The bedroom is a place for a good night's rest; here, all interior details should bring comfort and convenience. It depends only on the owner what kind of bed to arrange in the bedroom - functional and folding into a wall niche, floating in the air, or in the form of a huge book, where it is convenient for little mischief-makers to fall asleep. Every year, designers offer original beds that can capture the imagination of notorious skeptics. It's time to leave the conservative thinking regarding conventional rectangular structures in the past, making the sleeping area an exclusive place in the house.
Which bed is better to choose
Competition in the production of bedroom furniture forces enterprises to produce a large number of models, using various traditional and modern materials. In order not to get lost in the variety of shapes and design features, you should determine in advance the requirements for the object of purchase.
How to decide on bed size
The most important characteristic of a bed is its width. It is this that underlies the classification of this category of furniture.
Single beds – 70-100 cm
This type of bed takes up minimal space and is focused on the comfort of one person. A specific model is chosen taking into account the person’s build. Most of these products for adults have a width of 70 to 100 cm.
Single bed.
Single beds – 100-130 cm
This option allows one person to sleep more comfortably. The width of such beds is 100-130 cm. If necessary, two people can fit here. Single beds are bought by young married couples when they need to save space in the apartment. They are suitable for a children's room or country house.
One-and-a-half bed.
Double beds – 140-180 cm
It is believed that to comfortably accommodate two people, a width of 140-180 cm is required. Such beds are called double beds. When choosing a model, be sure to take into account the build of the partners and the favorite position of both during sleep.

Family beds – 180-200 cm
The width of this category of beds starts from 180 cm. They are ideal for any married couple with small children who tend to climb into their parents’ bed at night. Such models look good in a spacious bedroom. They are usually located so that there is a convenient approach from different sides.

How to choose the width, length and height of the bed
Before going to a furniture store, you need to accurately determine the installation location of the future bed and take the appropriate measurements. The width should correspond to the build of those who will rest on it. The minimum length is calculated by adding 30-40 cm to height. If you prefer larger pillows, add a few more inches. For tall people, sometimes you have to order non-standard models. They cost more, but comfort is more important.
The height of most beds ranges from 50 to 65 cm. If in doubt about the right choice, sit on it. If your legs bent at the knees form a right angle, then the product is suitable for you. This principle is not a dogma. For older people, it is better to buy a lower model, and if there is a risk of drafts in the house, a higher one.
Advantages and disadvantages of non-standard solutions
Inadequate sleep causes irritability and depression, and a dull bed causes melancholy. If you use non-standard thinking, the most unusual beds will not only improve your mood, but also save useful space in the apartment.
Advantages of non-standard models:
- A lift-up bed-wardrobe, which is converted into a closet or rack in the morning, will give you a good night's sleep. The use of transforming sofas with drawers will allow you to store bedding;
- A round bed will fit into any modern style (high-tech, modern, avant-garde). You can lie on this bed in different ways, injury is minimized due to the absence of sharp corners;
- Using a multifunctional loft bed is suitable for a child's bedroom. The owner receives not only a sleeping place, but a computer table and a wardrobe. Furniture takes up little usable space, while creating a full-fledged play area and a place to sleep;
- Furniture sets are created to order and are suitable for small rooms. The bed can be part of a wardrobe, pull out from a wall niche or desk;
- For large rooms, podium beds are chosen. At night, in such a large space, you can relax, but during the daytime, the bed will hide in a podium, which will turn into a place for playing with your child.
Unimaginable designs will decorate your bedroom if you approach the decor with a bit of imagination. It's nice to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the day on a grass bed, hanging structure or hammock bed. The most creative people will appreciate the advantages of an attraction bed, although such a design requires a huge area to be allocated.
There are a number of disadvantages to using models:
- Inflated price, growing exponentially if a fantastic model was invented by a famous designer;
- Many unusual beds will require a significant area, which sounds unthinkable in the conditions of the “Khrushchev”;
- It is difficult to choose bedding for a round model, and it is difficult for two people to rest on it;
- Loft beds can cause injury, are unacceptable for people with sore joints, make it difficult to care for a sick baby, and make it stifling to breathe under the ceiling.
The original models amaze with their shape, size and color scheme in design. This type of furniture will transform a boring bedroom and give you an unusual feeling. Compared to classic designs, it costs much more, but it will inspire people of creative professions to achieve accomplishments.
For kids, you can choose a bed in the form of a car or carriage. The model promotes the development of a sense of beauty, will help you quickly learn colors, and falling asleep here is a real pleasure. The models are equipped with orthopedic mattresses and painted in accordance with sanitary requirements.

Transformable furniture (very interesting video about furniture transformation, watch):
The most unusual beds in the world look, of course, very unconventionally, and it should be noted that most of them are perceived more than positively; all that remains is to say to the designers “Bravo, and thank you for such beauty.” I was especially impressed by the aquarium bed, you look at the photo and imagine how great it would be to fall asleep to the calm swimming of fish and running bubbles, but how it will be perceived in reality is still unknown, after all, not everyone can withstand such a volume of water above their heads!
Maybe we can take a break!?

WE RECOMMEND WATCHING:
Bed design - features of choice
Bed frame
To put it simply, the bed structure consists of a frame and a base on which the mattress is installed. Conventionally, all existing frames can be divided into two types:
- The frame consists of two supporting backs and two drawers (panels)
- The frame includes four drawers and hanging backs. There can be two such backrests or only one (headboard)
If the bed is designed according to the second type of frame, then, as a rule, it is located on four legs (sometimes they can be wheels, side walls, additional structures such as a podium or platform).
Which option you prefer is up to you. In fact, the design features of the bed are not as important as the manufacturer, material and conscientiousness of manufacturing. If we talk about statistics, bed legs break more often than headboards, but this is not an absolute.
In addition to the design, the material from which the bed frame is made is of great importance. Sleeping places made of metal and solid wood are the most reliable and durable option.
Beds made of MDF and fiberboard are less reliable. The most common problems with such structures are cracks in the fastening points, due to which the furniture becomes loose and begins to creak. If the bed frame is made of chipboard, then such troubles during operation will arise even earlier. Chipboard beds are the cheapest, but such pieces of furniture will not last long.
Bed base
The bed frame is responsible for the solidity of the supporting structure, but the quality of your sleep will directly depend on the choice of base and mattress. The base can be called a frame or lattice, which is attached to the bed frame and serves as a support for the mattress (the choice of which is a question for a separate publication). The bed frame can be made of metal, wood or chipboard. Lamels (sometimes called armor) are installed on the frame, which are made of wood or plastic - these structural elements must bend. There should be as many slats as possible; the service life of the bed directly depends on their number. The distance between the slats should not exceed the width of the slats themselves. For a double bed, the number of slats equal to 30 is considered normal (but more is better), for a single bed - accordingly, half as much.
Among the design features of the beds, it should also be noted that there are models with a lifting base (gas-lift mechanism). Smoothly rising, the base provides access to the ample storage created by the bed frame. The large drawer can be used to store seasonal blankets or extra bedding sets. But such mechanisms also have disadvantages - the base of the bed in this case is not ventilated, which means that the lower part of the mattress is also deprived of air.
Beds with drawers located at the bottom of the bed structure also have similar ventilation problems. It only makes sense to choose beds with lifting mechanisms or drawers if there is a real lack of storage space. Otherwise, it is better to forgo additional storage systems in favor of a much longer lifespan for your mattress.
Headboards
Beds without a headboard are rare in modern interiors, because without this important attribute the place to sleep is quite uncomfortable. The exception is when the bed is installed against a wall, which is decorated with soft textile panels.
The headboard not only acts as support for the person relaxing on the bed, but also serves for relaxation. This bed element is necessary for those who like to read before bed or watch TV. From the point of view of Feng Shui, a headboard is necessary for a sense of security for those who are lying in bed or reclining reading a book. This attribute of the central piece of furniture of any bedroom gives a feeling of calm and reliability.
Wrought iron and slatted headboards are not comfortable enough for those who like to read before bed, but an additional set of flat pillows can help solve this problem.
