Sofa seat

in living room design 16 sq m

You probably already have an idea of how and where you should arrange the furniture in the room so that it looks beautiful and harmonious. All that’s left to do is bring the idea to life. First, visualize how you see your room. Draw a schematic plan of your dream living room with all future furniture and appliances. Why is this necessary? In order to protect yourself from unpleasant surprises that may await you if the furniture is arranged incorrectly. For example, it may turn out that the sofa will be in a draft. Without a diagram, this nuance may initially go unnoticed, but on the plan you will immediately notice it. Thus, by looking at the arrangement from the outside, you can choose the optimal place for the sofa, which is guaranteed to save you from future possible torment due to a constant cold.

The location of the sofa in the living room

. Take a look at our options for placing this item in the room. You will notice that choosing a suitable location for the sofa directly depends on the goal.

1. Sofa opposite the TV. Perfectly suited for family evening gatherings.

2. The sofa is next to the door. Are you a hospitable person and do you often have friends or relatives stay overnight? Then this location will be a wonderful solution for you.

3. Corner sofa. A universal, convenient option. A sofa placed in the far corner from the door will not narrow the space and will look cozy.

Interesting design solutions

The choice of design - both style, color, and specific techniques - depends on the shape of the room. The most convenient for dividing space into functional zones is a rectangular living room, which has 16 square meters. m. (as in the next photo) will be elongated. Then it will be easier to place individual sections than in a square volume. But you can use interesting solutions from leading designers in different apartments.

Square rooms

The best option for an area of 16 square meters. m. is to transform the living room into a rectangular room, while the bedroom will take up a certain part necessary to install a bed. A partition is placed at the feet of the bed, which will determine the boundaries of the zones, hide the place to rest from view, and transform the living room.

Real solutions that transform the bedroom and living room of 16 square meters. m are plasterboard partitions, inside of which you can install several open shelves on both sides, racks with partially open sections, openwork partitions made of wood and metal. They can be made to the full height of the room, but then the bedroom will actually be separated, and the living room will remain too small. That is why a low partition will be more harmonious to visually increase or at least preserve the existing space.

Rectangular rooms

Here the sleeping area can be used as window decoration. To do this, solid cabinets are installed around the frame, and a bed is placed below. This way the bed is visually separated from the rest of the room. There are storage spaces at the feet and at the head of it, which will not be visible from the main sofa in the living room. At the same time, under the bed you can organize several more drawers for different things. Everything together looks like an open closet containing a bed.

Removing stationary partitions will make the room larger. An interesting option would be to install cornices along the ceiling along the contour of the sleeping bed. Light curtains will make such a bedroom comfortable at night, and during the day they can be simply gathered to expand the space. In this case, you can paint the wall of such an area in the color of the bedspread, and the area will be almost invisible.

Curtains can also follow the contour of the window, then at any time of the day or night you can literally separate and make absolutely invisible the bedroom located directly under the window sill.

Hidden beds

Another interesting solution is hidden beds. They can be built into furniture and lowered as needed, as well as pulled out from under a specially equipped podium. This is an ideal option for a room where many guests are received, but there is simply no room for a bedroom. Here it no longer matters what kind of wallpaper for the walls will be in the recreation area; the main thing is to choose practical materials for finishing the floor, on which the wheels of the retractable bed will move without damage.

It should be noted that organizing a living room and bedroom of 16 square meters. m. it will be easier if the room has two windows, otherwise one of the zones will be deprived of natural light. You can compensate for its deficiency by adding several lamps. But a single window is not an obstacle to creating a cozy and harmonious room with different functional areas.

Correct opening of the door in the living room

In or out?

Opening the door in the living room

. If you don’t want the door to draw unnecessary attention to itself, then this invisible model without platbands will look great in your future ideal living room. If you paint the “invisible” wall the same color as the walls, it will become completely invisible.

Open inward or outward? The decision is yours. The main thing is that the door did not interfere with free passage and did not limit access to the dressing room or cabinets. Depending on the layout, in some cases it makes sense to either move the doorway, or focus on a sliding compartment door or a folding book door.

1. Acceptable option. The door leaf does not block the corridor and does not interfere with the passage into the room. However, there is also a minus - when opening the door will touch the cabinet doors.

2. Not the best option. Here the door blocks the entrance and visually reduces the space. If possible, change the direction of the door. If not, then it makes sense to install a folding door-book or accordion.

3. Bad option. It is very inconvenient to open the door to the living room if your apartment has a narrow corridor. In addition, in order to open it, you have to step back every time. Uncomfortable, right? Here it would be more logical to install a folding or sliding door.

4. An excellent location option, which is also good from a fire safety point of view. The door leaf does not interfere with the approach to the room and does not touch the furniture.

Sliding partitions

Partitions are one of the current ways to divide space. Thanks to partitions in the form of a rack or screen, the owner receives a lot of advantages:

  • the room is clearly divided into zones;
  • it is possible to vary the lighting;
  • even if company is received in the living room area, you can hide and relax behind a partition;
  • if necessary, the sliding partition can be tightly closed or opened;
  • design modules do not take up much space when opening.

By giving preference to shelving systems, which can also be mobile, the owner receives additional storage space.

The design of the partitions is selected according to the owner’s taste. For rooms with a small number of windows, openwork designs are suitable; in rooms with windows to the south, you can give preference to tinted glass systems.

TV in the living room

size and location

Placing a TV in the living room

. A large diagonal looks beautiful and laconic in the interior.

Location

. The best solution would be to place the TV on the wall opposite the sofa, and the distance will not matter here.

Cabinet or bracket?

What do you like best? It is important to pay special attention to the television zone. In order not to spoil the design of the room with protruding wires, you should foresee in advance where to hide them. It would also be nice to hide the numerous outlets for the set-top box, modem, sound bar and receiver. A cable channel will cope with this task, which will make your television area neat and harmonious.

Height from floor

. To watch your favorite programs and movies with maximum comfort, place the TV at eye level of a sitting person - 1 m from the floor to the middle of the screen.

Diagonal size

. Consider options from 50 inches (if you have the financial means, of course); TVs with a small diagonal can create the appearance of a lonely, inappropriate spot on an empty wall.

Film projector as an alternative

. For a projector you will almost certainly need a screen. Think about which one to give preference: manual or electric? If you prefer the second option, provide power for it in advance and do not forget about the cable channel for the wires. The choice of location for the film projector itself is also extremely important. Decide whether it will be a permanent mount or a removable one. Well, to fully enjoy the bright and rich picture when viewing, you will need blackout curtains to darken the room as much as possible.

TV in the living room

Room decoration

Venetian putty is well suited for covering bedroom walls. With it, the room will look refined, delicate, and conducive to relaxation. The second option is photo wallpaper, 3D wallpaper. The drawing should not be dark or very large, preferably light colors, natural themes.

Dark colors will visually reduce the space of the bedroom.

You can add some bright colors to the bedroom interior so that the room does not look boring.

Before you finally approve the final room design project, you need to calculate the “useful” ceiling height as competently as possible. The higher, the more interesting and unusual the room can be decorated. If the height is no more than 2.5 meters, the surface is simply glued or painted. In such cases, liquid wallpaper is very relevant.

It is better to abandon bulky decorative items.

If the height is more than 2.5 meters, you can safely install tension structures. The surfaces will be perfectly smooth, but several valuable centimeters will be lost.

You need to choose decor that will create a feeling of lightness.

With a ceiling height of more than 2.8, you can hang multi-level plasterboard structures. In such cases, an individual project is created.

Photos of the whole family in small frames, small paintings of neutral content (landscapes) or drawings made by children are always appropriate in the bedroom.

The flooring can be laminate, high-quality linoleum, or carpet. If the decoration of walls, ceilings, and decorative elements are in pastel colors, the floor is recommended to be decorated in dark colors, or to match the walls.

It is necessary to take into account the compatibility of all decorative elements in the interior and finishing elements.

If you want brightness, you can hang a catchy panel, a blanket or several small pillows on the wall.

If the decor placed around the perimeter creates disharmony, it is best to replace it or completely abandon this idea.

Doors are preferably sliding or hinged, opening towards the next room. The presence of a loggia is now rarely necessary for anyone; most owners attach it to the room, gaining additional meters.

When renovating a bedroom of 16 square meters. m., designers recommend providing diffused lighting for the room.

Furniture in the living room

Furniture in the living room

. This comfortable blue armchair is a color accent in a neoclassical interior, which emphasizes the special tenderness and lightness of the design.

  • Armchair.
    The accent item in the interior is often the chair, although its shade and shape may differ from the rest of the furniture. When choosing a chair, be guided by your habits: if you like to spend the evening reading an interesting book, climbing into a comfortable seat directly with your feet, then a chair with dimensions of 90x90 cm will be comfortable for you; if you are not a fan of books, and you need a chair in order to “just sit comfortably,” then a fireplace chair with a high back, comfortable armrests and a seat of 80x80 cm will be your good choice.
  • TV stand.
    Now almost no one uses players, cassettes and discs, so it makes no sense to clutter the room with a huge cabinet. Nowadays, a console table or a compact cabinet is enough, which will not take up much space and will look elegant.
  • Coffee table.
    A beautiful piece of furniture that creates a cozy atmosphere. In addition, now you can find transforming models that turn into a spacious table. Unfortunately, it is not so easy to find such specimens, and they will cost a lot.
  • Side tables.
    If you want to leave as much free space as possible in the living room, then an alternative to a full-size table will be compact and mobile side options. And if you find a unique designer model, then such a table will also become an original art object!
  • Rack.
    With this multifunctional type of furniture, you can beautifully arrange a variety of decorative items, as well as divide the room into zones without taking away the light. For a living room of 16 square meters. m rack will definitely become a useful piece of furniture.
  • Additional storage cabinet.
    If you have space in the living room, you can place the sofa almost in the center of the room, at some distance from the wall. This will free up closet space and you won’t have to choose between ample storage space and a large, comfortable sofa. Don’t be afraid to use all the walls and niches of the room to the maximum.
  • Fireplace.
    Here we mean electric fireplaces, which can be of completely different styles: classic, antique, modern. Therefore, it is important not to overdo it with creativity and choose a style that matches the design of the room. The correct size is also important: a large wall with a high ceiling needs a proportionate fireplace portal, otherwise it will look ridiculous. This piece of furniture can also be multifunctional - humidify the air in the room and provide heating, so 3-in-1 fireplace models will bring you undoubted benefit.

Living room style 16 square meters

In many ways, style is responsible for comfort and aesthetics: a correctly selected composition in the character and mood that satisfies your life values and needs. The choice for a small room remains quite traditional, although not as large as for a spacious room in your own cottage:

  • The most popular and sought-after solution remains functionalism, which today is often combined with such trends as hi-tech and minimalism. It is obvious that the interior of the room will subordinate the functions, even the shape and color. There will be no unnecessary details here, which will free up space and make even a modest room comfortable. A convenient option remains the use of transformable structures - cabinets, racks and partitions, niches with TVs and decor, coffee tables, bars, etc.

  • Living room 16 sq. m. in a modern style can also be implemented in the contemporary direction. This is a combination of classic correct geometry with simple lines, intuitive interior and industrial functionality. In such a room, overly bright colors and bulky accents are rarely used, although they are useful in small details. Here, most often, the furniture facades merge with the walls, the decoration contains natural materials and, accordingly, shades - wood, ceramics, plaster, metal.

  • Classicism is not the most popular solution for a small living room, but it is the most noble and luxurious. The combination of white and gilding is quite acceptable for such a room. In this case, there is no need to use voluminous decor or excessive relief details: in such a room you can use shallow niches, small imitations of columns, gilded moldings on the facades, and a few “rosettes” on the ceiling.

  • Among the living room options in a modern style, you can see examples of country design - Scottish interiors in northern rooms, Provence in southern rooms, Scandinavian style in any other rooms. These are very different variations, because they differ in color palette, mood and character: if Alpine country “prefers” warm, rich wood tones, then Provence is “faded” shades of pastel.

Of course, if we talk about traditional ancient classicism, then in an ordinary apartment it is difficult to install stone floors, which look the most aristocratic and expensive, or to use overly ornate pieces of furniture. Nevertheless, in any direction you can find a harmonious and fairly compact solution to implement the chosen style that will reflect your worldview.

Kitchen + living room

An increasingly common option is to demolish the partition between a too small kitchen and an equally small room, increasing the space and turning it into a bright, spacious room. I agree that this solution is not suitable for everyone, but let's look at it in more detail. Perhaps it is in you that a new fan of the combined space will appear.

Kitchen-living room design

. Who said that only one bright accent looks advantageous in the interior? Even several combined shades can transform a room and make it original.

By combining the kitchen with the living room, we get a room with at least two windows - that is, a large, bright space. In addition, a full-fledged dining area appears, which, unfortunately, is not always possible in a small separate kitchen. By the way, when choosing a dining table, you need to count on at least 70 cm for each person.

Bedroom + living room

A living room combined with a bedroom is not the most common option for combining two rooms, but young owners of a one-two apartment may take a closer look at it. An excellent partition will be a shelving unit that will not reduce the space and will retain natural light. In addition, it will provide additional storage space for books and various small items.

Curtains

If you want to hide your sleeping area from view, it is best to place it on the opposite side from the entrance to the room. You can separate it from the rest of the space in different ways. One of them is to hang curtains. When you have guests, you simply close the curtain, and when you go to bed, leave it open. In the living room area, place a sofa, coffee table, and wardrobe. Place the TV so that it can be watched from anywhere in the room.

Glass partition

Lovers of modern style can choose partitions made of transparent or frosted glass, make them solid or sliding. Such a solution is not a redevelopment, which usually requires special permission. In addition, glass transmits light, which means the room will always be light. And most importantly, glass partitions are very durable, as they are made of tempered or laminated glass with a film applied to it, which, in case of damage, protects against scattering of fragments.

Rack

You can combine a bedroom with a living room by arranging a shelving unit between them. Its height can be any, depending on your preferences. This option is convenient when the sleeping place is located near the window: a rack with open shelves allows light to penetrate the entire area of the room. If the sleeping area is located in the back of the room, away from the window, then it is better to make such a design not very high, and zoning can be done by additionally hanging a curtain.

Podium

You can save space and make additional drawers for storing things by arranging a sleeping place on a special podium. Its height depends on how much storage space you need. Place the mattress on the platform and your bed is ready! You can design the living room and bedroom on 16 squares as follows - throw decorative pillows on the podium and you will get a comfortable sofa. You can also use the resulting area as a place to relax.

Niche

There is a special niche for the sleeping area; inside you can build a small wardrobe, spacious bookshelves, and a folding table. This zoning option frees up a lot of space and does not clutter the room with furniture. You can hang curtains in a niche or make a slatted screen.

Blind partitions

You can make a multifunctional block from the bedroom area by constructing it from wooden panels. It can freely accommodate a small dressing room, a bookcase, mezzanines, a niche for a bed or mattress, and a work desk. One of the walls can be used for a couch. Here are examples of the interior of a living room-bedroom of 16 square meters. m, where it was possible to implement such a design.

Living room + office

In a small apartment there is not always enough space for a desktop, so it is often placed either in the bedroom or in the living room.

The size and location of your desktop will depend on how often you will use it. For a table for a laptop, a width of 50-60 cm is sufficient, and for a desktop computer it is better to choose models at least 70 cm in depth.

Living room design

. In this project, we focused specifically on the eye-catching bright chair, and made the small work table and shelves invisible due to color.

We offer you three convenient options for placing a desktop in the living room.

1. Desk in the far corner. If you rarely need to work in the living room, then consider this option. To make your workplace less noticeable, you can make it match the walls or place a beautiful screen or shelving nearby.

2. A large work desk by the window is an excellent option for those working at home. This table with an extended window sill is perfect for working with a desktop computer. In addition, if your living room has a narrow and elongated trailer shape, such a tabletop will visually expand the room.

3. Desk built into the closet. An ideal option for creative individuals. With such a table, no one will see your “artistic mess”, because it can easily be hidden from prying eyes back into the closet.

Proper division of zones

Combining a bedroom and living room in an apartment in one space has many advantages:

  • all necessary items are at arm's length;
  • no need to think over a separate style for each room - design of a bedroom-living room of 16 sq. m can be done in a single direction, emphasizing the zones with bright accents;
  • investments in furniture and decoration will not hit the budget too much;
  • the ability to organize space as desired;
  • variety of solutions.

Compact apartments are a modern trend, so decorators and furniture manufacturers offer ready-made forms of organizing space. A little imagination - and a small-format room will be transformed into a cozy living room with a bedroom without any special difficulties.

What to consider when zoning a room into a bedroom and a living room of 16 square meters. m?

  1. The sleeping place is placed as close as possible to a source of natural light. If you are lucky and the apartment has 2-3 windows, it is better to install the bed next to a single opening.
  2. A detailed preliminary plan will help you use the apartment more rationally.
  3. Before solving a design problem, you need to think about which zone will be larger. If the apartment often receives guests, the living room should be given a significant area. But the sleeping area cannot be less than 2 square meters.

If there is a balcony, it is worth considering the option of insulating the open space to combine with the apartment. The investment pays off quickly due to a significant increase in usable space. Choosing a zoning method is the main task in small apartments. Decorators offer many options for visual and real division of the room with solid partitions and lightweight structures:

Air conditioner

in the living room 16 sq m

The main rule: flows of cooled air should not blow towards the sofa or table, otherwise the person in the room has every chance of catching a cold.

Moreover, the farther the internal housing of the air conditioner is located from the window, the more difficult and expensive it is to install - after all, you will have to trench the wall.

Air conditioner indoor unit

- not the most attractive detail in the interior. In order for it not to be too conspicuous and not to violate the integrity and harmony of the design, we hid the white block on the white wall.

Let's look at the three most common air conditioner location options:

1. An excellent place to locate the indoor unit would be above the door.

2. Air conditioner near the window. Good and economical location option.

3. But we strongly do not recommend this arrangement of the indoor unit. Cold air from the air conditioner blows onto the sofa and the people sitting there. Take care of your health and the health of your loved ones - choose a different location.

Lighting and decor

A number of details allow you to complete the composition in any interior style, so both lighting and decor play a significant role regardless of which design direction you choose. It is the accessories that will make the environment comfortable, harmonious and cozy.

Ideas for a living room of 16 square meters. m. demonstrate in the photo the simplicity and functionality of the solutions:

  • If the room has a lot of sunlight, a basic chandelier is sufficient, although additional sconces or floor lamps are indispensable, because someday you will want to create a more intimate environment for relaxation or family movie watching in the evening.
  • A room will be visually spacious if a lot of spotlights and built-in lamps are used along the contour - to illuminate the ceiling, individual pieces of furniture, cabinets and functional areas.
  • For effective lighting, it is better to choose a spectrum that is comfortable for you, but at the same time choose different bulbs for different light sources - brighter and cooler for the overall system, warmer and dimmer for sconces and floor lamps.

The lamps themselves often serve as decor in both spacious and small rooms, especially when decorated in a modern style. For example, in loft design it can be wooden or even concrete, in the high-tech direction - metal lamps.

Other decor includes vases, paintings, photographs, textiles and curtains. As a rule, the smaller the room, the fewer decorative elements it uses. At the same time, first of all, useless items are rejected - figurines, volumetric overlays, curtains. In minimalist interiors, only blinds or roller shutters, original lamps, and a few photos remain. In classicism, single paintings, heavy noble textiles, and a pair of large floor vases can be used.

Sockets

in a 16-meter living room

Make sockets with a reserve and think about their location in advance. Calculate approximately how many outlets you will need in the room. Decide where the floor lamp will be, and where the table lamp will be, and how many there will be. And don't forget about the TV zone! There will be a lot of sockets there - it’s better to hide them behind the cabinet or behind the TV itself. The same applies to the electric fireplace. By the way, you can provide a place for the New Year tree and garlands in advance. On average, you will need about 15 outlets in your living room.

Bedroom 16 sq.m.: the beginning of the beginning, or on the way with the mood

When creating a 16-square bedroom design, remember your own desires, feelings and capabilities. The bedroom is a place of complete relaxation, privacy for two, so everything here should be good, easy, simple and relaxing. And, of course, the territory should be liked by two people. Therefore, when creating an interior in such a room, pay attention to the following important points:

  • color design of the bedroom. 16 square meters is not a lot, so make the room more spacious, brighter, more comfortable with the help of finishing materials in light colors. Give preference to a stripe in the design: a horizontal stripe 5 cm thick will visually expand the space, a vertical stripe will divide the room into zones and increase the ceiling;
  • daylight. Here we pay attention only to personal preferences: if you want to create a secluded corner, use blinds to create a minimum light flux, as well as tulle, curtains and curtains. For a bright room filled with mood, equip the window with small curtains so that the maximum sun always greets you. Of course, if both like it;
  • furniture and its proper arrangement. A double bed with or without a podium, bedside tables or a chest of drawers, a dressing table with a mirror or a wardrobe - it all depends on your desires. The ideal solution is a custom-made furniture set and correct arrangement;
  • zoning of space in case a woman wants a mini-territory for applying makeup, and a man insists on a place to work. There are all kinds of options;
  • decor. It’s impossible to imagine a bedroom without paired vases, figurines, and trinkets dear to the heart, which sometimes even don’t fit into the style of the interior. They are the ones who will create the charm of comfort, softness of style and mood. And they won’t be superfluous!

Lighting

there are 16 square meters in the living room

There is never too much light! The more light there is in your room, the more comfortable it will be. Consider several different lighting scenarios.

Living room lighting

. To create harmony with the brick wall in this interior, we used minimalist lamps - all from different collections, but in the same loft style.

Lamps

are an integral part of the decor, so they must be combined with the overall style of the room. Nowadays it is important to use a variety of lighting fixtures in the same style from different collections in one room. It’s great when there are different types of lighting in the living room: main, local and intimate light. The mood of the room and our mood depend on how we change the lighting.

overhead light

- the main type of room lighting, which includes work lights (spotlights) and a chandelier. A chandelier, in turn, can initially be a highlight in the overall style of the room, and only then perform its main function.

Toward the local light

include all kinds of floor lamps, table lamps and sconces. I would like to note that this type of lamps, such as sconces, rarely fit into the overall style of a living room, especially a modern one, so it would be better to replace one sconce with two original lamps. :)

Intimate light

- these are garlands and candles. Interior garlands burn with an even, unblinking light, usually warm white, thereby creating a fabulous and uniquely cozy atmosphere in the living room and acting as a night light.

Candles

. Here I would like to note that multi-sized, single-colored candles of large sizes will look most advantageous in the interior, and white candles with a slightly rough or matte surface would be an ideal option.

Zoning

. The lamps are ideal for zoning, especially in combined rooms. A kitchen-living room requires task lighting in the kitchen area, as well as several pendant lights above the bar and dining table. The living room also needs both main light and local light. We recommend placing warm lamps behind the sofa and placing a floor lamp next to the chair.

How to arrange a small living room?

Whatever the design concept for the room, it should have a warm, welcoming atmosphere. There are many components working for this purpose:

  • attractive but unobtrusive design of a living room of 16 sq.m.;
  • well-chosen artificial lighting (economical, lamps with a soft glow);
  • noble shades of the interior;
  • ergonomic upholstered furniture with comfortable seats;
  • light curtains (or tulle) that let in a lot of light;
  • harmonizing finishing materials (texture, shades);
  • recognizable interior style;
  • matching the shade of wood and the texture of doors, furniture and floors.

Photo wallpapers can visually expand the boundaries of the room

Paintings on the wall will perfectly complement the interior of the room

The choice of furniture for the living room must be approached with particular responsibility. Today it is not customary to clutter up the entire space with it. For the design of a 16-meter room, such as a living room-bedroom, choose a modern soft corner with a convenient transformation mechanism. If everyone has their own bedroom, and no one sleeps in the living room, then there is no point in overpaying for folding systems. It is better to buy a modern soft set:

  • couch;
  • couch,
  • 1-2 chairs (can be folding);
  • coffee table;
  • banquette

Such a set will occupy almost the entire space of a small living room, but guests will appreciate such furniture.

You need to arrange furniture in the living room correctly

A great idea would be to combine the living room with the bedroom

In a small living room, you should place the most necessary furniture

Advice. To prevent multiple pieces of furniture from taking up a lot of space, buy low sofas and armchairs with low backs. It is better to choose a coffee table with a glass top. Replace cabinet furniture with original shallow open shelves and double-sided shelving. They are also recommended to be used as partitions for zoning.

It’s good if the soft set “looks” at a plasma panel, a large aquarium, a bay window with a cabinet piano or a large panoramic window. If there is nothing to show outside the window, it is better to hide the dull cityscape behind a Japanese screened curtain or curtains with a beautiful drapery. Photo wallpaper is another way to distract from contemplating an industrial area or dark alleys.

Living room design in loft style

In a small room you should place only the necessary furniture

Good upholstered furniture will not compensate for the lack of square footage and the modest interior of a living room of 16 sq.m., but it will significantly improve it. The experience of famous designers confirms that you don’t have to invest much in renovating a small living room. Everything is decided:

  • beautiful ceiling with original lighting;
  • pleasant shade of walls and window decor;
  • spectacular flooring (laminate with the texture of expensive wood, marble-effect tiles, self-leveling polymer coating);
  • well-chosen upholstered furniture;
  • beautiful interior doors with decorative inserts.

To prevent the living room renovation from being too costly, it is better to do everything yourself, step by step. They go to specialized companies when they lack qualifications, tools and experience in something. You can prepare surfaces for repairs and assemble furniture blocks, shelves or partitions from ready-made parts yourself. It is expensive to contact a designer, but a specialist takes into account the specifics of the layout and lighting, and the wishes of the customer. But no one forbids using good ideas with a photo of a small living room.

A large corner sofa will perfectly complement the living room interior

The combination of white and black living room in the living room interior looks modern

For a small room, it’s worth thinking about the design in advance.

Modern style in the living room

This is exactly the style that looks great in any size room. Elegant, beautiful and at the same time simple and comfortable.

. The basis of the style is discreet colors - white and black, gray and beige. For the laconicism of a modern style, bright accents are necessary: without them, the interior will look boring and lifeless. Modern design is created according to the principle “less is more.” There should be few decorative items, but all of them should emphasize the style of the room with their brightness and uniqueness. Large size posters or paintings will look great as decorative items. An integral feature of the design is comfortable and practical furniture, without intricate shapes and minimalist.

Many modern living rooms

Choosing an interior style

Too monumental and bulky styles in the living room of 16 sq.m. will look overloaded and clumsy. But modern eclectic fashion allows you to effectively combine the incongruous, combine different trends and invent your own unique design solutions.

Living room 16 sq.m. loft style

Lofts are large open spaces, free layout, island zoning, plenty of light and rough, raw textures. Loft-style living rooms are reminiscent of the bohemian galleries and creative workshops from which they originated.

Such interiors have two main advantages - economy and eclecticism. Bare walls, rough floors, antique furniture, open communications - all this allows you to save on finishing without compromising quality and aesthetics. A bizarre mixture of different trends, accents and accessories is the right step towards creating your own unique interior.

Living room 16 sq.m. in Moroccan style

The original Moroccan style attracts lovers of eccentric ethnicity and bright, creative interiors. It mixes cultures of different peoples: African, Asian, Arab.

The Moroccan style embodies the fashion for contrasting color combinations: emerald with pink, turquoise with copper, purple with gold. Handmade rugs cover the stone floors, and plasterboard structures are folded into intricate arches decorated with mosaics.

Living room 16 sq.m. country style

Country is a trend that combines all the cozy home styles with rustic roots. Such a living room is the embodiment of the very concept of home, so it is always cozy and good.

Use wood, leather, aged furniture, textiles and handmade jewelry. An artificial decorative fireplace with a wrought-iron grate and a shelf for photographs and cute accessories will harmoniously fit into the interior.

Living room 16 sq.m. Victorian style

The trend for eclecticism and whimsical mixtures is bringing complex decorative styles with an abundance of details back into fashion. For example, Victorian, in which oriental notes are combined with English severity, and gothic pretentiousness with classical monumentality.

Complex and kitschy finishing materials fit perfectly into the Victorian style: carved wooden panels, fabric wallpaper, hand painting, embossing in the form of plant and floral patterns. Indoor flowers in large tubs, flower pots and elegant flower boxes will help refresh the living room.

Living room 16 sq.m. in minimalist style

Classic minimalism is open space, the absence of unnecessary details, simple shapes, pure colors and an abundance of light. Its main advantages are functionality, practicality and flexibility. There is practically no minimalism in its pure form now, because it most easily absorbs the features of other movements and styles.

A minimalist living room can be warm and cozy, in pastel colors, with an abundance of natural materials - this is the principle used to create Scandinavian interiors. Or maybe cold, glossy, with chrome, mirrors, acrylic facades and glass shelving - this is a high-tech heritage.

Neoclassical style in the living room

Many of our customers choose this style. In essence, this is a modern classic without unnecessary pretentiousness. Simplicity combined with sophistication - this is all about neoclassicism.

. Pillows of various sizes in various interior colors will look great in both modern and classic designs.

Signs of style

. Symmetrically arranged furniture and various accessories. Beautiful complex furniture fronts, stucco moldings, moldings on the walls, draped flowing curtains and curtains - these elements, combined with the rigor and restraint of the rest of the room, add unique charm and sophisticated sophistication to the neoclassical interior.

When choosing a style, they take into account not only the features and size of the room, but also the number of people living in the house, as well as the personal preferences and wishes of each apartment resident.

Living room interior in modern style

Modern minimalist style combines laconic details and a neutral gray, black and white color palette. Minimalist design is both simple and expressive. To decorate the living room, natural materials are used; only the most necessary and functional furniture of simple shapes is installed in the room. You can dilute the monotonous decor of the room and bring bright colors into it with the help of rich sofa cushions or a carpet with a contrasting pattern.

In the interior of a loft-style room against the backdrop of brick and concrete walls, sofas, armchairs and other furniture made of metal, plastic, glass or wood look especially advantageous. Such elements combine modern innovations and vulgar trends. In addition to brick and concrete, plastic panels with imitation brickwork or vinyl photo wallpaper with an aging effect are appropriate for wall cladding. Paintings, posters and photographs in black and white will harmoniously fit into the design.

Living room 16 m2 in classic style

The classic design of the living room involves the use of natural materials, finishing and furniture in soft matte colors. For classics, a large number of wooden elements and natural textiles are acceptable. The traditional color combination is white with gold plating. The interior of the hall is often complemented with shallow niches, imitation columns, moldings and ceiling rosettes.

To complete the composition of a classic living room of 16 squares, windows decorated with massive curtains in combination with tulle will help. On the sofa you can place decorative pillows with a damask or floral pattern and decorate the decor with decorative elements made of natural wood, stone or bronze.

Beige color in the design of a living room 16 square meters

Yes, yes, we know that now you will probably say how boring and banal this color is. We agree that it is not at all necessary to choose only light shades to decorate a living room. For those who are tired of boredom, there are many options for turning an ordinary living room into an original and bright one with accent walls in both classic and modern styles. However, it is beige that has undeniable advantages over other colors. “What advantage could there be in this boring color?” - you ask. This is what we will tell you about.

Beige creates the illusion of spaciousness

. The room looks brighter. For modern one-room and two-room apartments, this is an excellent chance to visually expand the space.

Universal compatibility

. Since beige is considered a neutral color, it gives room for other creative options. The friendliness of this color allows you to add completely different bright accents of both cold and warm shades to the interior. In addition, the calm beige palette will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, and you will never get bored.

Gray color in the living room interior

Gray color in the living room

. Designers call gray the second beige. Since it is neutral in itself, it goes well with any shade.

If black tones absorb light and, if used inappropriately in the interior, make the room too dull and gloomy, and the abundance of white in the room, on the contrary, makes it boring and faceless, then gray always turns out to be a winning option in design. It will reveal and emphasize the true color of the soft shades of the design, and, on the contrary, will somewhat mute the bright shades, thereby creating color harmony.

Choosing a color scheme

16 sq. m. seem quite spacious to the owners of small-sized Khrushchev-era apartment buildings and, on the contrary, very cramped to the owners of huge villas. There is also no consensus among designers, who can operate with any area with different properties. These are the ones that influence the choice of color for a room, because the palette affects people’s perception, comfort, harmony and mood.

Living room interior 16 sq. meters can be different - depending on the shape, degree of illumination, cardinal direction, etc. Such footage occurs in elongated narrow or square rooms, regular rectangular rooms, both light and dark.

First, you should determine the degree of natural light so that the living room design compensates for its insufficiency:

  1. Northern and long narrow rooms with one window require more light. Here designers recommend using light colors with a small number of bright accents. At the same time, a composition with a north window should not be decorated in gray or blue tones - the result will be a rather gloomy and cool composition.
  2. Western rooms on high floors of multi-storey buildings, like southern rooms, are well lit at any time of the year, regardless of the geometry of the walls. In this case, a room of 16 square meters can be quite bright, varied and even extravagant.

The choice of shades of one room and its shape will affect:

  • Square rooms can be more varied and rich than narrow and elongated ones.
  • A regular and fairly spacious rectangle is the ideal shape for a comfortable interior.
  • Narrow, elongated spaces are most often decorated in light colors, since the layout of standard multi-story buildings rarely involves more than one window.

Obviously, the hall for receiving guests or family recreation can be different, and this determines the choice of color palette. However, this is precisely what determines the characteristic design features of a 16 sq. m living room. m.

White color

This is a classic, often used traditional solution in the design of spacious and small rooms in various styles. In a classic style it will be complemented by gold, in a modern interior - natural wood or any nuances of gray, beige, brown.

Against such a background, any bright accent will be harmonious - from eye-pleasing chocolate or turquoise to extravagant fiery or mysterious purple.

Milky and beige palette

This range can rightfully be called the most popular, as it is harmonious in any style and design direction. Just like white, all colors with cream or sandy notes harmonize perfectly with the rest of the range.

Lighter colors are used for rooms with northern windows or narrow geometry, but richer ones - mocha, coffee with milk, natural dark wood tones, chocolate - in living rooms with southern windows, square in shape or combined with kitchens and dining rooms.

Grey colour

Modern, functional and quite strict color is used in interiors with different character and mood. It can also be used in retro styles, but mainly in “roughly designed”, deliberately careless compositions. But still, gray remains the color of metal, modern mechanisms, etc.

Although the character is formed by its combination with other tones:

  • It often coexists with natural wood in a loft style - in industrial and sometimes even brutal design.
  • With chrome surfaces, it can be seen in a high-tech interior - in a technological, highly functional style.
  • In scuffs and handicrafts - in the interior shabby chic or Provence.

Accents in a gray palette can also be completely different tones, depending on the style and desired mood.

Bright colors

Ranges of saturated tones rarely become the main ones, especially since they are usually acceptable in spacious rooms. In a relatively small room in an apartment, what often becomes bright is an accent wall, several accessories, and individual design details.
