Design of a small bedroom - creating comfortable conditions

Narrow room: general interior design tips

Use different colors. For long walls, choose lighter colors, for short walls, darker ones. This will make the room seem more square.

Don't be afraid of pops of color, paintings, posters, and unusual wall textures. They add dynamics to the space and complicate its shape.

If the room is not only narrow, but also small, use light colors as much as possible.

Choose non-rectangular interior items: square or round paintings, carpets, lamps. This technique will distract attention from the elongated shape of the room.

Try to use horizontal stripes in your design. They help visually change the geometry of space.

Create niches. Different wall depths kill the tunnel effect.

Place mirrors on long walls. This will help visually expand the room.

Lay parquet or laminate flooring perpendicular to the long wall. Otherwise the room will seem even narrower.

Style selection

When arranging a non-standard room, it is important not only to use its entire area, but also to choose a style design. With its help, even the most bizarre perimeter can be played in a favorable light.

Broken lines fit perfectly into modern trends. For example, in high-tech, for which an unusual zigzag outline and defiant shapes are important.

You can move to an uneven modern room. He accepts unusual solutions, even if we are talking about a round niche or a cut wall. This style is worth choosing if there is a column in the middle of the studio apartment.

You can also play around with winding perimeters in fusion style. Especially when it comes to partitions.

Narrow living room design

The long living room can be divided into zones. For example, highlight a dining or work space and a relaxation space.

Upholstered furniture can be placed along long walls or perpendicular to them. For an elongated living room, corner sofas or a composition of a sofa, armchairs, ottomans and a coffee table are suitable.

But do not overload the room with massive furniture. For example, it is better to replace a bulky wall with a shelving unit, chest of drawers or built-in wardrobe.

Use open shelves. Firstly, they save space, and secondly, they create horizontal lines that expand it.

When arranging furniture in the living room, leave a clear passage from one part of the room to another. A complex zigzag will only increase the number of broken vases and bruises.

Using a bay window in the living room interior

An architectural structure may belong to a house or an apartment, and therefore the options for its use may differ. In private houses there are more rooms than in standard apartments, and therefore in a large glazed niche you can organize a living room with a dining room, a relaxation area, and a place for receiving guests.

A bay window makes any room much brighter and more welcoming.

In an apartment, a bay window niche can be a couple of square meters in size, which limits your imagination when renovating and decorating. In an apartment, a ledge is most often used to decorate a room, placing a large floor vase there, fresh flowers in pots and tubs, or leaving the space empty, decorating the windows with beautiful curtains.

In a private house

A stylish living room design with a bay window suggests functional or decorative use of the glazed space. In private homes, the ledge can be quite extensive, allowing you to create a real dining or lounge area there.

Decorating the bay window in the same style as the room will unite the space into a single composition

Depending on the style of the interior, they choose the method of decorating the bay window area; for example, for a classic design, the idea of organizing a dining room in a glazed niche is suitable. In this case, a dining table for 6-8 people and chairs are installed in the glazed space, then it is necessary to create additional lighting above the table and the option of a living room with a dining area is ready.

The shape of the dining table directly depends on the design of the bay window

On the sofa, located with the back to the window, it will be convenient to read books or leaf through magazines during the daytime

For modern interior design, a lounge area option is suitable, when a soft corner is installed in a niche, wall lamps are hung and a small coffee table is added. The lounge area can be organized in an oriental style, then the room will acquire a unique flavor.

In the apartment

In apartment halls, bay windows are usually not large in size, and therefore the niches are unlikely to fit soft corners or dining tables with chairs. In this case, you should choose a decorative way to use the niche or create a cozy reading place or a small seating area there.

To create a cozy corner for a pleasant tea party, you need very little space

In the first case, you will need an armchair, a floor lamp or table lamp and a small coffee table, which must be placed inside the ledge. In the second case, you need two armchairs, a coffee table and a beautiful wall lamp to create a cozy atmosphere. The chairs can be wicker, for example, rattan, and if you hang Roman blinds on the windows, you will get a Mediterranean-style seating area.

A couple of comfortable chairs will make the bay window a great place to relax

In a small bay window you can organize a work area by placing an office table, an armchair and a table lamp there. This option is ideal for a bedroom, but in the living room of a small apartment the design will look organic and functional.

Furniture made to individual sizes will fit perfectly into the bay window and make the most of the space.

Rational use of a bay window will make the living room more comfortable, practical and beautiful.

Narrow bedroom design

If you have enough space, it is best to place the bed across the room towards the window. This will visually expand the space and save more space in the room.

A compact built-in design that leaves no gaps between the bed and the wall would also be a good choice.

Avoid large closets. In the bedroom you can add storage space under the bed.

Or above the bed. For example, in the photo below, hanging structures solved two problems at once: a storage space and a niche were created that visually expands the room.

And don't forget about zoning. An elongated bedroom, like the living room, can be divided into zones.

What techniques can be used to create a successful interior in a small room?

If your living room should serve as a bedroom at night, then you should listen to the advice of professional designers who will help you create a harmonious interior with your own hands.

If the layout of the living room in which you are going to arrange a bedroom is not entirely comfortable, and the room has a rectangular shape with a door and windows on opposite walls, then your task should be to visually transform the space into a more spacious one.

To do this, designers have at their disposal a win-win technique that you can use during DIY repairs. To expand a narrow living room, just wallpaper the walls with horizontal stripes. In this case, only narrow walls should be striped, and wide ones should be painted in a single color that matches the color of the striped wallpaper.

This is easy to do with your own hands, and the result will be effective.

You can play with color to visually expand a narrow space by using contrasting colors. And also, use the designers’ favorite techniques of playing light, using mirrors to expand the narrow part of the room, visually expanding the room with the help of low furniture.

You should definitely use color and light when the windows face north. Using warm shades in a room, you can create a feeling of the presence of sunlight. And bright lighting adds warmth to the room. North is not the best location for a living room or children's room, but for a bedroom, north is quite suitable. After all, little time is spent in this room during the day, and little lighting is enough for sleep. Thanks to artificial lighting and warm colors in the interior, you can create coziness and comfort. Therefore, when considering the layout of the apartment, it is better to allocate northern rooms for the bedroom.

Narrow nursery design

If you have two children, then a symmetrical arrangement of furniture along opposite walls can save a narrow room. In addition, each child will have good lighting and ventilation.

If the children's room is very narrow, a bunk bed will come to the rescue.

A loft bed for one child is also a good functional solution.

DIY children's room. Children's room layout

We have four girls, so we allocated the largest room for the children’s room - 24 square meters, adjacent to it is a utility room, popularly called a “pantry”, with an area of another 3 square meters. While thinking about how to decorate the children's room, we decided that the closet would make a great little dressing room. Thanks to this solution, the useful area of the maiden room expanded to almost 27 square meters. We had to take into account that the layout of the children's room is quite unusual: it is pentagonal. The house is L-shaped, the room is located on a bend, which is why there are five corners. This has its advantage: two windows, respectively, two radiators; only the piano is visible from the front door.

So, a pentagonal room for four girls. The age of the eldest at the time of entry into the apartment is 8 years. When thinking about the interior design of a children's room, we take into account: sleeping places, a work area, a piano, an exhibition of drawings, a lot of clothes and mountains of toys. This is what we got.

Narrow bathroom design

Install the bathtub or shower along a short wall. This will visually expand the room.

If the bathtub is located parallel to a long wall, it is better to keep the curtain open or abandon it altogether. Otherwise, you will narrow the space even more.

Don't forget about open shelves. They clutter up the space much less than cabinets.

Attic: custom bedroom project

A practical attic bedroom should be well suited to the needs of its users. This is important both when creating a preliminary floor plan and when choosing furniture and equipment.

A slanted bedroom should ensure safety when getting out of bed. Therefore, you should avoid placing the headboard under very low parts of the room.

Attic niches can be used to create additional space for deep cabinets or small storage areas. Thanks to this, you will get an additional spacious area for storing various small items.

The heart of every bedroom will be a comfortable bed. It’s definitely worth choosing a sleeping place based on the number and growth of users. A small attic bedroom for a child can contain a small single bed with a decorative frame.

In the case of a matrimonial bedroom, larger beds will work better. A modern large bedroom can have a comfortable bed measuring 200 x 200 cm or even 220 x 200 cm. When choosing this type of furniture, you should make sure that the location of the sleeping area allows you to move around the room comfortably. It would be better if the head of the bed was leaned against the wall to create room for passage. Thanks to this, you will get greater comfort in using the attic room.

Narrow kitchen design

In a narrow kitchen you need to value space. Therefore, try to use the entire perimeter of the room for your needs.

It is better to place the dining area against a short wall. Any option will do: with or without a window.

As in the case of a small kitchen, transformable furniture will help solve many problems.

And one last piece of advice. Whatever shape and size your room is, try to make it beautiful and comfortable for you. Otherwise, you will end up with a faceless interior that will simply be unpleasant to be in.

Good luck!

Bathroom

The problem with most modern apartments is small, narrow bathrooms. The following design techniques help to cope with this problem:

  • Use in finishing light shades;
  • Use of mirrors;
  • Minimum furniture;
  • Multifunctional lighting.

It is unlikely that it will be possible to place a bathtub and a shower at the same time in a small bathroom. It is not advisable to use a large bathtub or jacuzzi. You will have to work hard to find the right size bathtub. Using a shower stall will significantly save space. A sink located at an angle will help solve the problem of rational use of space.

A not very good solution for a rectangular room is blank bedside tables and cabinets. Open shelves and cabinets look much more beautiful and create an impression of lightness.

Using horizontal stripes on the walls and square floor tiles helps visually adjust the configuration of the bathroom. It will help to “pull apart” the walls a little and a large mirror.
