Characteristics of blinds and their varieties
It is immediately worth noting that blinds are not full-fledged doors, that is, they cannot fully replace them.
This is a type of partition. If you still want to use them as a door with all the functions, then you can combine them with a regular leaf, preferably glass. Now blind structures are offered in various configurations, among which the following stand out:
- Vertical, which are a classic version of the office type. The slats are located vertically; they can be moved to the side using a special mechanism.
2. Horizontal - the same familiar design, which has been popular for use on windows for a long time. If the slats are made of metal, then such blinds completely replace the door leaf.
3. String - thread-type blinds, which serve more of a decorative function and protect from direct sunlight.
4. Accordion is an excellent design option for a doorway. They can be called an analogue of an accordion door, but with a smooth movement mechanism.
5. Roller shutters are also an ideal solution if you need to replace a door. They consist of horizontal elements that move along guides, thanks to which you can easily fix the desired lift or completely close the blinds.
Interior doors with the effect of blinds stand out especially. They represent a frame, inside of which horizontally located lamellas are installed. They look very advantageous and refresh the design. They fit especially harmoniously if the room has cabinets with doors of the same design. Such models are made from various materials, including polymers, wood, metal and others.
Louvre door history
Blinds translated from French means jealousy. This is a light-protective structure consisting of plates, “cilia”, so-called lamellas, vertical or horizontal mounting order, movable and stationary. Window blinds are a relatively new idea, having been patented in 1841 by John Hampton.
The louvered door is another matter; this idea has its roots in Ancient Greece. Clever Greeks used louvered structures in the openings of their houses, and from there, this idea spread to the countries of the Ancient East, then the Roman Empire and Medieval Europe. As a rule, countries with a southern climate adopted this experience. This idea came to Russia quite recently, although something similar stood in the attics of the houses of peasants and noble gentlemen in pre-revolutionary Russia, and was called a “dormer window”.
Entrance louvered doors
Such models are made of metal. They are protective roller blinds that rise horizontally. This design has a number of advantages over traditional metal doors:
Louvered roller blinds
- Metal shutter doors weigh much less, so they do not require the installation of reinforced canopies and massive frames.
- These doors have an electrical device for ease of control;
- These doors are harder to break into than regular ones.
For louvered doors, slats with a width of 45-77 mm are used, made of hollow or filled profiles. Doors made from a hollow profile are lighter, and inside the filled one there is a foam layer, which creates additional sound and noise insulation.
Attention! The wider the bar in roller shutter doors, the more reliable they are considered.
Why are blinds instead of doors so popular?
In the interiors of both an apartment and a house, using blinds on a doorway can be a very interesting idea, which, among other things, has many advantages:
- Light weight, thanks to which the structure will not burden ceilings and walls.
- Originality and uniqueness of appearance compared to conventional canvases.
- Unobtrusiveness and freeing up space. They do not take up much space, and if necessary, they can be completely raised or completely dismantled without deteriorating the appearance of the opening.
- The ability to zone a room by installing a structure in the form of a partition.
But not every interior has blinds on doorways. Many are simply afraid to install them, since the designs have a list of disadvantages:
- Low level of sound insulation. No blinds can provide the same protection from external noise as conventional door leaves. In addition, even with the help of seals it will be difficult to change the situation.
- Less reliability. Over time, any product model, as well as its mechanisms, become unusable and lose not only their quality characteristics, but also their original appearance.
- Difficult care. Slats can sometimes be quite difficult to clean from dust and dirt, which cannot be said about a regular door, which can be washed without difficulty.
- Inability to protect the premises. In some cases, a reliable structure is required that will protect the room from outside penetration. Blinds cannot perform such a function, with the exception of roller shutters, which can protect to some extent.
Important! It is worth remembering that not every interior style will have louvered doors look laconic.
Design features of a folding door
The door leaf of the accordion design consists of several panels that look like blinds. When opened, all panels fold like an accordion. The first segment is attached to the opening, and the second is connected to a roller, thanks to which the movement is carried out. All parts are attached using metal hinges.
Scheme of the suspended structure
The sliding model also includes trim, door frames, installation parts and roller runners.
Ideal for narrow openings
How can blinds fit into a room?
When placing blinds in a doorway, you should carefully consider the choice of design of the canvas and its placement relative to other objects in the interior. So, depending on the placement, the following options are distinguished:
- Structures instead of interior doors and partitions. This is an excellent choice for rooms that do not require permanent insulation, such as the living room. A louvered partition will help out when combining a kitchen and a living room or a toilet with a bathroom.
- Blinds for the balcony. Provided that the balcony room is fully insulated and glazed, you can install such a canvas as a design for a balcony doorway. At the same time, when the partition is raised, the space will increase, and in the balcony room it is quite possible to make an office or a small corner for relaxation.
3. Louvre structures for the storage room. This option is the most common due to the fact that the blinds do not overload the interior and allow air to pass through perfectly, which allows you to create the correct microclimate for things in the pantry.
4. Combination with a door. Often this combination is found to decorate the external entrance to shops and institutions. In an apartment, this would not be very appropriate, unless the door leaf has glass inserts and the blinds are of lightweight construction.
Installation of louvered doors
Consider the installation of accordion doors:
- We prepare the doorway. Remove old plaster from the surface if it crumbles. If the doorway is smaller, use extensions and bars to obtain the desired width.
- We prepare the guide profile, measure the required length, and cut off the rest.
- We screw it to the opening using self-tapping screws.
Louvered doors in the interior
- We assemble the door panels according to the instructions that should be included with the purchase.
- We attach special runners, which are sold as a set with the door, in the center of the upper end of each section.
- We attach a lock, handle and latch to the assembled door.
- We turn the guide so that the sliders are inserted into it.
- We finally secure the top rail.
Advice! For constant air circulation in the room, leave a 5-7 cm wide opening at the bottom of the door.
Louvered doors are not only a beautiful and stylish part of the interior, but also useful. They do not interfere with the entry of fresh air and light into the room. In addition, such doors are very easy to adjust and install independently. And retractable shutter doors help save space.
Features, pros and cons
Furnishing an apartment involves not only purchasing new furniture and finishing surfaces, but also involves purchasing new doors. When you want something unusual, you can install blinds instead. An unusual solution will decorate a modern interior and give it liveliness. It is important to consider that blinds act only as partitions between rooms or are used for zoning. If you plan to replace entrance doors with them, the products are combined with regular canvas.
What is the difference between blinds:
- Original design. Door blinds have not yet received widespread use, and therefore they look unusual and attract attention. Manufacturers offer models in different colors, which simplifies their selection to a specific interior.
- Light weight. Lightness is one of the advantages of blinds. They weigh several times less than a door and do not load the openings. Thanks to this, they can be transported to any distance.
- Possibility of zoning. Blinds, purchased instead of a door, allow you to divide the space into parts. Arrangement of functional areas is a suitable option for a studio apartment and large halls. For this purpose, you can specially create partitions to delimit the room.
- Easy to install. Even a beginner can handle installing blinds. They have a clear design and do not require the use of specialized tools.
- Functionality. The models fold and unfold easily. If necessary, the blinds can be removed or moved to a new place, and during operation it is possible to regulate the amount of light entering the room.
Despite the large number of positive aspects, blinds have a number of disadvantages.
- The products are not capable of providing sound insulation, so you will hear everything that happens in the next room or area.
- The service life and strength of the product are several times lower than that of conventional doors. At the same time, replacing the blinds with new ones is not difficult, so this operation is carried out every few years.
- Models require constant care: elements must be regularly wiped from dust.
Blinds are not able to protect the room from penetration, so they are not used to replace entrance doors. To strengthen the products, metal roller shutters are used, making the structure more durable. In addition, blinds are not suitable for every interior.
They will stand out from the design of a classic room, however, they will perfectly complement a room in the Art Nouveau style.
Varieties
Blinds are used to separate rooms. Manufacturers offer several models of these accessories. First of all, they are divided into horizontal and vertical. The former are the most famous and widespread type of blinds. The elements are located parallel to the coating and can be opened and closed if necessary.
Vertical accessories can reach the floor or end higher; the slats have different widths and are usually made of fabric.
In addition, products are divided into types depending on the function performed, design features and aesthetic characteristics:
- Sliding. An original solution that references Asian style in the interior. An option for those who value high functionality and practicality of products combined with an unusual design. They are installed directly on the doors and slide apart together with them. Such blinds will look good on balconies and in country houses.
- Decorative. They play a purely aesthetic role. Light blinds hardly protect the room from light, dust or dirt, however, they can be made in non-standard colors, decorated with patterns and small details. Suitable for installation on additional partitions in the room.
- Foldable. A modern design idea, invented and brought to life by German specialists. Blinds consist of a continuous sheet of fabric, on which folds are located parallel to each other. The model is durable and flexible and retains its original appearance for a long time. Blinds are suitable for interiors in which clear lines and strictly observed proportions dominate.
- Harmonic. Vertical doorways connected by fabric or leather. They are assembled using a rail, which rides on top or bottom using special fasteners. The model is used as partitions or for cabinets, including built-ins.
- Curtains-blinds. Lightness, variety of shades, unusual design - all these are the advantages of this model. Mostly they are installed on the balcony, because the accessories additionally serve to protect the room from bright sunlight. The blinds are made in a rich range of colors, have compact dimensions and are easy to install.
- Anti-vandal. The models are characterized by increased resistance to external mechanical influence. They are equipped with anti-burglary roller shutters that serve to strengthen the structure. The models can be installed on doorways of any size, while the area is completely covered. In case of emergency, the shutters can be easily opened without impeding evacuation. The advantage of protective roller shutters is that they are completely invisible when raised.

Economical version of the accordion door
The use of accordion doors is a modern solution for a country house or apartment. Such a design can perform not only a functional, but also an aesthetic role in the setting.
Materials
Accessories are made from different types of raw materials. The operational and external characteristics of the products, their appearance and service life depend on this. This also affects the price, which depends on the specific brand. Types of blinds depending on the materials used:
- Wooden.
- Metal.
- Plastic.
- Iron.
- Glass.
- Silicone.
- Aluminum.
Accessories made of wood look original and are suitable for interiors made in natural colors and minimalist rooms. At the same time, wood is susceptible to moisture and burns easily. Metal (iron, aluminum) blinds are durable and wear-resistant, however, they weigh a lot and are not suitable for classic rooms. And glass accessories will decorate ultra-modern interiors. To extend their service life, blinds are coated with protective agents and impregnations that reduce the negative impact of the environment.
Silicone models are a modern solution that looks unusual and conceptual. They additionally protect the room from dust and dirt particles, are lightweight and easy to transport. Such accessories can be transparent, only nominally playing the role of a door partition. At the same time, the model is perfect for zoning and visually delineating different parts of the room, while at the same time creating the effect of unity of space.
The nuances of installing accordion interior doors
The choice of models depends on the characteristics of its installation and subsequent operation. The plastic version is suitable for rooms with high humidity levels. Wooden products are for offices and living rooms, and glass products are used for zoning space and for terraces. Studying photos and prices will help you choose quality products. It is important to install an interior accordion door correctly.
Detailed installation instructions

Helpful information! When choosing a model, you need to pay attention to the tightness of the valves.
Dimensions
The dimensions of the blinds are directly related to the width and height of the doorway. They can cover it completely or not reach the floor, which is also taken into account when purchasing. Rectangular blinds are considered standard, however, there are also square models. Sometimes blinds take up only half of the doorway or have an unusual shape - it all depends on the design idea of the room owner. The production of accessories to order allows you to set any dimensions of the products.
Popular colors
Blinds are made in a wide range of colors, which allows you to choose them for almost any interior:
- White accessories are versatile and fit perfectly into a monochrome design.
- Blinds made in sand and vanilla tones also go well with other items.
- When choosing variegated models, you should pay special attention to color compatibility. Blinds should be in harmony with the base shade of the room and not create the effect of a pile-up of tones.
- Blinds made in pastel colors will complement a bedroom or a bright kitchen. In this case, it is recommended to avoid sharp color transitions, decorating the entire room in a calm palette.
- Playing with contrasts is an option for a room in the Art Nouveau style. Blinds can have a shade opposite to the wall covering, giving the room liveliness and dynamism.
In any of the listed cases, take into account that the design should not contain more than 2-3 colors at the same time.
Main advantages and disadvantages of folding systems ↑
The main advantage of folding doors is that they do not clutter up the space either from the bathroom, or from the hallway or corridor. The fact that the structure does not seal the room hermetically and cannot boast of high thermal insulation properties may seem like a disadvantage, but it promotes natural ventilation, reducing humidity in the bathroom.
Both the book and the accordion door to the bathroom have one significant drawback - very low sound insulation. This indicator is almost impossible to improve, since the canvas is not solid. As one of the options for solving the problem, you can consider soundproofing the bedroom and other living rooms.
Another disadvantage of accordions is their fragility. It is important to know that the lifespan of the structure depends on the quality of the fittings, so you will have to pay special attention to it when choosing. Of course, the intensity of use also affects the period of flawless operation. Ideally, it makes sense to install a folding bathroom door if it will be in the open position during the day.
A folding door will not protect against noise and cold
Interior placement options
Door blinds act as partitions, limiting both rooms and zones. Depending on the installation location, accessories of different widths and lengths are chosen, which also affects the functions they perform. Thus, blinds can play a purely decorative role or hide part of the room from prying eyes.
Where are door blinds installed:
- In the doorway.
- On the balcony door with a window.
- As interior doors.
- To the storage room.
- To the toilet.
- To the dressing room.
The most common option remains installation in a doorway - the solution is practical and functional. When installing blinds between rooms, reinforced roller shutters are not required; any materials will do.
When placing accessories in a toilet or closet, you should make sure that they are durable and visually protect the person or objects located inside.

How to install?
Installation of door blinds is carried out by yourself. First of all, you should decide on the type of installation of accessories. The most common type is external. In this case, the box with the roller blade is located above the doorway, and the tires are located on the side of it. Built-in installation involves installing fasteners inside a niche, while combined installation requires a special recess in the upper part.
Stages of installing door blinds:
- Before installing the blinds, the components are checked.
- Marks are made every 40-50 cm, after which holes are drilled for fasteners.
- The outer surface of the strip is drilled.
- The structure is leveled horizontally and vertically using a building level.
- Places for through drilling of parts are marked; there they will be attached to the wall.
- Using a hammer drill, holes are drilled that reach the drive.
- The control mechanism and assembled roller shutters are installed.
- Final fastening of roller shutters.
At the last stage, the final finishing of the blinds is carried out. Dirt and construction dust are removed, accessories and decorative caps are installed. If necessary, the seams are sealed and the seams are waterproofed. Special impregnations will protect accessories from rotting and ice formation.
Installation of doors for built-in wardrobes
Almost any type of door for built-in wardrobes can be made by hand, with the exception of roller shutter doors (blinds).
For this purpose, there is a wide selection of PVC products and furniture panels of various textures, weights and sizes, a wide selection of fittings and accessories for any door design.
The most difficult part in terms of installation is the installation of sliding doors. It is necessary to understand the mechanism of the guide installation system, the suspension system, the installation of anti-sway stops or the bottom guide.
But the most important thing is to measure the size of the door leaf very correctly, both vertically and horizontally.
Vertically, it must take into account the height of the canopy structure (guide + rollers + fastening system), and horizontally, it must take into account the overlap of the panels by 40-50 mm so that there are no gaps between the panels.
Blind cabinets in Moscow
Such cabinet models are relevant in both modern and classic interiors. Blinds have been used as a decorative element hundreds of years ago. For traditional interiors, a hinged wardrobe with louvred fronts would be an excellent solution; for modern interiors, sliding wardrobes using guides would be an excellent solution.
Custom shuttered cabinets will be an excellent decorative element. Thanks to proper filling, the presence of rods, shelves, drawers and other functional elements, it will be possible to properly organize the storage of things and keep them in excellent condition.
A white wardrobe with jalousie fronts will be an elegant addition to the Provence, English or classic style. Thanks to its atypical design, it will become a decoration, a highlight of any interior, emphasizing the individuality and impeccable taste of the home owner.
Doors made from furniture roller shutters (blinds)
Quite rare doors in built-in wardrobes. This is explained by the rather dull, monotonous structure of horizontal blinds, which are essentially what these doors are. And low functionality - neither on the front nor on the inside of such doors can you mark any accessories (mirrors, shelves, hangers). It is inconvenient to use when you have to lean towards the floor to open and close it.
But for a balcony or loggia, such a shutter door for a built-in wardrobe is almost an ideal option. Usually, I use cabinets on balconies and loggias either for storing winter supplies, or for all sorts of rarely used things and objects. Therefore, the use of the closet is quite rare. Such a door does not take up any space - the blinds do not take up space. It can be made to any width and, when opened, provides simultaneous access to the entire contents of the built-in wardrobe.
The material for making doors and blinds can be wood, metal, or plastic.
The main advantages of the blind cabinet:
- exclusive look;
- natural air circulation;
- ideal for regions with high humidity;
- wide selection of colors and designs;
- equipped with any opening system;
- can be used in damp areas.
Cabinets with louvered fronts are visually light and aesthetically pleasing. The design of impressive dimensions with louvered facades will look light and elegant. Due to the lamellas that transmit light, a weightless effect is created.
Materials used
In addition to the main material of the accordion canvas, be sure to pay attention to the mechanism, fittings, and fasteners.
Give preference to high quality chrome steel and aluminum. This will allow the doors to fold easily and last as long as possible. And for the mechanism to work well, it should be periodically treated with a special lubricant and dirt in the rails should be cleaned.
Among the materials used for accordion doors, the following can be distinguished:

. Special glass is used that is not afraid of mechanical and other loads. Then the fragility of the structure will be only an illusion; - Metal
. Quite interesting and widespread material. Thin but durable. The variety of coverage is impressive.
I think there is no need to explain that light doors add visual space to a room, while dark ones, on the contrary, steal it.
In terms of the decorative component, be guided by your own taste and personal preferences.

Scope of application: interior, outdoor
Blind products can be used in any opening where style and originality are needed. Even an old cabinet or kitchen set can be improved by replacing its doors from regular ones to louvered ones. And if you are assembling new cabinet furniture, then God himself ordered you to be unique. Niches, pantries, mezzanines, kitchen facades, radiator screens - all this can become a louvered miracle. In this case, we can offer you a sliding (compartment) or folding (book) opening.
Due to the fact that we have our own production and we have the ability to change the size of the structure in all three dimensions, we are expanding the scope of application of blinds. We are ready to offer you interior louvered doors with a leaf thickness of 35 mm. You won’t find anyone like this, it’s not just unique, stylish and daring.
How do you like the option of a sanitary door with louvered grilles on a rotary mechanism? Or a pendulum one for a bar-restaurant, on spring hinges. Mandatory in the house as an interfloor structure, improves ventilation of rooms. After treating the product with yacht varnish, it can be safely used outdoors, as a second entrance or as window shutters.
Solid wood louvered cabinets
Solid wood cabinets occupy a separate niche in the furniture industry. Of course, you need to pay more for such furniture, and this is an option for those who are not ready to sacrifice health and comfort for the sake of saving. Today, even the younger generation is interested in the content of harmful substances in chipboard, needless to say about the fragility of such structures.
A kind of know-how, among other models, are louvered cabinets made of solid wood. These are modern and environmentally friendly products that provide comfortable storage and optimal ventilation, while at the same time acting as a decorative element.
- Design. The structure of louvered facades consists of a strong frame, between which thin slats are fixed. All components are made of solid beech, oak and other durable woods.
- Color. Blind cabinets can be in any color, which allows them to be used in any finished interior. It is possible to coat it with a glossy varnish, which will highlight the unique texture of the wood.
- Air circulation. The design provides for the presence of small cracks, which ensures ventilation of things and eliminates the accumulation of moisture. Things inside do not suffocate, moths do not grow in them - they do not tolerate fresh air, preferring secluded and warm corners.
- Stylish design. The blind cabinet looks stylish and neat; the variety of wood types and colors allows you to install such cabinets in any room, be it a bedroom, living room or hallway.
- Durability. The use of solid wood and high-quality components ensures comfortable use for many years.
Possible opening methods
Louvered cabinets, produced by the furniture factory "Mobius", can be with different opening systems:
- Swing. The traditional and most popular version. The doors can occupy the entire height of the structure or be divided into several small ones. Thus, a hinged wardrobe can contain many sections, adapted for storing various wardrobe items.
- Accordion doors. The doors move along a special rail, carefully gathering to the sides like an accordion. An excellent option for small rooms; no free space is required to open swing doors.
- Coupe. Combines high style and functionality. The doors move along guides, ensuring convenient use of all internal compartments.
How folding doors work ↑
The design of folding doors consists of vertical panels connected by hinges and ribbons made of leather or thick textiles. The elements move easily along the guide rails, folding neatly. Durable metal guides are installed only at the top, which eliminates the presence of thresholds and any other debris collectors on the floor. It is curious that folding doors are not an invention of our time; their prototypes appeared in ancient times.
The canvas of the “book” consists of two wings
By type, folding doors are divided into book and accordion. The books consist of two doors, which makes them stronger and more durable. The accordion door for the bathroom is assembled from many sections of the same width. This design folds very compactly like a blind and is especially attractive in cases where the doors are not closed very often.
In a bedroom with an accordion bath, you can separate a private area from the rest of the room. In this case, if necessary, you will be able to retire for hygiene procedures without creating permanent partitions. Inside the combined bathroom, the folding structure is convenient and practical to use to divide the space. For example, if the only room is used by all family members, you can install it between the bathtub and toilet.
The accordion is assembled from narrow panels
