Bed with a high soft headboard: rules for caring for furniture

In order for furniture to last a long time and not lose its aesthetic appearance, you need to properly care for it. Maintenance depends on the backrest upholstery material:

  1. Eco leather. This material is the easiest to care for: just wipe the upholstery with a damp cloth several times a week.
  2. Genuine Leather. This is the most whimsical material. The room should always be maintained at a certain temperature and humidity. Also, the coating must be periodically wiped with special products designed to care for natural leather.
  3. Textured textiles. Most often this material is used for sewing a removable cover. To clean it, just remove it and wash it in the machine. If the upholstery cannot be removed, it can be vacuumed with a special nozzle. This needs to be done 1-2 times a week.

The frequency of cleaning depends on the presence of pets, operating conditions and room humidity. The higher the humidity, the less often you can clean. If you follow these tips and recommendations, the soft product will delight you for a long time.

Upholstered headboard options

There are the following varieties.

High

A soft, large headboard or headboard reaching to the ceiling is particularly attractive and gives the atmosphere an elitist feel. In addition, such designs have an orthopedic mattress that promotes comfortable relaxation.

Low

It is as functional, practical, concise and simple to implement as possible. These models do not clutter up space

Curved

It is an expressive accent detail that allows you to turn the bed into the absolute central element of the entire interior.

Rectangular

A laconic and slightly strict option, which is a standard design solution for light classics, modern or many other styles. A rectangular model is often decorated with plain or patterned fabric.

Round

The semicircular shape has a very interesting appearance, which can significantly soften the interior space of the bedroom.

Carved

A bed with a soft figured headboard, for example, in the shape of a heart, a flower or other intricate figures, will undoubtedly give the decor light notes of aristocracy and some pretentiousness.

Oblique

It features easy adjustment and a comfortable and ergonomic design that provides very convenient use. Such lifting or removable models allow you not only to adjust the most convenient angle of inclination, but also, in case of contamination, to easily remove the backrest and clean it.

Buy a bed with a soft headboard: tips for choosing a product

Before you go to the store to buy a headboard for your bed, you need to measure the room and decide on the size of the bed.

You can buy a bed with a soft headboard not only in a furniture store, but also online

It is also important to consider the following recommendations:

  1. When choosing a bed with a soft headboard, it is important to rely on your own taste. If you like the color, shape, size, then the product is suitable. In addition, you need to pay attention to the design of the entire room, because the headboard should fit harmoniously into the interior of the bedroom.
  2. Bed linen and other bedding should match the headboard. The headboard and bedspread made from the same fabric look very fashionable and stylish.
  3. All furniture in the bedroom should be in harmony with each other. It is preferable that this be one headset. A set consisting of a bedside table and a chest of drawers, covered with the same velvet or velor as the headboard, looks original. A cabinet decorated with a French coupler looks very stylish.
  4. It is important to consider the size of the bed. A large bed may not fit in a small room or may create discomfort.
  5. Habits need to be taken into account. A bed with a high headboard is not suitable for those who like to lean on the back.
  6. The product must be of high quality, so be sure to ask the store for a document confirming the quality of the piece of furniture.

Helpful advice! It is necessary that the headboard is not too large or, conversely, too small in relation to the bed.

Recently (with the development of the Internet), shopping through online stores has become very popular. In this case, you need to be careful and pay attention to the following points:

  1. Check the authenticity of the store. It is recommended to ask the seller for a certificate from the manufacturer’s official online store before purchasing.
  2. Be sure to read customer reviews about the product.
  3. Ask to send real photos of the selected headboard. This will help evaluate the quality of the product and its appearance.

What material is used for soft backs?

When choosing fabric, not only the aesthetic, but also the operational parameters of this decorative product are taken into account. The most commonly used materials are:

  • Velours. Velor upholstery is in great demand; it has a truly elegant, attractive and respectable appearance and a rather pleasant glossy texture.
  • Leather. They are a classic design option, due to which the bed takes on an expensive and chic look. In addition, leather is particularly strong, durable and ideal for wet cleaning.
  • Eco-leather. It has a fairly reasonable price, while visually and tactilely it is no different from natural leather material. Eco-leather is absolutely hypoallergenic and safe for human health.
  • Velvet. Thanks to its soft texture and luxurious appearance, velvet gives the room elegance and at the same time coziness.

With the help of a variety of materials, it is possible to advantageously complement and decorate the interior composition, bring new shades to the room and create an unsurpassed design.

Bed shapes

Certain shapes can add not only uniqueness and originality to the bedroom, but also additional coziness and convenience.

  • Corner. This design differs from a regular bed by the presence of two additional backrests. The corner model fits especially organically into the decor and does not take up much space.
  • Round. It has high comfort levels, which contributes to creating the most comfortable and very stylish design.
  • Rectangular. A classic model that fits perfectly into any interior design with a conservative design.

The shape of the bed can depend on the overall design of the room or, on the contrary, become the starting point for its formation. Designs on legs or on a podium with drawers will allow you to create a convenient storage system for bed linen.

How to make a soft headboard with your own hands: useful tips

If you don’t want to change the bed or there is no point in it, but there is a desire to add a soft backrest, then there are two options: buy a soft headboard for the bed separately or make a soft headboard for the bed with your own hands.

Having decided on the second option, everyone will be able to feel like a designer and create a unique product. It is best to choose a mounted model. For work you will need the following tools: a jigsaw, a construction stapler. The materials you need to select are a sheet of plywood, foam rubber and a piece of fabric.

A headboard for a bed is not difficult to make with your own hands.

Next, consider step-by-step instructions on how to make a headboard with your own hands:

  1. We cut out the frame from plywood. We select the size and shape ourselves depending on the size of the bed or our own desires.
  2. We cut the foam rubber according to the parameters of the base.
  3. Glue it to the frame. If the foam is thin, then you can use two layers.
  4. Using a construction stapler, we secure the fabric on the other side of the base.
  5. Next, we cover the workpiece with the main upholstery fabric.
  6. If desired, the finished product can be decorated with rhinestones, a design or a pattern.
  7. We attach the soft headboard to the wall near the bed.

Headboard design options

Interesting design examples.

With three soft headboards

It is a rather unusual design, which, due to its safety, convenience and three protective soft sides, is especially often used in the design of children's rooms.

The photo shows a bed with three soft beige sides in the interior of a children's room.

With two backs

This model with two sidewalls located along adjacent walls is distinguished by a rather convenient and compact corner placement, allowing for proper organization of space.

With rhinestones

Rhinestone decor, combined with rich leather, velvet or velor trim, will give the space a special chic, aristocracy and showiness.

Carriage tie

Thanks to buttons or furniture nails with rhinestones recessed into the back, it is possible to achieve voluminous squares or diamonds that allow you to create a truly royal bed. The carriage screed or capitonne is incredibly popular in Baroque, Rococo or other luxurious palace styles.

With ears

Additional structural elements in the form of side ears, distinguished by very different shapes and depths, create the most comfortable atmosphere and cozy mood in the room.

Quilted

Due to this technique, the upholstery acquires special three-dimensional folds or even forms certain decorative patterns and designs.

Colored

Undoubtedly it becomes the main compositional center of the room, clearly attracting glances. A soft colored headboard will add color to the interior, depriving it of monotony and dullness.

DIY bed headboard: carriage screed

Making your own carriage headboard will require a little more effort than making a regular headboard for your bed. You will need the following tools and materials:

  • plywood;
  • foam rubber 5 cm thick;
  • glue for foam rubber;
  • upholstery fabric;
  • polyester threads;
  • buttons;
  • long needle;
  • stapler for furniture;
  • drill.

Before covering the headboard, you need to decide how much fabric you will need.

At the first stage, we calculate the size of the product. Next, we cut out the plywood and foam rubber of the required shape and size, glue the parts together with furniture glue, which will firmly and reliably hold the surfaces together in a few seconds.

Helpful advice! There is no need to coat the entire plywood with glue at once. It is better to do this in small sections and carefully combine the plywood and foam rubber.

We mark diamonds on the foam rubber. We start marking from the central point. As many intersection points as there are, so many decorative buttons will be needed. Next, we make holes at the points using a drill.

The carriage screed looks very stylish, and you can also make it yourself

Then we proceed to covering the headboard with the selected material. But before that, we need to determine what size fabric we will need. To the size of the base we add about 6 cm for the thickness of the foam rubber and plywood, another 3 cm for the hem of the fabric. To make the folds beautiful, you also need a supply of fabric: approximately 4-5 cm per point. It is necessary to start tightening from any extreme point.

We form folds, but first without buttons, because decorative buttons often have a plastic stem that can break. At the last stage it will be easier to replace them. We pierce the fabric with two needles and find a hole in the base. We stretch the thread as much as possible and secure it with a stapler. When the folds are fixed on the back side, we decorate the headboard with buttons. We hang the finished soft back on the wall.

Upholstered bed colors

The varied range of colors offers a huge variety of shades that have their own mood and character. The most popular in the interior are: brown, blue, beige, purple, black, pink, blue, white, gray bed or wenge-colored structure.

The soft design of a certain color can harmoniously fit into any environment and, depending on taste preferences, form an effective contrasting or calm monochrome design.

Double bed with soft headboard: types of products

The variety of upholstered beds can confuse any buyer. Products with a soft headboard can be grouped according to the following criteria:

  • type of headboard;
  • base material (natural wood, plywood, MDF, chipboard, metal);
  • number of beds (single, double, single);
  • age category (children, teenagers, adults);
  • headboard shape (rectangular, square, round, free-form);
  • style (classic, modern, loft, hi-tech, Provence);
  • quality and price (elite and standard).

Beds with a soft headboard can be not only double, but also single and one-and-a-half

Based on their appearance, the following models of backrests are distinguished:

  1. Stationary backrests are the most common option. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that the headboard is an integral part of the bed, which means that the backrest cannot be removed or simply changed. The disadvantage of the product is that cleaning the upholstery is somewhat problematic.
  2. Add-on headboard – this product is gaining popularity. This backrest is an independent furniture module. Very often, such a soft headboard is part of a shelf, which means it is attached to it, and not to the bed.
  3. Hinged backrest - this model is used very rarely. Usually this product plays only a decorative function, since it is poorly fixed. Most often, the backrest looks like one or two small pillows. Fastening is carried out on a wooden or metal strip nailed to the wall.

Double beds can be with a fixed, attached or hanging headboard

Also, a bed with a soft back can be supplemented with drawers, shelves or a screen.

Photos of beds in various styles

Photo examples of decoration in different styles.

Modern

Oversized and accent beds are perfect for this style, both with practical low and large soft, laconic and straight backs, covered with stylish and modern materials.

Classical

A bed with a solid wood base and a soft headboard, decorated with natural and expensive fabric, such as silk or velvet in noble and deep emerald, burgundy, wine, beige, cream or white tones, in combination with forged or carved details, will become a harmonious element of the entire classic interior .

Provence

To decorate the soft back, textiles in pastel colors are used, such as matting, cotton or linen with soft floral motifs or elegant plant prints, which are especially appropriate for the French style.

Loft

In urban design, beds are used with both narrow and wide soft headboards, most often upholstered in artificial or natural leather in dark, slightly gloomy or, on the contrary, calmer colors.

The photo shows a loft-style bedroom and a double bed with a headboard decorated with genuine leather.

Art Deco

This style involves artsy, voluminous, radius bed structures with velvet, velor, leather, suede or even faux fur upholstery, which can also be decorated with various elements of gold or silver, crystals, rhinestones and sparkling stones. This design will especially emphasize the status and pompous atmosphere of art deco.

Manufacturing materials

The elite and unique appearance of beds can be achieved not only by making unusual shapes of headboards, but also by using various materials. Often the service life of the product without loss of its original appearance depends on this factor.

For the production of bed bases and decorative elements, the following are most often used:

  1. Solid wood. Advantages: high strength, attractiveness, long service life, ease of maintenance, environmental friendliness. Elite designer beds are most often equipped with a headboard made of natural wood, combined with leather.
  2. MDF. In appearance, fiberboard is similar to wood and is characterized by sufficient strength and wear resistance. MDF backs are available in a wide variety of colors and textures.
  3. Chipboard. In terms of strength, the material is inferior to previous options. Chipboards have a short service life and are susceptible to moisture, which is why they are used in the production of budget furniture.
  4. Metal. Designs made from it are practical, durable, look stylish and original. They do not require special care and can be combined with various textiles.

Features of combining beds with carriage frames with interior styles

When choosing a material for making a headboard, you should decide how it will be connected to the bed. Solid wood sides are heavy, so they must form a single structure with a berth. Decorative panels made of MDF or chipboard can be attached to the wall.

Metal

Fabrics used for upholstery of the headboard and frame are divided into artificial and natural. Most often, in the manufacture and decoration of the backs of a sleeping bed, a combination of fibers of various origins is used. To ensure that a bed with a soft headboard lasts up to 20 years without losing its attractive appearance, it is recommended to pay attention to the following upholstery options:

  1. Linen, cotton, wool. Natural fibers can be used individually or combined into a woven matting in different ratios. The material is abrasion resistant, easy to care for, environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic.
  2. Leather or materials imitating it. Beds made of eco-leather and high-quality leatherette are resistant to scratches, abrasions, and cracking. The material looks expensive, stylish and aesthetically pleasing, which is why it is often used in Italian soft beds.
  3. Velor, velvet, brocade, silk. The fabrics have a luxurious appearance and a wide variety of shades, giving the furniture sophistication and originality. Caring for the material should be delicate and gentle.

To fill the upholstery and give it volume and softness, polyurethane foam, foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, and holofiber are most often used. Elite luxury products, the country of origin of which is Italy, include a backing made of plant fibers, latex, and wool.

To protect the textile upholstery of the headrest from mechanical damage and dirt, it is better to use removable covers.

The comfort of relaxing on a soft bed depends not only on the upholstery, but also on the quality of the mattress. Experts recommend paying attention to the following options:

  1. Orthopedic mattress based on independent spring blocks. Advantages: support for the spine regardless of body position, no wave effect. This option is preferable for people who have problems with posture.
  2. Springless orthopedic mattress containing a block of elastic materials. The product is characterized by increased comfort, does not sag, does not creak during operation.
