Kitchen in the neoclassical style: interesting design trends, 90 photo examples

Colors

The most important tool in creating an interior is the tint solution.

Kitchen in light colors in neoclassical style

In the design of the kitchen space, neutral, muted colors from natural and natural colors are used. Light shades are perfect for the main background: snow-white, sand, powdery, lilac, beige or peach.

The use of gray, green, olive, blue and yellow colors is allowed.

The kitchen space in the neoclassical style, designed in ivory shades, has a very impressive and elegant look. Such neutral but expensive tones can transform a room and highlight elegant pieces of furniture. Milky color looks especially advantageous in combination with pearlescent.

Kitchens in dark colors

Chocolate, blue, burgundy, black and other shades from a rich, but not flashy, range are chosen as accents or companion shades. Dark colors in the kitchen are perfect for highlighting parts of the walls, apron area or furniture fronts.

The photo shows a kitchen in brown tones with black furniture and white chairs.

A dark and colorful palette allows you to emphasize the geometry of the room and make the atmosphere orderly. For example, the neoclassical interior of a white kitchen with black elements looks strict and at the same time expressive.

Room dimensions: what to consider?

It is based on the area that you should choose the configuration of the set, the colors of the kitchen in the neoclassical style, lighting schemes and decorative techniques.

Kitchenette: 5-7 square meters

Miniature spaces are most often designed exclusively as a place for cooking. At the same time, moving the dining group (and sometimes storage) to other parts of the apartment. If this option is not suitable, turn to the most compact furniture and appliances. Also, when designing a neoclassical kitchen with an area of about 5 square meters (sq.m.) in the interior of the apartment, you can pay attention to:

  • folding tables and chairs in neoclassical style for the kitchen;
  • folding tabletops;
  • window sill tables;
  • stackable chairs and stools;
  • transformable tables;
  • mobile solutions (carts, kitchen islands on wheels).

Compact space: 8, 9, 10 square meters

The average sizes of typical neoclassical kitchenettes (8, 9, 10 sq.m.) allow you to place both a set and a full-fledged dining group. And when using compact solutions and design techniques, you can even find a place for a mini-recreation area or for a home mini-office.

Large rooms: up to 20 square meters

Most often, such an area allows you to combine the kitchen area, dining room and living room in one space. Sometimes in large combined kitchen-living room areas of 18-20 sq.m in neoclassical style, judging by the real photos in the apartments, they also include a fireplace area, a home library or a mini-office. Or allocate a place for a pantry.

Huge: more than 20 square meters

When decorating a room of impressive size (for example, thinking through the design of a kitchen over 20 meters in neoclassical style), it is important to remember the mandatory visual division into parts - and use zoning techniques. Otherwise, the situation will turn out to be disorganized and illogical.

Materials and finishing

The floor in a neoclassical kitchen is decorated with wood materials in the form of parquet or laminate with imitation of natural wood - oak or rosewood. It is also appropriate to use stone, marble, porcelain stoneware or two-color tiles laid out in a checkerboard pattern.

Walls with textured wallpaper and glossy splashes look beautiful. They reflect the shine of light sources, giving the room pomp. For gluing, canvases in pastel colors with an unobtrusive pattern are suitable. The walls can be finished with decorative plaster, wood, glass or mirror panels.

In order to make the kitchen space in the neoclassical style more voluminous and deprive it of monotony, the top of the wall is lined with light-colored material, and the bottom is made in dark shades.

The photo shows a kitchen-dining room with an apron in the form of large-format marble tiles.

A two-level glossy or matte ceiling with a rectangular or round niche in the center is appropriate in the kitchen design. The ceiling plane is also decorated with decorative wood panels, decorated with baguette and stucco molding.

Kitchen interior in neoclassical style

Modern classic kitchens in the current sense are similar to American interiors, but in our country they are highly adapted.

Furniture and accessories

Abstracts:

  1. Matte facades with milling are the basis of the neoclassical style in the kitchen. If you remove the milling, the interior will become simply modern. Gloss is difficult to incorporate - it’s better not to risk it.
  2. Current built-in appliances without vintage imitations. More choice, lower price, natural look - there’s no point in pretending to be classic.
  3. Upper cabinets up to the ceiling. Making a kitchen to the ceiling is already standard for 2020. In neoclassicism, this can be realized with additional sections based on the mezzanine principle, transparent doors like in a buffet (I don’t recommend it), or by lowering the ceiling in the closet area as standard. At the same time, it will hide the outlet of the hood into the ventilation duct.
  4. All headset shapes are suitable for neoclassical style: corner, U-shaped, straight - it doesn’t matter. But you shouldn’t make a corner sink - it looks like it’s from the 90s.
  5. Light colors, built-in and solidity of all furniture - we get rid of dark corners. This is an alternative way to achieve coziness through a feeling of cleanliness, instead of a bunch of “cute” accessories.
  6. Tabletop made of natural or artificial stone (expensive). If you want to save money without losing results, then wood-look chipboard. And read about a Scandinavian-style kitchen and a white one with a wooden countertop (yes, a separate article because this is the optimal combination).
  7. Handles for furniture and doors, faucets, lamps, chairs and tables - everything can be done both in a modern style and in a light classic one. They cost the same. This doubles your scope for choice - such is the feature of kitchens in the neoclassical style.
  8. Single color modern curtains. Without lambrequins and other things. Roman blinds are possible. Details about choosing curtains for the kitchen and separately if it has a balcony door.

I strongly advise you to read my materials:

  1. How to choose and complete a kitchen - which fittings are worth overpaying for and which ones to buy the cheapest, how to choose kitchen technicians, etc.
  2. The design of a small kitchen is relevant for everyone because... There are all the ideas for maximizing practicality.

If you like brighter and less austere interiors, look at the material with a bunch of photos about kitchens in the Provence style - they have a lot in common.

Finishing

Neoclassical kitchen apron

Good:

  1. White boar (white bricks)
  2. Marble tiles
  3. Made from countertop material (budget option if chipboard, expensive if stone)
  4. Glass plain (no photos behind it)
  5. Large stone tiles

I do not advise:
  1. Small square tiles and mosaics. From the point of view The design looks good, but there are a lot of seams. And the grout is not stable enough for an apron. The less it is, the better.
  2. Patterns and patchwork. After all, neoclassicism is a strict, respectable style, and a bright apron attracts a lot of attention.

Floor

Tiles of any direction are suitable for the kitchen floor in the neoclassical style, provided they have a natural color scheme and a light shade. Those. You can't have bright or dark. It is possible with an unobtrusive pattern, offset to match the decor (although I do not recommend both options).

Beveled laminate in light, unsaturated colors without tint (neutral, not warm or cool). It is important. A dark laminate or one that goes red, yellow or brown will not fit into the warranty. If you want a wood-like floor and countertop, then choose either in contrast (white or gray floor) or very similar ones. The middle options are bad.

Plinth in the color of the interior doors.

Read about choosing flooring for the kitchen - there is also information about joints and transitions.

Walls

In real photographs of interiors, everyone likes apartments with white painted walls, but when it comes down to it, for some reason they are afraid and think that it will be boring or “like in a hospital.” Don’t be afraid and it won’t be - this is a standard option in a neoclassical kitchen. This is not an accent, and people don’t notice it when they look at photos - but you should notice it.

Decorative plaster and stone as accents (but not on all walls!). Try to highlight them.

Wallpaper to be painted in light colors, or accent monochrome for 1 wall. About wallpaper for the kitchen.

Photo wallpapers and frescoes are a very risky option, but sometimes it works out.

Ceiling

I am a supporter of single-level matte white ceilings when it comes to an ordinary apartment. If the kitchen is combined with the living room, you can get smarter.

The standard is a step above the upper cabinets so that there is no gap between them and the ceiling. For neoclassicism in the kitchen, ceiling plinths are also used. If there is a lot of money, you can do the 2nd level and stucco (without fanaticism). Although if the budget is not unlimited, there are ways to spend money on renovations more rationally.

Furniture

Neoclassicism welcomes both laconic kitchen sets and those decorated with moldings and gilding. Lathing and glass inserts are appropriate - the main thing is that the interior remains harmonious and not overloaded with details. As a lightweight style option, a simple, no-frills model is suitable.

The photo shows a light kitchen set and a dining area with chairs with blue fabric upholstery.

The working surface and countertops are made of natural or artificial stone. A wooden or glass dining table will fit perfectly into the decor. Chairs often have curved backs, graceful legs and are distinguished by smooth outlines. Soft armchairs and a sofa are complemented by upholstery made of velvet, velor, silk fabric, leather or short-haired fur.

The Armandi studio specialists will select accessories and a decoration method that will allow the curtains to become a decorative accent in the neoclassical interior of a large living room or a small cozy bedroom .

Lighting

The main source of light is a multi-level chandelier, which serves as an accent element of the kitchen. It is made from glass, metal or crystal.

Spotlights or spotlights with the most discreet design are built into the cooking area. It is also appropriate to complement the neoclassical style furnishings with sconces and floor lamps with large lampshades, as well as lamps stylized as candles.

The photo shows a small kitchen decorated with a white ceiling chandelier and spotlights.

Lighting nuances

The central chandelier of a classic design is the main element in the overall kitchen lighting system, which not only takes on the direct function of lighting the space, but also claims to be an accent decor.

To stay within the style limits, choose a multi-tiered design made of glass and crystal. There can be a lot of lamps - this is especially welcome if the area is large and even the minimum requirements for lighting the room are quite serious.

Additional lighting can be created using hanging lampshades: place them in accent areas to create the effect of diffused light. The main thing is that its quantity should be enough for comfortable use of all kitchen functions. Everything else is strictly up to your taste.

Note - use warm shades to create a pleasant homely atmosphere. The cold temperature makes the room sterile, and this leaves no trace of neoclassical harmony.

Curtains and decor

Fabric curtains are an indispensable element of the kitchen space. To decorate a window opening, plain curtains made of semi-gloss silk are often chosen. Neoclassical style curtains harmonize in color with the overall interior design. The canvases have a simple design without elaborate decor, lambrequins and flashy ornaments.

The photo shows a window decorated with Roman blinds made of translucent fabric.

The furnishings are decorated with practical, high-quality and at the same time luxurious accessories. The table can be decorated with a linen tablecloth, and open shelves can be complemented with painted dishes, colored glass decanters and sophisticated glasses.

In the neoclassical style dining area, paintings with still lifes, porcelain figurines or vases with fresh flowers will look great.

Color palette

The restrained color scheme corresponds to the internal concept of the direction. Expensive, respectable design prefers neutral shades, complemented by mother-of-pearl and metallic. A white neoclassical kitchen is often combined with black. The contrasting duet is manifested in the following elements:

  • contours;
  • decor;
  • technique.

Natural colors do not irritate and do not create visual illusions.

Natural patterns are found on wallpaper, textiles and furniture.

Natural materials do not stand out from the general concept of space design.

Gray kitchens in the neoclassical style are combined with white. The shades resemble shadows in appearance and create an effect of calm and elegance.

The ivory color, complemented by turquoise and mother-of-pearl trim, looks aristocratic. The space of the room visually increases, the design adds a touch of freshness and lightness. Options with dark gray look elegant and expensive.

It is better to decorate a bright kitchen in the neoclassical style with wallpaper with an azure pattern.

Beige and sand harmonize with mother-of-pearl decor. Terracotta, wood or chocolate finishes look more textured. The neoclassical interior does not like bright, toxic colors, so the patterns of the apron and door handles will never be flashy.

Photos of kitchens in the interior

Neoclassicism loves spaciousness and free space. Therefore, this style will fit perfectly into the interior of a kitchen in a country house with high ceilings and panoramic windows.

In the design of the house, the neoclassical kitchen is emphasized with the help of expensive finishing materials, the ceiling is decorated with beams and the room is furnished with solid wood furniture. In order to make the environment more elegant, the kitchen space is decorated with carved details, mirrors and paintings in exquisite frames.

The photo shows a spacious kitchen-living room with a massive dining table and a false fireplace.

A fireplace decorated in the best classical traditions will bring special luxury to the interior. The hearth with royal ornaments, gilded and bronze elements looks very impressive.

Features of the neoclassical style: updated tradition with modern decor

The interior of the kitchen and living room in neoclassical style is varied. You shouldn’t limit yourself to decor only in the kitchen; it’s better to combine the design with the living room or dining room. Since the variety of styles in combined rooms looks inorganic, therefore, connecting the working kitchen area with the living room is a prerequisite for neoclassicism. This is not only comfortable in all respects, but is also the main feature of neoclassical and classical styles.

The luxury of neoclassicism is perfectly realized in the interior of a modern kitchen.

The design features high ceilings, an uncluttered workspace and free space for decoration. The symmetry of the lines is clearly suitable here, as it makes the room more calm and subdued. It is from the rigor of lines and compositions that a feeling of order and harmony is created.

When choosing a neoclassical style for your kitchen, be prepared for the fact that it will cost a lot of money

If we talk about furniture, then it is worth choosing light sets of light shades and other furniture sets. You should not use embossed bulky kitchen sets and other decorative items.

Important! The basic rule in neoclassicism is not to clutter the space with unnecessary objects and not to use bright, rich colors.

Features of the design and decoration of the kitchen and dining room in the neoclassical style:

  • clear lines and complete symmetry;
  • restraint in color and luxury in furnishings;
  • absence of unnecessary details;
  • natural materials in decoration;
  • exquisite decoration elements;
  • delicate color palette.

Besides everything, an important feature of the neoclassical style is the decoration with accessories; there should be a small number of them. Almost always, the style is characterized by panels and still lifes in massive beautiful frames with baguettes. An antique wall clock and porcelain dishes, figurines and vases will also fit perfectly into the interior.

Neoclassicism was invented by passionate fans of the classical style who did not want to see archaic museum halls in their home

But ornaments and monograms should be used to a minimum, since neoclassicism already has a lot of small details. Metal finishing, forged legs, genuine leather covering and expensive textiles with curtains are suitable for decorating furniture and other pieces of furniture.

Note! The neoclassical style has many conditions for stylistic design: the main thing is the presence of ample space and the connection of the kitchen area with the living room.

Such an interior will emphasize the solidity and good taste of the owners of the house.

Small kitchen design

Designers advise choosing white or light shades as close to it as possible for neoclassicism, which contribute to the visual expansion of space. The gloss on the surface of kitchen facades will make the room even more light and weightless.

In a small kitchen, functional modular items with spacious drawers are installed, only the necessary household appliances and equipment are placed. The neoclassical interior is not overloaded with elaborate decor and draperies of complex shape.

The photo shows a neoclassical style in the design of a laconic small-sized kitchen-dining room.

The best option for recreating the neoclassical style in a kitchen with a small area is a corner set. This design will save useful meters and allow you to allocate more space for the dining group. In this case, the refrigerator can be placed separately next to the doorway. An excellent solution would be to install a compact dome hood.

Main features of the style

Classic interior design, both in ancient times and in the 21st century, requires a lot of free space to place furniture and interior items. Therefore, a kitchen in a neoclassical style is suitable for a large apartment, private house or studio.

In addition to the footage of the room, neoclassicism also differs in some design nuances:

  1. The general appearance of a neoclassical kitchen gives the impression of a rich interior.
  2. It is important to have the latest multifunctional household appliances.
  3. Lightness and airiness in such an interior are combined with clear proportions and linear forms.
  4. The use of bright, “screaming” colors, bold combinations of shades is not allowed - in neoclassicism, the design of the room and furniture should be sophisticated and noble.
  5. The lighting is bright, natural light is complemented by a large ceiling chandelier.
  6. The cabinets have doors, there are no open shelves - any household items are hidden from the inhabitants of the house until the moment of cooking.

The main principle of a neoclassical interior is sophistication combined with practicality. For such a kitchen, a corner set with a separate bar counter and a dining table placed in the center of the room (as in the photo below) is suitable.

Strengths and weaknesses of the interior

Based on the main features of neoclassicism, we can highlight the pros and cons of this interior style. The advantages will be:

  • a sense of harmony and order in a neoclassical kitchen due to strict symmetrical lines;
  • environmental friendliness, durability of apartment renovations thanks to natural materials;
  • visual expansion of space using light colors;
  • comfortable cooking process, ensured by the use of modern technology and proper arrangement of work areas.

Among the disadvantages of neoclassicism, one can highlight one - the high cost of the interior.

Decoration of the kitchen-living room

The interior of the kitchen-living room assumes a traditional placement of functional areas. The cooking area is located near the far wall. The dining group is separated by a bar counter or island with an additional work surface. Next is a place to rest.

The layout of the kitchen unit depends on the configuration and size of the kitchen-living room. Both straight and angular or U-shaped designs are appropriate here.

A set with an island module, ready to serve as an impromptu dining room, is also suitable. In neoclassicism, unlike classicism, taking out the dining group is optional.

The photo shows a kitchen-living room with an L-shaped set in a dark azure shade.

You can also choose a sofa as a compositional center. The rest of the furniture in this case is installed around the perimeter of the room. The furniture set is also complemented by armchairs, ottomans, a coffee table or coffee table.

A buffet with glass doors, hanging or floor-standing cupboards for dishes will fit perfectly into the interior of the kitchen-living room.

Window decoration

Windows in a modern interior are an important element responsible for the distribution of natural light. Neoclassical kitchen models from floor to ceiling visually expand the space and make the room huge. Options with multiple doors and cross-shaped decorative beams bring a sense of quality to the room.
