The furniture fittings market has long become an independent phenomenon and very profitable for the manufacturers of the mentioned devices. Of course, not everyone can afford to purchase newfangled additions for internal filling, however, the lifting mechanism for kitchen facades has long been a bestseller. The action of the required parts is based on simple mechanics, as well as pneumatics. Many of these mechanisms are also equipped with a variety of dampers, and with them closers, which subsequently allow the use of this furniture smoothly and absolutely silently. Further in the article we will look at the main types of kitchen parts that interest us.
Lifting mechanism for kitchen fronts
Spring lifting mechanism for narrow facades
This device can be designated as “rigid-mechanical”. Many furniture makers say that during installation it is necessary to take care of your fingers, otherwise they can easily get pinched.
The spring lifting mechanism is produced for narrow facades because it can only support the following parts:
- weighing no more than 4 kilograms;
- opening approximately 90 degrees.
What does a spring lifting mechanism look like when installed on narrow facades?
Of course, such a mechanism is unable to provide you with silent closing and smooth movement during interaction with the facade, however, it also has an advantage: it is not high, which is why it is quite easy to install it inside even the narrowest cabinet of your kitchen unit, the internal height of which is up to 15 centimeters .
If we consider the spring lift from this point of view, then you will not find any analogues to it, but you will appreciate the undeniable benefits. However, the spring mechanism has another strong side: you do not have to install additional hinges on the folding facade.
Today, spring mechanisms are used infrequently, since everyone prefers more “delicate” parts, however, they still continue to be used
Bar-type bracket for folding furniture front
The bar bracket can be installed to the facade:
- left;
- on right;
- up;
- at the bottom.
This item comes in many different variations. For example:
- the “arm” of a bar-type bracket can be made flat or round;
- the base of the part is made of plastic or metal.
Bar bracket used to equip furniture with folding fronts
This façade fittings also belong to the mechanical category. Its price is very affordable, so you can find headsets equipped with it almost everywhere.
Please note: on facades whose width exceeds 60 centimeters, and in some cases even 50 centimeters, it is better to install parts for lifting the variety in question in pairs; one may still not be enough.
In the situation with the lift you are looking for, in contrast to the fittings described first, you will have to install additional furniture hinges on the opening sash.
With the help of bar brackets you can equip not only the kitchen, but also various walls, for example, storage for shoes
Quite often this detail is used not only in the kitchen, but also for classic walls and niches, for example:
- shoe racks;
- bars, etc.
Lifting mezzanine bracket “click-clack”
This lifting mechanism also falls into the category of simple mechanical devices. It easily folds back the fronts of kitchen cabinets, mezzanines and other furniture of a similar type. The cost of these parts is also very affordable, which is good news. It turns out that you are free to choose from three types of fittings, while maintaining the confidence that its purchase will not empty your wallet.
The click-clack lifting mezzanine bracket has a modest size. Provided that you install it correctly, it will be able to open the door by about 90-100 degrees.
Click-clack bracket
It is no coincidence that such an additional name as “click-clack”, which sounds very similar to the name of the world-famous mechanism for installation in sofas, is attributed to it.
The fact is that, by analogy with a sofa, a facade equipped with a lifting mezzanine bracket of the type in question also needs:
- lift up to hear a characteristic clicking sound;
- then lower it.
This is how you can fix the sash in the open state.
This mechanism is quite simple to install and assemble, you can easily cope with this task yourself
Please note: when installing this mechanism, it is very important to correctly calculate the weight of the facade. If you choose it incorrectly, it will not lock, the sash will simply slowly move to the original position from which it was raised. That is why experienced furniture makers recommend installing two mechanisms on one box, using both sides.
This mechanism falls into the category of budget accessories; you can buy it everywhere
Gas lift
Gas lift can rightfully be designated as a bestseller among the mechanisms in this category. It is so popular that it is already a classic, and is perhaps most often used to raise kitchen fronts.
The desired mechanism has many advantages, for which it is given “people’s love.” Here they are:
- obvious ease of installation to facades;
- very affordable cost;
- comfortable operation throughout the entire service life of the device.
Gas lift is one of the most convenient lifting mechanisms for equipping kitchen facades
How to install a gas lift: instructions
Gas lift fasteners are made directly to the following parts of the kitchen cabinet:
- to the side;
- to the facade.
You can easily handle the installation of a gas lift yourself, but if you are not confident in your abilities, trust the professionals
To be more precise, the round part of the part with the bushing goes exactly to the side of the cabinet, and the oblong fastener goes to the facade. A nitrogen cylinder is already snapped onto them, which, by the way, professional furniture makers recommend mounting directly in the upper part.
So, let's start looking at the steps.
Step 1. So, take the front of your cabinet and lay it with the inside facing up, that is, facing you. Now you need to start making markings.
Marking drawing for gas lift installation
To do this, on the side where the loops are located, you need to mark 9 centimeters, and at the same time step back 2.2 centimeters from the edge of the furniture segment. Place a dot at this point. It will later become the center of fastening of the hook-type part. During installation, you need to turn this part directly with a hook into the inside of the facade. It is important to take the size of the parts for the side of the cabinet at least 2.2 centimeters, the thickness will be about 1.6 centimeters, to which the gap is also added.
Markings on the facade
Step 2. Screw the fastener to the facade.
Fastening the fasteners
Step 3. Now it's time to mark the side of our kitchen cabinet. It also needs to be laid on some surface, turned so that its front part is facing up, that is, towards you.
Markings on the side wall
Take a ruler or construction tape and measure from the end at the top downwards about 27 centimeters. From the end located in the front part, measure 1 centimeter into the cabinet.
Step 4. This area is the central part of the fastening; we attach the round gas lift fastener there with self-tapping screws.

Step 5. Next, secure the gas lift. At the end of the work, do not forget to install a damper, overhead or mortise type, as desired. Its main task will be to soften the landing of the facade when it has to hit the end of the cabinet during closing. If you don't install it, you will not only be forced to constantly listen to popping noises, but also your furniture will quickly become unusable.

How to adjust gas lift
A façade equipped with a gas lift can have three positions:
- 90°;
- 70°;
- 110°.
If you are short, it can be quite difficult to reach the necessary kitchen cabinet, namely its door, in order to close it from the top position.
To correct this situation, it is necessary to change the arrangement of existing fastening systems on the cabinet door.
Gas lift device
Table 1. How to adjust the façade markings for installing a gas lift
Position | How to adjust |
70° from top edge | In order for the facade to be in the position indicated in the left column, being completely open, it is necessary to mark 10 centimeters down directly to the center of the fastener. |
90° from top edge | To achieve this position, you need to measure 9 centimeters from the indicated point. |
110° from top edge | To achieve this position, you need to measure 8 centimeters from the indicated point. |
Make the necessary markings and change the position of the fittings. At the same time, do not forget that an error of approximately 5-10 degrees is permissible, and this must also be taken into account. If you still want to perfect the opening width you need, try adjusting the position of the part by eye.
However, you can adjust the angle of the door in the open position much more accurately if you tighten the gas lift cylinder directly. The fact is that inside this part there is a kind of thread. If, for example, you have facades with installed cylinders in a row, sometimes it is very important to adjust them as uniformly as possible. This is where carving comes into play. We rotate the cylinder along it, and at the same time the facade itself either lowers or rises, which is very convenient. This way you can achieve maximum accuracy.
How to correctly select the gas lift load
The lifting force in the case of this part varies within the following parameters: from 50-60N to 180-220N. Provided that it is correctly selected, and the part is also subsequently equipped with various closers or dampers, then using a gas lift, you can achieve smooth movement of the facade when opening and silent closing, in which there will not be even a hint of the annoying knock of the door.
The standard height of traditional kitchen cabinets is 72 centimeters. If you divide this value into two halves, you get 36 centimeters. This is exactly the standard height of the facade, which does not open to the side, but tilts upward.
Next, in the table in the photo, we will consider what gas lift load is typical for facades with a specific standard width. This parameter changes the weight of the door, and, as a result, you need to select a completely different type of gas lift for it.
Gas lift selection diagram
For those facades that are large and heavy, it would be better to install the parts symmetrically on both sides to avoid gradual warping of the door, which would otherwise inevitably occur.
Wide facades must be equipped with two gas lifts, located symmetrically, otherwise the door will gradually warp
Please note: if you are forced to use a strong gas lift, that is, a part whose power will be approximately 80 units, you need to strengthen the upper horizon (the part to which furniture hinges are attached) with something, since when the cabinet is closed, the part will receive too intense load.
What are gas lifts?
But furniture gas elevators stand out for their compactness and neat external design. These are universal lifts and serve as an excellent alternative to bulky mechanical parts. Cylindrical in shape, they practically do not affect the design of the furniture, and provide a simple and smooth lifting of the massive facade. With them, you just need to lift the door a little, and then it will continue to move on its own. Why do they function this way?
Device, selection criteria
A typical gas lift is a sealed cylinder, containing inside a rod, a bypass valve, a plain bearing, a bushing, sealing components, and a boot. An inert gas, for example nitrogen, acts as a filler that provides damping properties. It is pumped under considerable pressure, and after the valve operates, it acts on the rod, pushing it out, thereby lifting the heavy door. For reverse movement, no effort is required either, the movement remains smooth.
When choosing such devices, first of all pay attention to the permissible loads. So, it will not be a problem to buy a gas elevator with a medium load capacity for panels that are not too heavy and oversized, which are more common than others. Compression force is usually measured in Newtons; in this case, the indicator can range from 60 to 100 N. For heavy front parts, other values, from 100 N, are usually acceptable.
In addition, the dimensions of the cylinder itself, the type of attachment to the base, and the possibility of blocking are taken into account.
Advantages
As we have already said, gas springs are not as rough in appearance as mechanical lifts, they have a cylindrical, streamlined shape, and do not take up much space. But they are still attracted to a greater extent by such strengths:
- No jerking, guarantees smooth rise and return;
- Does not require maintenance;
- Easy to install;
- Silent;
- Durable.
Let's add to the above a wealth of choice. In furniture fittings stores it is easy to find models of different load-carrying capacities, differing in length, mounting option and even color.

Folding lifting mechanisms with closers
You always want to get the best, especially when it comes to creating a real dream kitchen in your home. So that the doors of kitchen cabinets that fold upward not only slide absolutely silently, but also open and close without pops, squeaks and, in principle, any artificial effort.
Folding mechanisms for kitchen facades, equipped with closers
Manufacturers of kitchen fittings are ready to provide you with such a device, therefore, folding mechanisms equipped with closers built directly into the body of the part have appeared on the market. These newfangled products are presented mainly by manufacturing companies that are known throughout the world:
- "Bloom";
- "Hettich", etc.

Folding mechanisms produced by these renowned companies to equip mezzanine-type lockers can be opened completely without your effort, by means of:
- light pressure;
- starting from an electric drive system.
Agree, it’s not only stylish, but also very comfortable, reliable, beautiful, and quiet. The cost of these products, unfortunately, is far from affordable.
Some of these mechanisms are equipped with an electric drive, which allows you to practically not participate in the process of lifting the cabinet doors, which is especially convenient for people who are short or have little time to spare.
Dimensions and characteristics
Beds differ from each other in several characteristics, each of which is important when choosing the optimal option for a bed lift.
Dimensions
Length - the standard length of beds for adults is in the range from 200 to 220 cm, for children - from 120 to 190 cm. Width - depends on the number of beds. Children's beds have a width of 60-70 cm, single beds 90-100 cm, the standard width of double beds is from 120 to 160 cm.
The height is chosen so that it is easier for its users to lie down and get up (lower for children, higher for older people). Combinations of length and width within the specified limits can be very different and are chosen depending on the desires of those who will sleep on it.
Beds measuring 160x200 cm and having a lifting mechanism with a gas lift can be considered the standard for double models. All these parameters influence the choice of lifting device only in combination with other characteristics.
The weight of the sleeping place is mainly influenced by the mattress. There are a lot of varieties of its fillers and their weight can vary significantly. The weight of the part of the bed being lifted is a major factor in determining the type and power of the lifting mechanism required. For example, for lifting a double bed with an orthopedic mattress, a spring mechanism is not very suitable, not to mention the manual version. And for a single bed with a foam mattress, the use of an expensive gas mechanism would be unjustified.
Design
Beds with a lifting mechanism have two types of design - with a horizontal lift of the berth and with a vertical lift of the entire bed (wardrobe bed). You can raise the bed in two ways - by fixing the box parallel to the horizontal level at a certain distance from it, or by opening it like a book, from the foot of the bed.
In addition to the foot, any side of the bed can also be raised if you install the lifting mechanism a little differently. A side lift is needed in cases where, for reasons of optimal placement, it is decided to place the bed sideways close to the wall.
All options require symmetrical installation of two lifting devices of the same type on the box. For a single version of this design, any lifting device is suitable. In double beds, as a rule, gas lifts are used, regardless of the weight of the bed.
There are also two options for lifting the wardrobe bed. The bed is raised either by the foot or by the side. In both cases, the transformation can be done with very little effort if the lifting mechanism of this bed uses a gas lift. But its power for each single-bed version will be different. When lifting from the side, it is possible to use a spring lift. A manual device is usually not used for this design.
Installing a very powerful gas lift on a bed is not recommended, since in this case it will be very difficult to lower or raise the frame. You can roughly determine the required power at the rate of 10 N per 1 kilogram of the weight of the structure being lifted.
When choosing the type of lifting device, there are three other factors to consider:
- Operating mode – regular raising of the bed or occasional;
- The physical capabilities of the person who will sleep on it;
- Lift price – the cost of different types of lifting devices varies by an order of magnitude, so not every user will be willing to spend money on an expensive lift unless necessary.

Folding lift mechanisms for remote cabinets
European brands that produce fittings sell parts that are so strong and have a solid load-bearing capacity that they are increasingly being used for very, very high doors. If you open such doors just like that, then you will have to work hard to close it, since the lower front edge of the facade will look upward.
Folding lift mechanism for cabinet with extension
To prevent this from happening, use a mechanism that will move the upper front part of the facade, as it were, deeper into the cabinet (to take it out), providing you with a much more convenient and comfortable interaction with the mezzanines of the kitchen unit in the future. This is especially true when you are equipping a façade whose height is more than 30-40 centimeters.
This solution looks very beautiful and stylish
The mechanisms of the presented type have only one drawback: height. So, even when moving the end deep into the cabinet, if you are a small, fragile girl or a man of average height, then you will have to, if not jump high up to lower the front of the mezzanine kitchen cabinet, then stand on your toes or stretch up. And even in this case, you can only hook the door, and, if possible, pull it towards you and close it.
Let's summarize, draw conclusions...
In conclusion, I would like to give one simple but important piece of advice when choosing a mini-loader. If you need a universal type of equipment to perform a wide range of work at a height no higher than eye level, give preference to models with a radial lifting pattern. If the height is greater, then it is better to buy or rent machines with a vertical lifting system for the working body. In any case, before choosing a particular model, it makes sense to consult with specialists who will help you make the right choice. This is the only way to buy a mini loader that is optimal in all respects.
The mechanism responsible for lifting the cabinet in a vertical plane
The mechanism for lifting the façade of a mezzanine cabinet in a vertical plane is a stylish solution, and perhaps the most expensive. Indeed, the prices for such fittings can scare a client in the “budget” category, and, despite all their advantages, they will not force him to buy it, since sometimes equipping a kitchen with similar details can cost as much as a couple of cabinets from a set for a medium-sized kitchen price segment.
Folding mezzanine cabinets, the doors of which move in a vertical plane, are a real boon for short people
That is why fitting solutions were invented that ensure the cabinet is lifted not in a horizontal, as usual, but in a vertical plane. Of course, in this position it will be much easier for you to reach the door, pull it towards you and close it without any problems.
The cost of this equipment is high and not everyone can afford it.

Comparison of the presented accessories
Speaking about the fittings presented in our article, it must be said that gas lifts are especially popular today. It is no coincidence that we paid the most attention to them in this article.

The fact is that these products, in comparison with the other parts considered, have several advantages that are not characteristic of other representatives of this category, namely:
- closers can be built into them;
- their price remains affordable, and everyone can afford such accessories;
- the service life of these products is very long;
- Gas lifts are very convenient to operate; they glide smoothly and operate quietly when installed correctly:
- The product is quite easy to install yourself, and also dismantle it yourself, if necessary.

Spring, bar and “click-clack” brackets are characterized by low cost and reliability , however, they are inconvenient to use and most often unpleasant due to noise, the need for effort, etc.
Mechanisms with closers, folding ones with remote control, as well as fittings that allow facades to open in a vertical plane - work well, look nice and also last for many years. However, their cost is quite high.
Let's sum it up
There are many lifting mechanisms for kitchen facades. Which one to choose is up to you to decide, based on your own preferences, needs and resources available to you. Before going to the store, carefully study this text again, and then start choosing parts. We wish you good luck!
Today, a range hood is an indispensable element that completes any kitchen. This device is necessary to clean the room from vapors, soot and impurities that inevitably appear during the cooking process. We recommend not to rush into making a choice, but to familiarize yourself with the parameters of the devices in a special article, which will allow you to choose the right model and not be disappointed in such a purchase.
Even very high-quality furniture can easily be damaged by incorrectly selected fittings. Especially if these are lifting mechanisms for kitchen facades aimed at making life easier for users.
Competent selection is not only about giving preference to a proven and well-established manufacturer. It is important to think in advance about which fitting options would be best to buy, what type of structures to trust and why.
In fact, there are many interesting and potentially suitable options. I propose to study their features, design nuances and make a final decision. This is the only way the kitchen cabinet will open as conveniently as possible and serve for a long time in the kitchen.
Tasks of lifting mechanisms
When a kitchen is being furnished, it must include cabinets, bedside tables, shelves, etc. They differ in their shape, size, material, weight, decorative components, and more.
In order for facades to open easily and conveniently, they may require appropriate lifting mechanisms. These are more complex devices than ordinary furniture hinges. There are additional elements here aimed at making it easier to open and close the facade in the kitchen. When choosing, you need to focus on what is most suitable for your specific situation. There are many options on the market, but not all of them will be appropriate in one case or another. This is largely why this material was written.
I think we have decided on the tasks performed by lifting mechanisms for kitchen facades. This makes lifting easier and increases the service life of furniture. Now let's move on to the proposed assortment.
Types of mechanisms
If you carefully study the current assortment, all lifting mechanisms can be divided into several separate categories. The difference is not always noticeable to the naked eye when looking at the design. But in reality the differences are significant.
All the products presented below can be purchased without any problems in St. Petersburg, at retail outlets of certain manufacturers. The leading brands for the manufacture of lifting mechanisms include:
- Bloom;
- Hettich;
- Hafele;
- Kessebohmer;
- Jet;
- Grass;
- Firmax;
- TBM, etc.
The list could go on for even longer. But these are only the companies that came to mind.
Separately, I would like to highlight the Blum and their line of Aventos .
Now let’s talk about the types of lifting mechanisms themselves that can be used in kitchen cabinets.
There are several main varieties. They can be divided into the following categories:
- folding mechanisms;
- folding devices;
- vertical systems;
- turning solutions;
- mechanical;
- gas lifts.
What's next? Let's reflect and get to know the presented lifting devices better.
Each type of lifting mechanisms has its own characteristics and design differences. Moreover, some categories of devices are separately divided into several subtypes. Therefore, this issue should be studied in more detail, having understood each of the presented lifting mechanisms. This will allow you to decide which option is right for your kitchen, what the features of the devices are, in what cases they are used and what else you need to know before installation. I think this will be enough to make the final choice.
Folding mechanisms
A characteristic of folding lifts is that they are great for multi-level kitchen cabinets. The door includes 2 halves. When it opens, the halves meet exactly in the center.
Before using this mounting option, be sure to check the distance from the cabinet to the ceiling. Otherwise, if this is not done, the door may not open completely. This is relevant when installing the lift on the upper level. It’s commonplace that the door will rest against the ceiling, which will prevent it from opening all the way. In certain situations, this makes it uncomfortable to access the contents of a kitchen cabinet, just like when trying to put things on the interior kitchen shelves. The folding mechanism is potentially convenient and original. But in some cases it is better to abandon it immediately.
Folding mechanisms
Such lifts are used in cases where the kitchen cabinet is at a considerable height and it is difficult for the user to reach it.
When the door is open, the mechanism lifts it up and slides it over the cabinet body.
Vertical systems
You should immediately prepare for the fact that there may not be enough visibility for kitchen cabinets. You can get out of this situation by installing a vertical lifting device. When the doors are opened, the system rises up, but maintains its vertical position. As a result, comfortable access to the internal contents of the structure opens.
This opening option is suitable for almost all wall kitchen cabinets. It is only important to take into account that when installing on the upper tier, the required distance to the ceiling must be allocated. This distance should be equal to the height of the kitchen facade so that the door does not rest against the ceiling when opened. If you foresee this in advance and correctly install the wall cabinet, the fittings will pleasantly please you with their functionality and practicality.
Rotary systems
If there is not enough space in the kitchen to place cabinets and other utensils, use rotating mechanisms.
In this case, it will not matter much at what level the mechanism is located. After all, when opened, they will completely turn upward, without needing additional space.
Mechanical lifts
This is a classic solution that allows you to install kitchen cabinets and fix their doors in any position.
Mechanisms can be divided into 3 categories. They are:
- opening upwards;
- opening downwards;
- universal (open down and up).
Which option to choose for yourself, decide for yourself.
Gas systems
These are fittings whose lifting mechanism is based on gas elevators.
Gas lifts are divided into the following subcategories:
- Automatic. There is a smooth upward opening. If this is a wall-mounted upper cabinet, certain problems may arise during operation, since here it will not be possible to fix the position of the door until it rests against the ceiling;
- Frictional. They're step-by-step. Allows you to lock the doors in any position as they open. This eliminates problems with the operation of cabinets installed high enough. The optimal choice for short users;
- Bottom opening elevators. Here the operating principle is similar to automatic systems. Only the opening occurs downwards. A good choice for those who organize a bar in the kitchen.
The range of mechanisms for kitchen facades is truly huge.

Whether this is good or bad, decide for yourself. The more complex the mechanism and the more famous the manufacturer, the higher the price. But sometimes, in order for a kitchen cabinet to work for a long time, be comfortable to use and not create any problems, it is better to immediately install high-quality fittings. Typically, adjustments are made according to the included instructions.
When choosing, follow these tips:
- choose proven and well-established manufacturers;
- take into account the features of the space in the kitchen;
- compare the size of the furniture and the kitchen space;
- Look at the appearance at the last moment.
Do you use lifting mechanisms in your kitchen?
