What are two-color stretch ceilings - types, installation rules

Two-color stretch ceilings have recently become increasingly popular. And designers are increasingly using them in their work. Firstly, well-chosen tones look very beautiful and give the room an extraordinary look. In addition, single-level two-color stretch ceilings provide an excellent opportunity to correctly zone a room. Another advantage of them is that they have almost no effect on the height of the room.

This is important, for example, for Khrushchev’s apartments with low ceilings. In addition, they are much cheaper than other types of suspended ceilings (except, perhaps, white).

Design options

Several types of ceiling structures.

Single-level

Two-color seamless fabrics or products with a seam welded together create a smooth surface located in the same plane. These models are affordable, have a compact and sleek appearance and fit perfectly into small spaces.

Two-level

Such two-color designs are not only stylish, but also a very practical decor option. They perfectly hide defects and unevenness of the ceiling plane, mask various communications and perfectly cope with zoning space.

How are such ceilings made?

The technology for manufacturing canvas painted in several colors is not too different from the standard one. The same type of material is used as for a regular ceiling. The only difference between them is that they will consist of a certain number of fragments welded together.

You can choose any color that is available for the selected type of material. There are both matte solutions and glossy film options. If desired, you can combine textures with each other in one product. Otherwise, the production of such products does not have any serious differences.

Types of textures of suspended ceilings

The appearance of the entire room will depend on the type of surface. There are three types:

  • Glossy.
  • Matte.
  • Satin.

Pros and cons of two-color stretch panels

Two-color stretch ceilings may differ in their design. The easiest way to make single-level coverings is with a canvas made of film of two colors. In the second case, a two-color ceiling is obtained by making a two-tier structure, each tier of which is hemmed with a film of a different color. To make a one-level two-color stretch ceiling, two panels of different colors need to be welded.

The advantages of multi-colored panels include the following:

  1. Film ceilings, even with a welded seam, can withstand large volumes of water and reliably protect your property from flooding from above. A high-quality seam can withstand a load of 200 kg/cm².
  2. The design of the room can be diversified if you use a film that differs not only in color, but also in surface texture. Such ceilings are used in different interior styles.
  3. Any tension covering hides defects in the base, communications and is suitable for installing built-in lighting.
  4. A stretch ceiling of two colors divides the room into separate functional zones.
  5. Stretch film coverings are allowed to be installed in rooms with high humidity and dirty surfaces, for example, in the kitchen or bathroom. The ceiling surface can be wet cleaned using detergents.
  6. Two-color coverings made of stretch fabric are environmentally friendly and harmless. They are allowed to be used in homes where allergy sufferers and small children live.
  7. The service life of the tension covering reaches 20-30 years. Throughout the entire period of operation, the surface does not fade, does not become electrified, does not fade, and is not subject to damage by microorganisms. Stretch fabrics do not attract dust, do not absorb odors and dirt. They do not support combustion.
  8. One of the main advantages of such ceilings is their quick installation. In a medium-sized room, the coating can be installed in a day. During the installation process, virtually no construction waste is generated.
  9. The price of film panels is lower than that of fabric panels. Even people with average incomes can afford the cheapest white matte PVC films.
  10. On such ceilings you can do hand painting and apply images using photo printing.

Forms of adhesions in two colors

Various forms of soldering allow you to create interesting ceiling solutions.

Curvilinear commissure

Original curved connections can visually expand the space and therefore such canvases are especially suitable for small or elongated rooms. In addition, various wavy configurations create a relaxing and soothing atmosphere in the room.

Square

Rectangular or square geometric joints create crisp, straight lines and a beautiful two-tone contrast. This solution is very stylish and unusual.

Circle

Using a round or oval shape, you can create an accent in the middle of the ceiling, which will look quite original.

In the form of a pattern

Soldering the tension material allows you to bring any bold idea to life. Curvilinear patterns look elegant and impressive and add elegance to the atmosphere.

Bathroom and toilet combinations

Blue and blue shades that are reminiscent of the sea and sky are suitable for these rooms. To get the effect of expanding the room, part of the film is selected under the tiles.

Ceilings are used to zone a room. A different color is used to highlight the installation location of the shower cabin and bathtub or to emphasize the space allocated for the dressing table and mirror.

The larger the bathroom, the fewer barriers to the designer’s imagination. Several colors, or photo printing on one of the canvases, or complex combinations of tones and light would be appropriate here. Advice - do not overload the design with details.

Stretch ceilings are not only monochromatic, but also multi-colored. Combinations of shades and textures make the entire room unusual and memorable. There is no need to build a second tier, so installation is not complicated and height is not lost.

Arrangement of paintings

There are many options for placing two colors on the ceiling. The most successful and attractive of them are the following:

  • Diagonally.
  • In the center.
  • Along the contour.
  • Stripe in the middle.
  • Multiband.
  • In half.
  • Chess order.
  • In the corner.

General characteristics

Stretch ceilings appeared in Russia quite a long time ago. This new product created a sensation at the time and immediately gained popularity. Tension fabrics could be found in city apartments and country houses. Despite such popularity, decorating the ceiling in this form is still considered an original and fashionable solution.

After installing the structure, an ordinary ceiling acquires sophistication, lightness and original color. All surface irregularities and flaws are easily covered by a stretch ceiling.

Connoisseurs of extraordinary and stylish solutions will appreciate two-color models. The combination of several colors creates an expressive decorative effect. The ceiling can become a key element of the interior. Designers combine paints of different saturation, brightness and temperature. Most often, canvases of two colors are used in modern trends, especially those characterized by catchy shades.

Stretch ceilings of this type can be single or multi-level. By combining two colors, the first option acquires volume and external resemblance to multi-level ceilings. Clients choose the appropriate design depending on the size of the room and personal preferences. Two colors on the same level set the dynamics of the overall decor.

Two-tone tension models also come in a variety of design options.

However, what works great for one room may not bring any dividends for you. Let's try to highlight all the advantages of using two-color stretch ceilings so that you have an idea of what it gives to others and why this interior solution can bring satisfaction to you:

    - together with well-designed lighting is one of the main advantages of using several shades in one room;

    is a very delicate point, because often in the pursuit of the best you lose the good - and as a result you are left with your nose;
  3. natural camouflage of utilities and any ceiling defects
    - especially important if you use several levels;
  4. maintaining color balance in the interior
    - when you have 2 colors on the ceiling surface at once, it is much easier to select furniture for the room, decorate the walls, floor and arrange accessories.

Are there any disadvantages?

Compared to conventional stretch ceilings, two-color stretch ceilings have only one obvious drawback - a noticeable seam at the junction of the two panels. It is impossible to avoid it due to the peculiarities of the technology, but it is quite easy to brighten up such a nuisance with the help of lighting directed in the right direction.

Another drawback of such suspended ceilings was voiced a little higher - this is a serious conflict with low rooms in the case of installing two-color suspended ceilings on two levels. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to resolve it: perhaps by choosing the method of pairing two canvases of different colors.

And, of course, you shouldn’t discount the cost. Price

for two-color stretch ceilings is slightly higher than for ordinary ones: after all, the process of preparing the canvas takes more time, and the consumption of different fragments of material will be greater.

So, we discovered 3 main disadvantages of two-color stretch ceilings:

  1. barely noticeable seam (0.5 mm);
  2. the impossibility of two-level structures in low rooms;
  3. slightly higher price.

Now think about whether these shortcomings are an obstacle to the implementation of your curious design plan? If not, then move on!
