There are also open models of islands, the design of which is more reminiscent of dining tables. In addition to their main purpose, such islands are perfect for storing large items or installing beautiful accessories.

The main task of a kitchen island table is to create an additional work area, so it is desirable that its tabletop be spacious and wide. If your kitchen area does not allow for a sufficiently sized island, pay attention to models equipped with a countertop extension system. The design of such islands is complemented by a sliding work area, so that when folded they take up very little space, but if necessary, their tabletop becomes as spacious as a full-fledged workspace in a kitchen set.

A kitchen island on wheels is convenient not only in terms of use, but also in terms of storage. Thanks to the rotating parts, you can easily change its location, installing it in the area of the room where it is most needed.

Some models of islands are so compact that, if necessary, they can be hidden, for example, under a table or shelves, thereby freeing the room from unnecessary items. By choosing an island that matches your kitchen furniture, or ordering it to be made according to an individual design, in a “hidden” form the product will turn into an integral part of the kitchen set.

Don't assume that kitchen islands on wheels are only useful in small kitchens. The convenience and compactness of these pieces of furniture allow rational use of the working area of the room, which incredibly facilitates the work of housewives, regardless of the spaciousness of the kitchen.
